I purchased the vehicle in may of 2009. after 3 weeks i noticed noise that sounded like the brakes were bad. i had the vehicle checked on 6/2009, 8/2009, and 12/2009 was told they were fine. and that it was the type of material that is used. 1/27/2010 was told i need new brakes and rotors at 25432 miles. called dealer/chrysler to find out about warrenty and was told that is not covered. i thought it had a bumper tp bumper warrenty till 36,000 miles. dealer lied to me. it is going to cost $650.00 to fix it. i have done research and found out this is a common problem with the chrysler products. i also can not get the tire-pressure monitoring system to turn off. i was told the tires are fine. cn

While driving at 65 mph, the drivers side rear brake calipers locked on, and made a loud noise. i exited the freeway, stopped the car and noticed the rear wheel was very hot and had a strong burning smell. the fenton, mi chrysler dealer immediately and accurately guessed that my car was a 2008 town & country minivan, and he even knew it affected the drivers side rear wheel. he had seen this many times with early 2008 t& c's. why has chrysler not yet issued a recall? this is a severe safety issue. the dealer fixed the problem at no charge, since, at 31,000 miles, my car is still under warranty. however, my concern is for other drivers of this vehicle. i believe there should be an investigation to determine if a recall would be appropriate. *tr

Brake replacement on my 2008 chrysler town and country.first incident bought used in 2009 with 18,000 miles and front brakes were replaced upon purchase. in jan 2010 agrinding noise was coming from left rear brakes. took into dealer for insp.and was told i needed new brakes and rotors at 26,000k. refused service because of the 400.00 charge spoke to service man.and he said they have done at least 40 to 50 brake jobs on the same vehicle in the last 6 months. they admitted problem but no fix or recall in site. looked on numerous forums and haves seen thousand of the same complaints. chrysler needs to recall these vehicles, because no noe should be replacing brakes on a 40,000 vehicle every 10 to 15,000 miles. *tr

I wish to file a complaint about the 2008 chrysler town and country vans. these vans were produced with sub standard brake pads and rotors that wear out very prematurely and risk causing serious injury. most people do not expect their vehicles brake pads and rotors to wear out at 18,000 miles and as such could ignore important signs that a problem is ahead. at some point a brake failure is going to occur and someone will get injured or killed due to loss of brakes. this is an issue that chrysler needs to issue a recall on immediately. there are literally thousands of blogs on the internet of people that have had to change their brake pads and rotors at very low miles on brand new vans. thank you! *tr gregg henricks

Leased 2008 chrysler town & country in march 2008. at 12,000 miles we experienced loss of braking, screeching, grinding and had dealer inspect brakes - was told pads were completely worn to metal and had to have brake pads replaced and rotors machined. at 21000 loss of braking again, grinding, pulling and dealer reports that rotors are below machine tolerance, pads are worn to metal and rotors have to be replaced. dealer reports this is normal for this van. clearly the brake materials/system are inadequate for this van and present a significant safety issue - as no driver has an expectation of brake wear and failure at 12,000 mile intervals. *tr

I own 2008 chrysler town & country van and last week when i took my van for regular oil change to the dealer(gurnee dodge), the technician told me that i have to replace my front brake pads and rotors as they are worn out at only 15,000 miles. i have never had to replace brake pads and rotors at such a low mileage on any vehicle i have owned. i have been driving for 20 years, have owned many vehicles and am not driving any differently than i have driven in the past. the dealer did not give me the vehicle as he said it is a safety issue and i was forced or tricked into changing my pads for $300.00 (parts and labor) and they said they could resurface the rotor instead of replacing it after seeing my frustration. later i came to know that there a tsb issued on 2008 chrysler and dodge vehicles tsb# 05-006-08 issued dec.8th. 2008 regarding the brake pads and rotors and i called the dealer and told him about this, he says he has never heard about this and not ready to honur this tsb. *tr

I have already filed a complaint with reference to the recurring brake problem on this vehicle (complaint #10300223). this week the brakes are again making noises and vibrating specially in the highway. this will be the third time we experience it, they already repaired, replaced and rebuilt the front and rear brakes twice. i am concern about the safety of my family. at this point, i want to recur to the california lemon law but chrysler is not helping me. i beg you help me with this issue please. i do all the required maintenance at the chrysler dealership. we also experience a steering fluid hose failure, not under warranty at the same time, cost $250. also we needed to replace the rubber cover for the parking brake so your foot don't slip, they said they don't sale that part, we had to buy the whole parking brake lever, another $200. this is an abuse to the consumer.  I leased a 2008 chrysler town & country in feb. 2008. today is march 26, 2010. i have roughly 26,000 miles on the vehicle and have taken it to several mechanic, including chrysler service shop at local dealership, and the consensus is that all rotors and brake pads must be replaced, none can be turned/machined/lathed, and nothing is covered under warranty, even though there is a 36,000, 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty still in effect. the rotors and brake pads put on this vehicle at assembly were sub-par. chrysler has received thousands of complaints regarding this problem from 2008 t&c owners and refuses to cover the rotor replacement or repair and rountinely puts the blame on the owner.

