Defect SummaryChrysler is recalling certain model year 2011dodge journey, jeep wrangler, chrysler 200, chrysler 200 convertible, dodge avenger, dodge nitro, jeep liberty, dodge caliber, jeep compass, jeep patriot, dodge grand caravan and chrysler town & country vehicles. some of these vehicles may have been built with a missing or incorrectly installed steering column pivot rivet.
Consequence SummaryA missing or incorrectly installed rivet could compromise the ability of the steering column to support the occupant loads in the event of a frontal crash, decreasing the effectiveness of the frontal impact safety system. as a result, the condition may increase the potential for injury in a frontal crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect for rivet presence and alignment and repair the steering column pivot as required, free of charge. the safety recall began on july 4, 2011. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 While making a slow speed right turn (into our driveway) the steering locked/ car stalled. the vehicle is a one week old 2011 dodge caliber with 516 mis on it. the same thing occurred about three days ago when making a slow right hand turn a a different location. normal function returned after turning off and restarting the car each time.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2011 dodge caliber. the contact stated while driving 20 mph the steering wheel locked causing the vehicle to stall. all power to the vehicle shut down. there was a traction control warning light illuminating before the failure. the vehicle was turn off and on and the steering resets itself. the steering failure has occurred three times. the vehicle was driven to the dealer who replace the computer, which lasted for only a week. the failure happened again and the vehicle was back at the dealer who stated they have to replace the computer again. the manufacturer was contacted and stated he may qualify for a buy back program but the failure has to occur four times. the vehicle was being repaired under the warranty. the failure mileage was 1,600...mw
