Power door locks failed on 2005 dodge caravan sxt purchase new on december 21, 2004. doors will work manually, but will not operate with the remote or power lock buttons. the back door gate will not lock without the power locks working. the power door locks are designed to automatically lock when reaching speed of approximately 20 mph. it does not. this is a safety issue. why doesn't dodge admit to this problem and provide a free software upgrade? if you google it there are many complaints of this. this should be a recall for safety issues. *tr

I own a 2005 dodge caravan and starting at the begining this summer the doors started to not lock or unlock with switch inside or with key lock button. we have had to giggle the fuses at least 3 times. just fixed again today. there is only one lock on driver side door that uses key to enter it.

The electronic door locks on 2005 dodge caravan quit working about a year ago. dodge says there is no recall and they can replace the part for $350 - $375. there are many many people with the same 2005 model caravan with the same problem. i can remove a 20amp fuse for 20 seconds and it will reboot the system and it work again for anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. i paid for an electronic door lock and it should work. my family to avoid someone jumping into the car at a stop sign or stop light must manually lock the doors that we paid to have done electronically. there is a malfunctioning part and it needs to be recalled and replaced.

The power door locks on 2005 dodge caravan do not work. have tried resetting computer, on many occasions, with no help from dealer. computer reset is only a temporary fix at best. this presents a serious theft issue and a child safety issue. many similar complaints have been found on the internet, but no recall has been issued.

 Electric door locks not working
01/15/200864000
After raining and freezing overnight, i got into my 2005 dodge caravan to go to work. i attempted to move down the drivers side window with the power window down switch. the window was frozen in place. after trying to get the window down 3 or 4 more times. i gave up and went onto work. when i came out from work to go home the window was completely down. i tried to use the power window up button and it would not raise. took it to a dodge dealer and they replaced the entire window raising/lowering mechanism at a cost of over $400.00. sent complaint to chrysler and they did not even write me back. do not try to lower a window in a dodge caravan as the mechanish is weak, mis-designed and flimsey.

While using the remote to lock the doors the horn beeped indicating doors were locked but the doors never lock. this has happened 5 times with no set pattern or method to make it happen again. found that removing a fuse from under the hood and re-installing seems to reset the system allow proper locking operation. pulling this fuse also resets the radio presets but since the warranty expired this seems like a little inconvenience for the cost to fix a problem that happens randomly.

Power door locks stopped working about 2 months ago. i read on the internet how to fix it, most suggestions were to replace the fuse. we have cleaned and replaced the fuse several times, but the door locks still go out erratically. this is a major issue because i have a very bad back and it is impossible for me to reach/lean across or to crawl to the back to lock the door manually. there are so many complaints about this issue. why hasn't dodge or the government taken care of this problem. how many complaints does there have to be in order to have something recalled?

Hi i already have a complaint in your system the # is 10332386 . the problem is the doors will not open or lock when i press the remote. this has been going on since may. it stopped and came back again since the date of my first complaint. it has happen at least 5 times including today that i am having the same problem. the plugs from the battery have to be removed and put on again and then it works. i have no clue how long this process will work before i have to either invest in a new sensor to solve the problem. i was hoping you could help me find out if i am covered for this either in a recall or warranty. it started with my car mileage at 49,000 and now i'm up to 52,000 and it's still happening. can you please let me know if the dealer will tell you some thing different as you are the nhtsa? i'm sure they will tell us the customer any thing to get us in to spend over $500.00 to get it fix. when it may really be a fault of the dealer or maybe the warranty will cover it. the dodge ccaravan is a 2005 and it runs really well ao far thank god. it's just this issue that is really becoming a pain. please let me know if you can advise me on my next steps to take. thank you and have a happy new year.

2005 dodge caravan electric locks stop working. pull ido fuse wait 10sec reinstall, locks work again for weeks or days then you have to repeat proceedure. chrysler has some kind of fix where they flash an eprom with some updated code (not a physical defect but a programming error) then they charge the car owner! chrysler knows about this problem and has done nothing proactive to address the issue. this is a very unsafe condition. when this happens you will not be aware that the doors have not locked and especially if you have children this could lead to an injury or a fatality. this is not an isolated problem you have only to search the internet to find possibly hundreds of frustrated and angry caravan owners.