My 2008 chrysler town & country limited suddenly made a grinding noise at 12,200 miles. there was no break squealing/notification, and without warning the brakes were metal to metal. the van needed front brake pads and rotors replaced. i called the dealership and was told that these vehicles don't go very long without needing brakes and that the pads on this van do not squeal. i asked how i was supposed to know that i would need new brakes at such low mileage if they don't squeal, and the dealer said that i would have known if i had my tires rotated every 6k miles. i had him check my history and it was less than 6k since last rotation so he told me to complain to chrysler. i did, they opened a case and told me to take the van to the dealer. the dealer inspected the van and told me that it needed front brake pads and both rotors replaced and that because of the condition of the brakes, it was not safe for me to drive and they could not let me leave in that condition. they reported this back to the case manager at chrysler. after 4 days and numerous phone calls from both the service manager and myself, chrysler agreed to do a one-time goodwill repair for me, and i was to asked to pay $50.

Bought a 2008 chrysler town and country with 12,000 miles on it within 2 weeks of owning had to take back to dealer to have new pads on the front and rotors turned front and rear. at 16,000 miles front and rear pads and rear rotors were replaced and front rotors resurfaced again which put them below specs and at 20,000 miles front rotors were replaced due to dealer error in machining the rotors below specs and replaced front pads. brakes have a very loud squeal that is ear piercing and not normal but i was told by a 3rd dealer that this is a common issue that i just have to live with due to poor design on brakes of these vehicles. very unhappy with my purchase. i have only had the vehicle for 1 1/2 years and only put 9,000 miles on it so far and i am not interested in replacing brakes to line the pockets of a struggling vehicle manufacturer by purchasing their parts. aftermarket pads and rotors are more expensive than oem because the model is newer and because they sell so many.

My 2008 t&c minivan was in for service, but no known brake problem was present. the technician noted that the brake pads were 90 % worn. they recommended that they replace the pads & rotors. the mileage on the vehicle was 24,689. my issue is that seems very premature.
03/19/201017800
Leasing a 2008 chrysler town and country minivan. with 17800 miles heard a noise from rear of vehicle. took to chrysler dealer and said rear brakes were down to metal. had to have both rotors and pads replaced. they warrantied the rotors but paid for labor and pads. they also recommended that i replace front at my own cost about $400. i didn't have the fronts replaced. i have driven new and used cars and never have had to replace brakes at that low mileage. most of the time it would be the front brakes first then the rear. the service manager said that they have had alot of problems with this model. some customers have had to replace brakes at 10,000 miles. this something that nhtsa should look into.

I have a 2008 chrysler town and counry van. at about 23000 miles i have had the brakes and rotors replaced now less than one oil change the brakes are squeaky and grinding one more time and i can not pay for brakes and rotors at $500 or more each oil change it is time for a recall before there is injuties or death.
03/18/201030000
New front brake pads were needed at 15k miles. at 30k miles, rear pads were down to 10% and needed to be replaced. also at 30k miles, the front pads had 40% left, but the front rotors where damaged beyond repair. replaced front rotors and front/rear pads at an expense of $500. mechanic and chrysler customer service reps (two csrs so far) acknowledge this is a repeating and known issue. no recalls or resolution from chrysler to date.
03/15/2010
 1. took my 2008 chrysler town & country in to service squeaky brakes. the mechanic showed me that the pads were between 95 and 100% gone. the rotors were grooved beyond repair. he said they were having a lot of trouble with t&c's having faulty calipers, which in turn caused the brakes to wear out prematurely. 2. mechanic's write-up said verified customer complaint and found the rear brake calipers to be seized and not working properly. replaced calipers and everything is ok. the warranty only covers the calipers. my van has 30,000 miles when this came to our attention, and the brakes are worn well beyond a safe amount. the mechanic has seen mulitple identical problems. 3. calipers were replaced under warranty, new rotors and pads installed at a cost to the owner of $500.

Unacceptable brake wear. front pads needed replacing at 17,000 miles. i have owned 6 chrysler mini vans starting at 1985. i have always got 35k to 50k on front pads and more on the rears. irate and will take action if chrysler, daimler or fiat does not react.

We took our 2008 town & country in for a regular maintenance visit at the local chrysler dealership. we were told that the brakes all need to be replaced due to normal wear & tear and that with this particular model the brakes go every 12,000-20,000 miles, and that this will be a recurring problem for the life of the van. our van has less than 18,000 miles on it, and is a lease that we are thinking of turning in november. when we leased the brand new van, we felt confident that issues such as brakes going during the lease period would not be a concern (knowing that we only were able to use 31,500 total miles over the 3 yr lease.) i feel that based on the exorbitant amount of consumer complaints about this exact issue with this year & model of van that there should be a recall issued to owners of this van. there do not seem to be similar problems with the 2007 & 2009 models. it is unfair to 2008 buyers to have to

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chrysler town & country. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance and it was discovered that rocks had gotten in between the brake pads and rotors. as a result, the brake pads disintegrated and made deep grooves in the rotors. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the contact was awaiting to hear back from the manufacturer. the vin was not available at the time of the complaint and the failure mileage was unknown. the approximate current mileage was 23,423.

