Same as complaint nhtsa id number: 10496186 and nhtsa id number: 1049507. the problem was a defective wire harness in the drivers side door. my vehicle had the air bag light intermittently going on/off in addition the these issues stated in these two complaints. i called chrysler then took it back to the dealer and said to re-check safety recall k25 which i already have had completed that had caused the air bag light to go on/off . as it turns out, because the drivers side electric door locks and window switches did not work, the mechanic found the wiring harness in the drivers side door was defective and replaced it. now all the crazy flashing air bag light, dashboard warning lights, windshield wipers, interior lighting, ect ect have stopped. my 2008 town and country had the wiring harnesses recalled for the sliding side doors and i already had those harnesses replaced. this driver door harness problems were much worse because i never knew if the air bag had failed or was working properly. everything works ok now that the driver side door wiring harness was replaced. *tr

The following has been happening for over a week now. when starting my vehicle, the wipers independently turned on, the headlights flashed every time the wipers where deployed independently. the wiper and light on/off was checked. turned off and on, and still both items flashed, and swiped by themselves. january 29th, operator was driving 25 mph, all dash lights blinked, including but not limited to, esp, brake, engine, and airbag lights, airbag light remained on, wipers deployed and rpm gauge reduced to 0 for 5 seconds. pulled over turned ignition off, opened door, shut door restarted vehicle. the above repeated itself, with more errors, now the driver window controls did no longer work. this happened repeatedly for 5 full minutes before resuming normal operation.

After driving approximately 10 miles home from work, i parked the van in my driveway, took the keys, and went inside. about five minutes later, my horn began to blow, windshield wipers rapidly moving and spraying windshield wiper fluid everywhere, all the doors locked, and this continued until battery was disabled. hooked battery back up and began to drive. after a few miles, the headlights went out, the windshield wipers began rapidly wiping and spraying, the horn frantically blowing, and doors unlocked and locked several times. had to again remove the battery to stop. contacted chrysler who claims they have never heard of such a thing. come to find hundreds of similar complaints. *tr

During the past three months all of a sudden the horn starts blowing erratically, the windshield washers and wipers activate, lights start flashing, the doors lock automatically and the transmission will not shift into high. this has happened five or six times since aug., having occurred four times in the past three weeks. it happens while the car is running and while it is not. with each incident the symptoms become worse and the duration is longer. last week, i had to pull off the road and wait five or ten minutes for it to stop as i could not see where i was going. yesterday, it occurred while sitting in the garage and i had to disconnect the battery to stop it. the chrysler dealer says it is the total integrated power module that needs to be replaced @$524.12. additionally now at 54,000 miles the front rotors are warped and need to be replaced @ $409. they had to be replaced @ 25,834 and 35,272. when the brakes are applied the front end and steering vibrate uncontrollably. both conditions are safety issues, have been well document by hundreds of people, and are obvious inherent defects in the vehicle, and should be issues that result in a recall of these vehicles and repairs or replacements made at chrysler's expense, yet they continue to deny there is an inherent problem. both issues could result in a serious accident.

Pushed the automatic sliding door key on the remote. the horn started blowing non stop. the windshield wipes were moving with windshield washer fluid spraying non stop. this didn't stop by pushing any key or manually unlocking the vehicle or starting the van. we had to disconnect and cables from the battery to get it to stop. when the tow truck arrived an hour later and reconnected the battery, the van didn't start. *tr

Van was parked went out to run to store would not start. had no power to anything, no windows, no radio, no instrument panel, gages don't come on when key is on. had bettery tested was fine. contacted dealer they had no idea. got van to start with remote starter but when i put key the key in and put to on van shuts off and refuses to start. called chrysler they had no clue and referred me back to the dealer.prior to this the van was running fine. have only owned it 4 months. seen other complaints about electrical issues and seems to be ongoing. you would think that chrysler would do a recall on the electrical system but who am i. this is the first chrysler that i have owned and has put a bad taste in my mouth about owning another since they have had numerious complaints and fail to resolve the issue nor does the dealer want to so the next step is contacting the better business bureau and the attorney general to investigate. *tr

