Paint is flaking off the hood and roof. not a normal age flaking. paint bubbles up and then flakes off. white primer is seen as paint flakes off. dealer admitted that it was a defect, but i had waited to long to bring it in. they refused to do anything about it. i had not received any notice of recall for this problem. the other recalls on this make/model were dealt with promptly upon receiving notice. *ak

Our family is a second generation consumer of the chrysler coporation's products. this vehicle has proven such a lemon, we really doubt that we will ever buy another chrylser/dodge product. within a month of our purchase, we had a recall on the liftgate latch, that was fixed. we are currently having our transmission inspected by a licensed chrysler dealer, and will submit to the corporation. we have had the seat belts not retract on the driver's and passengers side for years, which catch in the doors constantly. the power windows in the rear had a motor go out, the universal joint fell off while the car was sitting in the drive, and the most ungodly act was when someone was closing the sliding passenger door, and it totally slid off the car. luckily, no one was injured. the airconditioning was about 2 years old when it died, and the company replaced that underwarranty, along with the universal joint. the sliding door cost us a fortune, and the company only gave us $122.00. i wish that i could turn back the hands of time, and have bought the windstar instead of this esxpensive lemon.

On the passenger & drivers side doors the sheet metal surrounding the bottom hinges is cracking, with the cracks beconing increasingly worse with time. the passenger door began to open about 3 mos. ago with the sound like that of a coke can being folded midway on the cylinder, then being folded back & forth. upon inspection, i noted a small crack on the sheet metal that the hinge is bolted to. today the crack extends above & below the top & bottom of the hinge approx 1/2 inch. the drivers side door started making the coke-can sound roughly a week ago; and has a crack slightly longer than the hinge is high. after reading reports of people having their hinges disconnect from their caravans due to what i regard as an apparent fatigue failure, i am concerned.

Both the driver and passenger doors have broken away from the hinges. we contacted the dealer and their reply was that the wind probably blew back the doors and broke the hinges. how can this happen to both doors in exactly the same spot. we have had to replace the transmission twice, once a year after we bought the car, and another about a year or so ago.

While closing the rear liftgate the door snapped (i heard a snapping sound) and upon further investigation, i realized that one of the bolts holding the door from the top snapped off. i can't close the rear liftgate, or keep it open all the way. i believe that this is a very dangerous situation. i don't even know what kind of mechanic can fix such a problem. the only work i had done on the door was a recall that dodge had about the lock on the door, and that was done by an authorized dealer.

Bolt attaching the rear door support shock to the body broke off at the top thread. the shock immediately extended and tore the headliner. the rear door slammed closed in what could have been a fatal blow to our 2 year old child. failure is a design flaw in using a shoulder on the bolt to put the threads in tension while a bending force is also being exerted causing the threads to fail. a very dangerous situation for small children as these vehicles get older.