We took our van into the dealership for our routine oil change. they did a 27 point inspection and said everything looked great. yesterday the brakes started grinding so we took it in this morning... the rotors and brakes all have to replaced. this is an occurring problem with this van. the tie between the oil change and the brakes was less than the time we needed to go back for another oil change. the van is a chrysler town and country. our van has 37,000 miles on it. there is no reason that brakes should go out this early in a car! *tr

We have a 2008 chrysler town and country minivan. the brake pads are already shot. reading through edmonds.com shows this is an amazingly common problem. apparently there are 1000s upon 1000s of other owners similarly affected by these junk components. we literally have owned this vehicle for only 17 months and have to replace the brakes, on what is still a brand new car. *tr

A 2008 chrysler t&c touring (top of the line) has had premature brake wear. after 17,000 miles the brakes are down to less then 5 % of useful life, according to many internet posts this has been a recurring problem for many owners. the current repair is estimated to be around $400 us. the fear is that this failure will re-occur since the brakes seem to be undersized fro the vehicle weight and size. the chrysler dealer is unwilling to fix this under warranty. *tr

After taking my family on a 3,000 + mile trip to florida and back to michigan through the mountains, i took my 2008 chrysler town and country mini-van into meade dodge in grosse pointe, mi in for an oil change, tire rotation and warranty work to address issues that arose with the air conditioning and automatic sliding door during the trip. during the 23 point inspection that the dealership performs with the oil change, the service rep contacted me about a known frequent issue with pre-mature wear of the rotors and breaking pads on the town and country mini-vans. the service representative mentioned it being a known problem that they see frequently on these vehicles and that chrysler authorized the work being completed with a $100 consumer co-pay to have the work completed. my concern is that the public or owners of the vans were not notified. i took a long trip with my family in the vehicle that contained parts with a known defect that could have resulted in an accident if the breaking system failed. my van currently has approximately 21,000 miles on it. i want to make your department aware that this may be an issue affecting all new town and country vans sold. in discussing this incident with a co-worker, he mentioned a similar issue with his 1998 town and country van. *tr

Saturday, feb. 13th i noticed a small squeaking in my front brakes. sunday, feb 14th, there started a grinding noise that would come and go. took it to the shop this morning and was informed @ 28,000 miles my vehicle needed new rotors and brake pads. i had them replaced at cost but i did voice my displeasure, made a complaint with the company. i am not sure if the parts are available but i had the work done feb. 15, 2010 @ 9:00 am. problem is not with dealership but with the fact that after doing some research that this is a common problem and the car company is not willing to resolve this issue. there is a known tsb out there about the wear of the rotors (05-006-08). *tr

I bought a brand new 2008 chrysler town and country van in nov 2008. after about a year, dec 2009 my van started shaking badly during braking. it had 17,050 mi (mostly highway miles). i brought the van into a chrysler dealership for inspection. they told me the brakes were 100% shot and i needed a complete brake replacement (rotors, pads, flush, etc.) which cost me $650. i called chrysler complaining that brakes on a new vehicle should not wear out on a vehicle with less than 17k miles (especially the rear brakes). chrysler told me this was normal but would look into it. after a month i've not heard back. i've owned a 1992 and 1999 chrysler vans and never had these brake problems. the front brakes on my older vans lasted over 35k miles and the rear lasted over 50k miles. my neighbor owns a 2006 town & country and has had only 2 brake jobs in 80k miles. apparently he brake design did not change much from the 2007 model however the 2008 gained a lot of weight (new model) which contributed to the premature brake failure. minimally, chrysler should have notified me of the premature brake failures but never did. i've checked safety complaints on your odi website and saw 85 complaints for brakes on the 2008 t&c. i also checked complaints for earlier years and only saw only a very few brake complaints. i've checked the internet and found hundreds upon hundreds of complaints related to brake problems on the 08 t&c. so here's my summary: 1) i never expected the brakes to go at such low mileage so if i needed to do an emergency stop i probably would have had an accident. 2) apparently there was a design flaw but chrysler refuses to admit it 3) chrysler is silently reimbursing owners who file the loudest complaints. odi: you have all these brake complaints for the 08 t&c so how is it that toyota is getting bashed for their brakes but chrysler continues to produce their vans with defective brakes?????? *tr

I had to have the brakes and rotors changed on my t & c at 28,000 miles. within 24 hours of the initial brake noise, the brakes were making a grinding noise. when the mechanic looked the brake pads disintegrated in his hand. the rotors had a groove in them so they had to be replaced. i have now been told that brakes and rotors on this model will need to be changes every 15 to 20k miles. obviously this not an acceptable length on time for the pads must less the rotors to last. *cn *tr

I took my 2008 town and country to chrysler to get inspection at my dealer and come to find out the front brakes just past inspection. they were completly worn out at 27,000 miles and needs replacing. the service said it was normal. i told them the are all interatate miles and 2 trips from va to ark. i could see if i lived where there was stop and go traffic but i do not. i called chrysler and filed a complaint and they said they would contact my dealer and see if they could help me out financially to fix this problem. i have searched the internet and found out that people have even got less miles on theres. some as low as 11,000 miles. i believe they have a major braking problem with the 2008 model and it really needs some attention from you all to make them fix this problem. i am sure i am not the first to complain. *cn

Extreme brake wear and fade; complete falure and diagnostic failure codes at 35,588 miles.chrysler t&c brake concern: (brake system blog response 02/06/2010) tayers having been in the industry as well as being a fse (field service engineer) for the big 3, i am really upset!! believe it or not i returned from a 2005 bullet proof t&c only to buy a new 2008 loaded. expecting the same, if not improved experience, the brake design and metering is totally unacceptable. having changed the front brake pads at 23,000 miles only as a pm preventive maintenance move, at 35,388 the whole front system will now have to be replaced. the industry did go through major brake redesigns when asbestos was removed back in 1995 causing the entire industry to re-think and re-design brake systems. dvp (design verification & prove out) is required, someone blew it and should be fired! having owned and serviced over two hundred and fifty cars, i have never seen such a deplorable release to the general public. it's really a shame but daimler chrysler should step up to this issue or take the t&c out of production all together. just reading all these blogs will convince nhtsa eventually that they need to react. while you and i may find the t&c a great vehicle in the market segment, the brake system is not, nor should not have been released! whoever designed this system and says they tested and proved it out had to be smoking !@#$% this van had the ability to stand above any foreign competition and to have this put a black mark on what should be a best seller is a crime. *cn

