Consequence SummaryFuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.

My gas tank dropped on the ground because both brackets holding the gas tank to the vehicle had rusted through. this could have been a very bad incident if i had been traveling faster on a road with heavy traffic.

After filling my 2000 dodge grand caravan with gasoline last night, i heard something give way under the car as i was driving home. i discovered the bracket holding the gas tank up had come apart. by the next morning, the gasoline tank had collapsed onto the road. when the tow truck came to haul it to the repair shop, the fuel pump pulled away from the tank and dumped the load of gasoline onto the road - a very dangerous situation.

2000 dodge grand caravan se. today, 13 sep 09, while i was driving home from work on my normal route, i suddenly lost power and had to pull over. there was smoke coming out of the back of the van and underneath, and a very strong smell of gasoline. i put my flashers on and came to a stop off the side of the road. i looked in the side view mirror and there was smoke and flames coming from underneath the van. i immediately got out and called 911. a man who pulled over to help me tried to put out the flames, but he said there was a flaming puddle under the van and a line of fire coming down from the undercarriage and he said it was a broken fuel line. the van is a total and complete loss and is now a burned out shell. had i not been able to get out and away from the vehicle in time, i could have been killed. this is not the first time i have seen a dodge vehicle catch fire and burn to the ground from a fuel line failure. *tr

Van stops for no apparent reason. just started in summer heat. transmission acted up, had it serviced---now transmission made huge noise, no reverse, loud whining, all going out. loud squeaks in supports, brakes replaced but still squealing even when pedal not pushed. horrible fogging problems, have had to pull over and wipe windows inside and out when raining. almost wrecked when vehicle stopped in traffic. can't see due to fogging when raining. just an accident waiting to happen---going to the junk yard. manufacturer needs to own up to problems. won't own another. *tr

My 2000 dodge grand caravan mini van has a 3.3l engine. early in march 2005, i had a difficult time starting the vehicle and the smell of fuel was prominent. upon a search of fulel injection problems on the internet, i found nhtsa recall notice 00v268000. this notice describes the following problem for minivans with the 3.3l and 3.8l enginges: these vehicles have fuel rails with nitrole rubber o-ring seals that can degrade over time. fuel leakage from the underhood fuel injection fuel rail could result, increasing the likelihood of a vehicle fire. i suspect that, although my vehicle is not in the recall, my problem is the same as the problem that affected the recalled vehicles. *jb

I have repeatedly taken the van in for repairs for fuel mileage and pinging under acceleration as well as rattling in the steering column, intermitant wipers will stop working intermitantly. the most resent problem is the vents on the drivers side of the dash board cannot be shut off while the heater is on, this causes my head to get very warm while my feet are cold. the wiper switch, body computer and motor have been changed at 4 seperate trips to the dealer and this has not repaired the problem. all of these complaints have caused the van to be out of service for 14 days at the dealer, none of the problems have been resolved.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY
09/14/2002108/01/2099
Fuel tank has a rubber vent ring on the top of the tank around the line which feeds fuel out of the tank. the vent dry rotted and deteriorated. the van was parked on our slanted driveway and gas began pouring out of the tank onto the driveway. the dealership and corporate headquarters have been contacted. they are firm with their position that the warranty has expired and the van was not repaired at one of their service centers, therefore they will not help with the costs of the repairs. ($737.00) the service manager at the dealership did admit this problem has never been seen before. he stated he has been asked to complete an engineering report for dodge corporate headquarters. should this car have been involved in an accident with this defective part, gas would have easily leaked from the tank causing an extreme safety hazard. dodge seems to be turning a blind eye to this problem and refusing to admit they sold me a car with a defective fuel tank. a response regarding this matter would be appreciated. dt

Sounds funny, but the problem is, mice get into our van. and we're not the only one!! when we took the car in, the dealer told us they have had other complaints, our cashier even told us her van has the same problem. our kids are always getting sick and there is mouse droppings all over the care all the time. none of our other cars have this problem. all the windows /doors are closed, but there is always fresh mice droppings in the car (we live near a field, so yes field mice are nearby) it's gotten really bad as of late, and i'm affaid our kids are going catch something. again, the dealer has said others have complained, but they can't figure out where the mice are getting in. please help, as we feel this is unsafe (yes in a different way, then most of your complaints). *ak
