My 2008 chrysler town & country minivan turned off while driving 65-70 mph on the highway. i was driving a consistent speed for minutes when it felt like my car was slowing down despite pushing the gas pedal. i looked at the instruments and the spedometer and rpm gauge both read zero. i coasted in heavy traffic until i could pull over to a safe shoulder on the highway. it was a scary experience that my car would not respond to pushing the gas pedal. also, it felt like the power brakes were not working while stopping. this is the third time this has happened in the last 3 months. on two of those occasions the transmission downshifted into 2nd gear for no known reason while driving highway speeds. in all cases i pulled over, turned the car off, took the key out and the vehicle worked fine for 2-4 weeks. i took the vehicle to the dealership and they could not find any problems with it. they said there were no error codes for the engine or transmission.

I have a 2008 chrysler town and country with a sliding door problem. i sporadically have a problem with the door (has happened to both sliding doors but especially the driver's side) closing part way and then opening. seems like some kind of sensor problem. it will also at times open of itself after it has been closed and i have walked away from it or gone into the house. have complained to the chrysler dealer. thay said is was a computer problem and said it was fixed. it is not. i don't have much faith in the dealer as i have read about many others who have experienced the same thing and with no permanent fix. this has happened multiple times, not just the date cited.

Car stalls at highway speed combined with electrical freak out. has happened four times since august of 09 with two additional partial incidents for a total of six tows to the dealer. car will completely lose power and cut off while driving. at the same time, everything in the electrical system goes haywire. horn blasts, wipers fly, washer fluid sprays, bells ring. one additional full electrical freak out while in the garage. additional instance of car refusing to come out of park or start one day home from the shop. this amounts to six times since august o 2009, with chrysler continually putting my family back into this vehicle which then stalls again on the highway at great risk to life and limb. *tr

Problem started in july 2009 with 20,630 miles. all warning lights on dash flash, wipers run, warning chime sounds. problem has persisted intermittently since then. local chrysler dealer has looked at it several times but problem cannot be duplicated. initially codes were stored in the obdii but not on most recent occurrences. problem seems related to outside temperature (hasn't occurred when temperature is below 30) and vehicle body movement (90% of occurrences were when turning left). problem was a nuisance but i believe yesterday's events escalated it to a potential safety issue. on february 20, mileage 26,500, temperature in 40s problem reappeared; only now it was constant. we were about 30 miles from home and had to drive home, at night, with dash warning lights constantly flashing, all instruments intermittently going to zero, windshield wipers intermittently running, and head lights and fog lights flashing. this repeated about every 10 seconds for the whole trip home. most of the trip was on a four lane divided highway. i was driving about 50 mph but can

At approx. 34,000 miles - while driving the engine would shut off (no power steering/no power brakes), horn would sound constantly, instrument panel would turn off, windshield wipers would turn on and sometimes the brakes would partially activate. it took 3 trips to dealer to resolve the problem. the dealer replaced the ignition keys we had and this seemed to resolve the problem. 35,000 miles - same symptoms as above. the only way to re-start the vehicle was to dis-connect the battery. after reconnecting the battery and restarting the engine the vehicle would operate properly for approximately 20 miles, then we had to repeat the process. eventually the dealer replaced a computer card which so far has rectified the problem. **important to note** the dealer stated they could not resolve the issue unless they could get the vehicle to repeat the problem. they reportedly could not get the vehicle to repeat the problem. they did not consider customer report of the problem to be sufficient. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chrysler town- and-country. all of the gauges on the instrument control panel were inoperative. also all of the warning lights would illuminate on the instrument control without warrant. also the vehicle would intermittently go into lymph mode, which would cause the vehicle to down-shift. the vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times, and the clock-spring, wiring-plug, and pvc valve were repaired. none of the repairs remedied the failure. finally the dealer insulated the wiring cable, which remedied the failure. the failure mileage was 22,000. the current mileage was 29,000. updated 2/22/10 *cn updated 06/01/10