I purchased a 2008 chrysler t&c in september of 2008. the van first had a problem with front breaks at 18k miles. i had them replaced at 23k miles, then had those replaced under warranty at 34k miles. i went back to the dealer for front brakes again at 39k miles and they turned down the rotors and replaced the pads. at the same time my rear brakes needed to be done, and i had previously been told i would be taken care of due to all these issues, but a new tech tried to hit me for a full cost, so i, with some help, did the job by myself. i'm now back to needing new front brakes, at 47k miles. i'll do the job myself, but the lack of concern from the dealer has been disappointing. i've been told previously from the dealer tech that chrysler knows about the problem of undersizing the brakes, but isn't doing anything about it. some might argue due to poor sales from 2009, but i believe it would mean a large recall and cost to the company, which is now owned by the government. i've owned 2 previous chrysler mini vans, a '1999 model, and 2005 model, the best of them was the '99 for service and repairs. unless something changes for chrysler this will be the last product i own from them. i'm sure you've seen similar complaints from other chrysler minivan owners. *cn

Premature failure on front brake pads and rotors. the front brake pads had to be replaced at 18,000 miles. then the front rotors had to be replaced at 23,000 miles. chrysler would not cover any of the repairs because the front brake pads were not replaced at a chrysler dealer with chrysler pads. chrysler customer service said they would have paid to replace the rotors and pads had the pads not been replaced with aftermarket pads. the reason they were replaced with aftermarket pads is because at 18,000 miles when the pads wore out, i took it to a chrysler dealer and they said they couldn't do anything about it and that it was normal wear. obviously it's not normal. chrysler should fix this problem by putting correct sized rotors on the vehicle. customer service is horrible. *tr

I own a 2008 chrysler town & country lx. my brake pads were replaced and rotors turned at 13,300 in oct.08. later started feeling vibration in steering wheel when applying brakes. this occurred in early oct.09 with around 17,000 miles on van. took it to dealer in jan 2010 because vibrations got so severe. was told front rotors are glazed and worn and need replacing and pads replaced. rear rotors need turning and pads replaced. the van has a little over 18,000 miles on it. to many problems with brakes for so few miles on van. *tr

Brake rotors and pads on 2008 chrysler town & country needed to be replaced at 23,324 miles at a cost of $735.20. dealer wouldn't even consider resurfacing the rotors because they have had so many problems with them warping. vehicle was purchased new on 11/10/07. brakes have always squeaked but they said that was normal for this vehicle. have since learned that many owners with this year of this vehicle are having similar (or worse) longevity out of their brakes. have owned 2 previous chrysler town & country's prior to this and didn't have to replace brakes until 50,000 + miles. *tr

Chrysler town and country 2008 is on its second replacement of brakes at 30,000 miles. the brakes have prematurely worn out with no apparent reason. van is inspected routinely every oil change at around 3000 miles and brakes are checked. however, this failure appears to be more than routine wear and tear and occurs suddenly. *cw

2008 chrysler town and country---brakes. front and rear brakes wear out under normal operations within 11,000 miles of operations. 1st set of pad and rotors were replaced at 11,000 miles and now the van has 22,000 miles and the brake squeaks are upon us again. took it in and brakes are almost ready 15% left on rear brakes pads. poor design and manufacture of 2008 brakes. chrysler should be made to upgrade the rotors and pads as this is a safety concern. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 chrysler town and country. she stated that the rear brakes were grinding very loud while driving approximately 35 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised her that the rear brakes needed to be replaced at her expense. no repairs were made to the vehicle. there were no recalls. the failure mileage and current mileages were under 21,500.

The brakes on my 2008 chrysler town and country required replacement (brakes and rotors) with 22,000 miles on the vehicle. the brakes were checked in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, but were worn to the point they were unsafe three months later. this is a common problem with the 2008 chryslers town and country's and should be fixed because there have been accidents caused by the brake failures and this is due to the poor quality and negligence of chrysler. *tr

On 9/16/09, with 19849 miles,i took my 2008 chrysler town and country to the dealer complaining about my van squeaking while driving and that the squeaking would stop when i applied the brakes. i was told by the dealer they could not duplicate the problem and they did nothing. i took it back in on 10/9/09 with the same issue, only this time there was a very strong odor coming from the rear passenger tire. again, i was told there was nothing wrong with the brakes and the brakes and rotors were wearing evenly and the calipers are working properly. on 1/14/10 i was driving and the noise was so loud, i drove it right to the dealer who had a mechanic ride with me. he confirmed that it was the brakes and thought it was the calipers locking up. once he looked at the brakes he told me that i needed new pads and rotors at 24000 miles!! i asked about the calipers and they did say they would grease those for me at no charge to see if it would help, but they again stated to correct the problem i would need new pads and rotors. i have never owned a vehicle that needed new rear pads and rotors on a vehicle with less than 50,000 miles! i called chrysler and put in a complaint and was just told today that there was nothing they could do, the brakes are a wear and tear item and it was out of warranty. i am waiting for a call back from a supervisor in the next day to take my complaint higher. i am very worried about the safety of driving this vehicle and am afraid the brakes will eventually go out. *tr

