While closing the rear liftgate of our 1993 dodge caravan, my wife heard a loud pop and the liftgate became unusually heavy. upon examining the problem, i found that the bolt holding the liftgate strut to the body of the car was sheared. in addition, i found damage to the plastic molding on the interior of the door frame and to the ceiling panel. the door can no longer be opened or closed by one person because it is heavy and the strut will not compress. the 1992 model had a similar failure and was recalled( my neighbor had his struts replaced and his ceiling panel repaired at no cost one year ago), but the dealership in the area and chrysler/dodge corp. informed me that my model was excluded from the recall. only 1992 models of certain vin's were included. they were unable to tell me the criteria by which they limited the recall. fortunately, no-one was hurt by the falling door or the ejecting strut in this occurence. | |||
