The first time, about a half mile after a fill-up while making a right hand turn, the engine died. re-started without any other problems. most of the time when this has happened is when making a turn but there has been times when stopped in traffic, the engine dies. has always re-started. there has never been a failure if the tank is re-fueled to approximately 7/8 full.

After filling gas tank full the van stalls.
12/20/2010
Upon filling up the gas tank of my 2005 chrysler town & country the van will stall out shortly after pulling away from the gas station. this happens all of the time and the van had 113k miles on it when it was purchased. after stall, it is a hard restart to get it going again.

At 39,000 miles, the 2005 town and country began stalling following a fuel filling. this stalling occurred and still occurs following fuel filling. the van was taken to a chrysler dealership. the service department indicated that the roll-over valve on the fuel tank was the cause of the problem. the remedy given was a fuel tank and evaporator canister replacement at a cost of $900. evidently the faulty valve cannot be replaced independent of the fuel tank. internet research of this issue found that this is a commonly reported problem by 2005 chrysler town and country owners. as the stalling can occur as the vehicle enters a highway, this problem can cause accidents and injuries. chrysler should issue a recall to repair the faulty valve on the tanks.

2005 chrysler town and country stalls after refueling creating safety hazard if stall occurs with traffic behind vehicle. this is a known problem with chrysler town and country's due to a faulty vapor/liquid separator valve in fuel tank. chrysler has not issued recall to replace faulty valve or gas tank to correct this safety issue.

My wife was driving to work when the van stalled out. she said she lost all power and almost got rear ended. i read where the 2008 and 2009 were recalled for the same thing. i took the van to a mechanic they could not get any codes. i fear for my family's safety. the mechanic said it was most likely the check valve that is built into the gas tank but not for sure. i read were two people died in the 08 and 09 and i don't wont this to happen to our family. thank you

After refueling, my 2005 chrysler town and country loses power momentarily or dies completely. the problem happens only after refueling and (so far) only once. usually the problem occurs about a minute or two after leaving the pump, typically as i am about to pull out into traffic. the problem has occurred every time i refill for the last 4 refuelings of the vehicle. this is a very dangerous problem. the vehicle has 48,000 miles on it.

Upon filling up the gas tank of my 2005 chrysler town & country the van will stall out shortly after pulling away from the gas station. this happens most of the time and the van has 85k miles on it. after stall, it is a hard restart to get it going again.
02/04/201175000
Upon filling up with gasoline, especially when filling up completely, the engine will cut out several times while driving. it can happen from 1/10 of a mile, up to 5 or 6 miles on the tripometer. the problem started occurring when the vehicle reached about 75,000 miles and is continuing to do it at about 76,400 miles. makes for a very dangerous and unpredictable driving scenario either in or out of traffic or when making turns (yes, it has stalled several times while in a turn, fortunately, i was prepared). since chrysler is aware of it and it is not an inexpensive repair, it should be the responsibility of the company. it certainly will be if i get into an accident because of it.

2005 chrysler town & country. vehicle stalls after filling gas tank. was happening intermittently, now more regularly. most troubling, vehicle often stalls once out in traffic--causing loss of power steering, power brakes, and obviously creating a hazard for other vehicles. dealer said problem was battery and replaced battery. (did not fix problem.) dealer claims to never have heard of the problem with the fuel system/tank. am starting to find others with same complaint.

2005 town and country stalls after filling up with gas. initially problem was infrequent and would happen once every few months. now it happens after every fill up. problem has to do with the evap system and the engine taking in gas instead of vapors thru the system. this is very hard to diagnose, and i imagine most shops diagnose it improperly since it would be hard to reproduce. the stalling does not produce a check engine light or any code visible using a generic obd2 code scanner or the chrysler drb3 diagnostics system. i also imagine most owners don't link the stalling to filling up with gas, it took me several months to figure that out. stalling happens within 40 miles of a tank fill up. i searched the internet and found dozens of other people complaining about the same problem. the repair is a whole new gas tank with an average repair cost of approx $800. it's a very dangerous problem, the van has stalled with my wife driving on the highway several times while taking my children places.

