Defect SummaryChrysler is recalling certain model year 2010 chrysler sebring; dodge avenger and nitro; jeep liberty, commander and grand cherokee; and model year 2009-2010 dodge ram truck. these vehicles may have been built with an improperly formed or missing brake booster input rod retaining clip.
Consequence SummaryThis could result in brake failure without warning which could cause a crash.
Corrective SummaryChrysler will replace the brake booster input rod retaining clip free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during february 2010. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 Tl- the contact owns a 2010 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while depressing the brake, the vehicle began to shake, the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and the brakes proceeded to fail. a local mechanic was unable diagnose the failure. the dealer denied any assistance with the failure. the manufacturer made the contact aware of nhtsa campaign id number: 10v009000 (service brakes, hydraulic), but the vin was not apart of the recall. the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 23,700. nw

 Tl-the contact owns a 2010 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 50-55 mph the contact stated the vehicle hesitated then stalled. he stated he restarted the vehicle and the vehicle started as normal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure on december 16, 2010. he stated the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the failure continued and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the contact stated on the third visit to the dealer the throttle was replaced. the failure continued. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer had not been contacted. the contact stated there was a problem with the vehicle brakes and the dealer did something to them but he was not sure of what they did. he stated when driving in reverse the brakes were very noisy. he also stated when the the brakes on engaged they go to the floor then pop back up. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 13,000 and the current mileage was 17,386. vwb
