Rear a/c evaporator leak on two chryslers that i own. 2005 chrysler town and country & 2005 dodge grand caravan. chrysler extended the warranty for these part in all 2006 and 2007 minivans. they should have included 2005 in the recall.

The vehicle involved is a 2005 chrysler town & country lx minivan with stow-n-go seating. after repairing a flat tire, the spare tire hanger jammed, causing the tire to appear in place but actually loose. the hanger is a winch with a wire rope that retracts to hang the tire under the mid-section of the van. the wire rope spooled unevenly, jamming against the housing. no accident occurred, but there is high potential for harm to other drivers if the tire were to fall to the roadway. *tr

In march/apr 2007 we noticed a white stain that has appeared on the floor by the navigator seat. we assumed we spilled something and we cleaned it up with a household carpet cleaner. a few weeks later the stain has appeared again. we removed the floor mat in the area to find out that the stain extended now significantly. we cleaned it out again and monitored it. upon closer monitoring, we observed that the area kept getting wet when the ac unit was on. after removing the soggy carpeting and keeping the engine on with the ac on during a humid day, it was evident that the condensed water was leaking inside the vehicle causing the carpet to mold. we drove our kids around in a moldy car for 4 months now. we did not know it was mold until closer inspection. the youngest had a continuous congestion during this period that we blamed on the daycare. unfortunately he was the only one getting continuously congested. once we noticed it was actually mold, we put a towel over the area (with the carpet removed). every night we would leave the van with doors and windows open and attempt to dry as best as we could the area. after taking the vehicle to the mechanic, they informed us that it is an expensive repair and they advised us to contact daimlerchrysler. we contacted daimlerchrysler (ref 16513172) about having the issue fixed under the warranty. we exceeded the 36,000 warranty mileage by 1,280 miles. even though we explained that it takes time for mold to develop in order to notice the issue, daimlerchrysler refused to help us. we plan on taking the vehicle to a dealer and having it resolved, but meanwhile we would like to let other people know of our issue. also, the vehicle has already had 2 recalls and one major repair. in 2 years of ownership this would be our 4th major repair for a vehicle that is only 2 years old and has only 37280 miles on it.

Went to turn headlights on and they would not turn on. had this happen once before, but i just turned the switch on and off repeatedly and they finally worked. i tried a few different things this time and nothing worked. they lights still don't turn on. this seems to be a dangerous problem! i looked for a solution online and there seems to be many others with the same problem.

Summary: i was supposed to pick up the van on march 30 2006, but the system died during the test run, van would not shift gears, signal or turn off, this problem recurred on july 23, 2006 shortly after it was finally delivered to me at home. i called carlos, the president of the company which made the adaptive driving equipment for my van and left a voice mail saying the van was stuck in drive, and i was sitting with my hand on the brake, (as happened on march 29, 2006 when we went to take it home for the first time. the customer care representative called me back and told me to have someone pull out one of the fuses to reset it. about a week later, drive master technician came out to put in a temporary reset switch. i never heard back from carlos regarding this incident. the vehicle failed numerous times, causing me to have to flip this 'temporary' reset switch, carlos didn't return my calls , but drive master said he was sending out the parts to replace the switch. then, the van died late september in a parking lot, gas/brake failed, back-up brake was delayed, a second earlier or later and i would have been in a major accident. i spoke to carlos in october, and he was putting in something to fix this problem, but he had yet to address the problem . this caused the van to freeze , inability to shift gears, signal, turn the car off, etc , and the only resolution to that first problem, so far was to flip the reset switch that was temporarily put in. carlos offered me an upgrade that would address the problem that happened in late september with the van freezing for $1500, but said it would normally cost more and he wasn't making it available to everyone. the problem recurred without resolution. *ak

Last fall (2007) started to notice that the air conditioning wasn't getting as cold as fast as it use too. then the fall went by and summer arrived, went to turn on the a/c and nothing but hot air came out. bought a recharge kit to see if the kill switch had been engaged for not having the proper level of freon in the system. once freon was put in, the compressor turned on then the pressure went down to 0 in a matter of seconds. shut off the car and heard a hissing sound coming from the right rear wheel well area. reached up and was able to locate a box with a tube coming out of it (later found out it was called the evaporator core extension unit) and was able to place my finger over the part and the hissing stopped. since the car is out of warranty, i decided to replace the part myself. tried to purchase it at a regular auto part store, but it hasn't been released to sell that way. so, i contacted mopar (chryslers direct auto supplier) - they said the part was on back order till the middle of august. i have, also, contacted the local dealership - which informed me there was over 2300 backorders for this part and that it might be in 2-3 weeks. this is were i started to think that this is a design flaw with the car. this part is located directly on the underbody right behind the right rear wheel well. there is no protection from whatever can be flung up from the tires. and with 2300 parts on back order, makes me think this is a severe problem that needs to be addressed. since this part, might not be, obtained till august - i might have to cancel 2 road trips, because i don't want to overheat my kids in the back. there is only the front windows and the back vents in the vehicle. the side windows do not vent. *tr

1-reported vibration in steering wheel between 20-50 mph [2-possible exhaust leak, i was getting sleepy after 20-30 min drive time, i use recycle mode on a/c due to having asthma [ 3-reported noise from the muffler/exhaust area[4- a/c compressor makes a laboring noise [5-vibration and a growling noise in rear suspension, axle or transmission[6-transmission seems to slip or jerk into and out of gear between 15-45 mph. service department could not duplicate any of my concerns but by the same token my mileage out was the same as my mileage in so i'm not sure it was even driven. three[3] days later i came in and ask for someone to drive with me and the technician was able to hear the noise before we had gone a mile, at that time he thought is was just a loose spare tire but when i came back that afternoon i was told it was the catalytic converter but there was not one in town and as soon as it came in it would be repaired. it was supposedly order on thursday jan 19,2006 and received on jan 26,2006. catalytic converter was replaced on jan 27,2006 as well as exhaust manifold gasket. [7-on this date i also reported on jan 26,2006, when i was braking to slow down to turn right the car engine surged forward and almost lost control of car-nothing was listed on the service copy as cause or what was tested for the engine surging when braking.[8-rear brakes have crystallized and need to be replaced at my cost. am getting other prices at this time. *nm
