| I have taken my 2000 dodge durango to forest lake dodge dealer for a clunking noise in my front end over year ago. i had a number of complaints. they said at that time there was nothing wrong. they couldn't hear anything. again within a couple months i returned with the same problem along with my passenger window not going up or down correctly. once again they said oh you need shocks and you need your service of warrenty proformed or your warrently wont be any good, so i said yes do what is under warrenty nothing else unless i say it ok, will more work was proformed and i ended up paying hundred plus dollars out of pocket. again they said there was no clucking noise noted and that the passenger window according to the computer said it functions correctly. will to this day over a year later, the cluck is there and shocks and other maintence was completed, the passenger window moves so slow that we dont use it as it has and still does quit working. inside where the 4 wheel drive compotent also comes loose from the main floor. i was told that i would have to purchase a new manto which screws to the frame of the durango. i had side steps put on after purchase by chry. dodge in forrest lake and drivers side within in one and half years fell loose and they said i just needed to have someone put in new screws that it wasn;t covered. yet when i purchased them they said that if they did it, anything that may happen would be covered but if someone else did it they wouldnt cover anything that happened.*ak | |||

| I bought this car new. i am the only one who drives it and i have used synthetic oil the entire time. i have always taken care of it. i was on the off ramp of i-85 when it just stopped. it was smoking and then the oil light came on. i got out of the car because it was in a dangerous place on the off ramp and oil was spilling out of the bottom. we had to get the car towed. the mechanic said that it had two cracked heads. if i had been on the interstate when this happened i would have been seriously injured or killed. i am extremely upset about this and i have called chrysler and registered a complaint because i have found out about all the serious problems with the 2.7 liter engine. chrysler says there is nothing wrong with this engine or they would have issued a recall. every parts person, mechanic, dealership, etc. that i have talked to have mentioned the problems with this engine. it seems as if everyone knows there is a problem but chrysler. they asked if i had all the records from every time that i have ever had the oil changed. this is not something i would think about keeping. i don't think they would have done anything even if i had the records. they just wanted to make sure i didn't have any proof. this is going to be very costly to get fixed and if i put the same kind of engine in, i am looking at the same problems. it seems at this point that i may have to just trash the car and lose whatever worth it had left in it. i will never buy another dodge car because chrysler does not stand behind their mistakes. somebody needs to investigate this situation in depth. a lot of innocent people are being put in an extremely difficult financial position because of chrysler. please do something about this before someone gets hurt really bad in one of these cars. *tr | |||

| We purchased our 2000 dodge intrepid 2.7l with 92,936 miles. it seems as though once we hit 100,000 miles then the car turned to junk. a blown engine! we've been around and around with our ohio attorney generals office and daimler chrysler with no luck! several different mechanics have told us that after 100,000 miles the intrepid is junk! we can't even purchase a new engine because the junk yard has been out of them and can't keep them in stock because of high demand and even the dealership said that there is a back log of orders for engines. now if this doesn't tell you there's a problem, i don't know what does. the last mechanic said he was pretty sure there was a class action lawsuit taking place in regards to the 2.7 l engines. if you have any information, we'd appreciate it. | |||

| I was driving down the 405 (8 lane highway in los angeles) and my chrysler intrepid with 45,000 miles on it blew up! i had to merge through 5 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder of the road. i realized i wasn't in a very good neighborhood and when i was looking for help i was approached by what appeared to be a gang and they took all my money and threw me to the ground. after all of this i find out there's nothing i can do because the engine is blown to oil sludge! i just purchases the car 2 months ago and it only has 45,000 miles on it! plus i was almost killed merging through traffic and then by a gang! chrysler is only going to get someone killed by ignoring this obvious problem. something needs to be done. *nm | |||

| I noticed there was a funny noise coming from the engine, i then informed my husband and he contacted a mechanic to come to the house, the mechanic did a diagnostic check on the engine and found nothing wrong. well, on my way back from lunch (september 2004) the engine started to make a loud noise and the car was beginning to lose power. i took it to a mechanic and he took the engine apart and found sludge build up in the engine, which eventually led up to engine failure. i religiously had the oil changed and even had a master mechanic do a diagnostic check on the engine before the failure. i have been without my car since september 2004 and i am still making payment. i am having my car repaired for an outrageous amount of money and will be able to drive it again in a couple more week. have a wonderful day! regards, rita cantu, initial security admin. *jb | |||

| I pressed the accelerator to pass someone and the car didn't sound quite right afterwards. it was due to have the oil changed and did so regularly from the beginning of the car when i bought it brand new in 2000. the technician said that when he changed the oil there was sludge build up. so i put a oil treatment in to see if it would help. i ran my car for less than a week after that and as i was driving to into work my car starting knocking very loud. right now i am looking at a possible $500 to $4800 fix. my car has almost 100,000 miles on it and almost paid off. my engine is the 2.7 dodge intrepid. as i found out that my engine one of the worst on the market. there aren't very many of the engines left in the junk yards even. my mechanic said he is putting in the second engine in a couples car from last year. the 2.7 is junk. *jb | |||

| Winding sound when you lock or unlock the doors. drivers door won't lock, passenger front door dosn't unlock, passenger left-rear also dosn't unlock , passenger right-rear is the only one that works with the key less entry.*ak also both rear windows do not work. i myself inspected the operation of the left rear door and found that the actuator was bad. i cracked open actuator and found that the gear was stripped. this causing the winding sound and failure to lock or unlock the doors. the gear is made of some kind of soft plastic material for this to happen. about the rear window, i checked and found power going to the motors. but with one of the window motors i tapped it and got it to work for acouple of days. with my experince as an auto/truck/bus technician the motors are defected along with the door actuators. i hope these issues can get resolved, because overall my vehicle is good at 60,000 miles. | |||

