This van has had the air conditioner go out at least 3 of the 6 years that i have owned it. now, the abs completely went out almost causing a crash with several children in the van; the brakes are 90% gone! this van has been a lemon and is in need of repair every year. many other things have gone out top include the transmission. what concerns me most is that things like the air-conditioning go out every 1 to 2 years and my extended warranty expires in march of next year. is there anything i can do to get the the air-conditioning replaced entirely due to it always failing? also, i am not sure if my vehicle is fuel injected or not. brian pabst 1614 hall street downers grove, il. 60516

When we became aware of a problem within the abs brake system on this van we took the van to our mechanic ronnie poe. he informed us that this was under recall, we then took the van to manassas dodge on june 8, 1999, where they supposedly fixed the pump compressor on the abs brake system. on july 29, 1999 the abs brake system failed again. i had the van towed to manassas dodge in manassas va by henry's towing. the tow truck drive as well as a co-worker witnessed that the abs brake system light was on and the brakes were not working. manassas dodge could not find a problem. they sugested that my rotors had caused the problem. once i received the van back from manassas dodge, my husband inspected the rotors and found no problem with them. again on september 18, 1999, while my husband was driving the abs brake system failed, the break pedal was hard and had no pressure in them. once again, this problem seemed to have corrected itself. i contacted the daimler chrysler recall center on monday, 9/20/99 and advised them of the problem. they gave me a file # of 6251453 and advised me that the wheel speed circuit may be what is causing this to happen. at this point i am very frustrated and very concerned with my safety in driving this van. you never know when the brakes are going to go out on you. your help in finding a timely resolution to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I am having a problem with the a/c, heater switching to blow out through the defrost when accelerating or under load causing poor cooling/heating. i talked to chrysler and they said it would cost to figure out what is causing it to switch. i have had the compressor replaced while it was under warranty because it was leaking. i had to replace the cooling fan after warranty. it failed again almost a year later. but the part was replaced with only installation cost. i would be interested in knowing what other things can be done to solve the problem of switching to defrost. sincerely dwayne c. abbott

I have a 1993 dodge caravan. i have spent over $10,000.00 on repairs since i bought it new in 1993. i am extremely dissatisfied with dodge. i've had several recalls on various components, they were corrected and are now again defective including my seatbelts, abs system, and steering column. i am now noticing that the paint is eroding on the top of my van. i've seen many other dodge caravans with the exact same problem and the exact same pattern of corrosion. it appears the paint is wearing off on the tops of the cars, then the hoods and so on. it eventually rusts through as i've seen on at least 20 dodge caravans. i have never encountered paint wearing away like this on any other vehicles that i've owned and much older than 10 years. i believe there is a defect somewhere in the painting process, perhaps the primer or the paint itself. this is the third letter i've written and i have not received a response from anyone. i would appreciate an investigation into the painting process of these vans. i believe it is also occurring in other year models. thank you, susan deanfrasio. *jb

On january 5th on our way to a wedding the brakes on my van became hard and it took longer than usual to stop, at first i wasn't sure what was going on (i had the brakes fixed recently). on monday coming back from picking up my kids it happened again, my husband told me then that something like that had happened to him just the day before. called reagal dodge and they schedule an appointment for the 9th. they told me right away that the abs system had other components which were not covered under the recall. i said to only fixed whatever was cover by the recall. on friday the 11th they called and said that the warning lights were still on but the brakes were working fine. a week after on the 18th the brakes failed again on my way home after picking up my kids. this time the brakes were really hard and the car took almost half a block to stop completly. took the car to my mechanic and this was his diagnosis. problem appears to be a bad abs/master cylinder assembly. this is a warranty item and should be covered by the dealer. tried to contact regal dodge with no luck, left to messages and sent an e-mail asking them for an appointment they never answer until i call the recall center number on the notice, they agree to see the van if i agree to pay for the diagnosis in case the problem wasn't abs related. i didn't accept. is the dealer right when they say some parts are not covered? can i have my van fixed by my mechanic and be reimbursed? wasn't the dealer required to do any recall job on a vehicle before selling it? i understand this recall was issue on june 1996, they sold me the van on october 1996. please i'll appreciate any information. thank you. *ak