We own a 2005 dodge caravan and the power locks have stopped working, which to me is a real safety concern having two small children. after looking around on the web there are several people having this problem. i was also informed that it is an issue with the computer and they have a patch program and they want to charge $130.00 for this repair, not a problem except that if several people are having this problem and it is a software problem then dodge should fix it. thank you for listening. *tr

Driver side door does not open or shut completely. it only opens 6 to 8 inches and closes until about 6 to 8 inches. the latching mechanism sometime does not work at all or repeatedly tries to auto latch itself. this occurs every time we try to use the auto door feature. it appears that some wires have been severed, but the cost to repair at dealership is outrageous. i am afraid that the door will not properly close, leading to injury or death of my passengers. you can view many websites that have lots of people complaining aobut his exact same thing: http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/2005_dodge_gc_sliding_door_problem

I have a 2005 dodge caravan i bought used from the dealer in 2005. in 2007 the driver side rear sliding door lock failed. i cannot lock the door with the auto lock system inside the van or on the key fob. i brought it to the dealer to look at and was told the door lock actuator failed. one year later the other rear sliding door lock failed. it is not covered under warranty. so i have been unable to fix the problem. *tr

Automatic locks stop working on dodge 2005 caravans. after opening the hood and removing the fuse and reinserting it several times it starts to work. this happens every couple of days. it has happened to thousands of other drivers/owners. the company is aware of it but will do nothing to fix the problem. *tr

The power lock system is failing almost on a weekly basis. the dealership states this is not a recall problem although from this site: http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock , and others this is a major problem taking place mostly after the vehicle is only a couple years old. i have to pull a 20 amp fuse and replace it for the locking mechanism to work again. the dealership is unaware of the problem and states that i must pay $100 to fix it, and if that doesn't fix it i am out of my money. i refuse to pay to have a problem fixed that is nearly as old as the vehicle itself. the locking mechanism problem described effects all the doors except the back lifting hatch door. the pulling of the fuse only resets the problem for approximately one week. *tr

My wife, 2 young children, and i went out to spend the afternoon running errands. when we left our home, the door locks worked with the keyless entry system as well as with the switches inside the car. after making our second stop of the afternoon, my wife noticed that the door locks were no longer functioning. they failed to work via key chain, switch, or speedometer override (when car reaches 20 mph). compounding the issue, the caravan only has one outside door lock, which means the car can only be manually unlocked at the driver side door. the remaining doors must be unlocked from the inside. this means that someone must climb throughout the vehicle's interior to let other passengers in. as i mentioned earlier, i have 2 small children and it is extremely frustrating, not to mention dangerous, to have to leave them standing beside the car while my wife or i climb about the interior to unlock the passenger doors so as to gain access to their car seats. *tr

Automatic door lock/unlock failed to lock/unlock on my wife's 2005 dodge caravan. this is apparently a common failure on this model as i determined from a web site. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtm the push buttons on the key give the indication of locking/unlocking the vehicle doors as the headlights blink and the horn signals a receipt of the signal, but the doors do not lock. also, the door lock switches on the inside of the door do not activate the locks. you can lock and unlock manually by using the buttons on each door - manually pushing them down to lock or raising them up to unlock. however, that is hard to do on a van as lock buttons are not easily reached. while there was no accident or damage from our failure, i can see the possibility of a problem, as an example : 1) a person thinks the doors are locked and a child is able to open the door while the vehicle is moving, 2) a person leaves the vehicle in a parking area thinking the doors are locked when they are not and someone breaks into the vehicle to steal it or to hide an attack the driver when they return. our dodge dealer was aware that this is a common failure and offered to apply a fix for around $50. apparently, the fix is to disconnect the battery or pull a 20amp fuse which as far as i can determine from the above web site resets the computer module. so, i did the 20 amp fuse removal myself and that fixed it. however, from the complaints in the web site - this fix apparently does not last (that is sometimes it lasts for hours and sometimes for day or weeks). i will add that a few on the web site discussed having their computer reprogrammedand my dealer mentioned that term when i let him know i had been reading the web site. my extended warranty folks mentioned that probably the activator module would need to be replaced. all i know is-it is a class problem and as far as i am concerned should be fixed by a recall. *tr

