After fueling my 2006 dodge charger r/t, the car will begin to sputter and completely shut-off. this results in the loss of power steering and having to put the car into park in order to restart. it will occur multiple times, sometimes while idling, before it will begin to act normally.it has been happening for several months. at first, it was sporadic but now it is everytime i fill up the gas tank. it can be very dangerous as it can happen anytime and without warning. *tr

I bought my 2006 dodge charger r/t brand new in june of 2006. i always filled the tank with gas until the pump automatically shutoff. i never topped off with gas or continued filling the tank once the pump would automatically stop. this was never a problem for 5 years. last year in october of 2011 at around 73,000 miles the car would stall and turn off the engine occasionally right after filling up in live traffic usually at a stop light or parking lot driveway. i would have to put the transmission shifter from drive to park since the vehicle shut off and restart the car with no problem. today at 75,600 miles on march 27, 2012; i filled up as usual and the car engine turned off in traffic on 3 different occasions. i read on chrysler owners' forums online this is a common problem with plenty of chrysler vehicles and chrysler is aware of it. the fix is a whole new fuel tank with a better fuel vapor valve and the cost would run $1300-$2000 for various car, van, and truck owners. the only other method i was advised by a dodge service advisor was not to fill the car up all the way, perhaps to 3/4 of a tank full. this is dangerous for any driver when a car engine stops, steering locks, and there is traffic behind you. some drivers will not know how to react in this situation. chrysler should offer a recall to fix this problem with the gas tank instead of charging the owner.

The problem started when i bought it brand new and kept bringing back to the dealer. failure to find problem. notice a lot of other customers having the same problem. brought car to an expert and found the suspension which includes shocks, struts, brakes etc. were not the right part for this model. expert changed necessary parts and have not had a problem there after. expert did research and dealer wanted to know what he did to fix it and he would not comply. they should do the research and fix the problem. i hope everyone files a complaint and i would tell dodge they fix it or i will file a defect lawsuit for complete refund of a $42,000 car plus inconvenience.

At certain speeds my vehicle will vibrate. going over speed bumps or into even the slightest pot hole the vehicle will vibrate. when slowing down or coming to a stop the front end will vibrate. took the vehicle to the dealership and they advised my front tires needed to be changed and/or rotated to the back due to an unusual wearing on the tires. the wear was on the outisde of the tires. when took the vehicle back into chrysler dodge jeep dealer service department they advised i will probably soon be needing new tire rod ends and this is what may have caused my front tires to wear so easily. especially purchasing the car used in july 2010 with all brand new tires and now needing to replace all four and its only december 2011. service department manager advised this was a big issue with the early model chargers but chrysler still has yet to issue a recall. i prolonged taking the vehicle in to purchase new tire rods. i went in recently for an oil change and the service manager advised me i no longer need to be driving my vehicle with the rods i have on. it was a recommendation earlier but now he is highly advising me not to drive. within 3 oil changes the rods have diminished greatly. something needs to be done chrysler is letting the purchasers take the butt-end of this issue.

At 18,500 we had to replace the left front outer tie rod end. now at 33,000 we are being told the same thing. i have on line and see that there are quite a few others with this same problem. this is a serious issue and would like something done as far as a review or something. one gentleman was going 55 mph when his broke and they crashed. i dont want this to be me nor do we have over $400 to put towards this car every 15k miles.

I have taken my car to the dealership 5 times to have issues fixed. each time i got the car back, it was worse. i had 13 issues originally with the car. i ended up suing, and got a very small settlement- dodge refused to cooperate. i still have each and every problem, and do not know what else to do. my car dies while in reverse, the brakes malfunction constantly, the window panel remains broken due to their inept work, the radio cuts off, the dash lights die @ night, etc. i would truly appreciate it if someone could actually help me. i do not know what else to do. i love my car dearly, but something needs to be done. the date i put as date of incident is when this all started. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the current mileage on the vehicle is 15,500. when driving 60 mph or higher the entire vehicle vibrates. the vehicle had been taken to the dealer for this reason; however the dealer had been unable to duplicate the problem. the contact did not want to guess the failure mileage.

I am about to file a lemon law complaint because dodge has been unable to duplicate the most serious problems that have plagued my vehicle, a 2006 dodge charger r/t, since day four of my ownership. i have owned this car for 68 days and of those, i have only been able to drive the functioning car for 19 days. they have fixed a number of minor issues and notified me that they would be unable to fix or do not know how to fix at this time, some minor issues including the air conditioning compressor problems (which they say they have also been unable to duplicate. the serious issues that are occurring when it idles, when it accelerates and with what seems to be the suspension and possibly both the engine and transmission. of those 68 days, they have come to pick up my car on three different occasions to try and fix it, the last time (which continues currently) they have had my car for four weeks. i happen to know (upon researching after the prolonged period they have had the car) that tsb's or technical service bulletins have been issued for every problem that is occurring with my car. additionally, i have taken my car to two different mechanics (one dodge dealership and one independent mechanic) that have witnessed these malfunctions. i would like to know what my options are legally for getting some kind of resolution. *jb

I have a 2006 dodge charger with 47,000 miles on it. when i went to my mechanic to have the tires rotated (goodyear), they advised me that the steering tie rod (rt side) was so badly worn they did not even want me to drive it home ( i have saved the part). it is a sealed unit and should not need any lubrication other than what was initially designed into the part. obviously if one loses steering ability at speed the consequences could be significant. interestingly, the mechanic told me that i got the last one available in the milwaukee area. it makes me wonder if all the others were used for a similar replacement defect and/or it is being redesigned. *tr

In the last 2 months my son had mentioned to me that he thought my charger might be having a transmission problem. i had also noticed and mentioned it to the service department when i had my oil changed and tires rotated. they checked the fluids, etc, but found nothing of concern. on tuesday, nov 27, 2007 i drove about 60 miles to cincinnati for a doctor's appointment and to take an elderly friend to lunch. after i arrived with in the 275 by-pass loop i traveled mostly on local roads at speeds of 30-45 pmh. when returning my friend to her apartment for some reason i did not hop in the freeway, which i usually do. i took a cross cut road that i had not taken for over a year. as i pulled into the apartment parking space the car seemed to be straining as if the brake were on. when i backed up to leave, the car barely moved. i got out and walked around the car but saw nothing unusual. i again tried to back out with the same difficulty. i then decided i would drive the car around the parking lot before i attempted to drive on the highway. when i again backed up there was a clang. this time when i walked around the car the right front tire was at a sharp angle but the other three tires were not. i looked under the car behind this wheel and saw the problem. the tie rod was hanging down on the asphalt. i did not move the car again and immediately called for a tow truck from my home town. when checked, it was determined that the connector for the tie rod (to the wheel) had worn down. the other front wheel was checked and the same wear was found. i had both replaced and have the two damaged tie rods. needless to say, i was very relieved that i was not driving at a high speed. because my car is a 2006, this seems to be an unusual situation. it could explain why i had to replace all 4 tires at around 34,000 miles. hopefully this was just a fluke, but i felt it was important to report in case this is a product defect. *tr
