April 6th 2011:after leaving work & getting into my 2006 dodge charger sxt, which was parked in the employee parking lot,i started the vehicle & stepped on the brake to engage the shifter, unfortunately the car would not go into the drive position. after many attempts to shift the vehicle into drive, even doing the bypass method as stated in the owners manual,it still would not engage, finally i called road side service & had the car towed to a nearby dodge dealership which had informed me that the shifter had to be replaced. i was working out of state @ the time, staying in a motel so this added expense really stretched my budget:$461.04 out of pocket!! *tr

The shifter selector is stuck in the park position. a small plastic part breaks underneath the shift selector causing the malfunction. this is a common problem on chrysler 300, dodge magnum, and charger. a recall was issued only on some 2005-2007 models. it is the same problem for all of these cars yet why is only some vins covered? there is various aftermake replacements made of metal as the original should have been since it is a vital component. this is a flawed design made of week material. this should be repaired free of charge, but dodge doesn't want to take care of this problem. ## vin passed ## dodge charger srt8 2006 ## *tr

I pulled over on the side of the road to pick up something that had fallen into the floor and put my car in park. the when i started to put the car back in drive the gear shift was locked and would not move. there was no indication that this was about to happen. i was out on the side of the road alone and my car wouldn't go into drive or even leave park. since it was sunday and dodge dealers are closed. its hot outside so i had to call someone that works on automobiles. they came out and found that the safety neutral switch which is made of plastic parts mainly was broken/no longer working. i needed to move my car, so he took all these pieces out of the shifter so that i could drive the car home, and to the dealer to be fixed. the car was in park i know, but i couldn't been in a place that i needed to rely on my car moving for my safety or my little girls safety and it give no warning. this thing just locked into park, and you are stuck where ever it may be, a safe place or unsafe place. *tr

The car was parked outside, and when i went to drive the vehicle, it would not shift out of park. the gearshift (located in the center console) was locked in place, despite the vehicle starting up and the engine running properly. after researching the problem, it was discovered that the pink, plastic transmission gear shift interlock return spring hook was broken and needed to be replaced. since my car is a 2006 dodge charger with the same part that was recalled on over 23,000 chargers, chrysler 300s and magnums from the years 2005-2007, and that this specific part is the one that failed on the vehicle, i believe that my car and vin should be included in the recall, and that expenses incurred fixing this part should be reimbursed by the manufacturer. *tr

Wife was trying to go to work, started the car no problems, and the car would not shift out of park. i did a internet search and found out it was probably the pink thingy park lockout, which is a common problem with chrysler especially years 2005-2007. i was able to get it to the dealership and informed them it was the pink thing. the service rep looked at me and said oh! you know about that. informed me it is happening quite a bit. needless to say i had to pay $112.00 to get it fixed with another part made out of the same cheap plastic. it is unexscusable for this to be happening to so many people, and chrysler not doing anything to help people out. has turned me off on buying another chrysler vehicle since they do not seem to want to help out their customers.

Started the car, put my foot on the brake and proceeded to shift the gear into drive. my gear shift would not move out of park after multiple attempts, force and effort. called aaa and when the aaa driver came i explained to him that my gear shift would not come out of park. the driver explained to me that he gets over 100 calls a week for this problem. the driver removed the top off of my gear case and showed me how to release the cable to get the gear shift to come out of park. i found out that there is a recall for this problem. i took my car to the dealership only to find out that my car's vin # is not included in this recall. it is an insult and depressing that such an astronomical number of chrysler vehicles are experiencing this problem, however only a certain number of vehicles are recognized as being under the recall. this has to be changed. what do customers have to do to get customer satisfaction? customers are the ones supporting and buying chrysler cars. makes you want to take your business elsewhere and vow not to buy another chrysler car again!

