| The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened. | ||||||

| Fuel tank overflows during fill up.i just receive a recall on this issue on 2/01/2013.i bought this car new on march of 2006.i don't know when this problem starts but notice the problem and blame the gas station for their pump not working properly.this problem has caused me a lot of problem because of gasoline shooting out of a tank to spill all over me (loss of clothes,shoes and rash on my arm, hand,foot and legs).now my car where the fuel tanks is located caused the paint to rust ($600 to fix) and my bumper to discolored and because i rotate my tires most of my log nuts($200) has to be replaced.i cannot quantify how much gasoline i loss during that period.i have called them regarding compensation for this matter and was told that they will fix the problem which they did but not compensate me. | |||

| When filling the gas tank the fuel splashes and pours out all over me and the vehicle. the paint on the vehicle that is exposed to the fuel has begun to bubble and rust. if the inconvenience and hazard of the spill isn't enough the loss of fuel at today's high prices is an injustice that needs to be addressed. please help us! we paid a lot for our vehicle and now it looks like crap! dodge should care more about it customers! | |||

| When trying to put fuel to fill up the car gas explodes out of tank. this happens any time when trying to put gas in the vehicle, it's probably at least a half gallon each and every time, it gets all over me the vehicle the ground. it's to the point were i can't even fill up, fuel shouldn't come out when filling a vehicle up and with the summer months apon us this is a great hazard. i would figure this is a major fire hazard and would need to be fixed, 2005 dodge durangos were recalled for the exact same thing, but i haven't seen anything for the 2006 dodge durangos. | |||

| Every time at fill up when fueling the vehicle, when the gas pump clicks off fuel shoots/spills out of gas tank opening. doing research on line i've discovered many other dodge durango's with the exact same problem. there has been a tsb # 14-001-12 and nhtsa ref. # 10043594 about the problem and durangos with certain vin#s have been fixed with this tsb. i thought all 2006 durangos would be fixed with this tech. service bulletin. when i inquired at the dealer on 6/9/12 about having the problem fixed i was told my vin # was not covered in the tsb. i contacted chrysler about the problem and had a rep. call me and ask what the problem was and that she never heard of the problem. i referred to the tsb notice and she still acted like she didn't know anything about it. all 2006 durangos should be covered by the lifetime warranty on parts and repairs listed in tsb 14-001-12. this is a very serious safety issue that could very well result in fire and death. | |||

| Gas no longer automatically shuts off. gas spills out everytime i refuel. i have to guess when i should stop the fueling but sometimes i miscalculate and it all over my shoes and the ground. fire hazard in the wait. | |||

| The vehicle started out by shifting on its own when the vehicle would be stopped. then it began shifting on its own even when it was turned off. it would shift into 4 lo or 4 high totally on its own when stopped. then from there it started shifting into 4 lo or high while driving and it would sound like somebody had hit the vehicle from behind and it would shove the vehicle forward as though it had been hit but all because it was shifting on its own. i took it to our mechanic a couple of times but it would not repeat itself while he had it and he had not heard of such a thing before, so i continued to drive it. sometimes it would not reverse without giving it a lot of gas and sometimes it would not turn when i needed it to, perhaps because it was in 4lo or hi. and occasionally it would jump forward with no warning or control making screaching sounds from the tires. then one day i was sitting in traffic and it shifted itself into 4 lo and thrusted the car forward several feet and luckily i was far enough back from the vehicle in front of me that i didn't hit it. however at that point it would barely drive so i slowly got it off the side of the road and then it would not shift out of 4 lo the entire day, so i had to eventually have it towed to my mechanic. by the time it got there it drove fine again and he could not find the problem. but while parked in his lot, it began to change gears, on its own, and while turned off. he did some research and found that other owners of 2006 dodge durangos had reported similar problems and he called to let us know that it was a manufacturers defect that he could not repair it and to file a report on it and that it was extremely unsafe to drive. he said it was shifting itself into other gears whether the vehile was off or on and to make sure that we left it in park as it could put itself into nuetral and still roll even while off. i called the manufacturer who offered no help at this time. this is my only way to work at this time. | |||

| Dodge durango 2006. i have had numerous problems with this vehicle. at 119,000 miles, i have had the exhaust manifold gasket replaced 4 times due to broken bolts/studds, all o2 sensors replaced as well as the catalytic converter. the fuel system overflows when fueling up, splashing over the gas attendant and vehicle. the most serious and dangerous problem lately has been the vehicle stalling at all speeds in the rain. when i brought the vehicle to the dealer they said there was an update for a cowl below the windsheld wipers that protects the firewall from water. they replaced this part. the next time it rained the problem occured again, truck stalled at 45 mph. when the vehicle stalls you lose power steering which makes it difficult to get to a shoulder. once the truck is stopped and placed into park it will restart without a problem. the stalling continues to occur in the rain. very scary. | |||

| Sudden accleration when putting car in gear in drive or reverse on my 2006 dodge durango. i had a 2004 durango that gave me the same problem years ago and when i brought it into the dealer to check it out was told they could find nothing wrong with the car. they said at that time that because the gas pedal and brake are so close together that i probably had my foot on the gas pedal at the same time as i was braking to put the car in gear and that this caused the acclearation. i thought that might be the case until it happened on my 2006 model at least 7 times since i've had it. what is my recourse? | |||

| Vehicle is a 2006 dodge durango ltd 4wd vehicle's engine dies at low speeds either while turning or braking. has occurred on multiple occasions. engine always starts up again after occurrence. when this occurs the engine light will come on and will stay on for a period of time (time has varied from hours to days) but will then go off. the first time this occurred i brought it to a firestone dealership who check the car, checked the error on the computer and turned off the engine light. since the warning error was not specific nothing more was done. since that time, it has occurred on at least two more occasions and has nearly caused wrecks because of the problem. *tr | |||