The brake pedal became rock hard. there were no brakes. fortunately, when this incident occurred, i was doing 10-15 mph. i cring to think what could have happened had i been on the highway. i understand that on this vehicle, the abs was recalled due to the pump motor assembly and the actuator piston. i am still alive and can tell you that the controller in the abs is also defective. my husband, child, & i could have been killed. my parents would not have even thought about you. had it not been for a wonderful mechanic he told me about a similar problem, i would not have known to contact chrysler. they were of little help to be but they were much better than the serviceman at lawrence dodge who refused to discuss the possibility of a defective part where 2 other defective parts have actually been recalled.*ak

The engine stalls completly when going at any speed when the brakes are applied to slow down or turning, has done this since we bought it new, have taken it in for several checkups and the dealer cannot locate the problem. this constantly persists and i believe this is a manufacturing defect beacause i have spoken to several people who purchased the same vehicles in 1993, 1994 and 1995. these people just sold their cars or traded in to get rid of the problem. this is an apparent engine defect that chrysler made these cars during these years. i would like to see a recall for this problem, this can and will cause accidents and deaths.*ak

Prior complaint was filed around 10/02/00 reporting multiple brakes failures after years of intermittent abs problems. my van was taken in for repairs to the abs system. i picked up said vehicle about 4:30 p.m. on october 11th from bill bryan where they had replaced the abs pump and piston package along with the abs pump relay. by friday afternoon the brakes failed on hwy 27 when my daughter was driving home from wal-mart with three children in the van, ages 5 months, 9 years of age and 11 years of age. the abs light flickered for awhile and all braking was lost. she creeped home at around 20 mph where she picked me up from work. when she arrived at my work the abs brakes had started back working again. i called the chyrsler dealership where the work was done and left a heated message on their voice mail since i was greatly upset by the risk my family had been placed in. i told them i was driving the van to them. the brakes were operational for about 5 miles but after the abs warning light flickered on and off the lights stayed on and the brakes were gone. the brake pedal was hard at the time i dropped this vehicle off at bill bryan approximately 48 hrs after the repairs were made.*ak

I drove to work and experienced no pressure on my brakes. i was unable to stop my car immediately when i pressed on the brake peddle. i almost had an accident. on august 4, 1999, i took the car to crj auto & truck repair inc. at 1560 brentwood rd. in bayshore. upon their diagnostic test, they concluded that the abs system was not working. after checking with dealer for repair parts, it was concluded that this system was a recall. i have no vehicle to go to work and dealer refuse to provide a rental. they gave me an appointment for august 16, 1999 and stated they would only do repairs if indeed it is the abs system and if there is a recall on the part. as per their computer information, the dealer states that it was repaired in 1996. i purchased the van in 1996 and do not remember having it repaired. however, as per your recall database, if there was a repair done, the warranty on all abs components was extended to 10 years or 100.000 miles. i have used 94,947miles since i purchased the vehicle. please assist me in any way you can to prevent injuries or accidents.

I have a 93 dodge caravan se and i heard some noise coming from the abs which i was told it was normal for anti- lock brakes. i've had the van for less than a year. i was driving home from the bank with 4 out of the 7 children i have when the abs stopped working which made it completely hard to stop. i almost ran into several people while trying to get my children home safely. i took the vehicle to the dealer because i was told that there was a recall on the accumulator. now the story has changed and they said only the pump was recalled. so the abs is not fixed. i feel that it is very dangerous for that vehicle to be on the road with the abs system failing while driving 60 to 70 mph. *jb

I believe it was last year when i received the recall notice on the abs. i took the van in and had it fixed supposedly. the abs light would go off and on throughout the year for no apparent reason. i took the van in once to have this checked and they said they couldn't find any reason for this. on 1/8/99, i was pulling out of a parking lot when i experienced what felt like a complete loss of brakes. luckily no one was near me and i could reverse into a parking spot and put the gear into park to stop the car. if i had been on a secondary road or highway at the time of the failure there could have been diasterous results.
