Tl*the contact leased a 2005 dodge dakota. when attempting to slow down or stop at any speed, the vehicle suddenly shuts down. the most recent failure occurred while driving 15 mph. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the manufacturer will not authorize the dealer to replace any parts since the diagnostic test did not provide an error code. the failure mileage was 9,000 and current mileage was 16,000.

2005 dodge dakota quad cab v8 2wd. vehicle has been to original dealer 3-4 times. once to replace the rear brakes under a recall. at least 2-3 times to fix a rough idle and a miss at light throttle cruising speed. original dealer called it a fish bite. is that a technical term i missed? another called it beaming. i guess these are technical terms learned at big city dealer school. driving at speeds from 25-85 mph truck seems to run rough. and also seems to have lost some power. mpg has gone from 18.5 to 15. have been told everytime we reset the computer, nothing is wrong, ergo it is fixed. not finding a problem is not fixing it. truck still runs rough at highway speed. have also been told this is normal. they all do that. funny how this has just come about in the past 3-4 weeks. but at least the brake problem has not come back. at least one other dealer is willing to look at it again and try to help. original dealer has offered nothing. i really, really, really hate this truck. *nm

I have been trying to get chrysler to fix the vibration/or wobbling sensation in my 05 dodge dakota since october. they did replace the axles but the truck still vibrates. they will not work on my truck- they say everything is normal and i disagree. i believe there are safety issues here. my 3.7 v6 engine has a lower engine knock at slow idles. they refuse to acknowledge the sound or say it is normal. i have been to the dealership several times and had to finally hire a lawyer for advice. i have also had problems with my heater not working and transmission/rear end making unexplained noises. i'm very frustrated and disappointed with the truck and how chrysler is handling the situation. *jb

I used my dodge dakota quad cab to pull my 5,000 lb travel trailer on vacation at the time. the truck was very unstable and unsafe while pulling the trailer to and from pigeon forge, tennessee. the engine is a 4.7 v8 rated at 230 hp and 290 lb ft. torque. i purchased the towing option package with the truck. it is suppose to be rated for 7,000 lbs. daimler chrysler falsified the towing ability of this engine / transmission set up by overstating its towing capability. i base my accusation on the fact that chrysler retooled this 4.7 v8 engine for 2008. it is now rated at 302 hp and 329 lb ft. torque yet still its maximum towing capability is still rated at 7,000. common sense would dictate that improved engine should make it possible to tow more weight since it now has more horsepower and more torque. there are thousands of these trucks on the highway that may be towing an unsafe amount of weight since chrsyler overstated the towing ability of the 2005 trucks with the 4.7 v8. i have had my truck in the shop four times for repairs and their only solution is to tow less weight. i believe their overstatement of the towing ability of the vehicle warrants a government investigation for safety reasons before someone gets injured or killed. the manufacturer was unable to fix the problem and the truck has been sitting in my yard for the past 2 years. *tr

During stops the rpms on my 2005 dakota will go erratic. the rpms will go from a few hundred to over 3000. the vehicle will stall and has to be put into park and restarted. no service engine light will ever come on. i have had it at the dealership were i purchased the vehicle 3 time for this problem and they can find nothing wrong with the it. the last time i took it in to have this problem it stalled in traffic that same day i was told they could not find any problem with my truck. this is just one of several issues i have had with this truck that the dealership could not find a problem. *nm

At random, my vehicle will shut off or die causing me to loose the ability to steer. it can stall while waiting at a stop light, or turning left. most recently it stalled while i was turning left and i almost hit a parked car since i had no steering. this has happened about 12 times. one time it happened 3 times in one day. i have brought it to the shop and they could not find anything wrong with it. its seems to stall after i was stopped and waiting or when i decelerate. *nm

Dt: the contact owns a 2005 dodge dakota laramie. the contact stated when it rains water is sucked up through the air intake and forced to the back of the engine, causing it to go into the pistons. there was no place for the water to go so it broke the number five piston. the consumer will have to cover the expense of having the vehicle repaired because the repair will not be covered under the warranty. the dealership will have to pull the head and replace the number five piston. the contact stated while driving the engine light came on, and the vehicle started missing.*ak

We bought a new 2005 dodge dakota quad cab v-6 from magnussens in aburn california. when parking from our return trip 200 miles away we noticed a rubbing noise, almost as if the tires are rubbing. made an appointment with the dodge dealership in our area for july 19th. they inspected the truck and said that the serpentine belt and tensioner would have to be replaced. this, if not fixed could cause lose of power steering, ac etc. as stated in the owners manually. however, they could not perform the work until they called chrysler corp and get authorization. this took 1 week. i called magnussens of auburn to let them know. did not get a follow up. didn't even get the report card on the business the were so anxious for us to get and fill out regarding there service. sport chrysler repaired the truck. also at this time the brake lines were adjusted the brake hoses were extremely tight, this could cause the brake lines to abrupt. see other complaint regarding rotors, and suspension. *** wc