The power door locks on our 2005 dodge caravan have stopped working at only 35,555 miles. therefore, i do not have control over all the locks from my driving position, and they no longer auto lock when the vehicle attains approximately 9 mph. our son could unlock the door while the vehicle is moving. i believe this is a safety issue and should be addressed by the manufacturer. online research has led me to believe that the problem is fixed by the dealership performing a software upgrade download. therefore they know there is a problem and they should fix it. *tr

Dodge caravan 2005 automatic door locks don't work properly. with small children this could be a real issue if they unlock or lock themselves in the car and the adult doesn't have the actual key on hand. only way to get the doors or trunk open is manually with a key now and only driver's side door has a hole for the key. the automatic side doors work half the time and seem dangerous for toddlers since they are erratic open/closing. *tr

Automatic door locks on 2005 dodge caravan (96,000 miles) quit working all of the sudden. i discovered the problem when i took 3 kids to the mall & tried to lock the doors & nothing happened. i have had to pull the iod fuse & replace it twice now in 3 days just to be able to lock my doors. it isn't an option to not lock the doors but i really can't keep pulling the fuse & having to reset the clock every day or so. this is a major issue as there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of caravan owners with the same exact problem. *tr

We have owned our 2005 dodge grand caravan since 10/2004 and have had problems with the power locks for two years. power locks are very important to us for practical and safety reasons (we have 3 young children) so we were pleased to find online forums that provided temporary computer remedies to this problem to eliminate costly repair bills. however, this was only a quick fix and short term. the locks had to manually be reset monthly, sometimes daily (more than once a day near the end), and now cannot be rest at all. we have only 37,900 miles on our van but are no longer under warranty. it is just too costly to take the van into the dealership to fix a problem that obviously must be recalled by reading over a hundred complaints. this failure is a computer problem and must be remedied by dodge for the safety of our children before they are hurt. there is only one key entry to the van on the drivers side which makes it extremely difficult to maneuver and travel. we have to crawl all around the inside of the van and over car seats to lock and unlock all of the doors. if the doors aren't locked, one of the kids could open them which is a real safety hazard. disconnecting the battery to reset the computer system is not something that we should have to handle, it is a computer failure on the part of chrysler and should be recalled as such for our safety. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge caravan. my power locks and sliding side door stopped working. could not lock/unlock doors with key entry nor the lock switch inside. also, i could not open/close the side sliding door with key entry nor with switch inside the van. had to manually lock/unlock doors throughout the van. on one website, i found 42 people with the same complaint about the power locks that go back for a two year period (march 2007 to may 2009). i have done what they suggest, which is to either disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, remove the #20 iod fuse for 5 seconds, or pay to have dodge update the software for the computer in the vehicle. i did the second choice. if all goes as it was stated on the website, the problem with the power locks will occur again. all but about 5 people have had recurring problems with their power locks. i feel that this is a safety issue due to the fact that i have two young kids who are able to open the doors by themselves if they wanted to do so. also, someone could get into the vehicle at any time when the power locks do not work and the person does not know that it is not working. please help up with this situation. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan automatic door locks no event leading to failure. randomly the door locks just quit working. more concerning is that the 19mph locking mechanism for the door locks will not work and the door lock switch quits working as well, leaving the rear doors unlocked while driving. there is no way to lock the rear doors from the exterior and short of crawling to the back over the front seats my children are in a car able to open the doors. this certainly has to be a safety issue. researching online, there appears to be numerous complaints with this issue and a varied amount of suggested fixes. dodge dealership desires to update the computer at a cost to me but, after reading the online complaints, this does not appear to be a fix. *tr

