| Yes i would like to make a complaint about the 99 dodge durango,,,,,,,it shuts off while driving ,without any kind of warning ,no sputering,no jerking ,,,just shuts off ,,,,my mother is 56 years old and for her to have to be driving her car and being in danger of it shuting off anywhere,anytime,residential street ,freeway the steering locks up the brakes dont work ,,,this is a very dangerous problem not only for her and the passengers in her car like her grand daughter,friends,family but for the person driving behind her that has to stop very quikly,,,,,this can lead to people getting seriouly hurt,,,,,she has taken it to several mechanics ,the dealership and they cannot diagnose the problem,,,,,so after much time and money wasted i got on the internet to see what i could find ,and found hundres of peolple with the same problem,,,and what it seems to be is the pcm overheating and shuting itself off,after about ten minutes of it cooling down it turns right back on ,,,,,,,then over heats again and shuts itself off again ,,i think this needs to be addressed by dodge before someone gets in a serious accident | |||

| Without any warning, and on 3 separate occasions my 1999 dodge 4x4, durango completely shutdown while driving. after the first incident, w/the abs and engine light on the vehicle was taken to a dodge dealer for service. it was found that a speed sensor needed replacing, this was done. approximately 4 days later while driving on new york ave. in washington dc, the durango again completely shut down, on this occasion and subsequent ones, no warning lights were shown, no evidence was given that vehicle was about to shut down. on the last occasion sept 17, 2003 it again shutdown while driving approximately 45 mph on leesburg pike in falls church va. unlike the other 2 occasions this time it would not restart, although the engine attempted to turnover. it had to be towed, where it is currently undergoing another diagnosic, currently i am awaiting a call from the service technician. additionally the car has 87,256 miles and 3 years old, the back windows are not working due to a failed power housing unit for the windows. the approximate cost is $500 for repairs. | |||

| Dt: the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango that experienced an excessive oil consumption problem. the oil was disappearing nearly every 500 miles. there was no smoking or any type of leaks. the contact felt this was a mechanical problem. the vehicle was using four or five quarts of oil rapidly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic shop for inspection. the mechanic replaced the intake manifold. the upper plenum and throttle body was removed to determine the leak site. the gasket that was supposed to seal the intake of the engine block had apparently not adhered to the bottom on the intake and along the engine. the mechanic noted that chrysler made some design corrections, but the cylinder heads will collect and blow over into the engine, and eventually will be expelled from the vehicle on the ground or burned out. it could collect eight to ten quarts before expelling. the repair was made , and a gasket was replaced. this was the second time it was replaced. the gasket did not necessarily fix the problem because the gasket did not permanently adhered to that area. they retracted it due to hot and cold temperatures, and could not adhere as needed. the contact has another 1999 dodge durango that experienced this problem. also, there was a pinhole on the air conditioner evaporator that allowed the freon to escape and enter in to other durangos. *ak | |||

| While driving there was a popping noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer in which they found that the upper and lower ball joints were completely worn out. *ak the cover under the hood was ripened, the black guard under the front of the vehicle was hanging, the coolant resevoir was leaking, the power steering fluid leaked, the a/c was not cooling due to an open wire from the low push switch, and the fuel gauge did not read properly. *sc | |||

| My engine died with 44,000 miles due to sludge build-up dealership says i did'nt change my oil but i did and i have reciepts. i have all my paper work where i took it in for repairs for the guages going off and oil pressure dropping, having to put 2 qts of oil every 200 miles, knocking in motor, and now my warranty is out i have a blown engine. dealership refuses to accept any responsibility. my power windows and quit working in the summer could not roll down windows and the air condition was not blowing out cold air . gas tank strap broke with a full tank of gas & was being held on with only 1 strap, gas tank was hanging down. i have several more minor gripes but the main thing now is the engine. i have read over some consumer complaints web sites and it seems i'm not the only person having the same problem. dt | |||

| The oil pressure dropped and all the lights on the panel had come on. while driving the vehicle had become sluggish and then had gone back to normal. the dealer was unable to remedy. the oil was burning every 200 miles. the ovt valley pan gasket was changed, and the intake gasket was replaced. there was a loud knocking and or clicking in the motor. the dealer found sludge in the motor, and found that it was blown. the seat wouldn't slide/hard to lift, and the a/c compressor was found loose. ts scc | |||
