 The car begins to sputter and stall at constant speeds, then stalls while running which disables the power steering and brakes. this situation is profoundly dangerous as it renders the car nearly unable to stop. the only way you can stop is if you can get the car into neutral, coast off the road and quickly restart the engine. the engine light does come on after the event. i have gotten this issue repaired four times and it continues to occur and the sensors that correspond to the code have been replaced twice each and are in full working order. dodge is aware of the prevalence of this issue and is unwilling to cooperate because they have not made a recall as of yet.

 2005 dodge durango. in 2007 tierod end on passenger side broke while going down the raod. luckily there was not an accident and the dealer fixed it for free. in august 2011 we discovered that the brake line was laying on the front axle on the drivers side. this caused the brake line to rub in two and caused brake failure resulting in a crash (which is how the problem as discovered). the towtruck driver also said he picked up a durango that had the upper and lower ball joint broken causing an accident. the front end of the 2005 dodge durango is apprently very poorly designed.

 First, the cruise control stopped working. then, the speedometer and odometer quit working when the abs, parking brake, check engine, and traction control lights all came on. took it to the dealer to repair the instrument cluster recall, and was told that it needs a new abs control module and wiring harness. the wiring harness is completely melted, probably because of a short in the control module - at least that's what i was told at the dealership. the wiring harness is on a national backorder until late september, so i am without abs brakes, traction control, and a speedometer/odometer until then.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. when the vehicle reaches 60 mph, it feels as if it will flip over and the wheels are uncontrollable. the contact stated that the vehicle does not need to be aligned; however, they pull the vehicle in the opposite direction. the vehicle also clunks and clinks during acceleration and the engine light remains illuminated. the sensors were changed and the engine light dimmed; however, it illuminated again the following day and still remains lit. the vehicle has new brakes and when the brake pedal is depressed, the vehicle jumps before it stops. the contact must turn the steering wheel in order to avoid a crash. nhtsa campaign id number's 05v460000 (power train:automatic transmission) and 07v092000 (electrical system: instrument panel) were referenced. the current mileage was 82,000 and failure mileage was 62,000.

 Dt*: the contact stated while having routine maintenance performed on the vehicle, at 3,000 miles, the dealership was alerted of brake dust on the wheels. the dealership determined this was normal wear. the vehicle was in for routine maintenance, at 12,000 miles, and the dealership determined the brakes are 50 percent worn and will have to be replaced at 19,000 miles.

 Dt: the contact stated the brakes failed and the vehicle stalled. when she put the vehicle into reverse it revved, but did not go anywhere. the vehicle then stalled with no warning lights. this happened eight to nine times. the brakes have failed three times, almost rear ending a truck. the brakes will not respond when pressed. she has to take foot and slam it to the floor for the vehicle to stop. the vehicle has been to the dealership for both problems multiple times, but they could not duplicate either problem. they thought it may be a computer glitch. these problems happened separately. *ak updated 1/4/2006 - *nm

 We purchased a 2005 dodge durango used march 11, 2006 with 16,568, miles on it. on march 13th two days after we purchased it and 16,614 miles later (48 miles later) the truck broke down on the highway! we had the truck towed in to earnhardts dodge, find out the ring gear and pinion set needs replaced, differential side bearings - all axles replace (includes case and side gears if necessary) this is quoted from all my receipts. 2nd time around (july 18,2006) - now has 24,795 miles on it, rear end issues again! again this is the repairs - seal, axle shaft oil - replace all other axles-right. brake pads, disc brake-both sides rear replace due right rear axle seal leaking contaminated pads, rotor has fluid burned into the surface. replaced right axle seal and brakes. also had to replace watts link sway bar, replaced bell crank and links. replaced both rear stabilizer bars again. 3rd time (january 10,2007) - now at 38,051 miles replace seal, axle shaft oil, replace all other axles - replace seal, drive pinion oil replace all others. 4th time, (january 29,2007) now at 39,329 again, replaced bell crank, watts link. 5th time (july 16,2007) - 52,058 failed bearing in rear diff, need to replace ring & pinion and all bearings- cost - $1,474, (why would i want to pay this much when they haven't been able to fix this problem?) told them to put the truck back together, we can't afford to fix it. 6th time - now after researching this vehilce, we found out, earnhardts dodge/hyundai in gilbert arizona (same placed we purchased it at) january 17,2006) (now 6 repairs) noticed the durango had rear differtial leaks, they replaced seal, drive pinion oil and all three parts - then returned the vehicle to stock when it was finished at 16,614 miles! just 48 miles before we purchased the vehicle!! *tr

 Dt*: the contact stated while applying brake pressure at various speeds on the highway, the brakes squealed followed by smoke coming from the front brakes. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the front brake caliper mount needed to be cleaned. afterwards, the problem persisted, and the manufacturer was notified.

 Dt*: the contact stated while driving the vehicle at 40 mph the vehicle lost brake power. no warning lights that illuminated. the vehicle was unable to gain momentum, it was going up a hill and the roads were wet. the brakes did not work for approximately 20 minutes. turning the vehicle on and off did not affect the brakes. the brakes came back by themselves. the second time this occurred the vehicle was going 20 mph, and the contact pressed the accelerator pedal multiple times, nothing happened when the pedal was depressed. the tires began to spin suddenly ,and the speedometer read 60 mph, although the vehicle was not moving. the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem, and the computer did not display any codes.*ak