We have a 2008 town and country. on the first cool rainy day of the fall, the vehicle's electrical system failed completely. the vehicle drove fine, but without lights, wipers, heat, radio, etc. the dealer stated that they could only fix while systems are down. this seems very dangerous and i feel unsafe in the vehicle. *tr

My 2008 chrysler town and country, which i used to love, just stopped working last night. drove it around all day and it was fine. went in to work, and when i came out that night to go home, the lights were all working, and the power doors and windows worked. however, the radio stopped working, the power windows no longer work, and the car will not start. it will not try to turn over. you can turn the key and nothing happens. the starter does not click, the motor doesn't do anything at all. we replaced the ignition/accessory fuse because ours had blown, and it still did not resolve the issue. since we can't put it in gear due to the security lockout, we have been unsuccessful in towing it to a repair shop. this is a major issue considering it is the only vehicle my family has, and now we have no way to get our kids to the doctor or to school. *tr

My 2008 chrysler town & country, which i love, does have a problem, seemingly electrical. when driving or parked my horn goes off full blast, the lights flash and windshield wiper fluid spurts out like a geyser and the wipers try to wipe yet stop at the 12 o'clock position. the back wiper has wiped, too. seems to happen right after driving and the car is parked, but it has happened while driving which was quite dangerous. *tr

Vehicle information: 2008 chrysler town and country limited minivan, owned since june, 2008. other than the chief complaint described below, this has been the best vehicle we have ever owned so far. however, ... the key fob for this vehicle can lead to serious safety and security issues. all the buttons on the fob are raised, making them too easily pushed. several times per month, while in the kitchen or bathroom with the fob in my pocket, i have leaned against a counter only to have the vehicles' engine start while in the garage. sometimes this has even happened when simply squatting down to pick something up. the same thing has happened when my wife has rummaged through her purse looking for something other than the fob. at other times when the fob is inadvertently bumped, 1 or more of the 3 automatic doors will open without us knowing it and stay open all night, or perhaps just the driver's door may be unknowingly unlocked all night long. the first of these is a safety issue because it could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning from having the vehicle running in the closed attached garage. the second of these is a security and safety issue. if we are away from home where the vehicle happens to be parked outside and this happens, it leaves our vehicle totally open to theft and vandalism, or poses a safety hazard for small children who may enter and operate the opened doors. the fobs for other vehicles we own (or are familiar with) have recessed buttons, making them much less likely to be accidentally pushed. chrysler needs to redesign the fob for this vehicle to recess the buttons and/or reprogram them such that it takes a specific sequence of multiple button presses to activate the function. or perhaps a mechanical slide switch could be added to disable the fob buttons while in one's pocket or purse. in any case, a redesign and recall is vital to mitigate these safety and security issues. *tr

 1. safety defect in the wireless ignition module (ignition) in 2008 town & country (touring model). vehicle will run but most electrical components will not work, including turn signals, windows, remote mirrors, lights, horn seat, door locks, window locks, clock, ac radio and wipers. the result of the defect includes inability to safely operate the vehicle once in motion. driver is not necessarily aware of the problem until they go to use the horn, lights, or turn signal. chrysler denied the existence of the problem until i made them come to my home during an episode. 2. defective fuel pump. vehicle idles extremely high and the entire vehicle vibrates violently. chrysler replaced the fuel pump yet the safety defect continues. chrysler denied rearing or feeling the vibration until a chrysler factory rep was called to thomasville in response to a state of georgia office of consumer affairs lemon law claim. chrysler replace the pump yet the safety defect continues. 3. severe grinding/scraping noise coming from the rear tenter of the vehicle. to-date, chrysler denies the noise and has not repaired the problem. i fee the issue os one of a possible fire hazard due to its proximity to the fuel system and unknown defect in the fuel pump. *tr

2008 chrysler town & country does not start. from thursday 01/22/2009 to monday 01/26/2009, this occurred on three occasions. it was verified the battery was holding a charge, the second time, the battery was replaced. we have owned this vehicle for 3 days and it is in the shop for the third time. *tr

