On 3/11/13, i reported to dodge case # 23187710 that when driving on wet / damp roads the car will stall out for no reason. this has happend to me while stopped at a light, slowing down going through a toll or even while turning in an intersection. i have felt it to start to stall while driving at 65 and have hit the gas to stop the problem. i phoned dodge who told me ... sorry there are no recalls. i then phoned my local dodge service department who immediately told me that yes they have had this problem in the past, the suggested is a sensor on the throttle or throttle body. the cost for repair is around $750. i happened to see there was another complaint on your site regarding this. because i feel as though this is a very serious danger hazard, i filed a complaint with the department of transportation # 130311-000050 who suggested i contact you. i think this is a very large concern and something that needs to be addressed immediately. i will be paying the money to get my vehicle fixed out of concern for my own and others safety. i drive the interstate everyday to work 65 - 75 mph and have to drive either in the right or left lane in case my car stalls. i was lucky that when my call stalled while trying to pull away from a red light i was not rear ended. i am hopeful you will see the sense of urgency and push dodge to do a recall. i do not think this should be the consumers espense.

This first occured going down the interstate at 50mph the etcs light started blinking and all throttle was gone..giving the gas was doing nothing an unfortunately i was in a construction area an had no where to pull off of the interstate so had blocked traffic to turn car of an restart to limp off the nxt exit..changed the electronic throttle control sensor fixed the issue for about 500 miles an the sensor was $600 only for it to fail again an after research i see a lot of the same car is having this same problem. this needs to be a recall ! it is very dangerous on an interstate with no throttle to get your car to safety

My 2008 dodge avenger has an electronic throttle control light flashing anytime i go over about 2000 rpm. at that point the car begins to stall and i have to put the car in park and restart. i am posting this because i have seen numerous other posts on dodge forums that explain the same problem. there seems to be a known defect with the throttle control. *tr

I have had a reoccuring problem with the throttle light coming on after experiencing chugging and deceleration with my car. it was only at low speeds but has now gone on when i am on the freeway. i have had the vehicle come close to losing power at high speeds but i was lucky enough to have light traffic and a clear shoulder. my rpms have been incredibly high during this time and have to start the car again. this fixes it temporarily and starts again a few minutes later. i have seen this issue on other vehicles and needs to be fixed before someone gets killed. i am a police officer and i have defensively driving training but they don't train you on when a part on your car that should be recalled fails while traveling 65 on the freeway. how many complaints do they need to fix this problem? you will recall a stupid tire sensor but not the throttle body that can cause death? fix the problem please. i don't want to die or injured because no one is listening about an obvious problem. *tr

I have had nothing but problems with my car. when i first purchased it 2 months later my shifter got stuck i was stranded at work. after that i have had various problems from the alternator, battery, and compressor going out various times and it is not even over 100,000 miles. i looked up there were recalls on the car back in 07 and 08. the dealership says that they fixed it but i feel like it was not fixed and i had the shifter problem right when i purchased that is the only thing they said they can fix. *tr

Driving my car fine one minute, get in it the next day and there's an lighting bolt on my dash. the car won't go over 20mph. the light blinks than i shut car off and restart it and the light just stays on. couple weeks later the light goes away. then weeks later after a month of no light, light comes back on. i take it to dealer and they say the codes for the throttle showed up. they cleaned it out,put a new filter on and sent me on my way. driving for a good week with no light, here comes light again. sometimes it resets it self after i restart car but now the light stays on. 20mph. chrysler needs to recall this car. too many people with the same car, same problem and they just ignore. *tr

While pulling out from a stoplight and accelerating up a grade, my 2008 dodge avenger made a loud popping noise and began to sputter and lose power. the car would not go over 10 mph and a lighting bolt symbol appeared on my dash display. i drifted the car to the side of the road and could not move. after letting it sit and turning the car off and on, the lighting bolt image on my dash disappeared and the car could be driven. since then, the car sporadically stutters for no apparent reason and i then pull off the gas fearing a repeat of the above incident. *tr

