We have a 2005 town & country minivan with locks that quit working often. we disconnect the battery for a few minutes and they work again for a day or two. this is very unsafe for many reasons. sometimes they stop working and you don't know it until you get back in your car, thinking the whole time your car is locked and it is not. also, having 3 children riding in a car with locks that don't work is very unsafe. i have a family memeber with the same mininvan and they are having the same problem, how ironic. after reading on-line i have read how common this is. what do we have to do to get chrysler to make a recall on this problem? we don't have the extra money in today's economy to have it fixed at the dealership. i am really hoping there is some way they make a recall on this problem. we have put some thought into getting a new minivan that is not so unsafe for our family. very unhappy with chrysler!!

The auto locks don't work on my 2005 chrysler t&c. i have had continual problems with the auto-locks not working. i have pulled the fuse and have also disconnected the battery for several hours at a time to correct. sometimes this fixes for several days, and sometimes for several months. currently even after resetting by disconnecting the battery, the drivers side sliding door still won't auto lock/unlock when the other doors do. also, the lock/unlock switch on the passenger door does not lock/unlock the doors. i have heard there is a software update for the bcm that addresses this, but even that is not guaranteed to totally fix the issue. also, i don't feel that as it is a known issue, that we should have to pay to have the system updated.

Door locks do not work. the rear sliding doors locked up and would not open. the front side doors will not lock or unlock. i got the rear sliding doors open by climbing in the back and pulling the tab up. the passenger rear sliding door is powered, but it wouldn't work either i finally got it working by pulling the fuse ( which was not blown) but when i put the fuse back in it started working. the safety issue here is , what if a child was in the back and this situation accured. and you were unable to open the doors? *tr

The power door locks do not work either with the fob or with the power lock button on the door panels. the internet is full of discussion on this topic each with several complaints, all of them saying that there is no permanent fix. this vehicle has only one key entry, so that you can open only the door with the key and the one behind it without climbing into the vehicle and crawling around inside. there is much advice on the internet for temporary fixes that require opening the hood and unhooking the battery cable daily to reset a computer etc. *tr

On 2005 chrysler town and country, power door locks completely stop working. van only has one key hole! pulling the battery cables, fixes the problem temporarily, they stop working again. dealer wants $90 to upgrade software. internet search shows this is a very common problem ! software/ update problems should be fixed at no cost. *tr

Power locks failed. i took the van to the dealership in jan. 2009 for other repairs (ck engine light - ended up being a bad egc valve) and when i mentioned the locks had failed the technician immediately asked if the van was a 2005. when i said yes, he told me that there was a defect in the programming of the locks which has caused a high number of them to fail. told i would have to pay $100 to have them fixed. which i did as it has been very inconvenient as there is only one lock for key entry. $100 for it to be reprogrammed was highway robbery. why was there no recall if they knew they were defective? *tr

I attempted to lock my van using the remote. the van did not lock. thought battery was dead in my remote. but sliding door would still open. then i had to manually lock all doors and it's difficult when i'm pregnant. i am unable to unlock all doors using the interior switch and there is only one door that i have to manually unlock with the key. it was constant. someone suggested to pop off the fuse and then put it back. did that. but temporary solution. also the lock will not automatically lock when van is in motion over 20 mph. dangerous as i have kids all under the age of 5. *tr

Randomly, the power locks on my newly purchased 2005 chrysler town & country touring edition (3.8l v6) decided to stop working. research online told us to just remove the fuse labeled iod and then put it back. this does stop the problem but it's temporary and in my case it stopped working. after further research it appears the vehicle needs a computer update which i'm expected to pay for. this update, in my case, would require me to lose my car for at least a week. seeing that i am in a high risk pregnancy i don't think it would be a good idea to not have my car. chrysler knows this is a problem cause they made the update to correct it. i think this is a safety issue. i leave my car, hit the lock button, hear the honk telling me it's locked but it's not. someone can easily get into my car. as well, i have a 2 year old. i have the child locks on but if they malfunction as well or she is outside of the car and manages to open the door when they should be locked she could get her fingers stuck in the heavy door. i also live in bear country. it's not completely unusual for bears to manipulate vehicles and get inside when they are left unlocked. we always lock our cars. we always rely on the car's power lock option that you pay extra for to operate properly. i think the update should at least be offered, rapidly at a chrysler service shop free of charge and the same day you make your appointment as it is a safety hazard. *tr

