VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
01/04/201040000
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler town & country. the contact was driving approximately 2 mph backing out of a parking space. the gear was shifted into the drive position with his foot on the brake pedal. the accelerator pedal was engaged and immediately, there was a loud noise underneath the hood. the vehicle accelerated to rapid speeds and crashed into the front end of a vehicle. the vehicle did not stop and proceeded to crash into the front end of a second vehicle. the contact attempted to apply the brakes and crashed into two other vehicles and a bus. the police was not at the scene. there were no injuries. the manufacturer was notified and advised the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the manufacturer did not investigate the vehicle. the authorized dealer inspected the vehicle and there were no failures within the throttle, braking or accelerator linkage system. the vehicle was destroyed. the failure and current mileages were under 40,000.

I have a 2005 chrysler town and country it started with my locks stopping working i disconnected it and than it worked for a couple of weeks than it would go out again. now my abs and traction control light came on and quit working for a week now the light went out and works i tried the battery thing again but did not work. i'm afraid the computer may stop working when diving. i only have 48,000 miles on it. *tr

2005 chrysler town & country with 30000 miles has had to have the throttle body cleaned 3 times, at 13.5k, 23.8k and 30.1k. each time accelerator pedal began to stick upon slow acceleration. service says carbon buildup is to blame. i use name brand gas, mostly city driving. my 3rd chrysler van, never had this problem. dealer now considers this 'routine' maintenance - after initial two cleanings were done under warranty, had to argue to get third time covered. *jb

While accelerating under cruise control, the brake pedal becomes unusable and the car cannot be slowed down or stopped unless you turn off the control. this is something you do not have time to do in a panic situation. i have complained about this since day one. the dealership has not been able to duplicate the incidents, and has no information on what may cause it let alone how to fix it. i have had passengers see me use both feet on the brake pedal in an attempt to slow down. please note that this happens while driving within speed limits and under good driving conditions. the latest incident will be reported below. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was stopped and the gas pedal was applied, nothing occurred, then rapid acceleration occurred suddenly without warning. the contact had to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident. this happened on a permanent to worsening basis. the dealer was contacted, and determined the vehicle was not included in any recall due to the vin. the vehicle had not been examined. updated 1/29/2007 - the vehicle did not accelerate immediately when the accelerator pedal was pressed. as a result the consumer continued to apply pressure at which time the vehicle finally accelerated suddenly. the accelerator pedal only becomes stuck when accelerating from a complete stop. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle lurched forward without warning. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the throttle body was sticking. the dealer determined a lubricant was needed on the throttle body. the manufacturer was not alerted.

Accelerator petal engaged to the floor and took off down the nj turnpike. i started braking trying to slow the car down while signaling to get over in order to bring the car to a stop.(i was on the truck side..) once over on the side and at a full stop the car continued to run. the engine was running as if i was going 55 miles per hour. i placed the car in park and heard a loud shift/clank nose. i turned the car off and the motor finally stop racing and stopped. my wife and i was so scared... we started to get out if it had not stop running. we thought it would start a fire. we waited a while, started up again, got of the turnpike immediately and drove home very slow. i took it to the dealer the next day. they kept it for a day an a half and told me they couldn't find any problems with the car. the supervisor of repairs said that the computer/diagnosis reads a code: p299s. he also say that the current problem i stated was shown in the computer 260 miles ago. and, that the computer showed that the car was traveling 50 mph while the brake pedal was engaged(at the same time !). who in their right mind would drive a car at high speed while stepping on the brake?. oh, also the supervisor said he wouldn't go changing the computer just because of this. i got my car back, drove it home and parked it. i'm scared to drive it and my wife is too. i haven't decided what to do next.(ps. they were quick to tell me that my car was out of warranty.... ii do have an extended warranty. *nm
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL

1-reported vibration in steering wheel between 20-50 mph [2-possible exhaust leak, i was getting sleepy after 20-30 min drive time, i use recycle mode on a/c due to having asthma [ 3-reported noise from the muffler/exhaust area[4- a/c compressor makes a laboring noise [5-vibration and a growling noise in rear suspension, axle or transmission[6-transmission seems to slip or jerk into and out of gear between 15-45 mph. service department could not duplicate any of my concerns but by the same token my mileage out was the same as my mileage in so i'm not sure it was even driven. three[3] days later i came in and ask for someone to drive with me and the technician was able to hear the noise before we had gone a mile, at that time he thought is was just a loose spare tire but when i came back that afternoon i was told it was the catalytic converter but there was not one in town and as soon as it came in it would be repaired. it was supposedly order on thursday jan 19,2006 and received on jan 26,2006. catalytic converter was replaced on jan 27,2006 as well as exhaust manifold gasket. [7-on this date i also reported on jan 26,2006, when i was braking to slow down to turn right the car engine surged forward and almost lost control of car-nothing was listed on the service copy as cause or what was tested for the engine surging when braking.[8-rear brakes have crystallized and need to be replaced at my cost. am getting other prices at this time. *nm
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - CRUISE CONTROL
04/20/2008570001
The cruise control will come on by itself and drop out on an intermittent basis. the drop out is annoying, but the self apply of the cruise causes the vehicle to speed up also intermittently. there has been a few close calls. taken to the dealer, and they have found no problem. *tr

Currently this vehicle has approx. 18,000 miles. has been to the dealer 4 times with a 5th visit coming soon. chrysler should give away complementary cots and pillows to new car customers so that they can sleep at the service departments at dealerships, especially the union shops that don't work on saturdays (and seem not to care about the vehicle in the first place). 1. broken forward engine mount, 2. loose sway bar/sway bar mounts replaced, 3. high pitched grinding noise on cold startup (maybe the starter but since it never does it at the dealership i'll never know for sure), 4. cruise control does what it wants to (set it to 55 mph, it can actually go down to 51 or up to 59 depending on the terrain, dealer says it's normal), 5. power steering (red) fluid is leaking, now there's a surprise! and finally 6. the driver's side window makes creaking noises when it's going up, i know it's not a safety issue but it is annoying. i should have forked over the extra cash for a sienna or odyssey minivan, you get what you pay for. this is my first and last chrysler. *jb