I was driving 25 mph when the electronic throttle control indicator light came on. the light remained lit while i was driving. the speed of my car decreased and i was not able to accelerate when pushing the gas pedal. my car seemed as if it was coasting. i turned my car around to park it. when i pressed the brakes my car seemed like it wanted to shut off. my car began jerking. i did not make it even 1 mile from my home before this took place.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the voltage indicator began to illuminate and the engine would not accelerate. the contact was able to maneuver the vehicle into a turning lane with less traffic. the vehicle was then towed to the dealer. the dealer diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that they were unable to find a failure. the vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic and the alternator was replaced. two weeks later, the failure recurred and the contact remained on the side of the highway for three hours, at which time she was able to successfully start the vehicle. a week later, the failure recurred again. in each instance the vehicle would start and have power, but would not accelerate. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 91,631 and the current mileage was 93,046.

I have been having problems with my dodge avenger for about 40,000 miles now and have had it into multiple shops without the problem being solved. the electronic throttle control light comes on and off at random times either causing my car to shut off while im going down the road, cause power lag with no acceleration about 45 mph or shifting into differant gears, or the engine light comes on along with the etc light and the car will idle very high then very low and repeat the process making the car unable to drive. the vehicle has shut off on me while going down interstate and highways and i've almost been hit several times because of it. i see lots of postings with the same issue but there are no recalls on this issue which dealerships do not know how to fix. i've been told to change the battery, the tpms was messing up, the throttle valve was sticking, improper fuel delivery, and that the car wasnt getting enough air. none of these once fixed were the cause of the car freaking out and now im forced to drive day to day with my son in the car hoping it works well enough that an accident wont happen. i've seen enough complaints about the electronic throttle control that there should have been a recall a long time ago to fix this yet it's been 4 years and still nothing is being done to help make peoples vehicles safe agian that they paid for.

I have been receiving electronic throttle control errors for about a year now (lightning bolt between inverted parenthesis). it happens sporadically but seems to occur more frequently. the last episode occurred today on my morning commute to work - 04/04/2012, approximately 0725. the error code will flash and it becomes more difficult to accelerate. when i take my foot off of the gas pedal to decelerate, the car will 'jerk'. so far, i have been fortunate enough to continue driving the vehicle until i can find a place to pull over. usually, i can turn the car off then back on and the error code disappears. the car will drive normally. i am now experiencing these issues 3-4 times per week. this issue is chronicled on the internet with details in different forums. this seems to be an on-going frequent issue that dodge is aware of. from what i ahev researched, the dea;ership mechanics seem to be at a loss on how to repair and suggest different repairs that don't work...unless that is their aim. in a time that people are finacially struggling, these manufacturers need to repair the issues they know about.

I noticed a problem with my car on march 29, 2012 as i attempted to get into my car to run an errand. my car would not start...cranked up but wouldn't start. never, ever, had that problem so i didn't know what to do since it was about 7:30pm. i left well enough alone until the next morning. attempted to start car at that point and my car started. i drove over to a goodyear facility to see if they could find out the problem and i was informed there was nothing they could do about whatever problem i had the previous night because my car was starting up. okay, fine. well, on april 1, 2012, i was driving on a busy road going about 45mph and all of a sudden my car just stopped on me while driving. as i tried to turn, my steering wheel was like it was stuck and wouldn't maneuver. at that point, i was able to pull to the side since i was close to a sidewalk. i turned my ignition off and waited a few min before trying to start my car again. tried 2 times, but didn't start up. the third time i tried, my car started up and i was able to turn around to head back home before this problem happen again. i took my car back in to goodyear the next morning after explaining about my car stopping in the middle of driving. they ran a scan and found nothing. after that, i went online and saw on motortrend.com that a recall was issued on april 2, 2008 which was the same month i purchased my car. i called chrysler to inquire about the recall because i never received a letter. was told to bring it into a dodge dealer, which i did this afternoon on 4/3/12, and they found nothing after running a diagnostic test. something is wrong with my car, that's for sure. because a car just doesn't kill in the middle of driving for no reason. a recall is needed for this problem because it appears a lot of other owners are having this same problem. this is a very dangerous situation.