The dash flashed, and the headlights would no longer turn on. this is due to the tipm (totally integrated power module) shorting out, and has been reported all over the internet with various dodge, chrysler, jeep vehicles. i was made to pay approximately $250 for the repairs. in addition, a month later, the wireless ignition node died and the car would not start at all, and for that i had to pay $606.
10/06/201252000
When we used the remote key to unlock our van the alarm sounded, the horn keep beeping, the wipers - both front and back, started, wiper fluid sprayed from both the front and back, the doors would not unlock and the lights stayed on. once i got in the car ( using a traditional key inside the remote ) i could not control any of the above. it eventually stopped only to start again when i used the remote to lock the car. the battery died and the car was towed to a shop. a new battery was replaced and the car computer reset. i drove it 5 miles home and parked it. 3 hours later i went to unlock the car and the entire process started again - both front and back wipers, lights on, wiper fluid spewing on both windows, car alarm and lights flashing. again, i could not get in to the car as it remained locked. the battery had to be unwired for this all to stop. the car was towed back to the shop. this time we found out it was the tipm ( totally integrated power module ). the cost of this is over $700. our car is only 4 years old and after researching this problem i am finding out this is a very common problem with the chrysler town and country 2008 model. if this happened while i was driving it could be an extreme safety hazard on the road. i want chrysler to issue a recall on this and issue mine and everyone elses money back - not only for the faulty part but for all the time and inconvenience this causes on car owners. please don't want until a fatality happens.

Along with the hundreds of complaints, i too have a problem with horn, lighting, wipers and fluid, car running with no key in ignition etc. while out of town the car had these happen and brought to a certified chrysler shop. they diagnosed as a bad battery connection after a mechanic driving to his home and back. i was sent on my way after paying $100. not a large amount but silly when you have to bring the car to my local shop for the same problem three days later. this time it happened while driving at night in the middle of the road. i am appalled by how many complaints have been filed and there has not been a recall on this could be fatal defective part that is shutting down a car with no warning while driving. what do 90% of mini van drivers have in common? children!!! how unsafe and absurd. fyi my car is going to be fixed under an extended warranty but this is a major safety concern for anyone that drives a chrysler van. *tr

Yes i having and issue with my wife's 2008 chrysler town and country minivan, about a week ago the ignition module where the key fob sits while driving, has been shifting to the off position on its own while the vehicle is in motion, thus taking power away from the steering and braking system. it has created two incidents where my wife ran off the road dented the left sliding door and scratched the van up, and the other incident was when she was back up it shut down and she slammed into the park vehicle and dented the rear tail gate cause she was not able to bring it to a stop, no damage to other vehicle was made. so we had the vehicle towed to the nearest chrysler dealership, and found out that several thousand of these vehicles are under recall, except my year/model they start the recall one year newer than my model which has the same type of ignition module, inwhich i am having the same exact safety issue as the newer model. i was informed by the dealership that to repair it back to whole, that is a new module, and 2 new keys are they old keys wont work that it will cost me $800... this is absurd, this is safety issue, and the recall needs to be widened to allow all models with these junk ignition modules to be replaced for the safety of the general public. i don't think i should have to pay for a serious safety issue as this, when my model of vehicle certainly should have been included, as it has the same problem. i have contacted chrysler headquarters and filed a formal complaint, now i am waiting to see how they handle this. *tr

While camping with the van off and the keys out of the vehicle. horn started honking. windshield wipers started going. washer fluid started to spray. hazards started to flash. started and shut off the van to no avail of stopping all the commotion. finally unhooked the battery to make it stop. took it to the dealer 2 days later and they found nothing wrong. one week later while my wife was driving the van. all of the devices again turned on for no reason. she pulled over and shut off the vehicle. after 5 minutes it finally stopped. when she started driving it again and when she started to drive it would not shift out of 3 gear. she pulled over and shut it off. started it up again and it worked fine. 3 days later my wife and kids took it and all the devices turned on again out in the parking lot with the van off and keys out of it. when she started the van it would only run for like 20 seconds and then quit running. tried it numerous time to no avail. she wait 30 minutes while i was driving to pick them up. she started it again and it work fine. it still acts up about ever 2 to 3 days. dealership says it cant fix the problem cause it cant find anything wrong and cant reproduce the problem. *tr

