When coming to a stop or idling in traffic the rpms drop low and the truck shuts off. in the beginning it happened twice spaced about a month apart after the second time i took it to get looked at found nothing wrong. didnt happen for a while. now its happening often its been to several places nobody can find anything,no check engine light ,hooked up to the computer nothin. called dodge directly no answers, went online found tons of complaints like mine all spending thousands replacing various parts with still no solution. my question are there any complaints in your database like mine and what's my course of action...as the last time it happened i stopped to make a turn just as i started in the intersection it shutoff..do i have to get in an accident before dodge will help! *tr

My 2004 dodge ram 1500 4x4, 5.7 liter hemi stalled while driving. the problem occured within 3 minutes of filling gas tank and while slowing to make a left turn. since then vehicle has stalled within several minutes of each fill-up, (once while still at the pump) a total of 4 times. car has restarted almost immediately and problem only occurs after removing and replacing gas cap.

Check engine light is on. strong smell of gas when vehicle is shut off. vehicle stalls at slow speeds. can't tell the engine quit as the rpms bottom out and engine dies. very dangerous for driving. no control after the engine stops. this happened twice today. first time was in traffic in a town at a stop light. couldn't restart the engine for awhile and couldn't get the truck out of traffic. second time slowed to turn around in a driveway entrance and backed up when i came to a stop to shift to d the engine stalled and i didn't know it. my truck was at an angle crossing 2 lanes of taffic. luckily, i was able to get it restarted. i googled the problem and it seems to be very common and dangerous with limited success on finding a repair solution.

2004 dodge ram 1500 slt with hemi 5.7 engine - 61k miles. until now i have been very happy with the truck. it is a pleasure truck and has never hauled anything. i have done eveything to maintain the truck perfectly. i had the gsr valve replaced as the check engine light came on. ever since then the truck just quits and stalls and has left me in very dangerous condition. i am afraid to drive the truck now. when it stalls it will not start or even turn over and has to be towed - twice now in a week. after some time the truck starts and the mechanics have been unable to find anything wrong. this truck is dangerous and i am afraid to drive on any interstate. what can i do?? *tr

My 2004 dodge ram stalls. on four different occasions. the last two almost killing my girlfriend and me. after the first three, i took it to a mechanic and he replaced the cam and crank sensor. on the way home, it did it again. three of the four times it stalled while turning left and slowing down. this puts you in front of oncoming traffic. the last time i was on alert and still nearly died. there are no lights or warnings. *tr

I have had to replace the water pump 5x in 2 years. the water pump was replaced, the fan and the fan clutch was replaced once during this time. no one seems to know why this keeps happening. *tr

My 2004 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.7 liter hemi stalls inconsistently. this has happened several times over the last 3 years, on the highway and when slowing down at stop lights. the truck has always started right back up until yesterday. i was in traffic, going about 30 mph when it shut down. i tried repeatedly to start the truck back up; it finally did after several tries. i learned that issue is synonymous with 2004 rams. we have already replaced the throttle body and egr valve. this is obviously a safety issue. we pull a horse trailer on regular bases and can not take the chance of someone hitting us due to stalling, let alone losing control of the vehicle. what an outrage that dodge doesn't take responsibility for this!! i love my truck, but now i am shopping for a new truck, not dodge, with a heavy heart. *tr

2004 dodge ram. stalled 3 separate times before dealer could find diagnostic reading to repair in 2005. the last time my truck died on an on ramp in traffic and the dealer had to tow it. dealer replaced computer. august 2008 6:50am left to take children to school in extremely bad rainy weather. we were several miles up the road from our home and as i slowed to make a right hand turn i heard a loud whining noise and my truck turned off. i could not turn the steering wheel, had no lights , windshield wipers, brakes, nothing. the gear shift would not move to put back in park to try to restart. we had to sit in the road for several minutes before i could put it in park and it started. it was like the key was not in the ignition. the power steering wasn't out, the steering wheel was locked as were the brakes. i called the local dodge dealer at 7:30am and was told to bring the truck in. i took my truck in at 8:30 am and as of 5:11 pm they can not find a code on the trucks computer as before in 2005. this is the 4th time on this same truck that it has shut down while driving and the second time they have had to fix it. i am not sure what they are going to do at this time because they said they can't find a code on the computer and are suggesting i pick it back up and continue to drive it until it does it again. this is a very dangerous situation that should be addressed before someone is injured or killed. *tr