I purchased this vehicle from a used car lot a year and a half ago. from the very first day i purchased the car, i had problems which are recoreded with the place of purchase. i was told i could not get my money back. the only remedy offered was for the actual car dealership who sold me the vehicle would fix the problem. the first problem ive had started with the head lights, it then went onto my entire electrical system that gives milage, warnings ect went out. soon after that the alarm system, horn ,and door locking system. there after a pin in which holds the gear in place went out and would not operate. the next thing that went out was the entire air conditioning and heating system. on or around april 12 there was a what looked like a spark near the air conditioning panal. when i removed the panel, there was evidence that there was a small spark or fire that actually melted a switch on the cooling and heating elements. it has yet to work since then. today the 11/29/11 my car completely stalled while i was turning into a very dangerous intersection. this car is a total death trap waiting to happen. unfortunately i am a single mother of 3 children with very little options finacially to do otherwise. i have attempted several times to schedule recalls to be fixed by the dodge dealer and they have not been helpful at all. there is no rental car offered and the estimated time of repair is not feasable. i hope this information will help.

We were driving on the highway about 65 mph when our electric throttle control indicator light along with our engine light came on. when this happened we did not have a spedometer or rpm gauge. all of the lights that are related to the shifter (park, neautral, drive) also all lit up. the car did continue to drive but had less power. we pulled over and turned the car off. we tried to start it again but it would not start at first. the power locks and truck release would not work either. after about 5 minutes we tried it again and everything worked. the check engine light did stay on but the car drove fine. the engine light is still currently on.

I have a 2008 dodge avenger that burst into flames all of a sudden when i was headed home from work during rush hour on a city street doing between 25-30 miles an hour. there was no warning when a man started shouting for me to get out of the car. in another half an hour my kids would have been in the car. this is the third time i've heard of this happening with this chrysler made car, yet the insurance is giving me the run-a-round. i'm sure with instructions from chrysler. i need them to pay up, i need to be able to get to work and take my children to day care. i could have been killed cause there is obviously a defect in the engine or fuel system.

My 2008 dodge avenger had been sitting in front of my house since the beginning of may 2011. on the 24th of june 2011 i decided to take it in to the dodge dealers to have it fixed. while driving on the highway the car suddenly started to make a loud roaring noise and jerk. i drove into an exit in order to get off the highway. while trying to turn the steering wheel to enter the yard of a station i noticed that there was no response. the car kept sliding towards the curb. i had to quickly pull up the handbrakes to stop the car from running into the curb and beyond. then it stalled blocking the entrance to the gas station. before totally stopping, all the lights and indicators on the dash board were going on and off like crazy this is the second time that i have had to tow the car in to the dodge people. the first time, in 2010, the shift stick would not budge from park to drive and the car just wouldn

Vehicle stalling since date of purchase february 2009. brought into dealership with complaint and they replaced the fuel pump. problem continued with the addition of a gas smell after initial start of vehicle. have brought the car in for service to dealership and they could not find the problem. brought the vehicle in for other complaints and i again told the service dept that the car continued to have the same issue with the stalling and gas odor. the service dept tool my car for a test drive while i was still there and since they could not replicate the problem my vehicle was not serviced for the issue nor was it fixed. i called to have the vehicle looked at once again in february 2011 and was told i would be called by the new person in charge of my car and i did not receive a call. i did speak with someone giving them the details of the fas smell and the stall issue. after 2 weeks of no return call i called the service dept and was told my warranty had just expired and would not be covered. when i spoke to the service dept in february i asked about serveral recalls that had to do with the electrical wiring of the same model and year as my vehicle and was told it did not include my vin # but there are numerous complaints of electrical issue of these vehicle and the service dept cannot seem to find the electrical problems until the car completely breaks down. on may 5, 2011 my car stalled again and the dealership says it is an electrical problem with the car. my car would stall several times a week while sitting at a light and the gas smell would occur everytime i start the car. the dealership does not know how to fix/find the problem until the car no longer runs. the electrical issue burned out the battery and could have caused a serious accident.

