The headlights on my 2001 dodge durango blink on and off when they are turned on. this problem renders the vehicle inoperable to drive at night. i read on the internet that thousands of other drivers have also experienced this problem. it has something to do with the central timer module. dodge should be made to issue a vehicle recall to fix this unsafe blinking headlight problem.

I have a 2001 dodge durango and the interior panel and exterior lights flicker intermittently. i can also hear a relay switch click when the lights flash on and off. it is dangerous as i cannot drive at night.

I was driving home from work one night, it was raining, when my headlights, wipers, and dashboard just went out. i pulled over in a parking lot, shut off the engine waiting a couple of minutes and turned it back on and they still wouldn't work. i can not drive my car at night or when it is raining, or even lock my doors. they tried replacing the ignition switch and still no lights.

2001 durango had headlight and windshield wiper failure at night in the rain at 60 miles an hour. the central timing module went out. we couldn't see to drive and oncoming drivers couldn't see us. its was like being blindfolded. you cant navigate the highway without having the ability to see.the nhtsa was notified, and they told me that unless an investigator finds a trend, they cant issue a recall. upon looking at their website i have found over 100 complaints for this... which to me is a trend. i guess someone has to die before this will be taken seriously. i called the dodge corp. office and they are aware of the issue but until the nhtsa makes them recall, they wont. shame on dodge and the nhtsa for not fixing the defect. this is not an inconvenience defect, this is a safety defect. if you have problems with your lights, wipers, electrical system please post complaint so that the nhtsa will finally see a trend. this potentially fatal defect must be recognized! please involve your local media if you get no response with the nhtsa. the time for bailouts to the car company's' is over if they aren't required to manufacture a safe product! the nhtsa said they receive over 500 complaints a day. with that many complaints could they be missing this defect trend? it is time to check into the electrical, transmission, and seat belt issues that dodge is having. the nhtsa should be doing all they can to avoid innocent deaths from the neglect of greedy car manufacturers. driving without windshield wipers or headlights=death! *tr

My 2001 dodge durango started having problems with interior lights, dash lights, intermittent wipers, door locks not operating, the 4-wheel drive light on, and headlights not working. checked all fuses and all were good. disconnected/reconnected battery and all returned to normal. two days later, while my 16 y/o son was driving the vehicle, the interior and dash lights (later to learn the headlights) were flickering on and off. i took it for a test ride and all seemed normal for first few miles, when suddenly the dash lights and headlights started to flicker rapidly. a few seconds later the headlights went out completely for approximately 5-7 seconds and came back on. the headlights went out again as i was pulling off the road for approximately 7-10 seconds with intermittent interior dash lights flickering. i turned the vehicle off, removed the negative battery terminal for approximately 3 minutes and again all returned to normal. this

In march of 2001 i bought a 2001 dodge durango 4x4 the first year was great , then despite the fact that i took my vehicle in evey 3000 mi. for whatever was manufacturer recommended maintenance , and the dealers 27 point inspection, the front brakes were suddenly completely shot and cost in excess of $450 to repair last june i believe , right after getting serviced and a front end alignment ,i drove to work , attempted to shut off vehicle, and it refused the engine sped up , the lights flashed , the gauges went wild, and it finally died. day after day they cept telling me they didnt know what the problem was ,after a week of being worked on the dealership informed me the starter had gone and it would be 24 to 48 hours before they could get one about the same time the front end started to make a strange grinding noise while backing up while turning....they still havent figured out this one.....but im wondering if it is a balljoint issue also after several of the regularly schedueled services i complained that there was fluid left on my driveway. i was told that it was run off from the frame of some of the old oil,....now after it is out of warranty, they finally found the leak....the power steering rack is leaking oh and i almost forgot, when i first got this vehicle, the left rear brake light didnt always work...after 4 or 5 attempts to get it repaired , i had a mechanic friend of mine look it over ...in less than 5 minutes he told me the contacts in the housing were defective ....i got the dealership to check into it and they replaced it and it has been fine ever since this vehicle has always had its manufacturers recommended services at the interval required , it was very expensive to buy , and to maintain, it only has 40,000 mi. on it , and looks great, but appearntly it is a money pitt and death trap all rolled into one!!

EXTERIOR LIGHTING - HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS - UNIT

Not sure exactly when the last failure was because i don't travel all the time... but when i do... sometimes the emergency flashers come on by themselves and cannot be turned off. this is not good while traveling down the interstate highways. the flasher switch does not work any longer and the flashers cannot be turned off. i hear clicking noises under the dash and have even tried pullling fuses... you cannot turn the emergency flashers off. my destination is about 250 miles away and when this does happens, they may continue to flash all night long resulting in the battery being dead the next day. i have a feeling this happens even when i don't travel because sometimes when i want to go somewhere the battery is dead and the truck has been sitting in my garage all night.this is obviously an electrical problem that could eventually result in a fire or death...*ak the dealer maxwell dodge in austin texas is special and does not have to adhere to any laws. they do not want to fix the upper ball joints on my 2001 durango either unless i can leave it there until they get around to it. they won't make an appointment for the 2 hour repair needed and insist that i bring it there and leave it until they ready to give it back. what a scam! i hope that you will review this matter and correct these issues with the unethical dealers that manufacturers continue to allow distribution and support of thier products.. thanks, ricky greer 2001 dodge durango r/t 4x4 5.9 liter vin: 1b4hs28z11f603563. *ak