I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t hemi. i have had this car for 5 1/2 years. it only has about 47,000, don't drive it much, but it has start giving me problems. today, i amost got rear ended by a semi truck because my car shut off at the red light and the light turned green and the car would not go into gear.this was on the way back to the shop.. i took it to the shop last month on march 7, 2012, to have it fixed, they put it on the diginostic machine and supposed to had found the problem they said it was wires and other thing around the tcm.they claimed to have fixed the problem but didn't. out of my pocket $241.00. this is what it was and is still doing: driving along at about 40-45 mph and you hear a ding sound and it jurks and the lighten bolt light flashes in the control panel on the dash the rpm gauge will drop and it acts as if it's going to shut off. within a 20 mile radius it did this 8 times. it then shut off on my twice at a red light, the engine light, oil and the lighten bolt light came on. and once approching the red light i punched the gas and it took off. just afternoon the dealership called and tole me that it was my tcm wanting to charge me another 600 + dolllars to fix it.this is the same problems that was suppose to have been fixed last month at the dealership and i am really p.... that they are tring to charge me again for something that they had claim to have already fixed. i am on a fixed income with a family and i don't have that kind of money laying around. i noticed a few months or even a year ago, i was leaking transmission fluid and they claimed they replaced an o-ring or some kind of plug. i see now there was a recall on something similar to this and i was charged for it. i have never recieved recall notices in the mail about my vehicle and now i am reading these recalls and there are 3 that i was not aware of and that worries me.

I have a 2006 dodge charger rt 5.7l hemi. i just recently purchased this car. at times when i am accelerating quickly or press wide open throttle the vehicle shuts off for a second and then cuts right back on. the check engine light comes on as well as the lightning bolt icon flashes and i also hear a chime as well. the rpms drop all the way to zero as if it is stalling and losing all power but immediately cuts right back on. through research i have noticed this is an on-going problem with a lot of charger owners and a recall should have been issued by dodge by now before someone loses their life. tsb# 1803105 nhtsa# 10016027

While attempting to accelerate the car will fail hesitate in the 5.7l hemi. also the check engine light flashes and the notification sounds beeps. check engine light does not remain on. failure to accelerate in any circumstances can result in collision including serious bodily injury or death. upon doing research (you can google this easily) this is a common problem associated with the powertrain control module which dodge has refused to acknowledge. this defective part/programming is most definitely not general wear and tear and should be a mandated recall prior to injury/death.

Vehicle will not come out of park due to failed shift interlock mechanism. shift interlock fails due to a 1/8 inch tab breaking off and releasing the spring not allowing the driver to take the vehicle out of park. the vehicle still starts but will not move. this problem will make it appear this something wrong with the vehicles transmission. this has happened with several dodge charger(s) and chrysler 300 vehicles. examples can be found on www.youtube.com. recommend failed mechanism be replaced by part : dorman 924-706. man people have complained about repairs for this item, which should be convered under a manufactures recall. thank you. happy holidays

Recently i started having an issue with my charger. upon entering a high way and attempting to merge with traffic during morning rush hour, my car lost all power upon acceleration. the engine did not stall but the tachometer dropped to near zero, the engine light and power light flashed briefly and then returned to normal. i attempted to accelerate again and same thing happened. fortunately i was able to avoid a pretty significant accident with the the cars behind me and the ones i was merging on to the highway with. the symptoms disappeared for a few weeks and then started again and progressively became worse. i brought the car to the dealer that investigated and found it to be the power control module which turned out to be quite expensive. i did some research on a forum that i belong to and found many instances of this. contacted chrysler and simply put they did not seem to care. there are many defects on this year of charger and not one of them has ever been covered, at least the ones that i have. i consider this latest incident to be serious safety problem and hope that it gets investigated. as for another chrysler product, never again in my lifetime. i rely on my vehicle for work and this is by far the worst that i have ever owned. please look into this before someone has to start checking off accident and death when submitting a form.

The column shift would not move. the engine started fine, however the car would not come out of park. i noted that there was a recall on the 2006 dodge charger for power train automatic transmission:lever and linkage column shift, although i have a 2006 dodge charger with the same problems i was informed by dodge that my vehicle was not a part of the recall. i believe that my vehicle should be included in the recall because it has the same exact problem as described above and my vehicle is the same year, make and model as the recall.

2006 charger would not shift out of park. called aaa, they said they've had many simular calls about dodge chargers. tow company driver said he's had several calls about this and knew how to temporarly get the car out of park. dodge dealer said that i had to get the whole shifter assembly replaced and it would cost between $500 & $600. found a repairman that replaced only the broken part. it was the shifter interlock that was made of plastic. the after-market part he replaced with was made of metal. if the dealer would have replaced the whole shifter assembly it would have had the same defective plastic part. why doesn't dodge do a recall on this?