I have a 2008 dodge avenger rt. in the beginning of december, when i would start up my car all of the warning lights would come on and then the car would cut off. i would try again in 30mins or so and it would start and stay running, but the engine light would stay on and read no bus. eventually the light went off and the car ran fine. the same problem happened again except this time the car wouldn't come back on. i had aaa come out to charge and check the battery, and they said that my battery was dead, but it was a good battery. something in my electrical system was causing it to drain. i took my car to thompson chrysler and told them that it wasn't the battery. they claimed to fix the problem days later, but within an hour of picking it up i had the same problem, warning lights except this time the car was shaking violently. i took the car to them 4 times with today being the 5th. they replaced my battery 2 times as if that was the problem and ripped out my alarm system the last time. i had to pay for this, but the same problem is not fixed. corporate was of no help in the situation. i am seeking legal counsel because this morning i was in the middle of the road when the car shut off. i'm just relieved that the baby wasn't in the car.

I have a leaky trunky in my 2008 dodge avenger. my window also stopped working on my drivers side. after searing the internet i discovered many others with this same issue. if an official recall notice was made this would prevent vehicle owners from spending thousands of dollars on repairs that should be made by the dealer. the trunk has been leaky since i bought the card and dodge keeps teelling me nothing it wrong. it also makes my third break light go out i've been issued 3 police warnings for this. i hope i never get a ticket. also, my window is now stuck down and if it rains i will have damage. as for the trunk its also moldy and makes me sick when i getinto the car.

A/c is blowing out hot air, i was told by the dealership that i needed to get a replacement computer component. i told them at the time that my car has only 70000+ plus miles and that should not be replaced plus i had older cars and people with older cars never once had to get the ac fix and they have over 150000 to 200000 miles on thier car. mean while back several years ago, my car caught on fire do to hay falling in the road, therefore all wiring/equipment under the hood got replaced. currently my driver side seat belt does not stay fasten all the time.

The car will automatically shut down in the middle of the road and the shifter then the car will lock up, and once you put the car into park it will not shift from park. this happened to me and i was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection. after much frustration and trying to shift the car out of park. the lever that was holding the car in park slipped out of place and allowed me to shift the car into neutral and me and the officer helping me were able to push the car to the nearest gas station. this occurs often and has occurred 3 times since that time which was the first. to replace the problem is to reprogram the computer. this cost $270.00. there has been many cases that i have read about this happening. it also seems to happen to everybody around 40,000 to 50,000 miles on the car. *tr

I have a dodge avenger 2008 which a complete lemon. i have taken my car to several dodge dealerships (~15x) after speaking the chrysler headquarters and all have refused to fix the car stating that there was not a problem with it. i currently have an extended contract 7yrs/70k warranty which i picked at the time of purchase and it is still valid, however no dodge dealer will serve my car. eventually i have had to pay out of pocket to fix the electrical problem and replace at least one catalytic converter because, dodge dealers would not fix the problem when it was at the 24k mile mark. so, please tell me which federal agency have the authority to holds the independent car dealerships and chrysler accountable to fix problems. your recall notices work only 25% of the time. do you all have a scorecard of actual vehicles being repaired in accordance to your notices because there is a big disconnect with companies such as chrysler. i have spent almost $4,000 in needed repairs (travel from ny to nj daily for work) because chrysler's independent companies refused to repair the vehicle and chrysler has told me that they have no control over the dealerships. so, which federal agency officiates control over unreliable car companies such as chrysler. how much collateral damages is required before chrysler and its management (and engineers) become accountable to consumers and the federal regulatory standards. as for me, $4,000 is a small cost to pay to avoid an accident and leave a child an orphan because the fuel tank was defective and caused at accident. what cost are you willing to pay? *tr

