2008 chrysler town & country minivan. around 17,000 miles the van started making noise when applying the brakes took it in and the brake pads were replaced, then less than 300 miles later it was screeching and the brake pads & rotors had to be replaced. i filed a complaint then odi id number : 10326711. to their credit, chrysler did reimburse us. now in july 2010, the brakes are making noises and we take it to chrysler and they told us it needs new brake pads an rotors again, this is less than 6,000 miles later. however the rotors are on backorder and will not be in until late august. it is now october 26th, 3 months later and we have just been told for the fifth straight time that the rotors are still on backorder and they do not expect them until sometime in november. our car now shakes and shimmys and sqeals & screeches when we apply the brakes. this cannot be good for the vehicle and has to be affecting the wheels, axles, bearings, etc not to mention whatever else on the car is getting shaken out of place. i feel it is a rolling deathtrap and should not even be allowed on the highway. chrysler has admitted they have brake problems and sent out letters to assist with paying for new brakes however, making someone wait for over 3 months for brake parts is criminal! the dealership where we have been trying to get the parts says they are so sorry but this has been an on going problem with the chrysler minivans. we even called the dealership in a town about 60 miles away and they too confirmed the rotors are on backorder. please investigate this and step in and do something before serious accidents and injuries occur.

Complaint is on a 2008 chrysler town & country minivan. the brake system is junk. my vehicle has 30,000 miles on it and i am in the process of putting front brakes on for the third time. if you count the brakes that come with the vehicle then it is 4 times. i have also replaced the rear brakes. i have owned vehicles in the past and this is the first time that i had to replace brakes let alone three times within 30,000 miles. the first time being 10,000 miles. i drive my child around in this vehicle and i believe that this is unsafe. if you look this problem up on the internet you would be amazed with the many similar complaints. something really should be done with chrysler.

I am the owner of a 2008 chrysler town and country touring edition minivan, i have been complaining about my brakes and the grinding noises and unusual stopping patterns i have been experiencing since purchasing the vehicle. recently a chrysler warranty extension was issued to cover replacement of front rotors and pads. my vehicles front rotors and pads were changed and a 50.00 deductible was paid for this service. one month later my vehicle experienced heavy vibrations in the steering wheel and a grinding effect on the break pedal. upon returning to the dealer they replaced the front rotors and pads due to warping. i am concerned that this problem will resurface a month later. is this vehicle safe with the current breaking design and components. my questions are, why is it warping and wearing out so quickly and are there any other reports of faulty break design causing injury or accidents? i truly feel my family is life is at risk in this vehicle.

I did not drive my 2008 town & country van for 2 months as a result of my foot surgery, 2/17/10 to 4/19/10. on the morning of 4/19/10, as i attempted to move my vehicle out of my garage, the vehicle would not move. i further depressed the gas pedal and the vehicle appeared to break free and move. it seemed as if the wheels were frozen. as i drove to work, i noticed that when i applied the brakes, the braking was uneven and the brakes were chattering. the van also took longer to stop. when i got to work, i called my local chrysler dealer and advised them of the problem. they told me that it would not be covered under warranty. the van has 22,500 miles on it. i then took the van to a local repair shop. they showed me that the freezing of my wheels that morning was actually the rear pads rusting to the rotors. i saw the mark on the rotors where they had rusted. it then made the rear rotors uneven causing the chatter. they then showed me that the front pads were very low. they suggested that the rear rotors and pads be changed along with the front pads. the entire job came to $650. to me this is unsafe and no fair. i believe this should not happen to a car with less than 23,000 miles on it. it was obvious to me that this problem had to be corrected immediately. i was not going to pay the dealership to do it because i feared that they would replace the brakes with the same make that had failed.

Brakes are wearing extremely bad, called them the dealership first time i noticed this happened. they told me it is not there concern if it is over 12000 miles. i bought this used with 18000 miles and when it got to 20000 i had trouble. so i replaced the brakes myself since i have been a mechanic for 24 years.now they have worn so bad that they are in the rotors and i have the paper work from the dealership saying it is not safe to drive, notified chrysler and get the run around on this.they will not help me on this. i had to drive home with my kids in this car because they would not repair something that they have admitted that its there fault. bad brake system on the van.this is a safety item that must be looked into.

I took the vehicle to dealership service department on june 16th to diagnose a howling noise, which began a few months before as an occasional noise, and was now occurring almost continuously. i said i thought it was coming from the rear brakes. the noise occurred while driving, not while braking. they found nothing wrong with the brakes, and said the noise was due to the wear on the tires. i did not have the tires replaced at the time, and continued to drive it with the noise. during the next few months, i occasionally noticed a burning smell. also getting very poor mpg; 14.3. i applied and released the emergency brakes while parked, and the noise stopped for a few days. the noise eventually became less frequent, and was almost completely gone, when the brake indicator light came on. took it back to the dealer service shop on sept 19, 2010. this time, they found that the rear brakes pads were completely worn out; the brakes were

2008 chrysler town & country has an issues with brakes. front pads and rotors resurfaced at 20,000 miles. now 16,000 miles later, the front and back pads and rotors must be replaced. $700. brakes should last much longer which leads me to believe there is some sort of defect in their operation.

