The driver air bag clockspring can develop an open-circuit condition resulting in nonfunctional driver-side frontal air bag, horn, cruise control (if equipped), and/or steering wheel radio control (if equipped).in its october 5, 2004 letter to nhtsa, daimlerchrysler stated that it will conduct a safety recall and replace the clockspring assembly on all my 1998.5-2000 daimlerchrysler minivans, built between march 1998 and august 2000, with 70,000 miles or less.it will also provide a lifetime warranty for this component on my 1998.5-2000 minivans, regardless of mileage.the details of the corrective action are described in daimlerchrysler's letter (see recall no. 04v-480).the agency believes that further expenditure of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists with respect to those vehicles covered only by the lifetime warranty.the agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.see page 2 for additional information.

Campaign i 04v480000, action number ea04013. i currently have a non function airbag and horn in my 2000 grand caravan. i have called two local dealers that have both said i am covered under the above recall, however, the required part has no date for re-stock. interestingly, i can find the part widely available on the internet. so i am driving a vehicle with a non-functioning air bag, that will not pass inspection. so i see it as chrysler has found a simple way to avoid correcting a mandated recall simply by not having the part available to their dealers. is there anything that can be done about this? *tr

Dear sir's, i made an appointment and went to the dodge dealership to have a recall defective maintenance performed on the clock spring in my 2000 dodge grand caravan, which has made my driver side airbag inoperable. they advised me that the part is not in stock and that there are over 6,000 on back order. they gave me a phone number to call so that could get a reference and or case number. i was advised that by doing this i would be covered. is there further need for any other actions on my part? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that her vehicle was rear ended on january 28, 2007 while idle at a traffic light. the vehicle repair was paid for with the exception of the clockspring assembly because it was under a safety recall. the manufacturer stated that they will not reimburse the contact because the crash caused the clockspring to fail. the contact's insurance company will not reimburse the contact because the manufacturer will not provide a letter stating that the crash caused the clockspring to fail, not the safety recall. the contact stated that she never received a safety recall notice before the vehicle was repaired. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 118,000 and failure mileage was 115,000. the failure of the clockspring caused the horn and cruise control not to work. updated 06/15/07.*jb

The clockspring and steering column in our 200 dodge grand caravan has been replaced several times, including several times under warranty, yet still rattles and makes noises. i have been advised by the zone office that it is indeed a safety problem (relating to the airbag) and they recommend i continue to get it fixed each time it breaks. *ak

My wife was involved in an accident on a 4 lane road and was going approximately 40-45 mph when she hit another vehicle with almost no braking involved. neither the drive or passenger airbag deployed. this was a major selling point when we purchased this vehicle since we would be using it to transport our family. if these do not work then the chrysler corporation should do everything to the best of it's ability to ensure that anyone that buys their products should get what they have paid for. *jb

I have a 2000 dodge grand caravan. i am quite certain my clockspring has broken and my airbag light stays lit all the time, and my horn and cruise control does not work.*ak i believe chrysler has not issued a recall for the 2000 model, but only for the 1996-1998 models. yet searching the web reveals many, many problems with the 2000 models as well. this is a safey issue causes by chrysler's equippment and should be a provided free repair. chrysler does not offer to repair it for free. i am currently out of my printing career and am having difficulty finding work again, so the $250 plus to have this repaired is a heavy load at this time. chrysler should take care of this for all the 1999 and 2000 models as well. i know the nhtsa is investigating this, but with hundreds of complains already filed, how much more information does it need to act? i dont know the process, but what should i do now? this is a saftey issue, and this is our familiy vehicle. plus, the annual inspection is coming up in less than 4 months, and it will not pass without the horn and cruise and airbag broken. thank you for any information and advice you can give me. thanks again! john calogrides

I own a 2000 dodge caravan. i recently had to replace a faulty clock spring. this is something that has been recalled on earlier models and was previously under lifetime warranty. i have 53,000 miles on the car and do not feel this should have been defective. *jb

I like to file a complaint regarding 2000 dodge grand caravan. this vehicle has experienced the same problem other owners have complained about regarding the horn and air bag not functioning due to a defective clockspring harness. chrysler has refused to recall this component or acknowledge this as a safety issue other than saying it should be fixed. most mini-van owners transport families in these vehicles and it is a shame that chrysler won't do anything about it. *la

Dt: there was a recall for the clock spring/ air bag. the consumer took vehicle to the dealership and replaced it. the repair work was done on 8-22-05. they told consumer that if the air bag light stayed on indicating there is a problem. the repair work took longer than the recall notice stated that it would. after they did the recall repairs there was a problem with the air bag light fuse blowing. they replaced the fuse and it blew again. they found that there was a problem with the module. the consumer has not had the module replaced. when the consumer contacted the manufacturer, they told him that the module problem was not part of the recall, and they would give him some kind of discount for the problem with the module. the consumer stated the air bag was not working. consumer felt that the problem with the module did not come about until he had the recall work done. *ak