Our 2008 town and country lx is experiencing problems with the windshield wipers, horn, dash board lights and radio. when the drivers side door is opened, all of the above items are happening. the dealership where we bought it (not a chrysler dealer) suggested we take it to a chrysler dealer to have the tipm (totally integrated power module) replaced as only the chrysler dealers can do this. after reading so many posts, it appears there are close to 3,000 people having the same problem. i wanted to officially file the complaint but will conduct further research before shelling out $500-1000 to the dealership as thousands of others have. 50% of the problems i read about stated that the tipm didn't totally solve the problem. thank you *tr

My car acts possessed. the horn honks, wipers are on at full speed with fluid spraying everywhere, the locks go crazy (locking and unlocking by themselves), if the car is in motion the motor dies in traffic. this has happened several times since july 14, 2012. (at least 5 times per week). last night the fan motor came on by itself and ran the battery down. we had to unplug the fan motor to get it to stop. hopefully we can find out what is causing this issue. *tr

General electrical malfunction that makes vehicle unsafe. while driving down the highway, the horn started honking uncontrollably and without provocation. even worse, the front windshield wipers and washers also activated making forward visibility difficult especially given we were heading east early in the morning. and, the door locks also cycled up and down. the dealer ran some diagnostics and also communicated the problem to the factory. the dealer had said that the factory thought the electrical problem originated from the tipm but they were not sure and said the cost would be $500. because of the high cost of the repair and the unsurety that the problem would be fixed, i did not have them replace the tipm. the problem occurred again soon after and so i pulled the two horn fuses. of course, that stopped the horn problem, but it also seemed to stop the washer/wiper and door lock problem. in june of this year, there was a recall about the electrical system the involved water getting into some parts of the air bag system. it was thought that this might be the indirect cause of my problem after all and so i reinstalled the horn fuses. not too long after, the original horn-blaring, washer/wiper activity and door locking and unlocking returned. this time, after pulling the horn fuses, i went to the dealer to see about getting this dangerous problem fixed. they said that the electrical part was backordered (by some 450 parts!) and that they would call me. that was a month ago and still no call. so, even after deciding to fix the problem, chrysler is not supplying the parts to do so! it is dangerous to drive with no horn or wipers! does chrysler have some 450 of these dangerous problems reported and not doing anything about it? with the inherent dangerous nature of the problems, i think there should be a recall. so this is why i am writing you. *js

While waiting on my husband to run in a store i was sitting in the van engine running. i touched nothing and the van went off. the doors locked, wipers , cleaning fluid, horn and it was scary. my husband released the hood and disconnected the battery cable. we could not start van without all going off again. we called a tow and van taken to auto repair shop. they checked it out and said it needed a new safety electronic component. they said van was to dangerous to drive, and it would take 3 months for the part. it is now in our garage with battery disconnected. this is our only way of transportation and what are we to do now? how are we to get to appointments, grocery and whatever? ## vin passed ## chrysler van 2008/town & country ##. *tr

While sitting in the parking lot of the supermarket, with the engine off, the horn sounded continuously, the front and rear wipers started running and the washer fluid sprayed the rear window continuously. i opened the hood of the car and tugged on the power lead going into the tipm and everything stopped. another time i was driving the van when all of the systems mentioned started going again. i pulled the van over, turned off the engine and exited the van with my keys in my pocket. i opened the hood to tug on the power lead again, but to my surprise the engine was still running (without the key in the ignition and the ignition off!) i tugged the power lead and all systems stopped and the engine shut down. i started the car, reset the wipers and was on my way. i've had this van to my mechanic several times now and he's still having problems getting it fixed. this is going on intermittently for 2 years. when i first had the problem, i brought to chrysler and they said it was a dirty battery terminal (not true) then they said it was a loose connection at the computer (not true) then the warranty ran out, and they said to leave the van and they would do some tests on the van and that it could cost about 800 dollars if it was the computer or a module. i didn't leave it because i don't trust them. why isn't there a recall on the problem? i've had the van die while i was driving, thankfully it was on a side street and not while i was attempting to enter a highway. there are many people on the internet with the same exact problem and nothing is being done. now chrysler is saying that the tipm could be defective from the manufacturer and they are trying to locate another company to make them. they are on back order. why should the consumer be responsible for a manufacturers defect? please help! *tr

When opening door after unlocking and disengaging alarm, horn abruptly comes on continuously and wipers start. pulled battery cable to shut off. imagine if i had been driving and this happened. could have caused a crash with me or others. afraid to even drive it to the dealer for repair. what if it locked my child in the car in the summer heat? this should be a mandatory recall immediately!!!!!