I have a 2006 dodge charger and the rocker arm broke
05/15/201055000
Approximately around may 2010 the vehicle began randomly stalling. when it first began it was very infrequent, about once every 25 days, but it progressively got worse and worse. it is now at the point where it will stall every 5 to 15 minutes. the vehicle stalls when slowing/approaching a stop or stopped or when doing low speed maneuvering. it will occasionally stall when accelerating from a stopped position as well. the electronic throttle control light comes on when it stalls. the vehicle will generally restart without much problem. the symptoms are identical to the symptoms descibed involving the 2005 dodge durango (nhtsa defect investigation #ea05018 and investigation #pe05027).

2006 dodge charger is stuck in park. while researching a possible fix i noticed that this is a common defect even on newer chargers. i believe that this should be looked in to, as we the consumer are paying for repairs that dodge obviously knows is a trending problem.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. in april 2010, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership because the gear shifter locked into park. the dealer replaced the gear shifter but after the repair, the vehicle began to shut down suddenly while the contact was driving at any speed. the check engine light illuminated before the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealership numerous times. the contact called the manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealership. a engineer sent by the manufacturer advised the dealer to replace the transmission shifter, spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and transmission sensor. the failure continued. the failure mileage was approximately 52,000. the current mileage was 54,567.

I have a 2006 dodge charger, purchased in cleveland oh in october/november 2005. i had issues with my vehicle starting in the beginning of 2006. i initially noticed that my transmission clutch was slipping and that my vehicle would not shift into gear. i took the vehicle into the dealership in september 2006 o find that the transmission clip had to be replaced. then another issue, that has yet to be resolved, began to emerge in early 2007. i noticed that the vehicle would rumble as if was preparing to shut off, usually when i was coming to a stop. additionally, my vehicle would at times seem to be stuck in idle when i was trying to accelerate. my vehicle has been in the dealership repair shop 5 different times for this issue. i was told twice that the computer chip needed to be reprogrammed. two other times i was told the issue was related to brake issues and that my brakes needed to be replaced. i am filing this complaint because my vehicle is currently not under warranty, meaning a service charge everytime i take it in, and once again the issue has gone to the point where i need to take it one more time. i have contacted the manufacturer twice on this issue, once in 2007 and again recently, to no resolve. i have talked to one other charger (2007)owner who indicated they have a similar issue. the issue only occurs periodically, but prevents me from traveling long distances in my vehicle for fear of irreparable damage. i feel as my last option is to file this complaint. *tr

2006 charger will not shift out of park. apparent interlock failure, resulting in broken plastic piece. based on internet search found that chysler issued a customer satifaction notification k39, which only covered certain vehicles. it appears to be a very broad defect.

2006 dodge charger is stuck in park. pink emergency release described in the manuel does not work to resolve the problem. while researching a possible fix i noticed that this is a common defect even on newer chargers. i believe that paying for a repair that is so common and uncontrollable is senseless.

I have a 2006 dodge r/t daytona charger. it has 48,000 miles on it and has given me very few problems . i tried to put into reverse to back it out of the garage and it would not come out of park. i tried various things as described in the owners manual and by the mechanics at the dealership, but it would not budge. the car had to be towed to the dealership for repairs. (shifter replacement). everyone i have delt with seems to know of these problems as it seems to be a common occurance in 2005 and newer dodge vehicles with an automatic transmission and a floor shifter. i wonder why there hasn't been a recall. could it be that they charge over $300 to perform a 45 minute job to replace a $60 part?

No problems up to the point of failure. i have 42,000 miles on dodge charger. when i got in car two days ago, the gear would not come out of park. when i called the dealer, i didn't have to finish describing the problem, she told me that ths gear shifter had seized and what the price was to fix it. it was obviously a common problem. when i googled the problem, there were so many hits, i knew it had to be a recall item but it is not. also, the tow service said he was certain there was a recall based on the number of chargers he picks up with the same problem. i haven't been able to find a recall for this item but based on the number of failures, it appears there should be. the dealer has replaced the gear shifter.

