Fuel spews out of filler neck when the tank is filled
10/01/20071000
I bought the vehicle new and noticed within the first 1000 miles when filling up and using the auto shut off, gas would spill out of the tank on the side of the car. i thought it was the pump itself and tried others. i was told by local dodge dealer there wasn't a problem and no check engine lights would ever come on indicating an issue. my fuel cap has been replaced several times but i can't use auto shutoff any more with this vehicle. i've gotten use to not filling up but have been told by others this could be dangerous. my car goes in the shop tues 1/9/12 under warranty and wondering what they will say.

This truck was purchased used in november 2011 with 45000 miles. i have filled the tank 3 times and every time the pump auto shut-off clicks and a few cups of fuel overflows and spills down the side of the vehicle. the 2005 model year was recalled with this same problem, but 2007 had not yet been recalled.

My durango is having the same problem that i see complaints all over the place for. i have the fuel spewing back out of the tank when i am pumping gas...the nozzle will click off, then a geyser shoots out and it's a lot! this is absolutely ridiculous that nothing has been done to recall/fix this problem. how long or how many vehicles is it going to take before any action will take place. are ya'll waiting for someone to die...a fire...etc?? this is a hazard, not only for the person who is filling up the tank, but for the gas station as well. when this happened to me, my hand burned for the majority of the day, and this was after i washed it several times....not to mention my scrubs were ruined. something seriously needs to be done to correct this issue before someone gets hurts!

When filling up the gas tank extra gasoline is spit out of the tank which is a fire issue for the gas station. if we are filling the gas tank, when the pump automatically stops gas pours back out of the tank. also the gas cap light came on recently & the gas cap was replaced but light came back on. i believe this would be the same recall as the 2005 dodge durango fuel system gasoline storage tank assembly. we are taking the truck to the dealer in little falls, nj on monday, december 26, 2011 for the repairs to be made. if you search the internet you will find other dodge durangos with the same issue. there is a youtube video of a 2007 dodge durango demonstrating what happens at the end of filling the tank. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs5u63cn-ii

Upon normal fueling of the vehicle, gas will significantly expel from fuel inlet when the gas station fuel pump shuts off. this causes dangerous fuel to be in contact with people, vehicle, objects and ground at fuel station. this is a condition that was not caused by the owner or from normal operation of the vehicle. this obvious fueling defect is cause for general public concern for many reasons; excessive skin contact with chemicals, threat of major fire or explosion that could injure, harm or kill individuals and is an environmental hazard to the community.

While filling up the fuel tank and relying on the automatic shut off, gas will spew out covering the person standing there, the ground, and the side of the vehicle. even when approximating the tank being full and trying to control the flow by hand, gasoline will overflow just not with the same force. besides the annoyance of being covered in and smelling like gasoline, this defect poses major safety risks. man up dodge and help us get this fixed.

I just purchased a used dodge durango with 28,900 miles on it. i discovered beginnig the day i bought it that it is impossible to put gasoline into the durango without it dumping out approximately a large amount after the hose shuts off. it does not seem to matter if it is an attempt to fill the tank or just to add any amount of gasoline to the vehicle. it always does it about 1 or 2 seconds after the pump clicks off. the gasoline goes down the side of the vehicle and there is always a large puddle on the ground under the vehicle. i am afraid that someday it will catch on fire due to the excessive amount of fuel loss. the is also always a gasoline smell inside the passenger compartment after filling the tank. i have seen many complaints online and also reported to the ntsb regarding this issue. why is there not a recall?.

The fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling. it allows some fuel to escape from the vehicle filler neck. now the gas cap light message stays on and the check engine light came on and stays on. this was a recall for the 2005 durango mine is a 2007 is this recall still active for my vehicle?

2007 dodge durango. when refueling the auto, fuel spews from the tank extremely dangereous situation and fire hazard. this happens regardless of the flow of gas into the tank. please do someting before a serious event takes place and lives are lost or serious injury takes place.

I have a 2007 dodge durango limited vehicle. at about 45,000 miles when filling up the gas tank at any gas station and letting if fill up to the automatic cut-off, gas spills out with great force right after the pump's auto cut-off. it spurted as far out as about 2-3 feet from the car and then continues to come out and go down the side of the car. i would estimate that there is probably at least 8-12 ounces of fuel spillage everytime this happens. this is a fire, safety, and environmental hazard. it is my understanding from doing research that there are many people that have this problem in chrysler vehicles. many years 2005-2009 durangos, jeep wranglers, and jeep cherokees. it is clear that chrysler continues to put faulty filler tubes and gas tanks on their vehicles even after they knew they had a problem. i have seen over 200 complaints of this problem on various model years of durango's just in this past year. chrysler gives the run around expecting people to pay anywhere from $200-$1500 to fix this problem that should be fixed by them for faulty equipment. there are also plenty of videos on the internet showing this problem. i urge you to open an investigation on the 2007 durango and other models and institute a recall to force chrysler to fix this problem. you all investigated toyota only after 32 complaints which ended up being more user error than anything. i know that nhtsa has got a lot more than 32 complaints on this issue. please be consistent with your investigations and start one for this problem.