My tipm module needs to be replaced but since there is a national shortage for this part. i like thousands of others have to wait 6-9 months before there will be any available. this part has been on back order for a very long time. chrysler is very lucky that no one has been seriously hurt.

The vehicle was parked at the time of the incident, with doors unlocked. the vehicle suddenly locked the doors, began sounding the horn, front/back windshield wipers turned on, and lights began flashing. i initially believed the alarm system was going off, but the vehicle would not unlock with the use of the key. after about five minutes, it appeared that power was failing and the vehicle began leaking out all of the windshield wiper fluid in front/back. soon after, the power seemed to die, but the front end of the vehicle (under the battery) continued to make a clicking noise. the vehicle will not power on with the use of the key, and the car had to be manually unlocked on the drivers side. when researching similar symptoms on the internet, it was found that this is a manufacturer defect and could have occurred while driving, with the loss of steering control and breaks.

I got into my vehicle the morning of 6/5/12, at approximately 7:45am after dropping my daughter off at daycare to find my vehicle had no radio, air/heat, windows, blinkers brake lights or any other electrical features. i drove it less than a half mile from the daycare to my office, where i shut it off, got out and called my dealership who suggested i should bring it in immediately. after setting up the service call, i got back into the vehicle after less than 30 minutes and everything appeared to work. upon arriving at the dealership about 15 minutes later, i left it with the service department to review. about 1 day later, it was determined that the tipm (totally integrated power module) was faulty and a new one would need to be put in. now 9 days later, it is still at the dealership in the service department because no one knows when the part will be available, there appears to be a back order with the supplier and no one at the dealership or so far the mfg. can get me answers. i did file a complaint/case with chrylser on 6/12/12 to document my concerns as i have no been without a vehilce for 9 days and need a vehicle in order to function with my day to day activities including work which is approximately a 25 mile commute one way. it was suggested i file a complaint with the nhsta for it to be on record.

On 3 different occasions i experienced an engine shut down while easing foot off accelerator pedal to make a turn or slow down to stop. i experienced a bump and instrument dash lights came on. once the sound of a bell rang as if the key is left in the ignition. however, when i depressed the accelerator while the vehicle was still moving the engine restarted. i have had a mechanic from a reputable repair shop test drive and run a computer diagnostc check and nothing appeared to be wrong. this problem is definitely a saftey problem and need to be corrected by the chrysler corp. i have read of other similar complaints/problems.

Windshield wipers going without being turned on; washer fluid continually spewing out; horn honking continually; lights flashing on and off; doors locked. while driving to the dealership, van stalled in traffic. finally was able to get it there with the enging running and the key off. could be a very dangerous situation if vehicle caught fire due to electrical problems and i am unable to get out because the doors are locked and the knobs are down in the door so you can't pull them up to escape. it was like the vehicle was possessed. i purchased this vehicle for my mother to drive and i am afraid for her to use it. the dealership kept it for a day and said it would need a tipm, but it was on back order and wouldn't be in until possibly 1-3 months. ridiculous! they can make several vehicles in one day and can't a part for 1-3 months. they said we probably shouldn't drive it. that's certainly inconvenient for us since we don't have extra vehicles. while the vehicle was sitting in my driveway, all of the same things happened again-horn honking, windshield wipers going, washer fluid spilling out, doors locked-while it was just sitting in my drive. we were told to unhook the negative battery cable. something needs to be done about this issue because apparently i am not the only one with this problem as noted in other entries listed. we have not had a crash, fire or injury/fatality as of yet, but i want the problem resolved before that happens!!!

