1993 dodge grand caravan. consumer writes in regards to anti-lock brakes system recall and seeks assistance for repair work. *smd the dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed brake actuator piston and pump/motor failure. while the recall outline the warranty on most of the abs components as 10 years or 100, 000, the coverage for the brake actuator piston assembly and pump/motor was clearly noted as having lifetime coverage. the dealer initially informed the consumer the repair, estimated at $ 1,710 exceeded the value of the vehicle and would not be covered. the consumer then escalated his concern to chrysler care case management group in which they stated the time period had expired. the consumer faxed chrysler documentation regarding the recall and lifetime coverage for the components that were broken, chrysler then responded by saying the brake fluid was contaminated and hence the warranty would not be honored. the consumer then faxed chrysler a receipt from a licensed repair station for the brake work done. the consumer believed chrysler was creating excuses not to cover the repairs.

2004 the pump and motor assembly were replaced and the piston. apparently there was a brake line and valve assembly and that had to be replaced that were not covered under the abs recall and i paid $196.18. 3/23/06 the brakes failed on this vehicle and it was towed in. mechanic said, abs system failure - abs unit needs to be replaced. towed to the dealership. dealer did not log the car into the system for 3 days. the van was out of service 9 days. the actuator piston and pump/motor assembly were replaced. chrysler agreed to pay for 3 days of the rental car since that was all the car was logged in at the dealer. on 6/27/06 the brake and abs lights came on took van back to the dealer. 6/29/06 i was called by the service manager and told that there was a bendix system failure that was covered by the recall and lifetime parts warranty. the part was ordered but would not be available until 7/28/06. it was suggested i call chrysler and let them know since i am again in a rental car. on 6/30/06 i called chrysler and was on the phone about 45 minutes. i talked with jack who took information, said he would contact the dealership about the delay in getting the part and check for the availability of a loaner car and then came back on and said he was putting me through to a representative who would authorize my rental. i was transferred to jason. he reviewed my request and then said no rental assistance would be authorized because 1) the dealer lied and the part is not covered by the recall and, 2) the car is 13 years old and has 150,000 miles on it. i asked if dodge products were only to last 150,000 miles and he rudely told me that all he could suggest was that i call the dealership and his decision was final. i called the service manager back and told him about my conversation and the accusations of the customer service representative and he assured me the bendix system part was covered under the lifetime warranty. he said he would check into it and call me back. *jb

Complete brake failure due to malfunction of abs system control module. i brought this vehicle to roberts chrysler for diagnosis of a complete brake failure. they diagnosed the control module bad as well as the left front abs sensor bad. they charged me $96.00 to diagnose this problem (2 hours labor). they estimate $1411.00 to repair. at the time of the failure the abs light and the brake warning light illuminated , the abs pump stopped functioning, the brake pedal became hard as a rock and i effectively lost all braking function on this vehicle. the pump has since begun to function and normal braking has again taken effect with no repairs made to this vehicle. the abs pump was replaced on this vehicle under recall in 1998

I bought the van a year ago in august within a couple of weeks i had already brought it and had to have the transmission sensor replaced. a couple of weeks later the tower on the head of the motor broke and i had to get another motor put in. i have other minor but the major problem now is the transmission sensor again and the abs brakes. i'm looking at thousands of dollars more on the top of everything else. in search for the parts at a reasonable price which is useless, one of the guys i was talking e-mailed me the recalls on that van and told me to look into it so here i am. heidi bergeron help! please i was also told about a mechanic that also looked at the van that a speed sensor is out and he claims i need a new motor plug which all they sell is the full wiring harness which is thousands of dollars more than that. i bought the van from it's original owner in july of 2002. *nlm
