The subject vehicle (sv) population includes my 2005-2006 vehicles built between march 2004 and december 2005 manufactured with a trw supplied headlight switch assembly (hsa).the hsa was the primary focus of the investigation; earlier and later vehicles utilized different hsas.consumers complain that the headlights in the subject vehicles do not illuminate when the hsa is turned on, or that the headlights extinguish while on (subject failure).no other driving lights are affected.the front marker, tail, and instrument lamps operate.also, the high beams can be illuminated by holding the turn signal stalk in the up position.as reported by consumers, turning the hsa off and on typically corrects the failure.initially the failures occur infrequently but they become progressively more frequent with age.chrysler has indicated its intention to offer of an extended lifetime warranty on the hsa, so that consumers with this problem can have their hsa replaced at no charge when they begin experiencing the subject failure.commencing sometime in early 2013, chrysler will send letters to sv owners notifying them of the lifetime warranty.the sv headlight system design is essentially the same as that described in ea 05-009, which involved headlight anomalies in earlier model chrysler minivans; refer to it to for additional information.the subject failure is caused by friction between the plastic cam and metal surfaces of the electrical contacts in the hsa, which results in the production of plastic particles (debris).analysis shows that debris can collect on the electrical contact that controls the headlights, resulting in an open circuit and preventing the headlights from turning on.subsequent operation of the hsa may temporarily displace the debris, at which time the headlights operate correctly.lubricant was applied to the plastic cam beginning in december 2005, reducing debris production.consequently, subsequent failure levels were lower.the report counts shown above include only those that involve the subject failure.reports involving other failure modes which were identified have not been included either because they were not safety related, or if they were safety related, because there was no defect trend.the single crash event listed in the failure report summary table above involved a deer strike allegedly due to loss of headlights in february 2006.no injuries were reported in this crash.an april 2004 non-crash incident (

To date, odi has interviewed several complainants who confirmed that the headlights fully extinguish, and remain extinguished, on an intermittent basis.in most cases this occurred while the vehicle was in motion.the occurrences do not show a repeatable pattern, and the problem occurs at a low frequency, typically one or more weeks between failures.for this reason most complainants have not attempted diagnosis or repair of the problem, so the cause is unknown, and the problem continues to occur.in the cases where repairs have been attempted, which consisted mainly of headlight switch and body control module replacements, mixed success is reported.in interviews complainants advised odi that they can usually toggle the headlight switch, or turn on the high beams by actuating the column stalk (pulling it upward), when the headlights unexpectedly turn off.complainants report that toggling the switch is usually effective, and the high beams have always been available when the column is used.during the course of the interviews odi was able to obtain a few suspect headlamp switches for further evaluation.no verifiable crashes or injuries have been identified in the vehicle owner complaints (voqs).chrysler notes that its complaints also include allegations of dimming or flickering of the headlights in addition to loss of headlamps, and that their analysis of available data indicates a declining trend occurring in the field.chrysler data reports two alleged crash incidents; one where a consumers vehicle lost forward lighting and struck a deer, and one where a consumer alleged their lighting stopped working, causing them to depart the roadway and drive into a ditch.a minor injury is alleged in this second incident.both incidents occurred several years ago, and neither allegation has been confirmed by odi.odi is upgrading this investigation to an engineering analysis (ea11-010) to continue its analysis of the alleged defect and its consequences, which will include additional analysis of consumer reports, their frequency and trend, and chrysler's technical information for the headlight system and its components.additionally testing will be conducted to evaluate possible root cause(s) of the alleged defect, and will include analysis of suspect components collected from the field, and/or assessment of subject vehicles that have reportedly experienced the condition.

