While driving at highway speed the vehicle made a pop sound and lost power. i was forced off the highway as there were no shoulders and had to push the vehicle across traffic to safety. the timing chain tensioner failed, resulting in the timing chain breaking. this resulted in damage to the upper portion of the motor, including all intake and exhaust valves, marring on the pistons and cracked heads.

While driving my 2010 challenger rt 4.7l hemi on the ca 15 freeway at 70 mph the car suddenly shut down. the warning lights for engine and oil came on and i had to coast to a stop. steering and brakes remained operational and luckily i made it to the shoulder as the 15 freeway is extremely busy and fast. i had the car towed to a nearby dodge dealer where they informed me that my plastic timing chain guides had disintegrated and caused a blown engine. the car repairs (rebuilt engine) were covered under the 100k mile powertrain warranty but took 4 weeks to complete. the car had 54k freeway miles on it when this happened, was regularly maintained, and never showed any indications that a severe issue would have been forthcoming. i now question the longevity of the new rebuilt engine as same timing chain assembly parts were used during the repair. noticed there is at least one other identical report on the nhtsa website so reported on my incident. *tr

I've had the same issue as many have discribed when your challenger loses all power steering and breaking ability while making a right turn at low speeds. luckily i was pulling into a car wash when this happened and not at my sons elementary school where the deadly potential of killing school kids was there...by the way i was on the way to pick up my kid when i made a last minute choice to get a quick wash. so as stated by everyone else here, put the car in park an was able to start right back up afterwards. not knowing this was an issue that others were having, i opened the hood and started looking for lose cables or poped caps and such and finding nothing. also prior to turning the car off i jumped into the hidden evic menus and took pictures of the important data such as chime codes, ccn software version just in case there might be an update. i noticed the oil pressure was at 0!!! after everything was back to working i check the same detail and it was at a normal 25psi. so took car into dodge and as normal, we couldn't find anything and there are no issues that i know. we also couldn't reproduce it. really? you couldn't reproduce an issue that i told you appears to be random from all the other people that have had this happen? it's like they just don't give two shits about people's lives? so i'll call corporate tomorrow and see how much they don't care either. by the way, this is the first time for me and i was at 17,250 miles. car model is the rt automatic. let's hope we can get them to fix this before people get killed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge challenger. the contact stated that the second gear shift would pop out of gear, causing sudden acceleration. the contact crashed into storage unit as a result of the failure. the contact sustained a fractured toe and leg injuries, and was transported to the hospital. the front and left side of the vehicle was damaged and the vehicle was towed to a body shop. a police report was filed. the manufacturer was contacted and an inspector was sent to inspect the failure of the vehicle. the claim was denied after inspection. the failure mileage was 13,400.

The vehicle stalled after braking at around 15 mph. the vehicle was able to be restarted, but unable to shift into gear. as mentioned by many others, this is a severe safety risk and needs to be looked into. my vehicle was towed to dealer and an ecm flash was conducted, but i am afraid of this issue reoccuring like so many others.

This is the second time in less than 30 days that the challanger r/t has shut off while making a turn at speeds of 25 mph or less. reference odi id # 10421234 / incident date of 08/19/2011. wife was making a left hand turn off of a busy street (40 mph speed limit, into my home neighborhood) when the car suddenly dies, steering & brakes go hard, oil pressure light illuminates, and she had to coast to a stop, put the car in park, press the start button (even though dash message said key fob not found), car re-starts, and she continued 1/2 mile to our home. i'm not comfortable letting my wife or kids drive this car when the probability of it dying is very possible. i just drove the car up the narrow mountain passes to big bear, ca (8,000 ft elevation) & back 3 days ago, and this could have caused a major accident if it had died and i had lost control on a windy mountain road. how many people have to be injured or die before someone forces dodge / chrysler to identify & correct this problem. car is going to the dealership tomorrow morning, where i expect to get alot of nothing, but atleast my complaints will be intered into the service system.

Making a left hand turn through an intersection (less than 20 mph) when car stalls, oil light illuminates, and power steering & brakes become almost unusable. had to stop the car completely, put car in park, push the start button, and continue on to my destination. this is the 1st time this has occurred

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 dodge challenger. the contact stated while driving at 9 to 12 mph the rpm did not increase and caused a delay to shift from first to fourth gear and would allow the gear to shift into second or third. the failure occurred intermittently. the dealer test drove the vehicle, but was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 9,000 and current mileage was 11,300. li

The car stalls without any warning. i have had it stall in traffic and at intersections and have almost been hit a few times. this has happened about a dozen times in the 4500 miles on the car. it is very scary. the dealer has had the car for over two weeks with no end in sight. the last occurence was on the 13th of august. the car sometimes will not move after it is restarted and must be turned on and off a few times before it will drive.