Failure of electrical system on 2005 dodge caravan, namely power door lock failure, including with key fob, switch on inside of vehicle and automatic locking mechanism. can be remedied by disconnecting battery and reconnecting or removing fuse and replacing. this only helps for up to 2 days. bought my van used at 115,000 miles, but every complaint i have read started at 40,000 miles. more than 40 complaints on one website alone. widespread problem among this model. my almost 2 year old son was able to open the door and climb out of the van on his own. thankfully we were stopped and parked. could have been a tragedy had we been in motion, and if i did not keep him securely fastened in his car seat until the vehicle stops. this was after resetting the battery for about the 20th time in the less than one year since i purchased my van. but again it had failed and the automatic locking mechanism hadn't engaged. i know that many have complained to dodge directly, but they refuse to acknowledge it as a safety issue and recall the electrical system. not the only problem i have found with the electrical system. others include headlights going out while driving, and turn signals not working properly, etc. people with small children (especially multiple small children) are a huge number of consumers for this vehicle and it would be a shame to have someone get hurt because dodge doesn't think it is a safety concern. i do and many others do as well. will it take a death of a small child for someone to get a recall initiated? *tr

2005 dodge caravan has approximately 65,00 miles and the automatic door locks stopped working. the remote would cause the lights to flash and the horn to sound as if the doors locked but they did not. the door lock buttons inside the van did not work, nor did they lock automatically when reaching 20mph. i did a scan of the obd ii connector and no fault codes came up. so i figured it was something simple like a fuse. i checked the fuse/relay and it was good. as soon as i replaced the fuse they started working again. i took it to a dealer for a recall on the front impact sensors which i had to make an appointment for. i asked the dealer about the door locks and they said to bring it in when they are not working, so they could check it out (for a diagnostics charge of $120). the service guy did state that it probably needed a software update. the impact sensor recall was not completed due to them not having the parts. now 2 weeks later still no parts for the recall (impact sensors) and the door locks quit working again. this time i disconnected the battery cable to reset the computer. and it works fine. being a person that likes to research things i did a googlesearch for dodge caravan locks will not work. i found the following website with 40 complaints about the very same thing. i think that this is a major safety problem and dodge should acknowledge this for a recall and fix the known issue. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. *tr

The power door locks stopped working in our families 2005 dodge caravan. aftyer doing some research onlins i've found this has happened to other consumers whom own the same vehicle year make and model. this is not a problem that is fixed by just simply replacing a blown fuse but it seems that it is a computer problem. we have small children whom could open a door that is not locked. *tr

We own a 2005 dodge caravan and the automatic door locks just quit working. we took it to our car repair and they were able to get them working again, but only for a couple of days. we eventually took it back to same repair and they called chrysler for information regarding part replacement. we took the van to a dealership where it was put on a machine to read and determined a part needed replaced. it was replaced and work approximately two hours and quit. if you go on the web you will find numerous complaints regarding this same problem. step up to the plate and tell those of us with this problem how to rectify permanently. it does not need to wait until someone is injured or killed because these locks don't work. i have spent nearly $500.00 in repairs not withstanding the number of times without my vehicle and the inconvenience of back and forth to the repair shop. the vin number on this vehicle . *tr

Power lock failure: suddenly the power locks stopped working. they don't work from the key fob, or the power lock buttons inside the van. alleged solution is a software update, costing upwards of $90.00 at the dealership. short term fix consists of disconnecting battery cable. this is a safety issue, annoyance, and clearly a manufacturing defect that should be fixed by the manufacturer free of charge. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan auto locks fail. kids can open doors while car is moving. the issue has been reported by many customers on internet support forums and apparently dodge refuses to recall this item. it appears to be a problem with the computer module of some sort and flashing the bios seems to help. this is ridiculous for the consumer to have to pay to fix such an issue. *tr

I noticed one day that the automatic door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan did not work. the doors did not lock when going over 20 mph nor did they work with the button in the van or with the button on the key. i took it to the dodge dealer and they told me it needed a software reprogramming - the cost was $100. this seems like a scam that your locks just quit working and then you have to pay. i have read of many similar complaints on this vehicle. *tr