I purchased a 2008 dodge avenger last april, brand new. i have taken care of the vehicle, the lighting on the dash is always coming on, so i am constantly taking it to the shop and they run the diagnostics and they tell me nothing is ever wrong. i had to take the it in for a warranty problem on top of all of that. then this last time i thought it was making a funny noise with the brakes. i took it in and they said i have a leak in my transmission and oil tank, of course the only thing on the dash lighting this time says tire problem. it is such an unsafe vehicle, i ran out of gas in the middle of making a turn in an intersection and my gas light wasn't on and the gage showed i had quarter of a tank. the car has caused me nothing but problems. then to top it off, i got in my car to go home from work and it wouldn't move out of gear and i had to call a tow truck. i have only had the car a year, if i wanted problems with a car i wouldn't have bought it brand new. *tr

Bought 2008 avenger in september 2007. in michigan cold weather the windows won't roll down. and when its wet the car stalls and comes to a complete stop, this has happened about 4 to 5 times and the tire light goes on even after checking and filling the tires to right pressure that has happened about 3 times. took it to the dealer and he said he fixed both the problems, waiting to see if it persists but driving the car is scary because i never know when it is going to stall and stop on me. *tr

The car when on highway tachometer fluctuates and when coming to a stop almost stalls. also today after the defroster/air conditioner was turned off when i came to a stop at a red light the car almost stalled then proceeded to counteract the stall by revving up to at least 2000 rpm's causing me to jump forward into the intersection. luckily no cars were in front of me because it would have caused a crash. *tr

This is a recurring issue with many 2008 dodge avenger sxt 2.7l. as the vehicle is stopping it stalls, or the computer in an attempt to stop a stall increases the rpms causing the car to speed up uncontrollably. i have since learned to slip the car into neutral so that it no longer jumps forward. i recommend a recall to solve this problem. *tr

Car purchased 2/08 with 8999 miles. immediately there was a starting problem. using factory remote starting the car would stall after a few seconds. once it flooded and wouldn't restart without stepping on the accelerator pedal (a no no for this type of injection system). looked at by dealer three times with no problem found and no fix made. the fourth time we took it in for service they found(now approx. 21000 miles) it but still no code visible from computer. service writer said we needed a fuel injection service so i said do it. he said it wasn't covered by chrysler so i said don't do it. he was vehement about it needing to be done and pushed hard for me to pay and i maintained that if it needed to be done, it needed to be done from the day we bought it and now they want me to pay for what should be a warranty repair. note that it started fine with the key but not with the remote start. same fuel injectors are used for both starting protocols and for engine to run so which injector could be bad? didn't make sense and therefore was rejected by me. the fourth time they reset the computer which chrysler covered under warranty and paid the dealer 24minutes to fix. no more problem with the car starting with either the key or the remote starter button. no injector problems now or before the resetting of the computer. *tr

I was traveling in my '08 dodge avenger sxt w/my son making a left hand turn around a corner & vehicle just turned off by itself w/o warning. went head on into oncoming traffic & went up onto a curb. put vehicle into park & restarted it. the vehicle has to date shut off on us 6 x's. the even when incident happened was we were just driving the car-going home. the vehicle gives no signs, beeps or warnings that it is going to shut off. it just shuts off by itself. it has occurred a total of 6x's so far. i took the vehicle-which is still under original factory warranty-to the dodge dealership & notified the dealership where vehicle was purchased of the issues w/the vehicle. there are also recalls that were not fixed & electrical issues as well as transmission, brake & tires issues that are still as of this date not repaired because they could not duplicate the problem. the dealership had the vehicle for 13 days before telling me the computer needed to be flashed. they did that & car still stalls out when stopped @ stop signs or lights. they told me they do not know why it turned off on me & why the steering locked up & brakes locked up when it turned off. so therefore they cannot tell me that they know why the car has died & that the issue is even fixed! they will not say that it will not turn off on us again. i have researched online several sites (popular mechanics, etc.) & see that i am not the only one this has happened to. i bought this car to be able to have a safe, reliable & dependable car for me & my son. my son has cerebral palsy so i have to drive in this car. i feel that its 50/50 when we get in this car & that everytime could be the time when we're going 50 on the interstate in a turn & the car turns off & we hopefully don't die! i feel that this car has a major defect or flaw in its design somewhere. i love the car but i am scared to drive it now. i do not want me or my son to die in this car! its only a matter of time before someone does. thank you. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. sporadically, while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. it typically takes several minutes to restart the vehicle. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 08v152000 (electrical system:wiring) and immediately took the vehicle to the dealer for repair. one month after the repair, the failure resurfaced. he called the manufacturer and is waiting for a response. the failure mileage was 17,000 and current mileage was 38,000.