I was driving the van home going about 45 mph, when all of the lights on the dash flashed on and the gauges all shot up. i lost my power steering, and realized that the van was no longer running. i tried my best to pull it off of the road, but it was difficult without power steering. the dash lights were all still on at this point. once i was semi-safely off the road, i put the car in park and shut the ignition off. i immediately turned the ignition back on, and it seemed fine. i continued home. this has happened to me on several different occasions. after about the 3rd time, i had a local store service it. we did not have a chrysler dealership at the time. they could get no error code in the diagnostics, but told me the throttle plate sensor (?) needed to be cleaned, and perhaps that would help. it did not. it continues to do this, and there is never any warning. so far, it has only happened to me going 45 or so. i've contacted chrysler about this, and of course they have no record of this type of problem. i told her all she had to do was google it. that's what i did. their advice was to either hand it over to the dealership to see if they could get it to malfunction (but since it could be weeks or months before it happens, that's really not an option, is it?) or the next time it does that, document everything that happens (as i've done here and reported to them) and take it to the dealership. i stressed that the van always restarts, and the chances that they'd find a code to explain what had already happened and was now over was pretty minimal. it seems that just don't care to dig deeper, or research possible causes, or even take a vehicle that's having this issue and study it under a microscope. looks like they're just keeping their fingers crossed that no one actually dies as a result of this issue.

Drove vehicle successfully to location, then came back to vehicle to open doors with remote. pressed open sliding door on remote, the vehicle instantly started a continuous honk and the windshield wipers and fluid started to go off. i was unable to unlock vehicle until it finally stopped 5 minutes later. i was able to turn it on and drive home. then it occurred again in the afternoon but this time my kids were locked inside in the heat. finally able to unlock and get kids out, neighbor got the hood open and disconnected battery. very scared that they could be locked in there again in this heat. i did call chrysler and awaiting a resolution.

Our 2008 town & country touring has begun shutting down while moving without warning. it has happened six times in 3 months at both lower speeds, and once going 60+ mph on a busy interstate. when it loses power, we lose steering and breaking power making it very difficult to control the vehicle. this is a very dangerous situation, particularly for a car normally filled with children. it also occasionally will stall every time you start it. ours will throw no codes and not warning lights come on, so no one has been able to find the problem. the dealership claims no knowledge. this problem is discussed on multiple forums and going back only one year there are at least 7 other complaints of the same issue (odi id numbers: 10453837, 10452564, 10450629, 10441113, 10438800, 10428568 & 10422766) and many more dating past that. i know you all are probably very busy reviewing complaints, but chysler and nhtsa should not be waiting for some one to get in a serious accident before figuring this out becomes a prioirty.

The windshield wipers both front and back, the washer fluid and horn all turn on randomly while driving or parked with the ignition off, the doors refuse to unlock or lock, the headlights turn on and off randomly while driving or parked. the dashboard gauges stop working all together or all of the warning lights turn on and off and the radio/navigation will turn on and off. all of the mentioned symptoms occur regardless of whether the ignition is on or not and randomly with no notification or predictability. the dealer wants in excess of $1000 to repair but offers no guarantee that it will not reoccur.

Our 2008 chrysler town & country leaked water from a manfacturer defect in the ac drain tube, rotted the carpet and underlay, filled the wiring harness under the passenger carpet with water. the drain tube was replaced under a recall. the ac started to blow hot air.the dealer said it was the ac compressor so we had it replaced. $ 800. this did not fix the problem so they said it needed the ac pressure switch and harness so we replaced it. $400. this still did not fix the problem so the chrysler dealer then diagnosed the tipm. after $ 1200 we still have no ac. we have another $ 500 to pay if we can ever get the part. the whole problem is from the water from the defective drain tube shorting the electrical system and chrysler know it. the dealer said the tipm was on back order and there were 600 others ahead of us. we contacted chrysler but they are just giving us the run around. we bought chrysler to support american jobs. what a grave mistake.

Driving the car in regular, dry, daylight, conditions in traffic at 35mph... engine stops, no power brakes, no power steering, no warning lights displayed, electrical system seems operation (radio is on). car is very hard to control with the loss of power steering/breaking and the engine can't be restarted unless the car is in park, so i have to pull over. this has happned 5 times in the past 12 months, randomly. i have taken it to the dealership twice to have this repaired, and they say they have never heard anything like it. i just did a google search and there is a recall on 2010 model year for a problem with the exact same description!!!
02/22/201253000
While driving down the interstate at 45 mph the traction control light indicator flashed and all the gauges zeroed out and the van lost power and steering control making it extremely difficult and unsafe to remove from highway. this has happened on three occasions in the past 3 weeks since i have purchased it from dealership as used car. putting the vehicle in park then restarting it seems to fix the problem temporarily, although i am concerned driving it on the road with me and my children in the van. now the engine light came on and had diagnostics run. code p0406 - showing ecm has detected the egr position sensor voltage was too high, probable causes could be: failed egr position sensor, open or short circuit condition, failed egr valve, failed egr pressure sensor where applicable, or failed egr position senser where applicable.
04/01/201132000
Wireless ignition module was replaced after repeated failures - van would unexpectly stall while driving - the key would move from the run position to the accessory position. after 6-8 weeks and many visits to the dealership the module was replaced. within the past month the same symptoms have occoured an additional three times - aprox 11 months after the first occourance - van is now out of warranty and has 47k miles. i noticed there may be a simiular problem in 2010 model year vans and a 1/4 of a million were recalled. what the issue addressed but chrylser says it is out of warranty.