I own a 2008 chrysler town and country. 1) the front brakes needed to be replaced at 20394 miles on the odometer. 2) service center reports that due to a known issue across many of their chrysler t&c customers and a technical service bulletin from chrysler the front rotors must be replaced after the first brake job due them not being able to be machined down any thinner. 3) the front brakes scratch and squeak while braking at low speeds. service center reports that this is also a known chrysler issue and that there is a recall in the works to address the replacement of the whole front brake system. would like nhtsa to be informed of the poor brake performance on this model and to encourage chrysler to issue the recall soonest.

1998 town & country brake problem...at less than 12,000 noticeable squeaking of brakes and vibration of steering column when brakes applied...never had this happen so early in a car before...kept complaining...front pads and rotors replaced at approx 22,000 at my cost...at 30,000 squeaking and vibrations started again...at 38,500 rear brakes have seemed to literally burn out terrible metallic burning smell from rear driver tire area...tire is fine...rim extremely hot and terrible smell...speeds of approximately 35-55 mph and steering column vibrations are excessive...it is clear chrysler has a major problem...will the nhtsa wait until a crash, fire and/or death occurs before taking this seriously...every chrysler dealership service department knows there is an issue (almost seems like an inside joke), but hide behind chrysler corporate...please make chrysler fix this issue...most minivans on the road carry families and/or children...including mine!

Brake were squeaking at 16k miles and dealer recommended turning rotors. at 23k milles, owner noticed vehicle shaking when applying brakes. dealer inspection revealed warped rotors and estimated repair cost at $600. owner questioned dealer mechanic about lifespan and was told they are experiencing very short (1/3 of typical) lifespan on this particular model.

Within 10000 miles of use, my 2008 chrysler town and country started having brake problems. i was told that i needed to have pads and roters replaced. they were going to charge me full price but i did a little research online and found other complaints of the same problem so i called the service manager and complained. he said they see it allthe time and it's not right but they can't do anything about a recall. they are clearly aware of a brake problem and yet they aren't doing anything to resolve the problem, this needs to be addressed.

I have a chrysler town and country 2008 minivan. i have had brake and rotor problems beginning after one year. i had front brakes pads replaced and rotors resurfaced at 11,300 miles. i did not trust chrysler to do it. at 20,740 miles, i had to do replace front brakes and rotors again. at 22,000 miles, the car shook like a carnival ride when i applied brakes. rear rotors were warped and they were replaced along with the caliper slides. on the rear right, the slide pin bolt was damaged. within four months, at 24,700 miles, the rear brakes were replaced again. at 24,947, the ac hose was ruptured. five weeks later, at 26, 869 miles, i had all brakes and rotors replaced again. this time we put in ceramic brake pads and better quality rotors. the service man notified me that the front brake rotor was very overheated with blue scorch marks. he said a possible fire could have happened due to brake caliper or collapsed brake hose issue. we hate this van. it is two years old and has cost us a fortune. chrysler should reimburse us for all the brakes and rotors.

I had to have new brakes twice already. it seemed pretty odd that is was at 18,000 and then again exactly 18k later at 36,000 miles. after reading other complaints i realize i am not imagining this. these brakes were not made to last. for $27k that i paid for this new van with all kinds of bells and whistles, i didn't think the brakes would be the thing that continued to be a problem. *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 chrysler town & country. she stated that while she was driving 40 mph the vehicle would vibrate . the vehicle was taken to the dealer and contact was advised that the front brakes needed to be replaced, the repairs were done, however, the failure re-occurred in less than four months including the rear brakes. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer to be repaired for the brakes failure. the failure and current mileage were 33,000.

2008 chrysler town and country brakes having to be replaced before 20000 miles. when i took my vehicle in, the brakes were grinding and squealing. i was told that i got it to them in time to save the rotors. the repairs still cost in excess of $300. my van was bought to accomodate trips from fort walton beach to st petersburg for my son's doctor appointments and surgery. the van now has approx 33000 miles on it and i'm having to take it back to the shop for the brakes that are already starting to squeal again.

Bad breaks on 2008 chrystler town and country rotors warp and breaks ware out within 8000 miles i had to replace breaks 3 times and cut rotors twice and replaced them twice in 36000 miles of driving.i took it to the dealer to have it checked out and he told me the new vans are heaver than the old vans and they didnt increase the break size and this is causing them to over heat and warp the rotors and ware the break pads out even under normal driving. there are thousands of complaints and even break failures listed on line and to chrystler. i called chrystler and they said they new of the problem and they dont know if they are going the recall this model to fix this prob. you need to step in and hurry up the recall before somebody gets hurt or killed, not to mention it is very expensive to keep fixing this prob.
10/13/2009
Brakes and rotors continue to fail. replaced both brakes and rotors1/13/09 at 20,000 miles, replaced both brakes and rotors again 10/13/09 at 38,500 miles and now at 50,000 miles the rotors are going again causing a vibration. chrysler refuses to acknowledge a problem when even the dealer recognized it.

