 The steering in my 2001 dakota quad-cab has become very stiff to turn. it comes and goes, but concerns me since my wife sometimes drives my truck and i'm not sure if she could turn the wheel if she needed to in an emergency situation. i've done some research and found that the intermediate shaft is the culprit. this is a safety hazard and should be recalled. *tr

 Intermediate shaft on the steering column nearest the steering box has universal joint that failed. caused intermittent stickiness in steering, before joint completely failed. *tr

 I would like to know why the 4x2 dakota's are not covered by the recall. my 2001 rt has always made a poping sound when making sharp turns and is starting to wander and pull to the left. this truck has been very hard on tires. last time in, dealer said everything was fine. of course that was just before the warranty expired. all dakotas should be covered by this recall, not just the 4x4 models.*ak

 Tl*the contact owns a 2001 dodge dakota. while driving 15 mph, the horn and cruise control failed. the contact stated that the air bag light and o/d light remained illuminated on the instrument panel. the dealer stated that the cause of failure was the steering column and suggested that a dodge dealer make the repair. the vehicle has not been repaired. the current mileage was 176,225 and failure mileage was 175,725.

 I ben having a problem with a number of front suspension and especially front brake problems which began about four months after purchase of the vehicle. the dealership absolutely refuses to investigate my problems. i nearly lost control of my vehicle at high speed on two different occasions. if there had been heavy traffic it would have resulted in a crash. i am about o replace my third set of front brake pads as they are unevenly wearing on the rotors. i have vibration in the front end constantly, and at 30 mph and above heavy sound of clunking.

 The steering was loose when consumer purchased the vehicle. after three trips to the mechanic and five possible reasons for the noise, the dealer replaced the steering column. the part was repaired but the vehicle continued to experience looseness on occasions. *ph *nlm

 While backing up heard a loud pop, and was unable to turn steering wheel. had vehicle serviced, and was informed that steering shaft broke.prior to incident,when going forward or reversing there will be a shutter.*ak

 2001 dodge dakota slipped out of park into reverse gear and was circling out of control.*mr the vehicle eventually struck a concrete median and stopped. the driveshaft and other parts under the vehicle were damaged. this wasn't the first time the gear selector jumped out of gear. this vehicle was previously taken to maroone/dodge service center to have the transmission checked where it sat to this day. consumer stated it was a mechanical problem since they complained about this. they haven't obtained no information on their vehicle since it was towed to the repair shop. the a/c only worked on high due to a faulty blower motor resistor. the power steering made noise intermittently. the gas cap was loose which caused the check engine light to illuminate. the driver seat handle came apart *ph *nlm

 The consumer stated the brake rotors were wearing and when the brakes were applied, there was heavy vibration and extended stopping distance. the dealer was notified. *ak the power steering unit had broken and the rotors and drums were badly warped. *scc *jb

 Nhtsa campaign 04v596000; daimler chrysler issued an upper ball joint recall. this vehicle was included in the recall, but when taken in for repair, results showed that the lower ball joints needed to be replaced as well.*ak also, inner tie rod wore out, failed state inspection due to excessive wear. sideto side play in tire when jocke dup. dealership stated this was a common problem. *ak

 While vehicle was being parked in reverse unexpectedly consumer was not able to steer or move vehicle. consumer stepped out to look at front wheels and noticed that each wheel was facing in different directions. consumer was informed that the tie rod broke off.*ak this vehicle had been to the dealer twice for inspection twice, was told by dealer there wa sno way to tell if tie rods were defective due to rust. *ak

 Front end vibration at 65mph. have replaced almost every component in the front end, including rack and pinion. the vibration has not gone away and the dealership blames the tire company, and the tire company blames the dealership.*ak

 While driving at a low speed, the inner tie rod end came out of the socket and the front driver side tire turned to the left. this resulted in vehicle crashing into a concrete phylum. the inner tie rod , front lower ball joint, fender, bumper, blinker and rim needed to be replaced. also when making a sharp right turn driver's side inside rim was rubbing against something underneath the vehicle. dealership was not willing to replace any component until they were able to duplicate the failure.*ak

 I feel that the problem with the front brakes has to do with the new all wheel drive system. the transmission problem is very scary because sometimes it takes a few seconds to down shift and that may lead me into haveing an accident. the seat is a big comfort issue seeing that is where you sit to drive. the engine idle makes me feel like the truck is going to stall out and i will have to restart it not good if you are sitting in a line of moveing cars

 While traveling between 55 and 60 mph vehicle hit a pothole . consumer stated tire went flat. upon examination, consumer noticed that left front tie rod had bent. dealership informed consumer this part was not covered under warranty, and will cost approximatley $1200.00 to repair. please provide any additional information/attachments.*ak

 Problems with vehicle's steering column. *mr the consumer always noticed a slack or a looseness in the steering . the vehicle also developed a noise. the input shaft seal was dried at the rack and pinion and the dust cover was removed to the input shaft and the seal was pulled back. *scc *jb
 Consumer called complaining about having problems with the steering . also stated that the vehicle will have a squeaking noise and this happens when he is about to pull into a parking space or when he is backing out. dealer was contacted and stated that there is a little noise biut that is normal also found tsb and but said that did not apply to the vehicle but the shop still fixed it. consumer also stated that the noise still there.ts

 Shift lever will go into any gear without pressing the brake down. sometimes shifter indicates vehicle is in drive when it's really in reverse, drivers feels this is very unsafe. dealer has not found a solution. *ak shifter pops out of drive or reverse, steering wheel does not lock when key is removed from switch, dealer serviced 5 times. *tt