When filling the fuel tank, at the completion of filling the pump automatically shuts off as normal but about 1-2 seconds after approximately 1-2 quarts of fuel comes rushing out of the filler neck. if i am lucky enough to have selected a fuel pump with a rubber shield, the fuel only spills all over the side of the truck and then creates a sizable puddle on the ground. if i use a pump with no shield, i usually end up with a saturated sleeve even if i try to gently finish filling the tank. i am very concerned about this problem causing a fire and injuring not only myself and my family, but any others near me at the gas station.
11/23/201065000
My 2007 dodge durango spews fuel out when i fill up. at first i thought i did something wrong, but it does it even when i fill up very slowly. after a bit of research and speaking with my mechanic it seems to be a common problem and i wish dodge would do something about it- they did for the 2005 model year. how is this any less dangerous? i haul my kids around in this vehicle all the time and the last thing i want is anything to happen to them.
12/01/201051000
On my 2007 dodge durango every time the gas tank is filled it overflows onto the ground which is a safety hazard. the fumes are bad inside the truck after this overflow and i have a child riding in there so i have to wash the truck every time this happens. at first i thought it was a faulty gas pump but after it happened repeatedly at various stations i realized it was the vehicle. then i thought it must be the filler neck so i took it to a shop to have it replaced because it is out of warranty and $213 later it still overflowing on the ground. next i looked online to see if anyone else was having the same problem and discovered many many people are. 2005 through 2008 that i have seen and everyone says you have to replace the fuel tank because of a defective valve. there was a recall on 2005 models and i can see why dodge would want to ignore the problem on the rest because it will cost them money but i cannot understand why the government has not forced them to do a recall. this problem is obviously a manufacturer defect. what other vehicles dump gas on the ground when they are 3 years old? none! a recall needs to be done on these vehicles before someone gets blown up or burned.

Fuel sprays out of fill hole when tank is filled and pump shuts off. this has been doing this for years, and i just learned this was a common problem to dodge vehicles. to correct, i never fill the vehicle up.

I recently purchased a 2007 dodge durango had it brought up on 12/1/2010. the tank was empty so i went to the local gas station to fill up. let it shut off by itself when full and there was gas spilling out of the tank after it shut off. i assumed it was the pump. so few days later had to fill again it did it again different gas station. there is something seriously wrong with this tank and a really big safety concern for fire or if you don't clean the gas off the side of the vehicle near the tank right away. i am a mother of 2 small children and this terrifies me. my car has less then 36,000 miles and not even a true 3 years old this should still be considered a factory warranty issue or do the right thing and put as a recall. all you have to do is google this and there are hundreds to thousands with the same issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs5u63cn-ii here is a youtube video of the issue mine does as his does also. i just got this vehicle and not even driven more than 23 days and the fuel tank is messed up, and now the gas cap light is coming on and wont go off, and the malfunction light on the instrument panel is now coming on. i believe its all from this fuel tank issue. i cant afford an expense like this. no one could predict an issue like this.

The fule tank shut off or overfill device that prevents overfilling is failing on all dodge durangos in our fleet. this allows the vehicle to burp out approximately 2 quarts of fules with enough force to hit the adjacent pump.

I have a 2007 dodge durango. the last three times i put gas (at two different gas stations) the gas sprayed back out with lots of force. the last time, i did not even fill the tank completely and still the gas spilled out. at first i thought it was the gas pump, but it has occurred at two different gas stations. the employee at the gas station indicated that they seen the same problem with other dodge durango. i am very concern because of the danger this situation represent. can anyone please help?

 1. i noticed the past few times i filled up, gas would spew under pressure once i took out the gasoline hose. i thought it was the gas station , but it does it at all stations. 2. it does this every time i fill up the vehicle with gasoline. gasoline comes out under pressure and i think its a fire hazard. 3. well, i cant fill up my car because of the problem. i looked into it and notice there was a recall on 2005 dodge durango. i took my 2007 dodge durango to dealer and told them about the issue. i was referred to chrysler corporate , where they told me i would have to pay a 100 dollar copay since there is no recall on my model year and my car is out of warranty. i feel dodge did not correct the issue with the recall and i should not have to pay for a clearly defective product that has already been previously recalled on other model years.

I own a 2007 durango. about six months ago, i noticed that when fueling up, when the tank was full, gas was blowing out of the fill valve while the gas nozzle was still in the fill valve. i talked to the dealer about it, but the service manager basically blew me off, like it was my fault. i started watching whether the amount of fuel in the tank upon filling up mattered--it did not. the fuel would spill out no matter if the tank was on empty, 1/4 full, 1/2 or 3/4 full. i tried fueling up first thing in the morning thinking heat had something to do with it--it didn't the fuel still spewed out. these things were tried as a result of statements made by the service manager. *tr

I had been noticing that when i would fill up my durango, when it got to the top, it would spill out all over my car and on the ground. at first i thought it was just a fluke but it has continued to do so. i called the dealership and all they told me was that they would just have to look at it to discover what the problem was. i then took it to my mechanic and he told me that there was a recall for this very thing and advised me to call the number listed 1-800-853-1403. i was told by the person on the on the other end that my durango was not one of them. i proceeded to tell her even though when this very recall is exactly what my car is doing and it is a 2005 model. she said no. well i am now having to have this same recall issue fixed and paid for out of my own pocket because you don't believe my mechanic. he will be submitting this on the bill as to what he had to do to fix the problem. i tried doing this the nice way but no one on the other end would listen. go figure. i will also be filing a complaint with the bbb as well. *tr

I just purchased a 2007 dodge durango and noticed that every time i fill up the truck at a gas station, instead of the gas pump automatically shutting off once the gas tank was full, gas would spit/back out of the nozzle area and run down the side of the truck. i at first thought it might have been the gas station, but it has occurred three more times at different gas stations. needless to say, this is very dangerous and apparently, this is a very common problem with other dodge owners. i called the dealership and they said that because i purchased the extended warranty, i'm responsible for the deductible. this problem should have been a recall on dodge behalf. i'm afraid that because i have to wait to come up with the deductible, a more serious accident could occur in the meantime. please contact me at your earliest convenience and thank you for your attention to this letter. *tr