| Sent the following complaint to daimlerchrysler: power lock failure on driver and passenger doors, know of same exact issue with another 2000 dodge durango owner. dc response: i regret your dissatisfaction and appreciate the time and effort you took to bring this matter to my attention. comments like yours are one way to learn of problems that may develop and improvements desired by customers. the information received is used in product development and quality analysis. unfortunately, we are unable to offer assistance in this matter as the vehicle has exceeded the time and mileage limitations of the manufacturer's warranty. i also see that you do not have a service contract for coverage. my response: in regard to your reply, this does not satisfy me. it sounds as though you really don't care.... you did state: improvements desired by customers. the information received is used in product development and quality analysis... well, this is something i want improved on the vehicle that i now have. is there any way to appeal this? what is the process i need to go through to get this taken care of? please do not reiterate the lack of warranty. dc reply: i received your email. i regret that you were not satisfied by my prior email and have documented your feedback. unfortunately, your email does not contain any information that would cause a change in the previous decision. therefore, your request must again be respectfully declined. we also do not have an appeal process and this is the final decision of daimlerchrysler. any future communication related to this issue will be retained in corporate records. if at some future date we can be of assistance to you, in some other area, please let us know. | |||

| I have a check engine light on my dash board. i took the car into the dealership and they ran a diagnostic test on the car and it indicate that the diagnostic test dtl for the torque convertor clutch circuit failure intfrmal, recommend o/h transmission. i was advised of the problem. my issue is that the car is a 2000 model and has 44,500 miles on it and the car has a transmission problem already. there is no noise or feeling of the acceleration or change of gear problems. why have transmission problems this early in the car life. | |||

| I have had my front brakes repaired 3 times in the last 6 months and the are out again my grand caravan only has 67,000 miles and is a 2000 i also have to repair my ingnition on some thing because it does not kick over and i replaced the relay fuse and thats not the problem. i should not be having these problems out of such a new car thats not droven that much. i also have to get the rear brakes done because there going out to. please help. thank you ms udarbe | |||

| Front disc brake caliber, piston is made of a composite and not metal,composite cracks and leaks. the piston turns to mush and the brake pad becomes loose. *jb this cause the vehicle to pulse when applying the brakes. was brought back to dealer and finally replaced under warranty. two years later the same thing has happened, but the vehicle is not under warranty any more. 04/23/02 was the first time, 12/04/04 found the same problem again | |||

| I owned 2000 dodge intrepid 3.2l vehicle(mileage-106000). steering wheel lof my vehicle lost its control on wheels,while i was driving my car on i75(trying to change lane).i heard crunking sound and somehow manged to pull the vehicle to the shoulder.i towed the vehicle to maintainence shop and came to know that rack and pinion system got broke down and needs to be replaced.i was really lucky enough to be saved. how can i trust this vehicle later on,even though i replace the rack and pinion system.i found so many complaints about the same issue on this model vehicle in this website.manufacturer should be the responsible for these defects? if the government doesn't take necessary action it would leads to fatal accidents in future. | |||

| Rack & pinion was replaced 4/4/03...normal noise signaling a problem. on 4/22/05, when backing out of my garage, the rack & pinion failed again and this time both tires went different directions. if i had been on the road, i might have been killed...i had no steering at all. it was even hard to get it moved the rest of the way out of the garage to get it towed, since both tires were free spinning. the repairman at hoover chrysler said he had never seen such a failure. my husband contacted chrysler to let them know of our second rack and pinion failure and the potential life threatening situation, and their response was that we should expect problems when a car is older. we do not expect life threatening problems! *jb | |||

| I recently received a recall notice from daimlerchrysler for the upper ball joints in my 2000 dodge durango. i contacted the company to find out how to have my car fixed as there is no dealership where i live. i let them know i lived in ketchikan, alaska. the woman i spoke with told me to contact the juneau dealership as it was the closest to me. i contacted the juneau dealership who told me that he could send me the parts from juneau and i could have the labor done in ketchikan, sending him the bill for the labor, which i would be reimbursed for an allotted amount of money. i agreed, but he needed to find out if he could send me both ball joints, as i had one ball joint replaced in august of 2004, without being reimbursed by daimlerchrysler. today, august 1, 2005, the gentleman from the juneau dealership called to tell me that i should have both ball joints replaced, but that he could no longer send me the parts because daimlerchrysler had contacted him and now prohibited him from doing recalls in this fashion as it was deemed fraudulent. i directly contacted daimlerchrysler and spoke with the supervisor katherine who stated that i had to take my car to seattle or juneau to a dealership for the recall or they would not pay to fix it. i told her i lived on an island and could not afford to pay the ferry fee to do that or go without any transportation for an extended period of time. she said they could not compensate me for transportation as it was not part of the recall and that they were not responsible for my living on an island, but that i had to have the recall done because it was a safety issue. i told her i didn't want them to pay for my vehicle being transported, i just wanted them to send the parts as i had been told would happen so i could have it fixed. she stated that she had no authority to override the decision about the juneau dealership. *nm | |||

| First the 2000 pickups were suppose to come with tire size p225r75-16 but they came with size p245r75-16. at about milage 15,663. i noticed the the left front tire was rubbing when making a sharp left turn so i took it in to the dodge dealer here in plain view. they first told me that i had put oversize tires on my pick up and that is why it was rubbing. after a lot of talking and checking is when i found out the they had put oversize tires on the 2000 model 1/2 ton pickups. they sent the pickup to an shop and the pick up started pull at that time. it has been to two other alinement shops and they all say that it is within specs but pulls hard to the right. also the oversize tires do affect the speed-ometer by registering less miles per hour than you are going. dt | |||