On the interstate i-75 in tennessee mountains at night, headlights went out while driving with family of 4. quickly attempted to turn on and off the headlight switch which turned the lights back on. my teenager had complained about problems turning the headlights on previously, which i had ignored, stating that she turned the light switch on but the headlamps did not go on but that the yellow side markers did turn on. have experienced this problem repeatedly over the last few weeks. chrysler dealer tom ahl in lima ohio was informed of the issue but would not inspect or service the vehicle without charging an inspection fee, as no recall has been issued for this problem. i declined to pay this and asked them to enter the issue into their service database. *tr

Headlights will not turn on. repeated turning off & on of headlight switch (5 to 10 itmes) eventually works. however, using the turn signal lever on the column to hold the brights on does result in brights only - if you hold the lever continuously. nhtsa ea11010 from september of 2011 says defect is being investigated. how much time is needed for a diagnosis? *tr

I have a 2005 chrysler town & country limited minivan, bought new in october 2004. i have had the same electrical issues (headlights brighten and dim, inside lights brighten and dime, radio station changes unexpectedly) since the first 6 months to 1 yr i had the car. (funny, family and friends have all noticed the problem while we are driving without me pointing it out!)! i allowed my dealer too correct the problems each time. they assured me that they were doing all they could, but have had a terrible time duplicating the issues. my car has been in the shop too many times to count, up to 3 weeks+ at a time. i am always given a loaner and the dealer service is great, but i would just like a car that works. i have 3 boys ages 13,10 & 8. my 10 & 8 yr are severely autistic. buying a new car is just not an option. the lemon laws don't apply because of the age of the car, even though the problems have started within the first year. chrysler corporate has been no help (the area rep inferred that i was a liar). they graciously offered me another year on my 7yr/70,000 mile warranty. when i used service under this new warranty the deductible rose by $50. the dealership owner nor myself had any idea that there would be an increase. they just told us that coverage would extend another year beyond the original expiration date. my husband and i bought chrysler for the name and because we thought they would stand behind their product. boy were we duped. we spent over $32,000 for a car that we would drive for many years. here we are 7 years and 65,000 miles later and my car is in the shop almost monthly! please help, all i want is a car that i can drive with confidence. at this point all the electrical has been replaced and we still have issues! thanks for listening, *tr

Loss of headlights while traveling 70mph. high beams worked only if lever was held down, and i had to drive like this for an hour. over the past 2-3 years the headlights would intermittently flicker or turn off, but i could usually resolve the problem by toggling the headlights off and on several times. this would occur periodically, with several months in between incidents. in may and june of this year, the problem began to occur more frequently, with complete loss of headlights finally occurring. my mechanic replaced the front headlight control module 6-15-12 and the headlights operated fine until this past week- 7-11-12, when the headlights began to flicker again and went out while driving only 5mph in parking garage. toggling the on/off switch corrected the problem and headlights came on.

This vehicle started with the dash board lights flickering, odometer, gas gauges, and radio going haywire. just recently it has shut off while driving down the road with my wife and four children, this has happened a total of three times in the middle of a street and in intersections. i have token vehicle to a dodge dealer, ran electrocial diagnosis test and nothing shows up. they re-solder the cable and it went away for a day, them symptoms resumend. i have replaced battery twice, fixes systems for a day, then goes back to flickering and shutting off. i recently took to a auto electrics spec. at $70.00 per hour, they found it likely be the the battery or bcm. they replaced battery, nothing changed. auto electrics spec. said he wanted to change bcm, but said he can't guarantee that will fix it because of the research online. if you look up 2005 chrysler town and country dash board flickering on youtube or any general search. lots of others are dealing with this issue. problem is, no one has a fix. many have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on batteries, computers, alternators, and other attempts at fixing but nothing is working. i have contacted my local chrysler dealership, but they want to charge $90. per hour, to look it over. i cannot afford to put anymore money into guessing.chrysler needs to take a serious look into this before a fattility happens. this is happening to several people, please look it up. thank you

Headlights will sometimes will not turn on until tried several times. this week, while driving about 38 mph, the headlights flashed on/off rapidly 3 times then remained off until i cycled the switch several times. no more occurances that evening or for 4 more days, then tonight after driving about 5 miles home, i decided to try the switch and found that only about 1 out of 5 tries were succesful in getting the headlights to turn on. the serious concern is when the headlights flash and then turn off while i am driving and will not immediately turn on.