2008 chrysler town&county with less then 20,000 almost all highway driven miles needed brake pads and rotors replaced twice!

While driving 2008 town&country on expressway experienced vibration from rear wheel and began to smell something burning. at this time i immediately slowed the vehicle and took first available exit. checked rear tires, both ok,smelled strong burning odor coming from rear driver wheel. rim was extremely hot, could see smoke coming from rotor & brake caliper area. brake caliper seemed to be stuck. had happened on previous instance approx 2months before. on previous instance dealer cleaned brake said could not find anything. this instance dealer claimed corrosion between stainless steel clips and brake pad material caused brakes to seize. i personally asked dealer to inspect parts. stainless clips were shiny no sign of corrosion between dis-similar metals as dealer stated. dealer stated they have witness this happening very often and admitted component design as defective, however stated chrysler corporate offices advise not to cover under warranty as defect. dealership replaced brake pads, but i am sure this did not fix the root cause of the issue as there were no signs of corrosion as dealer stated which would cause sticking. also had front brakes wear out at 14k miles with rotors completely worn as well. dealer also admitted defective but stated not covered under warranty. i am mostly concerned with the seizing of the re brake as i feel i have now 2 times been given band-aid solutions by 2 different dealerships and true root cause not established. i am concern for the safety and welfare of my family and other with regards to the seizing brake incidents and feel that expressway speeds with such an event loss of control is possible which could result in a crash. also i have concern that this event could have potential to cause a fire as i have witnessed a burning smell and seen smoke in the area when the event had occurred. i would appreciate if this matter could be properly investigated as chrysler is not giving it the proper attention it deserves.

I bought a new 2008 chrysler a year ago. my brakes felt funny and squeaky from day one. as days went by, the brakes were squealing on a regular basis. at 21,000 miles i decided to make an appt. to have them checked.. before i could get in, i lost my front brakes while driving kids to school. the dealer paid for the parts but i had to pay for the labor. after research, it seems that the 2008 owners are complaining a lot and this has happened many times. does this have to kill someone before it gets made public? this needs to be investigated and taken care of immediately. before there is a death. from what i read, this will happen to me every 20,000 miles and that should not be at all.

Bought a 2008 town and country sept 2008 in june 2009 breaks started squeaking badly had chrysler check breaks they has 8,927 miles on them and was told they were fine but dust gets in and casues the squeaking.for months got worse and worse embarrissing everytime you stop everyone looks at u cause your squeling so loudly after looking up on internet and finding thousands of complaints about the 2008 break failure at low milage and having a freind who traded her car in and got a diff car because of such problems i decided to have chrysler check my breaks again april 23,2010 and now my break pads and rotors in front were bad and needed new replacement i have only 18,000 miles and this should not be happening .i have owned other dodge and chrysler minivans and have never had to replace breaks at such a low milage or deal with constant squeaking.

Had to replace the front brakes on 2008 chrylser minivan at only 25,000 miles. mechanic said rear brakes were also close to needing replacement. new brakes already squeeling after 5,000 miles and brakes seem to overheat quickly, making it more difficult to stop the van. i see on-line that there are hundreds of similar complaints on various chat groups (including edmunds). i think chrysler already has a service bulletin on this - tsb #05-006-08

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 chrysler town & country. while driving at approximately 40 mph, the contact heard a loud squeaking and grinding noise from the rear brakes. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the front and rear brakes needed to be replaced at the contacts expense. the contact called the manufacturer and filed a claim; she was awaiting a return call at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileages were approximately 44,000.

We purchased a brand new 2008 chrysler town & country mini van just before nov 25, 2008. a month ago at 17,000 we had to put on all new(front and back) brake pads and rotors! this car is not driven hard or funny, we do not ride our brakes. since chrysler does not cover brakes after 12,000 miles so we had them repaired at the oilworks, by a man we trust. the cost was $400, yesterday, 300 miles after the new brakes were installed we had to have new rotors installed again! we were not charged for the second rotors but were told that there was so much brake dust the pads were already wearing! i started looking online and found that there are literally thousands of people with the same complaint about abnormal brake wear on the 2008 chrysler town & country vans. we paid about $30,000 for this vehicle and we maintain it properly. i think chrysler should have to stand up for the lousy brakes they are installing on these cars. and come up with a brake product that works! *tr

Brake failure on 2008 chrysler town and country with only 25000 miles on my town and country the brakes started to make noise. when i took it to the repair shop my mechanic informed me that the front brakes and roters need to be replaced and were barely working. i've never own a vehicle were i had brake issue before 38,000 miles. after looking on line it is obivious this vehicle has a brake issue that the government should drop the hammer on chrylser for.