The problem with my car usually happens when i am entering an express-way for example or passing another car, and consequently having to accelerate rapidly, but then if i take my foot off the gas, say, to slow down or step on the breaks, the car will stall, and this is every time. i am not talking here of a suituation of red-lining, just every-day normal driving. if i am accelerating, say in the 3000 rpm range, and then take my foot off the gas for whatever reason, the car will jerk and basically the transmission will disengage from the engine speed. when this happens, i get no response from the accelerator. the engine will still be running and every thing else will be ok, except accelerating. usually, when i get no response from the accelerator, i let the car coast until the speed is somewhere about 20 mph and the transmission will re-engage and i can proceed. the problem i am describing has been happening since the car was new. i have talked with the service rep at a local dodge dealership and he of cause down-plays the problem, but its only a matter of time before another car will slams into my vehicle, because my car stalls on the highway expecially a portion of the road that may not have a pull-off sholder. i hope you can take this complaint seriously. i know a lot about cars and i can say with some degree of certaintly that my car has a defective transmission. it is not normal for a transmission to cease reaponding simply because a driver takes their foot off the gas in the mist of a hard acceleration. *cn

Brakes have locked up x3. vehicle almost skidded into the back of another vehicle @ 40mph. afraid to drive vehicle. had it checked out by dealership & repair shop, nothing wrong. repair shop did note brake squeak and vehicle shaking even at low mph during test drive- he had just put new rotor and brake pads less than 3mnths ago! vehicle also has a noticeable 'kick' or 'jarring' when driving- even at 5-10mph in parking lot when accelerator pedal is not even pressed. i am very afraid to drive this car especially w/my child. this is my only vehicle and as a single mother and educator -safety, security, and reliability is important. *tr

Please help me prevent accidents and/or fatalities that will result from chrysler's refusal to address a dangerous situation. recently my 2006 dodge charger began stalling, numerous time, with the steering locking sometimes at a high rate of speed on a busy highway. a potentially disastrous situation for everyone on the road. my car's been towed to the dealer three times and the problem remains a mystery to the technicians. they've changed the powertrain control module (pcm), with no change. the car continues to intermittently register

I have a 2006 charger r/t with approx 80k miles. i went into the dealer for an oil change and they said my transmission was leaking. i asked if it was serious and the advisor told me it happens all the time on chargers like mine. what makes it worse is that there is no dipstick to monitor your transmission fluid level. it seems a little odd that a seal would wear out in less than 3 years. chrysler should recall this for safety reasons. *tr

I received a safety recall for my state highway patrol car. when i took it to my local dealer they would not work on it and stated they didn't know anything about it. 2 of my other partners had the same problem with the same dealership. i contacted another dealership 50 miles away and they had the recall fixed the next day. my other 2 partners went to this dealership 50 miles away and had the recall fixed quickly also. this local dealership also has not performed 1 other bulletin on this same patrol car which resulted in the item being fixed by a dealership in another state. *tr

06 dodge charger with 33,000 miles. car has began to violently shake and engine light will begin blinking while almost stopped at a stop light or fully stopped. i have to shut the car off stopped at an intersection for a short time and then restart to get out of the intersection. i do not see how this can possible be safe for my passengers(3 & 7 yr old), myself or other cars. this has occurred 4 times since may 2008. the dealership has replaced oxygen sensor, flashed the powertrain control module (saying lost communication with steering control module), and on july 29th replaced the powertrain control module. had car back a few days and backed out of a parking space, put car in drive and pushing the accelerator did nothing. after a few seconds the accelerator worked & i moved about 10 feet. the car started shaking violently/engine light began blinking and i had to shut the car off. fortunately, no one was around me this time. when i restarted the car, the engine light stayed on constant(not blinking), which i have been told over & over by the dealership is safe to drive. i was able to drive the 2 miles home. took car into dealership again on aug 4, 2008. was told this time that there is a tsb & they have to order parts. but to pick it up until the parts come in that it is safe to drive. *tr the consumer was told the vehicle had an evaporation leak. there were times when the vehicle would not accelerate, the engine light and esp/bas light illuminated. the dealer then stated the cause of the problem was a multi-cylinder misfire at cylinders 2-4. updated 10/09/08. *jb

I have owned my 2006 dodge charger v6 3.5l ho, for almost 2 years now and in that time the car has had the same problems that the dealers can't fix or even know what to do. i would go to start the car and it would crank up, turn over then cut back off. it would do that about three times before starting after i turn the radio off. it has also had about a 30 second pause when starting the car, in which there would be no engine cranking, no noise... just the dashboard lights and nothing else. i had to turn the key three times before i got it to start. the absolute worst is the car idles down like it wants to shut off while stopped in everyday traffic not to mention the previous 2 i stated before, happens in spurts. its been back to the dealership several times and i was told that the computer was returning no codes so they don't know what the problem is. they have tested the battery, ignition and they were all fine. *tr