My 2005 chrysler town & country has had the headlights fail several times. high beams worked by holding them in the on position, if i tried to turn them on they would go out. after flipping the switch a number of times i got the lights back on. we just lost lights again last night and were able to get them on after flipping the switch a number of times.

Went to turn headlights on and they would not turn on. had this happen once before, but i just turned the switch on and off repeatedly and they finally worked. i tried a few different things this time and nothing worked. they lights still don't turn on. this seems to be a dangerous problem! i looked for a solution online and there seems to be many others with the same problem.

All failures progressed in sequence over a period of time. door locks failed to lock and or unlock intermittantly using power controls. instrument panel lights and gages would flicker and pulse on and off, at times just off at night for different periods of time, usually minutes. headlights would flicker between brights and dims or on and off. radio lights flicker on or off. instrument panel indicators light up for minutes at a time and then shut off with apparently nothing wrong. seat belt audible alarm sounds on occasion when driving for no apparent reason. cooling fan turns on hours after parking and can only be shut off by removing fuse or draining battery. engine stalls at high speed abruptly, and turns back on. transmission disengages and then re-engages after a few seconds. occasionally the ignition switch will not provide power to the starter until after a few attempts and a few minutes.

Power locks quit working. vehicle acts like it was locked up when pressing the remote (horn beeps, lights flash) but locks don't lock. power doors also quit working causing potential pinch-points. when the doors act up and bounce back open, they sometimes try to re-close but the interference sensor doesn't stop the door from closing on a body part. can temporarily make it better by removing and replacing the iod fuse, but the problem returns a short time later. problem began right after warranty expired. dealer wants 300-800 to attempt to fix the problem but can't guarantee that either component will positively correct the problem. hundreds of similar complaints on the web with the same issue and no positive corrective action.

Bought my 2005 t&c chrysler minivan in spring of 2009 with a little over 69,000 miles on it. few months after purchase the red airbag warning light would occassionally come on while at idle or driving rates. no other problems occured and it wasn't happening frequently. by the end of the first year of ownership, the driver side back door lock quit working with the automatic locks, and within a year an a half the driver's side window would occassionally not roll up or down and the front dome lights quit working. replaced an air conditioner part also. spent $500 on the front end as well that year. when window failure was more frequent i started researching on the internet about problems that have been common in this make and model of van. on oct 4th 2011, the van failed to start, making a ticking sound, figured battery or altenator. we cleaned battery cables, tried what we could to get it started. the radio and dashlights came on,all the gauges would jump erractically; when we rolled up the passsenger windows radio remained on, however when we rolled up the drivers window the radio and all gauges quit working. we ended up jumping it and were able to drive it home. had the battery tested and tried a brand new battery to make sure that was the only problem. when we put the battery in and started it, flames shot up from the middle section of the van, just infront of the engine. the panic alarm, the horn, and the windshield wipers where all going off. as soon as we got the battery disconnected the fire went out and alarms and wipers went off. i talked to the nearest chrysler dealership and from explanation of the various problems they said it sounded like several little problems as opposed to one big electrical problem. i have 3 small children and after the experiences i have had with the van and reading others issues online, i cant wait to get rid of this piece.

2005 chrysler town & country. first began with the left side door not closing completely. then the van just cut off while driving! then the cable burned up and there was no positive cable available to replace. took to dealership. the whole harness has to be replaced for $ 2100! i can't just get a positive cable replacement! no wrecks to this vehicle. very well taken care of family van. this is dangerous and too expensive! i really want you to reconsider a recall on this part!

