I bought my 99 durango 3 months ago & the ball joints are popping & something in the rear is squeaking like an old matress & the brakes already need replaced & the ac doesnt work. my concern is the number of complaints i have seen regarding accidents from the ball joints breaking & not being able to steer. if this has been an on going issue with vehicles that have low mileage there should be a recall & dodge pay for the repairs when peoples lives are in danger. do you really want another toyota issue?

We purchased this vehicle from v & h ford inc, marshfield, wi. in june 2003. the next day after i got it i started it & it started to squeal. my husband noticed transmission fluid leaking as well. we took it back to the dealer, we were told that the fan clutch & serpentine belt were shot, as well as a little leak in the transmission. they put some kind of sealer on it & continued to leak. (also during all of this time, our rpm's kept jumping.) after the 3rd time, they said they did a factory authorized repair & put what was referred to as a cock ring in it to seal it. this seams to have taken care of this. then when the truck was put in reverse it kept clunking, the u-joints went out next, then the latch broke on our glove box. meanwhile the rpm's keep jumping, it has been back in the shop a total of probably 7 to 8 times so far. our service engine light came on & flashed the code of fuel injector #8, when it was put through the diagnostic test, however we are learning this is still not the problem. last weekend i was going to put the truck in the garage. i put in drive, and it took off on me without me even touching the gas. it has done this several times now while on the road. now for the past week, when you leave a stop sign, it will shift once and stay at about 3000 - 3500 rpm and will not shift until you are ready to stop. when you try to stop the trottle sticks and the truck wants to go. we are at loss what to do. we have obviously purchased a lemon that it a hazard to be on the road. to trade it in or try to sell it outright seems to be a crime, because we know the horrible things wrong with it. i am certain that it is only a matter of time before my husband & i and our 2 children are seriously hurt or killed by the spuratic behavior of this dangerous vehicle. please advise us what to do. is there a lemon law or any thing that can help us. meanwhile, we are stuck making payments on this . *ak

Tl* - the contact owns a repair shop and complained that if the door handle broke on the 1998 or 1999 dodge durango there was no replacement door handle available for purchase. the contact stated that the internal driver's side door handle for 1998 - 1999 vehicles were no longer being produced, and the vehicle owners has no recourse. the contact made a makeshift door handle because the original handle was no longer available, and there was no part available that would put the vehicle in compliance. this failure could be a safety hazard in case of an accident. the vehicle owner could not easily get out of the car. the contact stated that the part which was $30.00 - $40.00 was being purchased at junk yards for approximately $400. the current and failure mileage were both 71,838 . *ak

I own a 1999 dodge durango with approximately 64,000 miles. immediately upon purchasing the vehichle i have experienced a large poping and dragging sound when turning or performing a u-turn. recently i attempted to make a u-turn and my car nearly lost control and felt as if it would tip over. i took the vehicle in to cerritos dodge and i was advised that the vehichles upper and lower, right and left ball joints were completely shot. all were replaced. i continue to experience the popping and dragging sounds. upon purchasing the vehichle, i have had to change the (all four) tires 3 times, obtain 3 wheel alignments, change the battery (went completely dead at approximately 25,000 miles) repair the brake light switch (brake lights wouldn't turn off), and repair door/hatch locks (unable to lock and make loud buzzing and clicking sound). *ak

1999 dodge durango, bought new, has 53,000 miles, i was driving on a highway on 4/22/05,check gauges lit up on dashboard, oil pressure gauge went to zero, car still drivable, pulled over after 3-4 miles into turnpike service area, checked oil stick and it read full, continued additional drive to destination of approx. 5 miles and dropped off at nearby dodge dealership, their diagnosis is sludge in engine and oil pump has to be replaced and the entire engine will have to be replaced, they suspect lousy maintenenace by car owner regarding oil changes, i have documentation that car was well maintained, on a internet search, i found that hundreds of durango owners have experienced the exact problems with this type of vehicle. in addition, i have experienced other problems with my vehicle: replaced window moter, replaced leak in cooling system thermostat, replaced switch assembly for a/c heating unit, replaced brakes and rotors on front.*ak

I bought a 1999 dodge durango from carter co. dodge. i did not start having problems with anything until about 6 months ago, when the passenger rear door lock and window were beginning to have problems opening. the window finally quit working and now the door is also having problems opening. just recently the rear tailgate door has started acting up also. sometimes it will open and other times it will not. it wont open even if you use the key. i am afraid this is going to lead to a major problem if these locks and windows quit working all together and i have a problem getting out of the vehicle. after speaking with the woman that owned the vehicle prior to me, she informed me that she had replaced the door locks twice and was tired of having to do this, so she traded the durango in. i am afraid this is going to become a saftey hazard, and would like to see this matter investigated to see if there are more complaints than just mine. thank you patty gibson. *ak

After seeing the news articles on tv, we had the ball joints on our durango checked and we were told that all four needed to be replaced. we did not want to have an accident and be one of the fatalities due to this very dangerous situation. we went ahead and replaced them in hopes that there will be a recall. we request that you do a recall. also, the back latch rattles very loudly and we cannot make it stop. *cb