Description of the complaint: my 2008 chrysler town and country, , just stopped working last night. drove it around all day and it was fine. went in to work, and when i came out that night to go home, the lights were all working, and the power doors and windows worked. however, the radio stopped working, the power windows no longer work, and the car will not start. it will not try to turn over. you can turn the key and nothing happens. the starter does not click, the motor doesn't do anything at all. since we can't put it in gear due to the security lockout, we have towed it to a repair shop. this is a major issue considering it is the only vehicle my family has, and now we have no way to get our kids to the doctor or to school. they said it was a fuse box which has to bee ordered but will take a while since there has been a shortage of these items. they said the dealers were out, probably because of a manufactures defect. they said there was not a recall as of yet.

On sept. 7, 2011 we experienced a second incident where the vehicle totally shut down while in motion. took it to the chrysler dealer and they performed a software update ,tsb 18-003-09 , and they said this should correct the problem. we performed a dealership battery replacement on 8-1-11. on dec. 14th, 2011 the problem re-occurred, while leaving a parking lot traveling under 10 mph. now with out power steering assistance, i was barely able to manually maneuver the vehicle to a open parking spot, stop, put the vehicle in park and it restarted. on dec. 22, 2011 the problem re-occurred, while backing out of my driveway traveling under 10 mph. stopped vehicle, placed it into park and it restarted. i called the same chrysler dealership whom performed the above stated repair, the earliest appointment date they were able to give was dec. 27, 2011. this is incident is extremely dangerous and alarming to the safety of a family of six. we have google'd this type of incident and have read a lot of similar occurrences. we would like to recommend to the ntsb to conduct a full investigation into this type of incident and issue a safety recall recommendation to chrysler in order to proactively avoid loss of life's due to this total system failure in which chrysler has been made aware of.

Beginning in 2010, both rear sliding doors began malfunctioning. when opened either with the remote or inside button, they begin to open and when most of the way open, close on its own. it started out doing it infrequently, about once every 50 times the door was opened. over the last year it has become more frequent, doing it about once every few days or so. once in 2010, my 3 year old daughter was getting out and the door malfunctioned and caught her in between, causing a bruise on her face. for some reason the door did not bounce back when it made contact with her, but thankfully i was standing there and was able to manually force the door back open.this year, the door again malfunctioned and almost caught my 8 yr old, but he managed to get out of the way. i have taken it to the dealer twice for this and both times they told me it is functioning fine.the first time i picked it up from the dealer i tested the door. i opened and shut it about 15 times and it malfunctioned. i went inside to get the repair tech to show him and when it didn't happen again he told me there was nothing he could do. when i brought the van in again to have them look at it the second time, they again told me it was functioning fine and that since my van needed a new battery that they thought the battery was the problem.the door did it again that night and again after that three days later. i contacted them twice about it again, asking them if i video taped it if they would believe me and figure out what was wrong.they told me it wouldn't matter and that they would need to keep it until they saw it.they had my van this last time for 5 days! i had to pay $217 for a rental because they didn't find anything. this is dangerous! i have four children getting in and out everyday. i don't have the money for rentals for an unspecified amount of time, but this is dangerous and needs to get fixed!

