Defect SummaryVehicle description: mini vans. the wiring that initiates the driver and/or passenger air bag could electrically short circuit to ground. a short circuit to ground that exists immediately after turning the ignition key to the on or start position can cause the air bag(s) to inadvertently deploy.
Consequence SummaryInadvertent air bag deployment can injure a front seat occupant.
Corrective SummaryDealers will perform an electronic diagnostic check. any short circuits identified in either the driver's or passenger side air bag initiator wire circuit will be repaired.
NotesOwner notification began august 2, 1999.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chrysler at 1-800-992-1997. also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 Dt*: the contact stated while driving 5 mph in reverse, the brake pedal became exceedingly difficult to depress, and excessive force was required to stop the vehicle. a service dealer as well as a private repair shop had inspected the vehicle on several occasions. the problem was determined to be due to the abs failing. the service dealer determined that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect. there was a nhtsa recall # 96v099000 which pertained to the antilock service brakes. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin. updated 9/20/2006 - the seat belts, air bag and windshield wipers malfunctioned. *nm

 The srs air bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. consumer noticed that when driving the air bag light appeared on the dashboard on its on. consumer took vehicle to dealer for inspection. *ak

 Design flaw of hair spring in the airbag sensor has broken, causing the airbag to fail. dealer has repaired the vehicle. *ak *yc the clock spring assembly is the electrical harness for the cruise control and air bag. the clock spring assembly failure caused the air bag inoperable. the clock spring assembly was replaced but failed again and air bag failed to deploy during collision. the clock spring assembly had been diagnosed to be defective and should be recalled. *yh

 Consumer was traveling 10-15mph in rainy weather. sun was glaring in consumer's face and he didn't see a light pole & hit right side of light pole head-on. airbags didn't deploy until 5minutes after the impact. consumer will be contacting manufacturer. *ak