It first started by failing to turn on after a few times of trying to turn on the lights on the dash. it then progressed by turning off while driving in the city. it worked for a few months without incident until 2 months ago. after a cold start the lights would come on but after driving it to the store about 3-4 miles away and restarting the car it has failed repeatedly. i believe this to be a serious safety issue. i've had to drive home by manually holding the high beams on to get home. there was almost an accident due to this problem.

Vehicle has intermittant electrical problems, like the headlights going off for no reason while driving at night causing a safety issue and takes several tries to turn on the headlights, the power sliding door will not open except manually, turn signals flash both directions, turn signal lights burn out sooner than would be expected, when first starting the vehicle, it makes a whining noise until you accelerate. all these issues are intermittant. we have replaced the starter, alternator, battery (2 times) and it still exhibits these issues. none of the old parts are available.

Hello, i have a 2005 chrysler town and country touring minivan. over the past six months i have had problems with the locks and doors not working. i went online and saw that a great many people have this same problem. you need to replace the fuse for ten seconds and then everything is back to normal. this happens on a weekly basis and sometimes several times a week. this is dangerous because the car sounds like it locks but it does not. today i was coming home from the beach doing 55 and the car completely stopped working and i had to go over two lanes and was lucky that i was not plowed into by the truck behind me. i then pulled over and put the car in park and started the key and it started right up. i made it home fine. i looked online and i see that it is a big problem with a great many people as well. why has chrysler not addressed these issues. my wife and i share a car and i am concerned that this will happen again. thanks

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 chrysler town and country. the contact stated while driving 60 mph all the electrical system lights in the vehicle goes out. the instrument panel, power door locks does not work. the vehicle would still be on and there would be no electrical lights for the gauges to be seen this has happen twice. only the warning engine light would illuminate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice and a diagnostics was ran and they cannot duplicate or find the problem. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 130,000....mw

My wife was driving our 2005 chrysler town and country on 6-20-11 and when she was making a right hand turn the vehicle completely shut off. she stated she almost hit cars on the other side of the road and was almost rear ended with our three small children in the car (7,5 and 4 years of age). she stated it started right back up and seemed to drive normal afterwards. we took it to a chrylser dealer on 6-21-11 and they could not reproduce the problem and they stated the only error code found was a low voltage battery. the battery was replaced. it waits to be seen if this happens again. we are very concerned and i have read about a current recall on 2010 models. i don't know if this could be the same type of problem or not but we feel it should be reported and or investigated if possible. our van is the 3.3 l v6 with 80,000 miles and we have had it for a few years with no problems like this before.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 chrysler town and country. the contact stated that for the last 2 years the vehicle would stall while driving at various speeds. the instrumental panel lights would flicker on and off leading to the stall. also, the headlights would would go out on a intermittent basis or just flicker as if there was a shortage. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000. tb

My 2005 chrysler town and country has the guages go out erradicalty along with the headlights, interior lights and the radio goes haywire. chimes are also erradic, this is very distracting while driving. i have heard there is a possiblity of the car stopping too.

We are seeing the blinkers stop working, or the wrong blinker activated. pushing the blinker switch down (left) turns on the right blinker. sometimes blinkers do not work at all. van is now at dealer for multifunction switch replacement. failure occurs intermittently--recently about twice a week. will usually act up for the whole day then correct itself for a few days.

2005 chrysler town and country power door locks inoperative. the power locks have stopped working at different intervals. pulling the 20a iod fuse and reinserting it after 10 minutes or pulling the cable off of the battery for 10 minutes has fixed the problem so far. this starting happening when the van had approximately 48,000 miles.

The vehicle headlights go out randomly while driving and cannot be turned back on immediately. high beams still work if manually held on by pulling the high beam switch. this has occurred numerous times. also the electric door locks fail randomly. also the electric door locks fail randomly. also elec windows fail randomly. dealer always reports, unable to duplicate the problem. also vehicle has one time totally shut down electrically while driving at 60 mph. all electric components went out and vehicle stopped running. it restarted after turning off the key and re starting. headlight problem is the most dangerous as they just shut off randomly while driving and cannot be immediately turned back on. this is not a one time problem but a constant re-curring malfunction.