2008 chrysler town and country brakes system. just passed 25000 and required all four brakes and pads to be replaced. we were told that we were really lucky to have even made it that far on the initial set. this vehicle was bought brand new and when we took it in for burning smell and squeaks on the brakes this issue was discovered and was not covered under warranty. pleading with chrysler corp and the dealership resulted in nothing other than an acknowledgement that this is a known issue and had we not driven so gently they should have failed 10k miles earlier. my only hope is to file a complaint and have these brake pads recalled as improper for the vehicle. the real issue is that the replacement pads will last upwards of 40k miles. *tr

Chrysler town and country - worn rotors and bad brakes - just like everyone else. cost me $350 to fix - only 19k miles on vehicle. grinding noise started about five days ago. one completely trashed rotor, one severely grooved, had back brakes 'cleaned' - shouldn't have to replace brakes on a 1.5 year old vehicle with so few miles on it. tahoe doesn't need them at 50k! *tr

I own a chrysler town & country 2008, after 20,800 miles the front brake system had to be replaced, including discs and pads, and the rear had to be resurfaced. i complain to the dealership, bakersfield chrysler. they said it was wear and tear, but i argued that there was something wrong if they had to be replaced so fast for no reason. the agreed after much arguing to cover half the cost of the total repairs ($800). then, 2 months later , 8/17/09, i start hearing a noise coming from the bottom of the car around where the exhaust is located. i take it to the dealership and they tell me that the exhaust is hanging due to structural failure of the main bracket holding the exhaust. a couple more days in the shop at the dealer till the vehicle is repaired. i expressed my concern about such a new car with hardly any miles on it and having so many problems, the dealership blew me off. now, around 10/9/09 and 30000 miles, i hear the brakes starting to make a little noise again, they tell me they need to replace the front pads and discs and resurface or replace the rear brakes again. the person that help us at bakersfield chrysler told my wife that the reason for the brakes failing again is because we don't know how to drive. i paid for the brakes to be fixed so i didn't have to wait and waste more time on chryslers poor excuses. i have perform every single maintenance procedure recommended by chrysler at the chrysler dealership but i feel the car has a manufacturing problem with the brakes. i am extremely concern with the situation since this is my family vehicle and my two babies and my wife drive it everywhere. the only feedback we have received from chrysler is that we don't know how to drive the car, this is frustrating! in the mean time, i don't know who else to recur to, i have place several complaints with chrysler customer relations and nobody has had the courtesy to call me back. please help me! *tr

Our 2008 chrysler town & country minivan needed all new brakes and rotors and has been driven under a year and half (with normal wear and tear - not excessive). evidently this is a known issue as i've found in talking with another t&c owner that bought the same minivan at about the same time we did (fall 2009). he bought the extended warranty for $2000 and was alerted to this defect by the dealer (tsb because of his extended warranty) and the repair was made for free and now he knows to check the brakes every 12-20 thousand miles. unfortunately without purchasing the $2000 extended warranty other consumers will not be aware of the short lived brakes and rotors and may not bother going into the dealer to get their brakes replaced every 20,000 miles (who would think that you would need to replace your brakes and rotors this frequently!). from the research i've done thus far, i should expect to continue to have this problem for the lifetime of the vehicle with no recourse other than to sell the vehicle to another unsuspecting consumer or to continue to pay >$500/ 1-2 years to replace the brakes in this vehicle. i would greatly appreciate a recall on this known defect or at the very least a notification to t&c owners to this issue for their own personal safety (and that of their family and everyone else out on the road). generally i've only replaced my brakes after 50k miles on other vehicles and never would have suspected there was an issue with so few miles on the car. please notify other consumers of this product before this results in serious injury (i'm sure there has already been huge monetary losses from the consumers of this vehicle). *tr

My 2008 town and country had to replace brake pads and rotors due to heavy noise and wear out at 12,750 miles. my mechanic suggested the caliper is defective and it causes the problem. but the dealer won't agree. so they replaced just the pads and rotor. now at 28,000 miles, that is another 15000 miles, the same problem arises. the rotors and pads are fully gone and it has a huge noise when braking with no brake in effect. *tr

I had my town and country for just over 20,000 miles and i need to replace the rear brakes pads on my vacation. lucky i am a mechanic and could do it myself. i called the dealer down in florida and asked if there was any problems with that model they said no. i asked for price on pads and if they had them. i called the parts store and they had the front but not he backs that would be a day. the dealer told me 4 to 5 days for the back and fronts. i asked the price and they where less then 1/2 the price. i ordered and did the brake job. i had to call a dealer to find out how to compress the calibers they did not know. i remember that volkswagen had calibers like this and is turned in. i did the brakes and needed to do them 3 months later and rotors this time. i feel there is a factory problem here. *tr

Purchased a 2008 chrysler town and country touring brand new in may 2008. within the first 12,000 miles we've had multiple problems with this van. as far as the safety problems specifically, the brake system has been a nightmare. the parking brake cable snapped in two and became dangerous when i couldn't park on a hill without it. this was fixed under warranty through the dealership. the next safety related issue was that the brakes on the van started to squeal and were quickly metal on metal. i brought the van into our local tire place to have a regular brake job done and was told that the rotors and pads were completely shot and cost over $300 to have replaced. the manager said i was one of 12 other customers in the last few months with 2008 dodge/chrysler minivans having this problem. he said that he spoke with someone from chrysler to see about having this repair covered under warranty and said that the person at chrysler that he spoke with casually mentioned that of course this happened, they used cheap parts on these vans. i still have the original rotors and pads if anyone needs them for investigation. an entire chunk of metal had chipped off of one rotor!! the tech. at the repair shop said they were the cheapest made things they've seen on a new vehicle. no vehicle driven under normal, carpooling circumstances should ever have rotors and pads wear out at 12,000 miles. i would like to see this looked into as to why this is happening with this year van through this make. thanks. *tr

