| In 2003 bcm replaced for my windshield wipers would not operate. over $600 . last year my battery cables and battery were smoking and i was lucky i got to the dealer just in time as black smoke was gushing out from under my hood.... another $600 repair. in january 2006 electrical system craziness. check engine light was on and it could not be smoged. they reprogrammed the module and i was able to get it smoged 2 days later the check engine light came on and the car would turn over and die ....i returned and was told i needed a pcm module replaced $719. getting the car back was one electrical mishap after another....the gauges went crazy...taken back to dealer....reprogrammed ....and then told they were not sure how to fix it...then got the car back and the clock and radio intermittently went on and off.. the computer shutting down and not allowing the remote to open the locks using the key the alarm would go off and i could not shut it off until the computer came back on and i could use the remote....i was then told by the service manager that i needed a body control module(bcm) which i replaced in 2003. he was nasty and rude. i told the general manager i really did not believe they knew what they were doing ....for each time i brought the car in with one problem they returned it to me with another. he could also not guarantee that if i paid another $550 for a new bcm that it would solve all the problems.... ...after 6 weeks and four trips to the dealer having my car over 2 weeks i was frustrated and angry....and after reading on the internet countless other dodge caravan owners have the same problems i am outraged dodge has ignored its responsibility to its consumers. .when i dropped it off the clock, radio, locks and alarm were the problem..but an hour after i picked it up it started raining and guess what....the windshield wipers were not operating. *jb | |||

| Electrical - windshield wipers, radio, static electricity windshield wipers will start operation while activation switch is in off position at random while driving. wipers also will start operating when ever turn signal is activated. this problem has been on-going since the purchase of the vehicle in 1996. even though this problem was reported before the expiration of warranty, a remedy was never offered by dealer' service department. static electricity is a problem at times. upon entering vehicle one could experience an electrical shock from touching door handle, steering wheel, etc., radio/tape player malfunctioning occurred quite often during first few years of ownership. when reported to service department, was informed that warranty had expired. since then fm tuner has completely stopped working. *jb | |||

| In fueling our van, on two different occasions, we have had a fire. the fire comes from the filler pipe on the van! the van was totally turned off. it does extinguish itself after awhile. we are experiencing shock constantly when we touch the van. we have had it to the dealer about the shocking problem, but not the fire. we assumed it was with our personal gas tank. contacted the gas co. and they investigated and corrected what could have been a problem. no other vehicals that are filled at this tank have experienced this difficulty. my son and i were involved the first time there was a fire. he was burnt slightly. the second time, only myself. we are concluding now, that the difficulty is within the van. we are contacting a dealer in the am but would you please assist. not only was the filler pipe on the van on fire, the hose from the stationary tank and the ground was on fire. our machinery shop and equipment could have been lost, not to mention lives! needless to say - we are scared! the fire dept. was called both times! please help!!! *ak | |||

| Since we purchased our van in august of 1997, we have had many repairs and visits to the dealer. as of today, they have not fixed or diagnosed the brake problems. when coming to a stop or applying my brakes, a crunching sound occurs ,and i can feel it in the pedal. it is a fairly loud sound and the vibration is distracting because you lose your brake pedal for a period of 1-2 seconds. i have talked to other dodge caravan owners and plan to take a detailed survey on this matter, but, none to this point have had this problem. this leads me to believe this is a defect in the brake system or antilock brake computer system which is undetectable. this does not occur all the time, and not under the same conditions. this, also, leads me to the conclusion there is a major saftey defect here. i have had this to the dealer and they say they cant diagnose the problem. what am i supposed to do, get in an accident? i have asked that they recall my van, refund full purchase price or replace my vehicle with one similar to mine. this is not the only problem: today it was in for brakes and a blown engine head gasket. previously, catalytic converter/ blower motor/battery/ speed sensor and anti rattle bumpers that still havent corrected problem/fuel filter ground strap and fuel filler tube ground strap have been replaced. also, deglazed brakes, but still brakes squeak.finally, headlights replaced w/housing/lamp, and whatever else they have done to it while in the shop right now. it has been there since tuesday feb.02. this van is no way worth the hassles that i have been put through and i dont think anyone should have this many problems so early on. i have done extensive research on this model and have found atleast 100 complaints for transmission problems and other major repairs and undiagnosed problems with the engine. i think it is time someone stepped in and took a good look at this 96 vehicle because it is not up to saftey standards by a long shot. thank you. | |||

| 1996 dodge caravan suffers from intermittent body control module. one of the possible symptoms of this failure is random failures of the windshield wipers. this failure is unpredictable and apparently widespread over several model years. the body control module is replaceable only at chrysler dealers who charge over $700 to replace this module. they have contracted with some national service facilities to repair the modules (including united radio in syracuse ny) but these service facilites are contractually prohibited from performing repairs on modules submitted by anyone except daimler-chrysler. this failure is dangerous and daimler/chrysler is using it as a cash-cow instead of repairing it at no charge.*ak | |||

| I purchased my vehicle used, and since then, the windshield wipers came on without warning, and at the oddest times. also, my airbag light turned on and my horn stopped working because of it. suddenly, about 3 months ago, the car started smoking. i took it to get it serviced and asked them to check the source of the smoking. the service men told me that it was because the vehicle was burning oil. i was told by other mechanics, after the fire that i describe below, that if the vehicle burns oil, the smoke would be temporary, and it would go away after it burns off. well... it didn't, and this is what happened: on april 20th, i parked my car on the outdoor parking lot of the whole foods market, in glendale, ca. i heard an announcement over the pa, that there was an emergency in the south parking lot, and that everyone there should move their car. i was parked in the south lot. on the way out, a lady told me that there was a car on fire, and the fire dept was on its way. i continued on my way outside, and when i got to the parking lot, i saw that it was my vehicle. the fire did not burn through the firewall, but everything under the hood was destroyed. the fire dept from glendale, sent an arson investigator, since the car was parked and there had been some car fires in the area. turns out, the arson investigator tells me, that the fire was caused by something electrical. the van did not overheat. everything seemed fine, until the thing caught fire on sunday. *jb | |||

| Integrated child seat wont retract when pulled out. weatherstripping on drivers door fell off found out the drivers door was not aligned properly. constant belt noise especially during wet conditions. dealer must repeatedly tighten them. brakes pulsate when applying them. replaced numerous components on rear brakes. fuel tank would not read fuel level correctly. dealer had to replace fuel tank, fuel pump, and other components and said the fuel tank was bowed. dual sliding doors have to be repeatedly adjusted because they become difficult to slide. driver's side window regulator broke for no apparent reason. right rear child safety seat had hole in the buckle. replaced battery once.installed child safety belt extensions due to recall. van is now back in shop for unknown problems, will not start. | |||