My gig system, inclusive of radio, navigation, hands free (bluetooth) phone, rear back-up camera, and video system, continues to lock-up, re-boot itself, and generally creates unsafe driving conditions due to its inability to properly function. the system has been replaced twice, but the issues continue. there are several technical service bulletins regarding this problem. chrysler agreed to a collateral exchange of the vehicle in august 2008, but is now refusing to follow through (many other problems also exist with the vehicle like the power sliding doors don't properly shut and open by themselves, transmission issues, radiator issues, etc.) *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 chrysler town & country. while driving various speeds, all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. in addition, the headlights failed and the sliding door spontaneously opened. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer on several occasions and they replaced the entire wiring system, the totally integrated power module, and the win module. as of december 8, 2008, all of the remedies have been unsuccessful in repairing the failures. the failure mileage was 3,402 and current mileage was 8,700.

Keyless remote (peanut) would not open vehicle; needed to use 'emergency key' to access vehicle; was able to start vehicle with peanut key. changed battery, still does not function properly. within one week, second keyless remote had same problem. dealer repaired one peanut and ordered one new peanut. within 2 hours of repair remote has same problem, again. returned to dealership, got new remote that had been ordered, and another new remote was ordered. at this time we are waiting for second new remote. service manager has treated us very well and compensated us, at least partially, for well over 500 miles of trips to/from dealership. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 chrysler town & country. the first day the vehicle was driven the instrumental panel failed. thereafter, the instrumental panel works intermittently. on october 4, 2008, the power windows and doors failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer a total of three times for the failures. no parts were replaced. on october 21, 2008, while driving 55 mph, a vehicle suddenly merged into traffic without warning. the contact was unable to give warning because the horn failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer took a report and stated that they would call the dealer. the failure mileage was 82 and current mileage was 7,000.

2008 chrysler town & country touring van, bought in january of 2008. since i bought the van the radio had to be replaced twice, the dvd player and monitors had to be replace, and the back shock or strut leaked all the fluid out on my garage floor. the sliding doors both operate when they want, they will start to close and then just reopen, if you try to close they don't want to, the back hatch has done the same thing. the driver's window had to be fix twice because it wouldn't open or close and they told me it was the sound barrier that had fallen off of the door and it need to be reattached. the drivers seat has a broken track on it and all of this has been happening since 190 miles and on, now have 10089 miles on the van and still having problems with the sliding doors. *tr

I purchased a 2008 chrysler town and country in may had no problems with the vehicle until august 13th 2008 while driving down the road the vehicle just shut down and lost all power steering and brakes (all control of the electrical abilities). i had it towed to the dealer ship it would not stay running. they said that the computer needed to be reset and i was good. well i went to leave with my children and i had no fan for the a/c i took it back up to the mechanic and it just started working again, they said that sometimes it just has to register with the computer and i went to the store. went to leave and the a/c wasn't working again went to the dealer couldn't figure out what went wrong ordered a part then it magically started working again. so i took my children home and the next time we left to go to the store i was driving on the interstate going 70 mph and the car just shut down again losing all control of the car electrical abilities. it is a very dangerous occurrence and the dealership doesn't seem to be a bit concerned that my family could have been in a serious accident due to the car failures. *tr

We have had nothing but problems since we bought this vehicle in september 2007. first, the doors reopen by themselves - that took 8 trips to the service department before it was finally fixed in may 2008. another issue that has not been resolved is that the starter sticks when you start the vehicle. this is an occasional problem and difficult for the service department to duplicate. yesterday, june 8, the van completely lost power while i was driving. i lost all power steering, brakes, lights - everything! i have taken it to the dealer and they can't figure it out and daimlerchrysler has not been any help. in fact, when i called to inquire about a repurchase of the vehicle - i asked 4 times to speak to a supervisor and then the agent hung up on me when i insisted that i speak with a supervisor! i'm extremely worried about the safety of this vehicle. i will not allow my children to ride in this vehicle again. *tr