July 2009 i took the car in for an oil change and check up before leaving town for vacation. brakes were squeaking so i asked to have those checked as well. i didn't expect anything much to come of the brakes since the car only had about 12,000 miles on it at the time. they said i had to have the brakes done which i did. brakes started squeaking the next day while on the trip and the car would shake when braking (not subtly but enough to spill drinks and to feel like we were riding a bucking bronco). called the dealership who said it was safe to drive until we returned to town and could take it back to the dealership. i took the car back in immediately when we returned and had the problem repaired. that lasted a few days and the brakes started to squeak and then grind. car has been in again and still no relief from the problem. this is the 4th chrysler town and country i have had and the first time i have had any problems. i am going back to the dealership again which will make it at least 5 times in as many months. i am concerned that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. *tr

My wife purchased a 2008 chrysler town and country in may 2008.this van was in need of new front rotors and brakes at 13000 miles ( which was out of warranty and we had to pay for) the repair was completed by the chrysler dealership where the van was purchased. the an now has 19000 miles and is in need of another front brake job. it is also pulsating from the rear which means that the rotors and brakes are gone on the rear as well. in 30 years of owning vehicles i have never seen brakes and rotors that will be worn out at such low mileage. i have a friend and a sister in law who are experiencing similar problems with their 2008 t&c's. something must be done. *tr

I have had major brake problems with my town and country 2008 van. i first need new rotors and pads at 11,000. chrysler covered that under warranty. then again at about 23,000 miles my pads needed to be replaced and rotors refinished. the second job i had done at midas, they had to replace the front brake pads and resurface the rotors two more times (in the last two months) because they keep glazing. bottom line in conversations that i have had, it sounds like the rotors they put on this vehicle are not large enough to handle the weight of the van. i am concerned about this issue and it is creating much anxiety in me. i am always listening to the brakes and wonder how soon i am going to have to take them to be repaired again. i also worry that this can be a dangerous issue. i found forums on-line where thousands of people are having the same issue. *tr

This complaint involves a 2008 chrysler town and country mini van. the vehicle was returned to the dealer to inspect brake system. mileage was 27, 904. i was informed that the front disc pads and rotors needed replacement and the rear brakes were in good shape. this concerned me since i have never had to replace this early on a new vehicle. my previous vehicle was a 2001 town and country, which was traded for the 2008. the 2001 had over 95,000 miles and i was told after inspection of the brakes that there was approximately 25% of the pads left. i also own a 1995 dodge ram pickup and had the pads replaced at 75,000 miles and still had pads left. i had the pads replaced on the 2008. less than 1,000 miles later i had to replace the rear pads and rotors after being told they were ok. something is wrong with this scenerio. this condition could have lead to a serious accident since the dealership gave me sense of assurance that the brake system was in good condition and i should have been able to gotten more mileage on the rear pads than a 1,000 miles. i feel that there may be a design flaw in the brake system since my driving habits have not changed in the last 50 years. *tr

Chrysler town & country with 21,000 miles only presents excessive wear of brake pads. symptoms of the problem were noise, vibration and lately difficulty in braking: car did not stop with brake pedal full down. dealer service reports states that front brake pads have only 5% life remaining and pads and rotors had to be replaced for a total cost of $335 at owner expense. chrysler has issued a service bulletin no. 05-006-08 on 12.09.2008 stating that front brake pads may exhibit excessive noise, squeal/shudder/vibration and/or lining life complaints. but has not issued a recall even if this is a major safety issue. chrysler customer service did not refund the expense for pads and rotors replacement stating that brakes are a wear component and wear out in different ways. an internet search shows that this is a major problem of this vehicle and many customers have filed complaints: http://www.edmunds.com/chrysler/townandcountry/2008/consumerreview.html , http://www.fixya.com/cars/t2122925-early_wear_front_brakes_rotors_2008_town , etc. according to many customers, pads and rotors have to be replaced in this van every 15,000 miles to ensure the safety of the occupants. *tr

 1. brakes/rotors on 2008 chrysler town & country need to be replaced at 12,000 miles; 2. had to replace front brakes again at 20,000 miles and rear at 27,000 which is unheard of (i have been driving a dozen different vehicles since 1983). 3. chrysler covered the first job since the vehicle had under 12,000 miles on it. i have since spent over $600 and based on this frequency, will be spending again soon. keep in mind this is a $42,000 vehicle - this should not be happening. i called chrysler (both the dealer and the main corporate office) and they informed me that they will not cover this item. *tr

2008 town & country chrysler mini-van needed complete front brake replacement including rotors. shop repairing brakes said they had seen this on several other vans of the same year and with similar low mileage. i owned a toyota highlander for over 3 years and never needed to do any brake work. why would the brakes need to be completely replaced in little over a year of use and with less than 24k miles? *tr