We have been continuously hassled with electrical issues with our van. for approximately 4 months we have been experiencing brief issues with all the lights coming on in the gauge cluster along with a pulsing of the dashboard lights and the resetting of the electrical components randomly in the van. we replaced the battery and the issue seemed to go away. after 2-3 weeks it started up again. me and my family were driving down a highway for about 30 minutes when the cluster gauge suddenly started beeping and all the lights began to flash on and off, the speedometer and tachometer dropped to 0, the radio turned on and off multiple times and the engine shut down briefly while driving on the highway. immediately after the problem began i pulled off the road and restarted the car, the problem was gone! two days later my wife was taking our kids to school, and after less than 5 minutes of driving the car she experienced the exact same issues. this time before she made it off the road there was a complete loss of power, the brakes stopped working and the steering wheel completely locked up, she was unable to make it to the side of the road! again after a immediate restart the problem went away. we contacted the dealer and we were told that if they could not recreate the problem, there was nothing they could do to fix it. this is a issue because the problem happens randomly. we are aware that this problem has plagued a very large group of consumers and the dealer does nothing but repair random parts because they cannot properly recreate the problem due to its randomness. i feel the problem could easily cause a fatality if the steering wheel locks up at high speed or while turning!

This car has been nothing but problems since the moment i bought it. it is so aggravating that chrysler won't own up to the issues with these cars. aside from the multiple recalls this car has had in three years, the break system is awful. i had replaced the front breaks and rotors around 28000 miles (maybe earlier i can't remember). now the back breaks are shot and once again, i will need breaks and rotors that will cost me $375 according to the dealer. my car has 38,000 miles on it. i have owned mini vans in the past and many cars and never have i had to replace both front and rear break pads/rotors this soon. my tires are so bald that all four need replacing. again, i have never had to replace tires this soon on any of my vehicles over the years. the radio sometimes will not come on or will go black. the factory battery needed replacing at 30,000 miles which was extremely unusual as well. the side doors need to manually be closed when exiting vehicle because if i use the automatic switch, they bounce back. i have come out of stores with my doors wide open. when using the cruise control on the highway, the car with suddenly accelerate with rpms going into the red zone. only way to stop it is to turn off cruise control. this morning on my way to work pulling out of my neighborhood i heard a grinding sound as the car began breaking on its own. meanwhile the ebs and abs lights came on. i pulled over, shut off the car and turned it back on. drove up the road and lights are still on. this car is junk all around. i have only had it for three years, still have a car payment. ridiculous. i may just lease next time. that way chrysler can pay for repairs.

Vehicle in park with ignition on when horn began sounding constantly and windshield wipers (front and back) began to operate at high speed. turned off ignition and removed key and the vehicle did not turn off. continued for several minutes. reinserted key and took it out again with no response. vehicle was still running, all instrument guages flashing. next incident vehicle was in motion at approximately 40 mph when same thing happened, vehicle stalled and power assist and brakes were not working. blaring horn and wiper activity incontrolably has happened several times. now afraid to drive on highway. dealer states incident must be occuring at the time it is brought in for them to assess and fix. this is a clear safety hazard. a quick review of owner complaints on the internet shows this is a common problem. how can this not be a recall event? does a fatality need to occur first? i am not willing to risk my family,.

The car will shut down will driving, locking the steering and braking system at random times. the cars wipers/wiper spray/horn all start going off at random. the car won't start leaving me stranded. it is almost as if the battery is dead, this is the 2nd replacement batter in 4 months. the battery has been tested, it is fine. the dealer cannot fix the car, they replaced the horn after the car went crazy and blew it out costing me $350.00.. i still pay a hefty car payment on this lemon and no one can fix it. i am of course more worried about the safety issue, i transport children/grandparents. do i want them to be a statistic because chrysler won't stand behind their automobile. i have tried unsuccessfully to reach them and all i get is a generic form letter. i drive through the mountains and have had to replace (not turn) the rotors every time i go. this is not normal.

The wiper blades (both front and back window) turn on without warning. the windshield wiper fluid will spurt out. and the horn will honk. these items will act like this for a short time and up to 10 minutes and won't stop. the car has stopped while i have been driving and will not start for up to 15 minutes. the cars engine will be running even after turning the key to off and taking the key out of the ignition. i have not used the transponder for no other reason than to start the car. the wipers, fluid and horn do not happen all of the time but, it does happen frequently. the car stopping has occurred twice and while my mobility limited mother was in the car with me.

Vehicle ignition switch will occasionally revert from on to off postion with an audible click and car will immediately die. this has happened with the vehicle at rest, but has also commonly occured when making left hand turns at low speed. the vehicle is left coasting in whichever direction it was pointed as power steering assist is immediately lost. i have not been killed, but its obviously a dangerous situation. apparently a recall exists for 2010 model chrysler town and country minivans. it should be extended to include the 2008 that i have. its likely the same ignition part.