I have a 2005 chrysler town & country with 63,000 miles, 3.8 l v-6 engine. serviced by dealer for first 50,000 miles; by reputable local repair shop since. oil change every 3000 miles, all maintenance as scheduled in owner's manual. for at least the past 3 years, van usually stalls within 1/2 mile of gas station after a fill-up. usually starts back and idles rough for 30-45 seconds before clearing up. dealer said they fixed it while under warranty with software update; did not last. this seems to be a problem with several owners. local repair shop said they were familiar with problem; required fuel tank and sensor to be replaced for several hundred $$$. seems to be a safety issue that should be recalled and repaired by chrysler. problem now occurs with every fill-up.

We have a 2005 chrysler town & country. within the past couple years, this car has stalled every couple months. it always happens within minutes of filling the gas tank. after pulling out into traffic, the car will stall and just shut down. sometimes the check engine light will come on. we turn off the car and restart it, and it seems to run fine after that. we have taken it to the dealer/mechanic 3 times for them to check this problem, but they always tell us they can not duplicate it so they do now know what the problem is. recently, at 72,000 miles, we replaced the egr valve, and hoped that this might fix the problem. but several days later, the car stalled again. this is a safety issue that should be solved by chrysler.

Filled my 2005 town and country with gas and when i started it it acted funny, then as i was driving off it almost lost power on the road. it bogged down, stuttered and eventually seemed as though it would die out. i continued driving slowly and it slowly seemed to start running right. however, it has not been the same and has periods of bogging down and like it has an issue trying to get power (or gas)when i try acclerating ever since i filled the tank. it almost seems to lose the power. no lights come on and the van has only has 85,000 miles on it. glad no one was coming fast, i could've been hit just trying to come out the gas station!!! not sure if its the fuel injectors or gas tank issues! a very scary situation with my kids in the car with me!! now im afraid to fill it all the way and try to keep it lower then 3/4 filled which is difficult to do!

2005 chrysler--town & country mini-van / (3.8l) every time this vehicle is refueled the engine stumbles or stalls out 2 minutes after restarting. this is extremely problematic when attempting to exit gas stations adjacent to busy roads. the stumbling or stalling occurs quite abruptly and always causes temporary loss of power steering and brakes as the engine shuts down. based on numerous car blog sites this seems to be a fairly common problem on 04 and 05 chrysler and dodge mini-vans. some chrysler mechanics have commented chrysler is aware of the problem. however, the issue seems to involve the gas tank emissions purge valve system, which is an integral part of the fuel tank. the only way to correct the problem is to replace the fuel tank. given the nature of this problem i believe government emissions regulations and other safety regulations should be used to force a manufacturers recall of these vehicles to replace fault fuel tanks. *tr

After my last 3 fill-ups, my 2005 chrysler t&c stalls within about 30 seconds of re-start, usually in the gas stations driveway. the service station indicated the cause to be the roll-over valve and that the entire gas tank would need to be replaced. typically gas fumes should be sent to the evaporator, but now liquid gas is going into it. if the roll-over valve is at fault, i assume that liquid gas could be spilled if a roll-over did occur. wouldn't this be a safety issue and shouldn't the government force chrysler to perform a service recall for this? estimated repair charge is going to be around $800. *tr

2005 chrysler t&c stalls after gas fillup. - within the last year my 2005 t&c has begun to stall within 20 seconds after a complete fuel tank fillup. it now will stall several times within the next 2 minutes and is becoming a safety hazard out on the road. the dealer indicates a roll-over valve in the fuel tank may be at fault and a fuel tank replacement is needed. seems a bit excessive for a fault detection sensor. not sure this is the answer. i have read of similar complaints but no identified correction. is there a recall or identified solution? it does not happen on partial fuel refills or if i leave the t&c running during refueling. would appreciate any information as i now feel this is getting worse and may not start after one of these stalls. *tr

Almost every time after we fill up the gas tank of our 2005 town & country, the engine runs rough when we exit the station and many times dies entirely. engine restarts almost immediately and it doesn't happen any other time. even after tune-up, throttle body cleaning and new spark plugs, condition continues. *tr

Gas tank has a hole somewhere close to top,was told it looked like maybe something actually rubbed hole there. it just started leaking gas. i can only put about 10.00 at a time. i am putting it in shop today to have it r epaired because it is very much a safety issue. we were just informed about it when car was returned back to us and that it had been like that since may or june of this year. son checked it and said it looked as if something was rubbing up against it. *tr