After only 3000 miles i took it to the dealership (jan09) because i noticed that the front left rotor had abnormal grooves on it- i know a smooth rotor, and that one was not! right front rotor was smooth. dealership returned vehicle saying all conditions normal- they didn't tell me about this huge problem- i had to find out about it myself! later, at 16,000 miles brakes squeaked under all braking conditions. later, at 21,000 miles of normal city & highway driving & not harsh braking, i read about these multiple complaints and went to my local service station- yup, replace front pads & rotors for $350. rotors were 1.075 and 1.079 (min spec 1.040); pads were 90% worn. i then called chrysler customer service rep and senior resolution team- no luck. i went to a different dealership- no luck. luckily for me based on my own intuition and research, i found out about the problem before my wife & kids were harmed by unsafe brakes. 21k miles for new brakes- you've got to be kidding me! i currently hold the failed parts. pls help me & others. *tr

Brakes on 2008 chrysler town and country prematurely worn at 23,000 miles. brakes were inspected by an authorized dealer at 19,200 miles during a routine tire rotation and no notification of worn brake pads was given. at approximately 22,000 miles we began to hear a light grinding in the front right wheel during braking. we took the vehicle into an authorized dealer at 23,600 miles for inspection of the grinding, which had gotten significantly worse. i was notified that the brakes were down to metal on metal and the rotors were too far gone to resurface. authorized dealer replaced the rotors, brake pads, and flushed and replaced the brake fluid at the owner's expense of $575. this appears to be premature for pads to go to metal on metal at only 23,600 miles with no prior notification. there was no warning of worn brake pads such as a wear sensor or indicator which causes a squealing in the brakes on most vehicles. first indication that the pads were worn was when the metal on metal sound was heard. *tr

7/31/09 - 21,897 vehicle miles - brakes began squeaking - dealer rep. recommended we wash any brake dust out of the wheels to see if that resolved the problem. 8/5/09 - brought the vehicle back to the dealer as this did not resolve the problem. it was squeaking and making a crunching sound when braking, like metal to metal. believe it was unsafe to drive - had the vehicle towed to the dealer. vehicle had 22,009 miles. we were told the front brake pads were at 26.97 and minimum specs are 26.4. the dealer replaced the front brake pads and front rotors were turned. we were told the rotors did not need replacing at that time. 8/25/09 - we were still experiencing a pulsation when braking. took the vehicle to our personal mechanic. they replaced and resurfaced the front rotors that were warped. the brakes felt better but we still noticed an unusual shuddering and heard a deep creaking sound at the tail end while braking. our personal mechanic advised the rear pads needed replacing and the rear rotors had 45% wear. fearing we would have to replace the rear rotors in the near future, we opted to save labor charges later and have both the rear pads and rotors replaced. the brakes are performing wonderfully now and are very smooth. we feel they are safe. we are concerned though that we will have to replace pads and rotors every 20,000 miles and believe this is unsafe and unreasonable. we have owned many chrysler & dodge vehicles in the past and specifically bought this based on our past positive experiences with these vehicles. i am the principal driver of the vehicle and have never had this problem with any vehicles i have owned in the past. my driving conditions and style have not changed either. *tr

The front brakes on my 2008 chrysler town and country needs to be replaced....the vehicle only has 26000 miles on it, at a cost of several hundred dollars. after researching blogs, etc., i have discovered that many other owners have experienced the same problem (including the dodge caravans) and i believe it's a serious issue that requires chrysler to cover the costs we (the consumers) have incurred because of this defect. that should be enough to raise a red flag, but i know we are not the only consumers with this problem. chrysler/dodge has even acknowledged the issue with tsb #05-006-08 issued 12-08-2009. but it is not cover by the warranty. *tr

I purchased my 2008 t & c 4 months ago and it has 14,000 and it now has only 17,000 miles. i took it to the dealer today because it was making noises that sounded like there was something wrong with the brakes and also for the dvd player, and the outlet that wasn't working the back. they told me the brake pads and rotors would have to be replaced. i would have to fork out $400. this is obviously an ongoing problem that chrysler needs to own up to and fix. they already got me for the cost of the van and now it seems every 5-10,000 they will be getting me for $400 because i am going to have to replace the brakes and rotors. *tr

New 2008 chrysler town and country in april 2008. october 2009, with 18,600 miles, noise was coming from front end when brakes applied. dealer had to replace front pads and rotors. pads wore to metal without any warnings and gouged the rotor. rear brakes were worn to 35% and were replaced also. dealer blamed it on a heavier van and our type of driving and to expect to have to do brake work again in 15,000 to 20,000 miles. we have had many cars/vans, have not changed our type of driving and never replaced brakes with this low mileage. this is a safety issue and should be investigated and recalled. *tr

Faulty brakes on my 2008 chrysler town & country limited. my van has 49,897 miles on it and it needs a 5th set of front pads. the 4th set of pads were replaced on 7-9-09 when the vehicle had 39,525 miles on it. at that time the front pads, front rotors, rear pads and rear rotors had to be replaced. three months later on 10-10-09 i was informed that the front pads needed to be replaced again with 49,897 miles on the vehicle. each time the brakes were oem parts replaced by the dealer. this is a very dangerous situation because the brakes are not making any noises, but could give out at any moment causing a very serious accident. there is obviously something wrong with the braking system and i am requesting a recall from chrysler. *tr

At just over 16k miles i had to get the front brake pads and disc brakes replaced as they had worn down to metal on metal. the screeching noise had started about 3 months before this - assumed it was dirt from a new england winter. never would have thought it was the brakes wearing down to nothing at around 12 - 13k miles. this is unheard of for brake life. the line i was given by the dealer, was that is normal based on how mom's drive the cars around town all the time.