I purchased a 2006 dodge charger brand new in march 2006. ever since then there has been problems. i have taken the car to the local dodge dealership where the car was purchased. i had been experiencing problems with the brakes not stopping and squeaking and the fact that i could be accelerating up to about 20-30mph and the car would not go any further. the car is showing signs of transmission problems. these problems lead me to the dealership which was where the car was purchased. the service department said i needed brake pads and nothing else was wrong, which i got brake pads from a different business. the car still continues to do the same thing with the problems with the transmission and the brakes. i see there was no results with going to the dealer so i contacted the corporate chrysler customer assistance # and they advised me to take the car back for a diagnosis, i advised them that i previously done that and there was nothing found. they told me there was nothing they could do because the dealer would need to recognize the problem. *tr

My 2006 dodge charger started leaking transmission fluid. i took it to the dealership, where they told me the problem was some plug that goes into the transmission pan. the service advisor diagnosed the problem without even looking under the car, because he said there had other vehicles in for repair for the same problem. i dropped the car off the following monday for repair. the receipt states that they replaced an o-ring and bushings. it cost me a little over $153, not overly expensive for what could have been a major problem had the leak not been detected and more fluid lost. i checked in on a forum over the web and noticed other owners of the same vehicle having the same problem. i wanted to know why no recall has been filed for this. have there not been any other complaints concerning this? *tr

Well yesterday evening. i was merging onto the interstate and all of a sudden the transmission slipped and the car was just revving while still in drive. if there were any oncoming traffic i could off gotten into an accident. i don't drive the car hard, definitely don't race. why would something happen like this? it is pretty much a brand new car which i keep up the scheduled maintenance. is there going to be a recall on this equipment because this could cause serious accident. i've read a few different forums on this vehicle and there are others that are having the same problem of the transmission slipping out of gear or hesitating to go into gear. so this isn't just a one time thing. i lost some of the pride in having this certain vehicle. from my knowledge the same transmission were offered in the older e class mercedes benz and they too had similar problem. *nm

I am about to file a lemon law complaint because dodge has been unable to duplicate the most serious problems that have plagued my vehicle, a 2006 dodge charger r/t, since day four of my ownership. i have owned this car for 68 days and of those, i have only been able to drive the functioning car for 19 days. they have fixed a number of minor issues and notified me that they would be unable to fix or do not know how to fix at this time, some minor issues including the air conditioning compressor problems (which they say they have also been unable to duplicate. the serious issues that are occurring when it idles, when it accelerates and with what seems to be the suspension and possibly both the engine and transmission. of those 68 days, they have come to pick up my car on three different occasions to try and fix it, the last time (which continues currently) they have had my car for four weeks. i happen to know (upon researching after the prolonged period they have had the car) that tsb's or technical service bulletins have been issued for every problem that is occurring with my car. additionally, i have taken my car to two different mechanics (one dodge dealership and one independent mechanic) that have witnessed these malfunctions. i would like to know what my options are legally for getting some kind of resolution. *jb

Purchased july 14, 2006. it ran great with no problems until july 26. i went to take a left out of my company's parking lot and the car sputtered and would accelerate fast. i had to pull off on the left side of the road to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. i put it in neutral and gave it some gas. i attempted to go again when the traffic was clear and it sputtered more until i gave it a lot of gas and then it drove fine. i though it was an isolated incident so i drove it home. that night my wife, son and i took the car to the mall. upon leaving the mall it did it again and the engine light was on. the dealership was still open and close by so i drove it directly there. they gave me a loaner to drive while they attempted to fix it. on august 9, they gave the vehicle back to me. that night it did it again, except the vehicle actually died on me in the middle of traffic. the next day it was back to the dealer where is sat for 37 days while they tried to figure out what was wrong. they replaced all the oxygen sensors, the power control module, the wiring harnesses and i am sure there were some other things. they test drove it for 9 key cycles and 250 miles and were 98% confident they fixed it so i got the car back on september 15. the next day the same problem returned and i was 50 miles from home and this time the idling of the car was so rough that the car was visibly shaking. i had a friend follow me home and since it was a saturday night, the dealership was not open and would not be until monday. monday morning i started the car up and let it idle 5 minutes before leaving. when i got in, it was idling rough again and the engine light was flashing. i shut it down, called a tow truck and it is back at the dealership where it will stay because i am not taking it back. i have requested vehicle replacement from chrysler and the dealership. now here i am 5 days later and there is still no answer as to when i will get a new vehicle. *nm