After dropping off passenger after lunch the horn blew intermittently and wipers came on for a few seconds and stopped on my 2008 chrysler town and country that i bought a year ago as a certified preowned. drove across parking lot and horn blew once or twice and decided to head to dealership (40 min away) for diagnosis. was driving down highway 20 mintues later and horn blew continuously, wipers going, washer fluid spraying, vehicle shut off, lost power steering and power brakes. had to coast to side of the road and call tow truck while waiting in 95 degree heat with no air. thank god i was in the right lane and traffic was light. dealership found 11 codes that had to be reset and drove it around and didn't come back on. they didn't know cause of problem but suggested a tip module but said that wasn't for sure the issue. excellent dealership service department that didn't want to just throw needless parts and money at a potentially fatal problem had it happened on a busy interstate. so now we're waiting to see if it happens again.

When driving the vehicle will suddenly loose power, lights, washers, washer fluid and horn will start blaring and goes crazy, will have to pull over stop the car, wait few minutes and restart the car, will then honk and wipers/fluids will go for a brief second and then stop, happens at least 2-3 times a month, will even happen as locking or unlocking the car with the remote key= took to dealer, nothing wrong, charged $200 for new key, still doing the same thing, owe too much to trade in.
07/20/201135500
After arriving at work and entering my office, i heard a horn continuously going off and realized it was coming from my 2008 chrysler town and country. when i went outside, i also noticed that the front and rear windshield wipers were on at a high speed, as well as my lights. the instrument panel inside was flashing and the hazard lights were flashing. i then realized that the van was actually on and running... without the key in the ignition! somehow it had started itself up (mine does not have that feature). i tried everything i could think of to get it to stop by turning on the ignition with the key, pressing and holding the brake - nothing worked. after about 5 minutes, a coworker came to help me disconnect the battery but just before we disconnected it the van stopped and it was quiet again. i cranked the car up with the key and everything seemed to be normal. i have yet to drive it so i will see in a few hours if anything is affected. i plan on calling my dealership today about this problem!
07/10/201162891
Van stalled unexpectedly on a highway almost causing an accident, resulting in a traffic jam. the electrical system goes haywire unexpectedly while driving, resulting in the horn going off for minutes, front and rear wiper blades and windshield washer fluid going off, head lights and interior lights going on and off. van will not turn off when ignition switch is put on off and key removed. the van has been taken to the deal several times, but the problem has not been resolved. the dealer has been unable to identify the problem. both children and myself have been in the car exposing us to potential safety risk and life threatening situations
06/19/201145000
My 2008 chrysler town and country sporatically acts up. the wipers go nuts, the washer fluid empties, the horn goes off, and the last time the car shut down, and i had no power steering and no brakes. i had my 2 children in the car and it was very scary. thankfully i was able to get off the road and bump into the curb to stop. if i were on a highway or busy road it would have ended in an accident and could kill my family or someone else. the service dept thought they fixed it by reflashing some modules but it happened a few more times after that and now they say they can't replicate the problem again so they want me to take the car until it happens again. i think that is poor service for a problem that is definitely a safety issue and can cause a death. this issue is not new as i have read about it online i am just trying to find someone who has had it fixed so i can tell the service dept. what they need to do and i can drive my car safely with my family. this should be an issue chrysler needs to address!

Problem 1 - the van vibrates violently when braking downhill. changing brake pads, rotors and calipers does not repair the problem. problem 2 - during warm weather (80 degrees and above) the wipers run continually, the powered drivers seat goes back and forth, the gauges do not work, all of the warning lights come on, the headlights come on, the stereo/nav will not work, the a/c quits cooling but the fan continues to blow, the power window will not work and the lift gate will not open.

The protective lenses covering the mirror mounted turn signals falls off as it was only lightly glued on at the factory. this leads to rain and other items coming in contact with the bare circuit board the controls the led turn signals. this can lead to malfunction where the mirror mounted turn signals will not properly activate especially when raining. chrysler has fixed the design issue in the newer replacement leds however the dealer charges $80s per side for parts only. i was quoted several hundred for installing the new parts.