I have a 2008 chrysler town and county. i purchased this in dec 2008. at 15k in feb 2009 i had to have the front brake pads replaced. i was informed then that my rear brakes had approx 30% wear left. it is now oct 2009 and i have to replace my rear brake pads i have 26k miles on my vehicle. my last vehicle was also a town and country and i had to replace the front bakes at 20k. previously i owned a oldsmobile silhouette i turned this vehicle in with 60k and never had to replace my brakes. chrysler needs to held accountable for this brake problem. i have seen countless blogs concerning this issue. i turn my car in march 2010, i will not be replacing this with a chrysler vehicle. *tr

Problem : heard squealing noise at 13,000 miles. undiagnosed at the dealer. raised issue again at dealer at 16,500km miles. diagnosis was completely worn (and inadequate) rear brakes. dealer tech agreed this is a flaw and safety issue, and quite common among newly designed 2008 town & country and should be a recall event. remedy : parts replaced at owners expense. complaint : inadequate brakes for a vehicle this size and weight, premature failure at 11-15k miles without warning is unacceptable and dangerous. *tr

We lease a 2008 chrysler town and country. at around 15,000 miles the front brake pads needed replaced and i was told that i must be a heavy braker. at 22,000 miles we had our brake pads replaced and rotors resurfaced to the tune of $334.63. less than one month later, we were getting the now familiar grinding sound upon braking so i took it back to our mechanic who said that he should have just replaced the rotors in the first place so he replaced the brake pads and rotors and only charged us for the rotors and ate the cost of the pads and labor. a week and a half later i had to return the car to the mechanic for a horrible squealing whenever i braked. he fixed it and charged me nothing. now 4 months and 5,000 miles later, my brakes are again grinding horribly like they were in may (22,000 mi) and the brakes and possibly rotors need replaced again. i have owned dodge caravans, a 2005 town and country and now this one and have never had brake problems like this so i don't think that my braking habits are to blame. also, after one year, the ignition switch started to stick in the wrong position upon starting the car and would leave me with no electronic power in the car. no lights, radio, locks, dash display, etc. which is very dangerous because if i try to correct it while driving and the car turns off, i am moving with no power steering or brakes. *tr

Excessive brake wear and e-brake caliper sticking. i have a 2008 chrysler town and country with 28,000 miles on it. so far i have had to replace the brake pads twice and have the rotors turned once. the abs also pulses at times when i am braking at normal levels and it should not be kicking in. i am also getting substantially lower fuel mileage than advertised for both highway and city driving and suspect that the braking system is keeping some braking pressure on at all times. i have also had extremely hot brakes at times so much so that they have nearly caught fire. fortunately i have not had any fires to date from the brakes. *tr

Regarding the 2008 chrysler town & country van and the sub standard rotors the vehicle comes with. the car is only 1 1/2 years old and the rotors have to be replaced. three months ago the dealer turned and resurfaced the rotors and replaced the pads ($270), the cost would have been more but they priced the quote incorrectly and then honored it. this week i took the car back to the dealer because of vibration and they are advising the rotors must be replaced costing more than $700 to repair. i have read multiple complaints from other owners with the same issue with this vehicle. i have been driving for more than 20 years and have never had an issue like this with any of my other vehicles and find the rotors installed in the 2008 chrysler town & country unacceptable. these cars are expensive and they parts used to make it should be of quality. the dealerships should extend the warranty on the brake rotors or recall them and put acceptable ones on them. *tr

Excessive front brake wear. the front brakes are worn out, both the pads and rotors have failed at 17,000 miles. in contacting chrysler, i am told that this is a know issue but that they are not willing to do anything to fix this problem until a recall is mandated. i have had this vehicle for 16 months and do what i call normal driving around town and highway. i have hauled a trailer once, for 80 miles, other than nothing out of the ordinary. the brakes are in my opinion not properly sized for the car and could cause serious damage as most people would not expect brake failure after such a short time period. *tr

Brake rotors warped -- 2008 chrysler town and country limited. with less than 6,000 miles on the vehicle, when applying normal pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the peddle would pulsate and the vehicle would shimmy slightly. i surmised and it was confirmed that the rotors were out of round (warping). the dealer replaced the rear rotors and resurfaced the front rotors. with such limited mileage on the vehicle, i would suspect the rotors are inadequate for this vehicle. the dealer indicated the replacement of the rear rotors was with not only new rotors but with an upgraded part. i'm still concerned that the front rotors may be inadequate. generally, when you feel a shimmy in the break peddle and steering wheel it occurs due to an issue in the front of the vehicle. i'm going to continue to monitor the status of this situation and if it occurs again, will request replacement of the front rotors. have there been other reports of this nature with 2008 chrysler made minivans. i have the 4 liter engine with 6 speed auto transmission. *tr

We have had nothing but problems since we bought this vehicle in september 2007. first, the doors reopen by themselves - that took 8 trips to the service department before it was finally fixed in may 2008. another issue that has not been resolved is that the starter sticks when you start the vehicle. this is an occasional problem and difficult for the service department to duplicate. yesterday, june 8, the van completely lost power while i was driving. i lost all power steering, brakes, lights - everything! i have taken it to the dealer and they can't figure it out and daimlerchrysler has not been any help. in fact, when i called to inquire about a repurchase of the vehicle - i asked 4 times to speak to a supervisor and then the agent hung up on me when i insisted that i speak with a supervisor! i'm extremely worried about the safety of this vehicle. i will not allow my children to ride in this vehicle again. *tr