2005 chryler town and country power door locks inoperative. pulling the 20a iod fuse and reinserting it filxes the problem for about 3 or lock/unlocks of the vehicle. after that the locks are broken again. kids can open the door while in motion because the door does not lock at this point.

My 2005 chrysler town and country van has an electrical problem that causes the dash light gages headlights, door locks, interior lights to flash off and on. then the car will cut off and will not start until the car sits for a while. there is no warning as to when this will happen. has been in for same repair problem 5 times all types of things have been replaced but problem reoccures withoout warning. very dangerous when headlights go off without warning and car cuts off without warning. date below is 5 the occurence.

Our chrysler t&c 2005 lmtd, will stall while in motion. the dash and all cabin electrical will flash and eventually shut off at once. this happens at slow speeds, approaching intersections and when accelerating at intersections. yesterday my wife was crossing a intersection when the van stalled causing her to stop abrubtly in the intersection. if it wasn't for a police officer behind her interceding and stopping traffic, she would have been hit by several cars. we have brought the car into service over 8 times to our local dealership to no avail. the bcm was replaced, alternator. they can't replicate the issue and have no answers. this car is a danger to drive. this issue happens on a daily basis while in traffic. at highway speeds the car is fine.

Electrical system failure. dashboard flickers on and off when pressing on the gas. headlight went out. this has happened for months and no one at chrysler will say anything is wrong. they won't even drive in the van to see it do it.

Electrical problems. headlights flicker on and off, speedometer goes to 0, fuel gauge goes to empty, radio goes off then on, all lights flicker on and off, turn signal flickers off and on, locks do not work on occasion. van does not always start and sometimes stalls, air blows out the vents even when the vents are off. i have had the bcm replaced 3 times, the cluster panel replaced, the alternator replaced 2 times, fan replaced, replaced power distribution center. chrysler service center claimed they checked all wiring. van is still not fixed. i feel it is dangerous for my children. this happens all the time while driving. i have had it towed because it would not start. i have had it worked on so many times. i have read other people have this problem. airbag light is now on again.

I own a 2005 chrysler town and country minivan. i noticed that there is a recall on the front crash sensor that doesn't start until june, but my airbag warning light is already illuminated. it started lighting up a couple of months ago. when i contacted my local chrysler dealership, they denied any knowledge of a recall. i called chrysler directly and was told that i could get the sensor fixed right now, but it would have to be at my own expense. the dealership was going to charge me $130 for diagnostics, when they should already know about the recall. my concern is this: if (god forbid) i happen to be in a crash between now and june, what happens if my airbag doesn't deploy? chrysler is aware that my sensor is out and is doing nothing. what are my options for ensuring the safety of my vehicle over the course of the next three months, before the official recall begins? i truly think this is a sham that chrysler knows about the problem, but is taking their sweet time in coming up with a solution and fixing our defective vehicles.

Air-bag fault light came on while driving down the road. dealer says that both front impact sensors need to be replaced due to corrosion, to the tune of $300! it doesn't seem reasonable that after 5 years and 62,000 a required safety device this important should have to be replaced at my expense due to corrosion. *tr

Two years ago, february 2008, i had the body control module on my 2005 chrysler town & country replaced. the van was a little over three years old and out of warranty. the repair cost $658. it was replaced with a dealer part at a chrysler dealership. this past saturday it started with the same symptoms as in 2008. it won't start, the doors will not unlock, and it drains the battery. i just want to know if other van owners have the same problems. *tr

Headlamps go off intermittently. movement of headlamp switch will turn them back on, but, interior lights are dead when opening door and overhead computer is dead when lights are on. dangerous situation for the headlamps as it could cause a wreck. reading online blogs this seems to be a bad problem with the 2005 model year chrysler town and country's and dodge caravan's. does someone have to get killed first to warrant an nhtsa investigation? i did a search on investigations for my vehicle year and type and only found the air bag investigations. this is a very common issue with not only my year but other years of chrysler mini-vans. it needs attention! *tr