A few days after i purchased the vehicle i began hearing a tapping noise in the engine sounds like knocking (bad gas or rod). dealer claims to not hear anything. took to another dealer which heard the noise, kept the car to inspect and repair stating they thought they knew what the problem was. car wasn't fixed i complained because the second dealer admitted to speaking with the first dealer thus the car wasn't fixed. they lied to me and told me it was a federally regulated emissions system that made the car sound that way. dealer #1 offered to set up an appointment with a chrysler rep. then he called back and stated that the rep wouldn't be local for 4-6 weeks. the rep called me and basically stated that it sounded like i just didn't like the car. the dealer would not take the car back, and were rude about repairs. i never saw the rep. now the car is making a rubbing noise in the steering column and the power steering pump sounds like it is going out. i have done everything to try to replace the car but the dealers have put me off so long without repairs that i am stuck with the car. less than 6 months after i owned the car i began seeing commercials for the car only the price was more than $5,000 less than what i was charged. therefore, the bank wants an enormous amount of money in order to put me in another vehicle. the ignition rolls over several times before starting. sometimes i have to attempt starting the vehicle three times. the cd player does not work, it over heats and will burn your hand if you touch the digital display. i have had friends in the community to call me and tell me that my car sounded awful when they saw me in town. additionally i am paying 430 a month for the payment when the girl across the road is having the same problems with her new avenger yet she only pays 279 a month at 11% interest. with all of the problems and the miserable ride this car offers, i can easily compare it to a bicycle a used bicycle at best. *tr

We own a 2008 dodge avenger. we received a recall letter (h07)concerning an electrical wiring problem that could cause the car to cut off without notice. we called the local dealership when we received the letter but they didn't have any information about it and said they would notify us when they received information. we never got a call from them. we experienced the car cutting off on several occasions but never when it was a dangerous situation. on saturday, may 3rd, 2008 at 7pm in the evening my son was driving the car and was braking to stop at an intersection and the car cut off causing him to lose all power steering and power brakes. he attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the car in front of him but was unable to totally miss the car. he hit the car in front of him because the car was too hard to steer and brake due to loss of power. after the accident we contacted dodge and our local dealership only to be told that our car is not involved in the recall. some 2008 avengers are involved but according to our vin they tell us our car is not involved. this could have been a very serious accident. i don't know why our car is not involved in the recall because we have experienced the problems that the recall notated. we would like the recall to be reevaluated and our car and possibly other 2008 avengers be included in the recall. once the body work is fixed on the car, we will take it to our local dealership and have them check out the problem. we are afraid to drive the car until we know the problem has been fixed because next time the accident could result in injury or death. *tr

On 3 separate occasions while driving my 2008 dodge avenger sxt in light rain, the vehicle lost all electrical power. each time the car stalled the wipers were on. we took the vehicle to the dodge dealer and were told there is no problem. a day after having the car looked at it stalled again, almost causing a rear end collision. car was taken back to dealer immediately, they kept the car for 1 1/2 days and told us the solenoid valve is getting raw gasoline in it due to us topping of the gas tank when we fill it up (never have done that). they replaced the valve, but the car still stumbles as if it were going to stall. dodge told us there are no recalls or other complaints out there like ours, however doing my own online research i found a family in florida on carcomplaints.com with the same problems! this is a big concern to my husband and i as our 3 month old son was in the car when the power loss has occurred. *tr
