2005 dodge caravan. i had an engine light come on and heard a clicking noise in the engine. i had it checked by a non-dodge dealer and he researched and was told that this engine has had problems with cracked flywheels causing shifting problems. i thought it unusual that a main part such as a fly wheel would crack. i took it to classic dodge in denton, tx and was told that the flywheel is cracked and needs to be replaced at a cost of $1080.00 have any other reports of this type been sent? *tr

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - COOLING SYSTEM - HOSE
01/15/200875961104/30/2005
2005 dodge caravan received engine coolant daring/flush/refill by an authorized chrysler/jeep/dodge dealer (cutrone's, moon township, pa 15108) on 1/10/08. five days later the hose on the outlet tubing coming through the firewall from the heater core came off of the tubing, causing the rapid loss of all the engine coolant. the dealer claims that they did not touch this hose during the engine coolant replacement on 1/10. they claim that it is just a coincidence that the hose came off five days after they serviced the vehicle. they also claim that it is just a coincidence that the clamp that holds the hose in place was found to be about 4 inches further back from the connection end of the hose than it was supposed to be in order to effectively clamp it onto the tubing. even though the clamp was firmly compressing the hose in the wrong position that it was found after the incident, the dealer maintains that it must have happened by itself, or by someone who serviced the vehicle before them. as the vehicle was originally purchased with 5 year / 100,000 mile engine coolant, the coolant system had never ever been serviced before 1/10/08. this was the first engine coolant service, followed by the first spontaneous detachment of an engine coolant hose. since the dealer is absolutely certain that the problem was not caused by the service procedure, then the problem had to be caused by some kind of defective condition that is inherent to the hose, tubing, and/or clamp that chrysler/dodge uses on the 2005 caravan. the rapid loss of engine coolant is a potentially dangerous, unsafe, and life-threatening event. this incident should be thoroughly investigated, because most of these types of vehicles carry young children who could be seriously injured or killed if the engine coolant is rapidly lost under certain traffic, weather, or roadway conditions. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. while putting grocery into the trunk of her vehicle, the vehicle started then stalled on its own. she was holding the keys in her hand and there were no occupants in the vehicle at the time. she also does not have a remote key starter. the failure occurred twice. while driving approximately 20 mph, the automatic door locks activated and within a few minutes while driving the alarm engaged. the manufacturer was unable to offer any assistance. no repairs were made to date. the failure mileage was 101,000. the current mileage was 102,062.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. the contact lost control of the vehicle and the brakes failed, resulting in a near crash with two other vehicles. the failure has occurred approximately eight times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer at 12,000 miles. the dealer stated that the failure was intermittent and they could not diagnose the failure unless it occurred while in their possession. the current mileage is 24,285 and failure mileage was 23,500.

While driving, my caravan looses all engine power and almost stalls. took it to the dealer, but since there is no check engine light or code in the system they cant find the fault. this has been going on for over three months. it's sporadic and puts me in a dangerous situation because i lose all steering and brake control ,i travel on main roads @55mph. also, sometimes when i start it up it will idle for a few minutes then either surge to a higher rpm or choke to the point of stalling. *nm

Faulty equipment. i have had trouble with the engine belts on my 2005 caravan. i have had six sets of belts put on the van in a year. the dealer just put another set today. the dealer said all of the four cylinder engines are having the same problem. why is it that this problem can't be fixed?? they put a new engine in the van in june of 2006 at 13,000 miles and i am still having the same problem. *nm
