FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

V8-287 4.7l durango stalls without warning. doesn't matter if i am on the freeway or in city traffic. nothing specific that i can relate to the cause. immediately lose power steering. electrical seems to continue working. car will start back up fine after 5 to 15 minutes of sitting. happens in hot and cold weather, day or night. can go for weeks without stalling and then stall several times in a few days. yellow check engine light comes on, which the manual tells me is not an immediate issue. extremely unsafe and i fear for my family's safety. looked at dodge durango maintenance and repair forum on internet and found pages and pages of similar complaints. (http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com and http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/dodge-durango) through these websites it doesn't look like anyone can figure it out, including the dealerships, although the problem seems to be widespread. *tr

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - DELIVERY - FUEL PUMP

One several occasions (more than 3) the vehicle has shut off completely in the roadway with no warning. the fuel seems to be in a vapor lock or the fuel pump is not pumping correctly. there is currently a recall on the 2005 durango for the exact same problem. i feel this may be the same issue related to my vehicle. the mechanic who evaluated the vehicle stated this was the problem and these vehicles were known to have this problem throughout several years. *jb

Since ownership of the vehicle two engines were replaced. front end had been realigned on at least two occasions due to excessive wear on the tires. also, fuel pump had been replaced twice. *ak

I have had my 2000 durango in to the dealership (when it was under warranty) for spongy, loose, pulsing braking, noise from the suspension, & a chirping/squeaking sound (alternator like) when it is cold outside. the suspension noise was corrected with new spacers in the leaf springs (which they admitted were a problem). i was told that the pulsing in the brake pedal was normal for the durango & not to worry about it. they did a balance & told me it took care of the problem. it didn't. they could not duplicate the chirping (after 2-3 visits) although it happens for me every day. now we are out of warranty after reading many of the complaints for the same problems here, i'm just waiting for something to happen. will my children be injured as a result? this vehicle has 32k miles which are 99% highway is in cherry condtion. i've decided to take it to a private mechanic (napa) & pay for his opinion on the rotors, ball joints, arms, brakes, water pump/alternator, etc. once i've paid for his opinion, how do we get dodge to pay for the repairs ...since they won't own up to any of the problems. is there going to be a recall on the rotor/brake problem or the ball joint/arm problem? my brakes usually last at least 60k miles & i have never had problems with suspension on any of my new cars. then, i'm getting rid of it.*ak

I was on a stop light at 8am and the exhaust pipe was blowing out white smoke and the engine was shaking and the check engine light was on. brought it to the dealer and late they called and said it was the fuel injector. the next day they called again and said its the module now. april 6 they said the part was not available, not till the 19th, it was back ordered. i went there on the 20th and the part was still not available. it has been 3 weeks today and there is still no news yet. what else could i do. can i just return the truck to them? we had already paid off the truck , because we took a loan from the house . what can i do?

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY - FILLER PIPE AND CAP

In cool weather, i get a thick white emulsion buildup on the inside of the oil filler cap, to the point where it is dripping down into the crankcase and getting sucked into the pcv valve. the local dealer, not the one where i bought it, tells me this is normal and to just wipe it out. having worked on cars for over 30 years, i do not see this as normal. it seems that excesive moisture is getting into the crankcase from somewhere. *ak

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 dodge durango. the contact was sitting idle at a traffic stop when a fire ignited from the front passenger side of the vehicle and smoke was emitting from the hood. the police and fire were dispatched and a fire report was available. the vehicle was then towed to a repair shop where the contact was advised that the fire was caused by faulty fuel lines. the vehicle was deemed as destroyed. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 140,000.

Our 2000 dodge durango with just over 36,000 miles blew on a trip out of town leaving us stranded. the factory warranty had just expired. the extended warranty people came down and are trying to blame it on us, saying we didn't change the oil enough, (that's ridiculous) we did change the oil, but even if we hadn't it shouldn't make the engine blow, it might make it run like crap, it wasn't really doing that either. after researching on the internet, i found many other people who had the same problem, it turns out it is a part in the oil pump that should have been recalled in 98,99, and 2000 models before they extended the factory warranty in later models. do they really expect people with these problems to buy a new motor for 6,000, and they don't have to be responsible for any of it!!!! our durango is still at the dealership, we don't know what to do. chrysler is trying to ignore us, to trade for a new vehicle, we will lose around 4 thousand dollars and our payments will be more expensive then we can really afford. we still owe $14,000 on that piece of crap. they need to extend the warranty like volkswagen and toyota did when they had this problem with some of their models, or do something!!!! thank you. *ak