Edge of sliding door under the scuff plate is razor sharp causing severe cut to dog resulting in approximately 15 sutures. local dealership compared my vehicle to a 2005 t/c on their lot and found the identical razor sharp edge. this problem can happen to child, adult and to dogs entering vehicle. *tr

Door power locks ceased to operate after about 9,000 miles rendering the automatic door locks from operating when vehicle reaches 15 mph which is a safety item. the failure was fixed by a software update downloaded from the main chrysler factory. however, the dealer charged me for this service because the warranty had lapsed. i feel that the software had a latent defect that chrysler should make good as a recall. *tr

I was getting my children out of the minivan and used the automatic door button on the inside of the van to close the door. as the door closed, my 2 yr old suddenly slipped her fingers into the path and the door fully closed on her 2 fingers. i immediately used my remote to open the door and released her fingers and it did not respond after several attempts. i attempted to open the door manually and realized it was locked, and it would not unlock with the remote either. i had to use my key to open the front passenger door and then unlock the doors from within the car and then manually open the door her fingers were stuck in. her fingers appeared completely flat when i was able to remove them but although they were very bruised and swollen for a week or two, they were not broken. i feel we were very lucky that she was so young and small that her fingers were not hurt more and that she had not managed to get her entire hand into the door. the incident happened about a year ago and i assumed it was a fluke accident and did not report it sooner. i am reporting it now because i recently read of this happening to other children with more serious consequences and want to add to the record with our experience. we have been very cautious with our children around the doors and do not close them anymore until we have started walking away from the car but i still worry about them when they are in the car and the doors close. *jb

The power sliding side doors bagan making grinding noise about a year and a half after purchasing my van new) the dealer stated that they wer just dirty. however, 1000 miles after waranty the driver's side passenger door will no longer operate electronically, still function maunually, except it must be opened entirely or it will not relatch. dealer stated that they do not know what was wrong, and will cost at least $150 to diagnose.*ak

I used the power sliding passenger door with remote on key chain and interior power sliding door buttons and the problem is it just stopped working, one day it will unlock and lock when using the buttons but will not close properly or open automatically or close automatically. we have only used the vehicle less than one year when this occurred and the other side is fine but the passenger side does not work properly. *jb

The rear sliding door on our 2005 chrysler town & country has failed, making it impossible to open the door more than 12 inches. this is a safety problem because we obviously have a van so that we can transport our children. the design appears flawed. there is a cheap plastic chain carrier that contains wiring and rides in the door track. this has blown apart, causing the car wiring to be exposed and subject to wear in the door track. although we only have 54000 miles on the car, chrysler says this is a wear and tear item (i.e., we've just used the door too much). they won't fix it, even though the door on the other side is beginning to have problems too (bushings falling off, rough closing, etc). it looks to us like the whole sliding door concept at chrysler needs to be rethought. we can't be the only ones with this problem. for us, opening and closing this door are things of the past until we can come up with the $300 quoted to us by the dealer, jeff wyler in newport, kentucky, for a repair that is obviously a design flaw. contacting chrysler's corporate headquarters (since this is obviously a safety issue with kids riding in the back) got us nowhere--in fact, they also stonewalled for a while on replacing the solenoid on the transmission--which was leaking, indicating to us that chrysler's legendary transmission problems are still not fixed, even on its most recent vehicles. we've owned three chrysler vans, meaning the chrysler has made quite a bit of money off of our family, but this is the last one we'll ever buy. *nm
