Defect SummaryThe abs hydraulic control unit can experience excessive brake actuator piston seal wear causing pump-motor deterioration.
Consequence SummaryIf this condition occurs, the abs function could be lost and reduced power assist would be experienced during vehicle braking increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Corrective SummaryDealers will test the vehicle's anti-lock brake system and repair the vehicles if necessary. also the warranty on all abs components will be extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles (except for the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump-motor assembly which will have a lifetime coverage). owners will also be reimbursed for previous abs component repair costs.

 Tl*the contact owns a 1993 dodge dynasty. the contact stated that the pump motor assembly was making a noise while driving. he was advised that the abs, pump motor assembly and the brake actuator piston were the primary cause of the failure. a local mechanic advised him that recall 96v099000, service brakes, hydraulic antilock seemed to be directly related to the failure. an authorized dealer inspected the vehicle and offered no assistance. the manufacturer advised her that the repair was performed previously and would not repair the vehicle again under the recall. the contact referenced the lifetime coverage of the parts on the recall notice but the manufacturer denied it. the vehicle has not been repaired. the current mileage was 94,782 and the failure mileage was approximately 93,900. updated 01/15/10. *lj updated 01/19/10.*jb

 Tl*the contact owns a 1993 dodge dynasty. while driving 40 mph the brakes failed. he had to shift the vehicle into neutral to decelerate. the manufacturer advised the contact that recall# 96v099000, service brakes, hydraulic, anti-lock was repaired with the previous owner which made him ineligible for a free remedy. no repairs were made. the current and failure mileages were 180,000.

 While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. vehicle continued to accelerate. consumer pulled over into a ditch in order to stop. consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the abs braking system unit needed replacement. consumer informed the mechanic that the problem recurred. *ak

 With no warning, abs motor went out, causing vehicle to lose power. also, it was hard for vehicle to stop. cause unknown . dealer notified. *ak consumer states that the abs pump motor failed and when calling the dealer mentioned recall, the dealer stated recall had been completed in jan of 1997 and was no longer covered, however after contacting nhtsa and dealer seeing bottom of recall notice, dealer made the proper repairs. *slc

 Consumer received recall notification (96v099000) consumer states ever since recall there has been nothing but problems with brake system from the abs light going on and off, not being able to come to a complete stop before finally pressing brakes completly to the floor, consumer took vehicle in to be inspected and was advised that the accumulator went out which is low pressure and consumer was advised that this problem was not included in warranty. *jb

 While applying the brakes brake pedal went to the floor. consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and had the vehicle towed with no brakes to plaza dodge. mechanic determined that the pump motor needed to be replaced, and replaced it three times. however, the problem recurred. *ak consumer was driving on city streets going less than 20 mph and was able to ditch in off roadway medians or drainage ditch with no damage to vehicle or property. *tc