Driving the vehicle and notice performance issues, strange sounds and stalling, oil pressure gauge fell out, and was concerned for my safety. pulled over and had to drive real slow with flashers to get home. inspectors have told me that the engine had a cooling failure that caused the oil to sludge. *nm

My 2004 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with 5.7 hemi motor stalls when approahing a stop. does not happen every time, but fairly regular. it always comes as a suprise, rpms drop to @ 400, engine vibrates and stops. it always starts right up. it does it when hot or cold, but more when cold. many times the rpms just drop, engine vibrates a little and stays running. dealer had truck 3 times, first two they found no problem, even that i video taped the conditions while driving, 3rd time they admit there is a problem, but do not know how to fix it. today, it is in the dealership for the 4th time for the same thing. i explained it might have to do with the transmission not down shifting right on stopping, as shortly after i had a transmission sending unit replaced, right after purchase, it started acting this way

This happen to me three times the first time december 2003 two months after i got the vehicle. the second time it happened june 2004, and the third time it happened september 2004. the first time it happened. i was driving down the highway in 4 wheel drive high about 30 to 35 mph when the truck stalled. i had no indication that it stalled except for loss of power steering. the second time this happened i was driving down a gravel road about 35 to 40mph. i was coming up on a curve in the road, and the vehicle stalled again. again i lost power steering, and came close to going into the ditch with my 1 year old boy. the third time this happened i was stopped at a stop light when the vehicle stalled. i have taken the vehicle in twice for this, and the dealership said the computer in the engine probrably just reset itself, and there is nothing they can do about it. i have written a letter to dodge, and sent it in with their survey after the last incident, and haven't heard back.

2004 dodge 1500 quad cab hemi - stalled while taking an exit ramp from the highway. had it for two week with 524 miles on it. i see that this was a complaint before from someone, but my dealer claims they never heard of this. however they can't look at it for several days - i told them i thought this was a safety issue, but didn't seem to matter. not a good situation trying to control a truck with no power steeering. *la

I have a 2004 dodge 1500. on 18 feb 10 for no apparent reason truck started to overheat. i have not taken it to a dealer yet but i understand this is a problem that is starting to develop with this vehicle and currently dodge does not know what the issue is. several items have been replaced on these vehicles but so far nothing has helped. *tr

Recently purchased brand new, 2004 dodge ram 1500 quad cab w/5.7 hemi. awesome truck though quality is a issue. defective coolant surge tank or possible other defective parts leading to excessive build up of pressure. end result, coolant over flow making a mess and low coolant. have taken to authorized dealer twice within a month. dodge service tested and confirm however, monitoring and asked for truck to be return if coolant leak is agian present. problem is surge tank and cap have abundant residue coolant present. my answer, dugh! the system is a failure. no replacement parts were offered, dealer states coolant over flow was due to possible overfill. funny thing is at 3k maintenance, coolant problem was addressed and service department stated on receipt overfilled and corrected. well then 500 miles later, coolant still leaks and service department saying nothings wrong. i guess dodge truck are required to leak then. ?*ak

While stopped in a turn lane, the engine shut down for no apparent reason. this occurring three days after serviced by the dealer for the second time for the same problem. have since spoken to the dealer again and have been told that chrysler is looking into the problem. so far, this a problem that has only manifested itself in town at low speeds. i am very concerned that it may occur on the freeway, which will leave me with no power steering or power brakes.*jb

Consumer was pulling out from a parking space and noticed that the rpms were going up, and the engine was making a funny noise. when he got to the road and approached the stop light the same thing happened. then, vehicle slowed down and shut down. consumer just picked the brand new vehicle up from the dealer the day before. he had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and was told that the filter in the transmission was coming apart. which meant that none of the fluid was going to the transmission. this blew out the engine.*ak the dealer replaced the transmission. *tc

When the driver moved across two lanes to initiate a left turn the truck lost all power. the consumer pushed down on the accelerator but noting happened until the driver pushed the pedal all the way to the floor. when the pedal was pushed all the way to the floor the truck lurched forward quickly at a very high rpm. the problem has never occurred again, even after the dealer examined the vehicle. the cruise control would not disengage until the vehicle's speed exceeded 8 mph over the set speed. *ak

2004 dodge truck extra cab 1500 has problems of stalling while driving.*mr the dealer flashed the pcm but that did not keep the vehicle from stalling. while driving up a slight grade the consumer heard a clunking noise from the transmission when it went into overdrive. the dealer test drove the vehicle but could not duplicate the problem. *nm
