While driving a new 2006 town and country, the vehicle would not shift out of 2nd gear. initially, pulling over, shutting the car off, and restarting the car would resolve the issue. however, after this shut-off procedure the car would downshift very rough (with an audible banging noise). vehicle was brought to the dealership where it was purchased within 24 hours of the first symptom. the check engine light did illuminate. dealership has had the car for 4 days at this point without even having diagnosed the problem. we are driving a rental vehicle as a substitute. *ak

Our 2006 chrysler town & country minivan had experienced a broken axle at just 16,000 miles. quite a short distance for something like that to happen. *jb

Left front drive axle shaft broke while driving slowly in destin florida while we were on vacation. if this had happened while i was driving 70 mph on the interstate i can imagine several tragic consequences. this van is gently driven, well-maintained, and gave no warning of failure before-hand.
