Driving along when seat track broke seat now travels back and forward while driving, braking or accellerating...causing my body to be pushed forward or backward. could cause an accident within itself. something needs to be done about this situation. my durango only has around 87,000 original miles an extreamlt well taken care of truck but with this problem, i fill like i am driving a broke down peice of sh.. and i love my truck. seems like i have been lucky for mine to have lasted as long.

While accelerating, heard a snap under the drivers seat. this power seat now has a rocking motion when accelerating or slowing down. checked the internet and found countless number of blogs and comments on this exact problem, with some saying their seat is actually sliding back and forth on the seat rails. this is a known problem and i cannot believe that this is not a safety issue, warranting some recall or remedy by chrysler. if this seat can slide free in a hard acceleration or emergency stop, this could create accident or severe injury. this has not been addressed by the manufacturer !

I just purchased a 1998 dodge durango with 116,000 miles. when i drove it off the dealer's lot i noticed the drivers power seat travels at least an inch back and forth when accelerating or decelerating. the dealer says this is normal for this model. the travel interferes with braking. online research indicates this is a common problem. dodge indicate the problem is a failure caused by cracks in the seat track. shouldn't the seat track be expected to last as last as the vehicle?

I own a 1998 dodge durango 5.9l that has the driver side seat bracket broken and the seat slides 1 inch or more when braking. after doing some research i find out that this is a common problem. there are several websites discussing this. this could be a major problem if an accident occurs resulting in possible fatalities. links: http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279098 http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/dodge/durango/r33777/comments/

The drivers seat rocks back and forth as if it is loose if not in the fully forward or fully rearward positions. i have seen on the internet from other dodge owners that it is due to the seat rails (or tracks) being cracked. *tr

98 dodge durango driver seat failure. the driver seat rocks unless in the extreme forward/back positions. this is an obvious design flaw that happens in a wide rang of dodge suvs/trucks. if i hit the brakes my seat slides forward causing me to unintentionally slam on my brakes. *tr

The drivers seat a slides back and forth and feels as if it is going to come off of the tracks. i see on the internet that this is a common problem, however, i talked with dodge customer care and they say they have never heard of it. this is a major safety issue if the seat bracket fails. *tr

The mechanical connection between the front cushion motor and the front of the seat failed, allowing the driver's seat to rock back and forth about 8 inches on the rear seat pivot. this rocking motion results in the lifting of the driver's foot from the brake or gas pedal, and a possible loss of vehicle control. if backing up, especially while on an incline, and the brake is applied, the seat will rock to the rear, lifting the driver's foot from the brake pedal. if the accelerator is hit too hard in drive, the foot is lifted from the accelerator, resulting in a sudden loss of vehicle control.. *ak

The lumbar support lever was activated by my husband and when activated, it sticks out beyond the driver's seat about 1/2 inch. when i got into the vehicle, my lower back hit the lever resulting in two bulged discs and a tear in the l4-s1 region on the right side. the severity of the injury has resulted in approximately $10,000 of medical bills. this is obviously a design flaw in that a lumbar support lever should not be in the pathway of one's back when entering the vehicle.*ak

The bracket that holds the drivers seat down is made out of plastic and it broke when i sat in it and leaned back in the seat. i am a 6'3 man that only weights about 190 lbs., it should not have broke. it concerns me because if all i did was lean back in the seat....what will happen in a auto accident?*ak

Drivers power seat is rocking back and forth. there was no event leading up to the failure. one day i got in the car and it was rocking. vehicle has not been in an accident and from research i have done it seems that many other 1998 dodge durango owners are also affected. this defective component is costing durango owners between $500-$600 to replace. if this seat issue isn't addressed, it can cost dodge durango owners their lives if these cheap seats let loose during a collision. i am calling chrysler customer care to report problem. *jb

I would like to report 2 safty defects with my 1998 dodge durango. first is the poor quality wheel studs. during various tire rotations at a qualified service center, six studs have broken (twice at the dealer). i'm really worried that at some point a wheel may come off while i'm driving. second, the drivers power adjust seat rocks back and forth during braking & acceleration. this is annoying and i'm afraid that eventually, it's going to break all the way loose.*jb

Third row of seats, when applying the latch to get out of the vehicle, the third row of seats won't allow the door to open. *ak
Seat belt web is in close proximity to second row seat base latch mechanism for the outside seat and can drop down, interfering with the latch. seat will pivot back to its normal position, but may not be properly latched. if this happens and vehicle wasto make a maneuver, such as hard braking, the second row outside seat can pivot forward and hit driver in back of head. *ak |
