I received a letter recently from my local dodge dealer indicating my 2005 dodge durango would require repair for something causing the fuel to spill out during fill up. this has happened to me several times in the past as i was unaware that there was a recall for this. after receiving this letter a few weeks ago i inspected the quarter panel underneath the gas tank more closely noticing bubbling of the paint with chipping starting. pressing on the paint it sounded corrosive like rust. as i began to chip some of the paint away i discovered rust and two holes that were completely through. looking through the holes i could see rust behind the body. after reviewing several car and dodge forums i see that this has happened to several people in the same area of the drive quarter panel. i can only assume there is a correlation between the fuel problem and the rust that appears to have come inside out to the body of the car. there is no other rust on this car and has been well maintained. i contacted my local dealer who informed me that the recall on the inlet valve is still valid however rust would not be. it concerns me that chrysler doesn't feel responsible for the damage caused by their defective item. how could i have know that this was happening since i just received notification i'm concerned the rust damage is more great than i can actually see. of course i'm additionally concerned with possible fire etc which is what the recall specifically indicates. i will make appointment with the dealership for repair of the fuel inlet valve.i would like chrysler to also pay for the damage that was caused by their defective part. i have 99,200 miles currently. i don't want my concerns to be dismissed as i feel i'm not the only one that this has happened to. i only received a letter recently for this problem so i feel all parts of the problem should be addressed.

Vehicle stalls at low speeds and deceleration, idling hard at a stop and while in park, will stall when idling hard, gas spills out of inlet when filling up completely, sluggish in temperatures below 30 degrees and above 80 degrees, requires more than normal maintenance, service techs can never diagnose the causes of stalling or idling issues, think it might concern the throttle body, transmission has torqued itself out before, stripped screws, rebuilt at 90000 miles. just waiting for it to go again. this vehicle has been nothing but issues ever since i bought it used. every fix just feels like a band aid to the manufacturing problems it has.

I purchased a used 2005 dodge durango and recently in december 2012 it started having problems when trying to put gas in it. the gas pump clicks off and the the gas starts to spew back out not only does it go on the car it actually even reaches you. there has been recalls for this year durango but i was told my vin number was not covered. since this problem i have been doing some research and have found out that over 3,000 people also have complained. i believe this is a very dangerous situation and they say it can cause a fire. i dont understand why the nhtsa would not recognize and demand there be more recalls done and honored free of charge. a life is a life and cant believe anyone would take a chance with it. *tr

After purchasing the vehicle used as is, i took the vehicle to completely fill the tank. as the tank became full the pump handle clicked and fuel began to overfill out of the spout. fuel sprayed along the side of the durango and on to my clothes and shoes. i am not happy with the dangers that are possible with this spilling. after doing much research i have came to the conclusion that it is the check valve inside my gas tank. i cannot afford to replace the tank and feel it is the responsibility of dodge to pay for this. they have told me i am not covered under the recall but i feel this is unfair. *tr

This is getting ridiculous and it seems that no one is willing to take ownership for a faulty system that is obviously dangerous. what i found to be absurd is how multiple people have posted numerous complaints about the same issue, recalls have been made for the same issue and still no action. i have a 2005 dodge durango and each and every time i fill my tank the pump will stop but an excessive amount of gas will overflow. how many complaints must be entered before someone takes action or are manufacturers waiting for a catastrophic mishap to get their attention. fumes could easily get under the vehicle, and find the catalytic converter and ignite. something must be done, the time is now. take responsibility! *tr

When i fill my gas tank i get a very strong gas smell, the cab fill with gas fumes. you can only smell gas on the drivers side i brought it in 3 times to be looked at but not issues can be found. the odometer says gas cap but the dealer finds no code issues. there is clearly a issue with my durango but no one is willing to help me with it!! dodge said that my durango is not included in the recall notice and they are more than willing to hook it up to there computer for $100.00 bucks! i have had this durango since 12/2212 and have been working with the private dealer that sold it to me he is not able to find anything wrong with it. i am only getting 7-10 miles per gallon that is crazy. im not sure what to do. *tr

When i fill my gas tank i get a ver strong gas smell, the cab fill with gas fumes. you can only smell gas on the drivers side i brought it in 3 times to be looked at but not issues can be found. the odometer says gas cap but the dealer finds no code issues. there is clearly a issue with my durango but no one is willing to help me with it!! dodge said that my durango is not included in the recall notice and they are more than willing to hook it up to there computer for $100.00 bucks! i have had this durango since 12/2212 and have been working with the private dealer that sold it to me he is not able to find anything wrong with it. i am only getting 7-10 miles per gallon that is crazy. im not sure what to do

I just purchased the 2005 dodge durango limited on december 11th, 2012, i filled up the gas tank all the way on the morning of friday, december 14th, 2012, the pump clicked off, and gas sprayed everywhere. dodge will not help me, neither will any omaha dodge dealer. i have never owned a vehicle that sprayed gasoline everywhere when pumping gas, this is definitely a manufacture defect that should have been addressed at the plant. whatever happened to quality control in america, please, please, please help!! this is a fire hazard waiting to happen!! *tr

Recently purchased used vehicle. every time you fill up the fuel tank, when the pump automatically shuts off fuel sprays past the nozzles vapor recovery boot and out of the fuel filler neck. this is vaporized/atomized gasoline, which leads to an extreme fire hazard. i notified dodge of this situation, but they responded only by saying that there are no open recalls or campaigns regarding my vehicle. *tr

The reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows: every time i have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 dodge durango, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank. it shoots out all over me and the floor. the dealer (town and country jeep chrysler dodge) where the vehicle was originally purchased is insisting there is no such recall for this extremely serious and dangerous issue. on top of that, they have also suggesting that i bring my vehicle in for a diagnostic evaluation at their labor rate which is $ 110.00 per hour. please note i am a smoker and not proud of. even if i weren't, i can't understand why they refuse to see this as an incident or what's worse an accident waiting to happen now or in the future. i would think it would be less of a cost to them now, rather than taking such a risk in the future with someone's life or lives. priorities?????? meanwhile i'll continue to stock up paper towels on trip to the gas station. way to go ( town and country). *tr

I just bought it from a private party and went to fill it up and once it was full it spewed gas all over me and the ground. i thought it was a fluke, but when i filled it up a second time, it did the same thing. i started my search on the internet, and found, there was a recall for 04, 05 , 06, and 07 durangos for this issue. i took it to the dealership, and was told my vin was not included for my 05 durango. i proceeded to go online and talk to dodge directly and got a response that they were standing behind what the dealership said. i proceeded to email them back to get it escalated with no response. i just dont know why there would be recalls all around my vehicle, and my vehicle is doing exactly what the recall said it was doing. hopefully it does not cause a fire hazard, or cause anything to the environment. all i need is to find out how to get my vin number included in the recall or who to talk to, to get it corrected. *tr

I am the owner of a 2005 dodge durango. we are having an issue were the fuel will not shut off at the pump. there is a recall for that year, but surprisingly enough our vin # does not fall under the recall. we had the fuel tank replaced in january of 2008 under warranty for the same issue. obviously there is an issue with the tanks and their manufacturing process. concern is the tank was replaced with a defective tank that was manufactured during the recall time frame, but concerned is not being addressed because the vin # does not fall with in a certain manufacturing date. i am greatly concerned due to the recall stating that the issue can cause fire. what will it take for dodge to recognize the issue.

Upon fueling gas tank until fill, gas tank spews gasoline out of filler tube. took it in to inspection, and was rejected, due to slight emissions leak. failed inspection. took to diagnostics center and had smoke test. resulted in a slight leak that can not be found. advised to have total fuel tank and refill assembly replaced at $700 +. called chrysler recall hotline, and vin did not match for potential recall potential. *tr

I recently purchased a used dodge durango from a used car dealer. the first time the gas station attendant filled up the gas tank, it overflowed. gasoline was all over the side of my car and onto the ground. the attendant was not touching the gas pump handle. the second time i had the car refueled at costco, it happened again. this time, it was even more of a spill and held up the refueling of other vehicles for quite some time while the attendant mopped up the spilt fuel on the side of my car and ground. i contacted my local dodge dealer and reported the problem to them. they checked my vin # with recall notices regarding this type of problem. there was a recall id # 54823 which affected 26,000 vehicles, but apparently not my vin #. i then contacted chrysler corporation. they also said that my vin # did not have a recall notice on the fuel system. recall id # 54823 states the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. this could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. i have searched the internet and found this is a common defect with similar makes and models manufactured by chrysler corporation. i do not feel that i should incur an expense for a safety item that has previously been well documented. please help me resolve this safety defect before someone is hurt.  I asked the gas attendant to fill up the tank. after about half a minute or so, gas sprayed out of the tank. i would estimate half a gallon of gas or so was sprayed out onto the car and ground. at first i thought it was the gas pump nozzle. did fill ups at three different gas stations and same result. i called the dealership and the mechanic said that only the 4.7s are being recalled not the 5.7s for the gas tank's return valve malfunction which causes the spray. *tr

*tr

Experiencing same issue as reported in nhtsa recall campaign number 09v003000 - fuel-spit back problems caused by stuck inlet check valves in the fuel tank filler tubes. when filling up the tank the fuel spits out. this issue occurs regularly upon fill up. the fuel spits out onto vehicle, gas station pavement, and clothing. this is an extreme hazard to myself and to my passengers in the vehicle during regular fill ups. i've had to refrain from filling up the vehicle to full capacity to avoid this occurrence. i checked my vin (1d4hd48d55f579922) for recall information on dodge.com and my vehicle was erroneously not included in this recall.

We had our gas tank replaced on our vehicle on 7/24/08 and chrysler then had a recall notice for the fuel inlet valve issue, which was the problem that we were having. we have contacted chrysler about reimbursing us the cost of the gas tank due to the recall and they will not reimburse this money, stating that they have reviewed our case and will not reimburse us. we were not aware of this recall, as we did not receive a notice. we have owned the vehicle since february of 2008. we just became aware of the recall and therefore contacted chrysler about this situation. does the company have to cover this cost due to the recall of the gas tank and if so is there a time limit on the recall?

I have owned this vehicle for approximately four years now. it has a persistent and very unsettling problem of stalling for no apparent reason with no corresponding warning lights etc. it just dies and the power steering and brakes fail resulting in significant loss of steering and braking effectiveness. this problem has occurred intermittently with no pattern of origin evident several times over the past few years. on several occasions, it has occurred while pulling out into busy traffic lanes across intersections. i have been able to put it into neutral and immediately restart it to avoid a collision. i have utilized fuel cleaners and changed the spark plugs etc. in a effort to resolve the issue. it happened again today at low speed in a parking lot fortunately..just died without warning. i researched this online and found that this is a common engine problem complaint with the durango. today, this occurred with over 3/4 tank of fresh fuel in the tank. this problem constitutes an immediate safety hazard to owners of these vehicles and i am requesting that nhsta initiates an investigation into it's cause ( s ) - thank you - related website link re: common problem - http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/durango/2005/engine/stalling_without_warning.shtml

When we filled up at the gas station the car didn't plug itself when it got full--gas ran out all over my hands, car and ground. this has happened at least 4 times in the last year. the dealership tells me that my vin is not one of the cars registered for a recall for the fuel tank inlet check valve--which it should be! this is a fire waiting to happen!!!!
