In a november 5, 2008 letter, chrysler submitted a defect information report describing a defect condition that could result in prndl misalignment (i.e., incorrect gear indication) in approximately 20,300 model year (my) 2006 through 2009 dodge charger and magnum police vehicles built from may 17, 2005 through october 21, 2008 (nhtsa recall no. 08v-583, chrysler recall h37).according to chrysler, the gearshift cable may become disengaged from the steering column mounting bracket and cause an incorrect transmission gearshift position display.this could allow the vehicle to move inadvertently and cause a crash without warning.chrysler dealers will remedy the defect condition by installing a redundant locking mechanism to the gearshift cable and the mounting bracket to ensure proper retention and shift linkage function. chrysler uses a unique column shifter in these police vehicles.after pe08-052 was opened, chrysler inspected a my 2009 police vehicle and noted that though the gearshift cable appeared fully seated into the steering column mounting bracket, the cable retention feature (locking pin) was not fully seated.chrysler subsequently determined that if the retention feature is not fully seated, the cable may disengage from the mounting bracket, resulting in the shift linkage system not functioning to design intent with the potential for incorrect gear position indication via the prndl display.chysler's inspection of 59 my 2009 dodge charger and magnum police vehicles in september and october found 30 where the gearshift cable was not fully engaged to the mounting bracket.there are no reported crashes or injuries related to the defect condition to date. this investigation is closed.

I have a 2008 dodge charger, which has had several electrical problems to occur since i purchased the vehicle in aug., 2008. 2 of the problems could have cause serious injury if i had wrecked when the sterring wheel locked or just the other day the fan blade motors locked up and bursted my radiaotr. this vehicle is too new to have so many defects, especiall linking to electrical matters that are not recognized by the power-train warranty, which i feel should have all been covered the the warranty. after reading http://www.daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com/, i wish this was brought to my attention before making the decision on this dodge vehicle. the car has several years before being paid off, but i am now terrified to continue driving this vehicle knowing anything, unplainable can happen at anytime. something needs to be done about dodge, chrysler, jeep for putting people's lives in danger.

2008 dodge charger se plus 3.5ho shortly after purchasing this vehicle i noticed a very bad shake/shudder/stutter when the vehicle was shifting, mainly from first to second gear, which results in power loss. i have taken it to various dealerships numerous times. one dealership told me that they could not duplicate the symptom, and that it was performing as designed. another dealership stated that they know exactly what i am taking about, but that dodge had not come up with a fix for it yet, and they did not know when they would. i see this as a safety issue, and this should be corrected asap. *tr

I purchased this car on august 4 2008. initially, when i test drove the vehicle, the car would mildly vibrate on a complete stop. i told the sales representative about the problem and we both agreed it might have been a minor issue. he stated the problem will be corrected prior to purchasing the vehicle. i did not think nothing of the issue. the day i purchased the vehicle the sales representative stated that the problem was corrected through the maintenance department. one week later, the check engine lighted up on a saturday morning prior to me going to work. i drove to work with the light on with no others problems. after arriving at work, i called the dealership requesting a appointment at earliest tuesday morning. on that tuesday morning, the maintenance representative suggested that the engine sensor revealed flex plate also that i should leave the vehicle with him for arrival of the part the following day. i agreed and waited for two days. on friday morning, august 15 2008, i picked up my vehicle under the assumption everything was okay. after signing the maintenance invoice, i noticed the technical name of the problem was a flywheel. i felt a little misled. later, that afternoon, the check engine flickered on and off for a few minutes and the vehicle started vibrating very hard when stopping or slowing down. *tr

Reached for drink, knocked gearshift (automatic) into neutral. wheels locked up. was going 70 mph on i-10 near baton rouge. spun sideways, looking at white line, thru driver's window sideways down a busy highway, at night . put back in neutral, car straightened out. pulled to shoulder. waited for heart to return to normal. had seat cleaned the next day. could have been killed, due to 'driver's loss of control'. no one would have ever known what caused the wreck. how many have died this way?.

I bought my 08 charger 3.5l v6 in jan of 08. only weeks after i noticed that it shifts hard on the very first shift of the day when it goes from 1st to 2nd. after that it shifts fine. i have had it to the shop 3 times. twice they uploaded a new computer program. it didn't help. the last time they claim to have replaced all of the seals in the transmission. that didn't fix it either. i have just given up nut i am considering filing a lemon law claim. figured with them being in the trouble they are it wouldn't really get me anywhere. nice car overall, just poor power train! *tr

The ohio state highway patrol reports that the transmission shift cable on 2 of the 20, 2008 dodge charger police cruisers it is evaluating was found to be detached from its mounting bracket. this caused the miss-alignment between the prndl and the transmission which could cause the vehicle to still be in drive when the prndl indicates park.