Vehicle brakes and steering stopped responding while vehicle was in motion. this lead to crash with a steel gate in an elementary school. chrysler replaced a defective fuel pump but denies any problem with brakes/steering or any correlation between fuel pump problem and failure of brakes/steering. this is an update on my earlier odi 10152826 to include repair details and manufacturer/dealer response on this critical safety issue. *jb

I use chrysler's town and country van limited edition (year 2005). as i was driving , suddenly the vehicle stopped responding to my accelerator. even i press hard vehicle does not pickup the speed. i tried apply the breaks and breaks did not respond. so i have pulled vehicle aside and put it in parking gear (using the gear shift rod) to bring the vehicle to a sudden stop with a jerk. then i switched off the engine. after that engine would not start. happening this on the road is dangerous. i had to do all my controls in the middle of the speeding traffic. i also heard of similar incidents about this vehicle. request you to evaluate this vehicle to save some lives on the road. this problem was diagnosed as failure of fuel pump and service center replaced the fuel pump. *nm

While driving along a quiet suburban street, the engine of my 2005 chrysler dodge caravan quit without warning. with remaining limited braking and steering, i brought the car to a safe stop. the engine would turn over, but would not start. i called for assistance; the dealership service rep confirmed that the fuel gauge sending-unit had stopped working, so even though the fuel gauge showed over half-full, i had run out of gas! the unit was replaced under warranty, leaving me to speculate what might have happened if i'd been miles out of town in a canadian-winter storm, with my family along. *jb

I started hearing a whinning noise coming from the hood of the van a couple of months ago. the noise was worse when the weather was colder and then the engine light came on. took it in and discovered that the powersteering fluid had leaked out and the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the reason the engine light came on wasn't because of the powersteering but because the egr valve needed to be replaced as well as the brakes (front/back) needed replacing. just had them replaced not that long ago. $2300.00 later. drive away, 1 week later engine light comes on again, now i have an engine oil leak and the emissions exhaust system is faulty. i only have 55,000 miles on this vehicle and it is less than 4 years old, i would expect this from an older car. i have a family of 6 to worry about their safety and i am not very confident in this product that chrysler has produced. it is a shame that they are not willing to step up to the plate and admit their faults. they have lost me as a future customer as well as my family and friends. in today's economy, our hard earned money on a teacher's salary is quickly going down the drain with this vehicle. are they waiting for a death to actually occur before they start to honor a recall? i wouldn't have known about this forum if it wasn't for consumer reports. how many chrsyler consumers are out there who don't know where to look and find out that they have a faulty vehicle, that they really aren't down on their luck. you can be sure, that every chrysler owner i come across, i will definitely share this information with. *tr

Failure of egr valve on 2005 town and chrysler touring minivan. this problem is a know issue but chrysler refuses to issue a recall on this problem. the egr valve must atleast carry 100k mile warranty, but in my case as i am frm georgia, i have only 3yr/36k mile part and svc warranty. after calling the corporate office i was able to fight and receive some credit for getting this part replaced as my vehicle has only 60k miles on it. i had to pay a $100 deductible which i still believe is a ripoff for the consumer but a bonus for the dealership. my dealer - mark dodge/chrysler dealership in woodstock georgia - charged me for the $100 deductible + also had me performed a throttle body dvc to clean the carbon built up. the total charges i end up paying on 3/3/09 was $283.20 to this dealer. this is the 2nd time i have paid for a $100 deductible - the last one was for a water pump - although covered under wear and tear warranty - i was able to avoid another hefty ripoff. i believe - that if i hadn't called in chrysler i would have paid close to $500 + the throttle body cleanup svc charge to this mark dodge dealership who were ready to ripoff consumers. with the people of america helping to bailout chrysler - its no wonder why this company will fail otherwise. their track record of producing cheap/shotty cars is visible with dealerships mixed in with their ripoff mktg - i want a complete refund of my deductible for all the parts chrysler has asked to payup as well as additional charges for unnecessary charges for throttle body cleanup )which i might add has been a bone of contention for this particular dealer since 30k mile service). in other states such as ca, the emission warranty must be around 100k for parts. i believe again that chrysler is going down the wrong path of profiting from their experimental cars which needless to say has poor engineering and design written all over it. i want the feds to look into seriously as i am not the only one with this issue. *tr