Central locking system does not lock or unlock the doors even though it gives the beep letting driver think it does the job. sometimes this problem can be cured by removing iod fuse, but the problem comes back after a few days or even almost immediately. this appears to be a very common problem, however it is not listed as a recall. *tr

The power door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan stopped working. the solution by the dealer includes reflashing the computer control module in the vehicle with a software update. clearly, there is a design defect that was resolved with the software update. dodge required me to pay for this software update, despite this being a key feature of the vehicle. the power door lock feature is a safety feature for families with small children. the ability to lock/unlock all vehicle doors from the driver's seat in the event of an emergency is a required feature. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the automatic doors locks stopped working on the key pad and on the interior locks. i was told by my dodge dealership that there is a software update that needs to be done that comes out of my pocket. this is not only unacceptable, but a huge safety hazard not only for me, but my 3 year old daughter as well. this seems to be the standard from what i understand for the caravan. once it hits 30,000 miles the power door locks stop working. this is absolutely ridiculous and should be recalled. how do they expect in these economic times for the average working class to pay out of pocket for an error on their part for some software update??? as you can tell i am very displeased with dodge. i as well sent a complaint to them. is going to take somebody to die for them to see that this needs to be recalled?!?!?!? *tr

We have a 2005 dodge caravan and the automatic door locks continue to stop working. initially, we paid $70 for a mechanic who disconnected and reconnected the battery cable. my husband has done the same thing with similar results. the first time, it worked about 2 months. then, it happened twice in august and has now happened at least 3 times in sept. 2008. there is only one keyhole in the van to manually unlock all of the doors. this creates a safety hazard and much inconvenience! *tr

At any unknown time, the door locks will not lock, or unlock by way of using the key fob buttons. the button however does activate the horn, which would make you think the doors are locked,in reality they are not. this does not constitute a safe and secured vehicle. this problem has been brought to the service dept.'s of several dealerships with the answers being lightning in the sky, static from the seats, unknown electrical interference from somewhere(maybe space!. one service dept.'s charged $ 36.72 to fix code. the next time though there was no charge?? why the first time when it's still under warranty @ 26,000 miles ..this problem still exists. why??? former complaints from dodge p.u. owner had similar situation and had to have his veh. towed. this is unacceptable, another reason cited from dealers service dept was sliding across the seat could cause the problem, how do you do this when it has bucket seats?????? *tr

The power door locks do not function, have had this vehicle repaired per dodges tsb 08-040-04 on two occasions. that works for two weeks. was then told to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, and remove the bcm fuse, that also works for two weeks. the dealer recommended to replace the bcm, at my cost, but that will not fix the problem, as it has not fixed the issue on the other 2005's, per the service manager at another dealer. this is a safety issue, especially in a minivan with three children, and the power locks inoperable. it is imperative that dodge steps up and fixes these vans, for safety's sake. it appears, though, that dodge simply does not have a proper fix for this problem. *tr

My wife, 2 young sons, and i went out to spend the afternoon running errands. when we left our home, the door locks worked with the keyless entry system as well as with the switches inside the car. after making our second stop of the afternoon, my wife noticed that the door locks were no longer functioning. they failed to work via key chain, switch, or speedometer override (when car reaches 20 mph). compounding the issue, the caravan only has one outside door lock, which means the car can only be manually unlocked at the driver side door. the remaining doors must be unlocked from the inside. this means that someone must climb throughout the vehicle's interior to let other passengers in. as i mentioned earlier, i have 2 small boys and it is extremely frustrating, not to mention dangerous, to have to leave them standing beside the car while my wife or i climb about the interior to unlock the passenger doors so as to gain access to their car seats. over the last year, i have taken my vehicle to the dealership to have this same problem addressed on five separate occasions. the longest this problem has remained resolved is thirteen months. each time the dealership has replaced the body control module. today will be the sixth occasion i have had the same problem with my door locks. *jb