Bought my car march 1st 2005. took it back on march 11th 2005 because the remote start for the car would start the car for two seconds then cut off, then start again for two seconds, then cut again, ect. the car dealer shop repaired the problem that day. after i took the car home, the remote stopped working after two days. i took the car back to the car dealer. they said they replaced a part again. well, i didn't try using the remote again until february of 2007. when i tried to use it then, it just would not work at all. i did not take it back to the car dealer until august of 2008 to see if they would repair or replace it again. the car dealer told me this would be the last time they would repair this remote problem on this car because the warrant had ran out. since then the remote start on my 2005 chrysler/town & country/touring has stopped working again. *tr

3 times - the power side doors, power door locks, and power windows will quit working. as noted above, we remove a fuse, leave it out for 10 minutes, replace, and everything works again. this seems to happen every 4-6 months. there are numerous listings of this same problem on the internet. thanks to blogs, i found the repair for the problem. *tr

It started actually quite some time ago. it seemed that every once in a while i would lose my power steering. once it almost caused me to run off the road and into a cement curb. luckily, i was able to work the wheel around and after about five minutes of trying to control the van, the power steering came back. there has been a noise at the front of the vehicle for quite some time and then i noticed the van was leaking something. i took it to the dealer and they said there was a leak in the steering gear assembly and that it needed to be replaced. they also said that they are replacing so many of them that the part was backordered and they were unsure when they would get one. that was in nov. 2007. it is now april 2008 and i am still waiting. in feb of 2008 i was told they had one for me and i took my van in and then was told that it never arrived and that they told their parts dealer that they needed it immediately because the power steering fluid is leaking onto other parts and can cause problems. it's still been two months since then and nothing. the whole front of my van feels and sounds like its going to fall off at any moment. i have had to refill my power steering fluid every 2-3 days since nov 07 and it isn't getting any better. unfortunately, this is not the only problem i have had with this van. the right cv joint had to be replaced after only 2 years, the air bag sensors went bad and only after i paid to have it checked out to the tune of $70 were they recalled, there was a recall on the rear heating/cooling tubes because of cold weather conditions, the driver side sliding door no longer works as well as the front passenger window. during a terrible rain storm, i had to go through a large puddle and the spare tire was ripped from the undercarriage because it was never sealed properly and the part was defective. both sets of brakes have had to be replaced, rotors redone and the tires have been replaced twice. *tr

2005 chrysler town and country, has been having problems for several months. it was taken initially because the cigarette lighter was smoking and from there fuses were blown. the second issues was the lights constantly flicker on and off, the radio goes in and out along with the headlights and the internal lights while driving. first i was told it was the battery so i go and buy a battery, that didn't work. since then they have change the pcm and the alternator. i have taken the car to four different dealerships in four different cities approximately six or seven different times and my vehicle is currently at one of those dealerships because on thursday september 27, 2007 the van just turns completely off while in motion in morning traffic, the dash goes completely black and everything is quiet. the van kicks it back on and i press on the gas. what a terrifying experience. i purchased the van used in march of 06 and since then i have had 3 recalls and the van has been at the dealers more than i have driven it. i am not a satisfied customer; i am terrified to drive this vehicle. i have children and we call the car christine because it is posed the dealers can never get the vehicle to duplicate the problem. what is going on? chrysler has been contacted and they offer hardly any help at all. *jb

The 2005 chrysler town & country was parked inside the garage at my residence when the interior of the vehicle caught on fire from a short in the electrical system ,probably the heated seats. we were in the back of the house/garage when the horn began to sound and the van's panic alarm went off. we could see smoke coming from the eaves of the garage roof. my husband was able to open the man door of the garage (the electronic garage door opener would not function) and observed heavy grayish smoke coming from the vehicle with the help of a neighbor and our 13 year old son he sprayed the vehicle with water from 2 garden hoses. the windows of the vehicle shattered and the interior of the van was glowing orange. 911 was called and the local fire department responded. once the area was secured the fire department assessed the damage (which was contained to the vehicle). they were of the opinion that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the driver's seat heating element. the only thing left of the drivers seat was the metal frame; the steering column was gone and wiring harnesses were hanging down into the passenger compartment from the roof of the vehicle. the van is a total loss. our insurance adjuster stated that this was the second chryler town & country he had seen in this condition. property damage (other than the vehicle) was limited to the garage interior thanks to my husband's and neighbor's quick response. we did not lose our garage or home...others may not be that lucky! *ak

I purchased a chrysler town & country in 2005. since then, i have been in to have electric components throughout the van fixed on average, 1-2 per month. the electric system is breaking down piece by piece. starting with the electric locks (within the first month and they were fixed twice), the ac (a recall), the entire heat assembly in the rear (i was in multiple times for this one), the passenger air bag harness, the oil sensor, and now the drivers' side airbag is needing to be repaired. all of these issues were electric. i have been in under their warranty to have all of these issues fixed, but i continue to have electric issues. my fear is that, considering that the vehicle has extensive electric controls, that something major is about to break. with only a thirty six thousand mile warranty, which is about up, and still problems, they (the chrysler corp.) say there is nothing they can do for me. *jb

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - BATTERY

We bought our 05 chrysler town & country in feb of '08. the dealership had to finish detailing it, so the next day they delivered it to me at work. that day my wife came and picked the van up from me and drove though town. she immediately noticed all the dash lights, air bag, check engine etc, flickering on the dash. when the lights would flicker, the radio also cut out and the seatbelt reminder ding would sound. she took it straight to the dealership who then put a code scanner on it, and said it was okay to drive, we needed to bring it back the next day when they had time. long story short, the first thing they replaced was the battery and said it was fixed. about a week later the new battery completely died, the van would not start unless it was jumped, we even put a battery charger on it for 8hrs. took it back to the dealership, this time they replaced the battery and the body control module. again, we were told it was fixed. from the moment we picked it up from dealership the check engine light stayed on. we called the dealership, they said bring it back tomorrow. we went the next day and again they said bring it back tomorrow. finally when they had time 2 days later, we took the van back up. after 45min or so they said the egr valve needed to be replaced, it was stuck open allowing too much oxygen into the fuel. but this time they were not going to pay to fix it. mind you had only had the van for not even 30 days. after a lot of fighting with both the service and the sales dept, they did fix and we didn't have to pay for it. here we are a month and a half later, and its doing the same thing again! now what, they fought us last time to fix it... *tr

Dt: the contact stated the ignition did not lock when the key was inserted and the vehicle was in drive. while driving the consumer hit the key with her knee which caused the key to turn to the off position and causes the engine to shut off. the consumer contacted the dealership and they suggested that the vehicle may need a new lock cylinder. no repairs have been made. this is a 2005, chrysler, town and country. *ak updated 1/4/2006 - *nm

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - STARTER ASSEMBLY

Grinding noise from starter on my 2005 chrysler town and country when it is cold. dealership acknowledged that several chrysler dodge and jeep vehicles have this problem. explained it was a two pieces of the metal starter grinding but it was not going to harm anything. i asked for them to change it under warranty but since they could not reproduce it the next day (surprise) they would not acknowledge that i had a problem. spoke to customer service and they took the dealers word. i then saw the entry on this site of the same problem. now i have to chase the problem and take it to another dealership etc. had a similar problem with a 2000 chrysler cirrus. *tr

Having purchased a new chrysler, town & country minivan, in less than 3 years of ownership, i've had to make numerous repairs that i've never had to make on previously owned vehicles in the same lifespan of a vehicle. the quality of this van has been extremely disappointing. *tr
