The subject vehicle (sv) population includes my 2005-2006 vehicles built between march 2004 and december 2005 manufactured with a trw supplied headlight switch assembly (hsa).the hsa was the primary focus of the investigation; earlier and later vehicles utilized different hsas.consumers complain that the headlights in the subject vehicles do not illuminate when the hsa is turned on, or that the headlights extinguish while on (subject failure).no other driving lights are affected.the front marker, tail, and instrument lamps operate.also, the high beams can be illuminated by holding the turn signal stalk in the up position.as reported by consumers, turning the hsa off and on typically corrects the failure.initially the failures occur infrequently but they become progressively more frequent with age.chrysler has indicated its intention to offer of an extended lifetime warranty on the hsa, so that consumers with this problem can have their hsa replaced at no charge when they begin experiencing the subject failure.commencing sometime in early 2013, chrysler will send letters to sv owners notifying them of the lifetime warranty.the sv headlight system design is essentially the same as that described in ea 05-009, which involved headlight anomalies in earlier model chrysler minivans; refer to it to for additional information.the subject failure is caused by friction between the plastic cam and metal surfaces of the electrical contacts in the hsa, which results in the production of plastic particles (debris).analysis shows that debris can collect on the electrical contact that controls the headlights, resulting in an open circuit and preventing the headlights from turning on.subsequent operation of the hsa may temporarily displace the debris, at which time the headlights operate correctly.lubricant was applied to the plastic cam beginning in december 2005, reducing debris production.consequently, subsequent failure levels were lower.the report counts shown above include only those that involve the subject failure.reports involving other failure modes which were identified have not been included either because they were not safety related, or if they were safety related, because there was no defect trend.the single crash event listed in the failure report summary table above involved a deer strike allegedly due to loss of headlights in february 2006.no injuries were reported in this crash.an april 2004 non-crash incident (

To date, odi has interviewed several complainants who confirmed that the headlights fully extinguish, and remain extinguished, on an intermittent basis.in most cases this occurred while the vehicle was in motion.the occurrences do not show a repeatable pattern, and the problem occurs at a low frequency, typically one or more weeks between failures.for this reason most complainants have not attempted diagnosis or repair of the problem, so the cause is unknown, and the problem continues to occur.in the cases where repairs have been attempted, which consisted mainly of headlight switch and body control module replacements, mixed success is reported.in interviews complainants advised odi that they can usually toggle the headlight switch, or turn on the high beams by actuating the column stalk (pulling it upward), when the headlights unexpectedly turn off.complainants report that toggling the switch is usually effective, and the high beams have always been available when the column is used.during the course of the interviews odi was able to obtain a few suspect headlamp switches for further evaluation.no verifiable crashes or injuries have been identified in the vehicle owner complaints (voqs).chrysler notes that its complaints also include allegations of dimming or flickering of the headlights in addition to loss of headlamps, and that their analysis of available data indicates a declining trend occurring in the field.chrysler data reports two alleged crash incidents; one where a consumers vehicle lost forward lighting and struck a deer, and one where a consumer alleged their lighting stopped working, causing them to depart the roadway and drive into a ditch.a minor injury is alleged in this second incident.both incidents occurred several years ago, and neither allegation has been confirmed by odi.odi is upgrading this investigation to an engineering analysis (ea11-010) to continue its analysis of the alleged defect and its consequences, which will include additional analysis of consumer reports, their frequency and trend, and chrysler's technical information for the headlight system and its components.additionally testing will be conducted to evaluate possible root cause(s) of the alleged defect, and will include analysis of suspect components collected from the field, and/or assessment of subject vehicles that have reportedly experienced the condition.

Automatic door locks do not work. i disconnect the battery and reconnect it and it seems to correct itself for a day or two, but then goes back to being defective again. i'm aware of several other people with the same problem with this model. this should be a recall

Power locks have to be reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery every few days. since this apparently is a widespread problem, why hasn't there been a manufacturer recall to fix this defect?

The power locks on this vehicle stopped working correctly. i have looked online and many other people have the same issue. the manufacturer should have to pay to fix this issue. the only fix is to have the computer reflashed at a dealer at a cost of around $400. i have locked myself out of my vehicle a few times because the door locks will just intermittenly lock for no reason or if you put the windows down, the doors will lock. it is a mess. this is an obvious flaw with the manufacturing of the vehicle and the manufacturer should have to fix it.

Power door locks stopped working. i found articles online to disconnect battery and reconnect at which time the issue went away. after a week or so the locks stopped working again. i went to the dealer and they informed me that i needed to microcode update to correct the issue. since my mileage was above 36k there was a $175 fee. i refused to pay it since the car was under 3 years old and it was a computer issue. i contacted dodge and they refused to waive the fee. the car is now 8 years old and dodge has not released the updated microcode to any service companies and only allows dealerships to update the microcode where most will upgrade for free. i believe this is done intentionally to charge current dodge owners for poor engineering. *tr

Driver's side automatic sliding door only opens a few inches and then stops. the door will not close automatically at all i hear are loud clicks like the locks are being engaged. the door can only be opened or closed manually. the problem occurs every time either of the 2 inside buttons are pressed or the key fob button is pressed. the doors are clearly not geared for manual opening/closing, that is, they are extremely difficult to open or close manually. this is major a concern as it is very difficult to get out of the vehicle for someone sitting in any of the rear seats. *tr

Purchased vehicle used. electric doors would not work. even with the switch they would not make a sound. after reading on the internet that virtually every dodge owner has this problem i pulled the bcm and iod fuses for a few seconds and put them back in. everything now works but my research leads me to believe the fix is only temporary. driving through some neighborhoods and night with doors unlocked or condition unknown is very dangerous. i must inspect every lock before driving the vehicle and make sure they are locked. i travel the country working for the us air force and door locks become a great concern in some areas. *tr

Headlight failure to come on. side lamps, tail lights etc. worked but headlights would not work except by holding the multifunction switch in the flash high position. multifunction switch has been replaced twice after similar failures since the original problem. problem reoccurred 7/27/12 with no warning. vehicle is unsafe to drive unless you can be sure to be home before dark as the on board computer diagnostics are no help in diagnosing the issue so it's a game of russian roulette on whether the lights will work when you get in.

Apparently a faulty airbag sensor light means that possibly airbags may not deploy in a collision or accident. i have contacted the dealer from where i purchased the vehicle and also check for recalls via the internet and according to the vin # , it is not listed, but over 300,000 2005 grand caravans have. why not mine? *tr

The power door lock on the driver's side stopped working. it could only be locked/unlocked with the key. then a few weeks later the passenger side slider door lock stopped working. the door became completely inoperable since the it was stuck in the locked position. it could not even be unlocked by manually pulling on the lock...the lock was frozen. then the slider door on the drivers side started to fail intermittently. fortunately it would just remain in the unlocked position so we could still open that door. i was afraid to lock that door manually in case it also became frozen in the locked position and it would be very inconvenient to get my kids into the rear of the van. so i left it unlocked and feared items would be stolen from my vehicle. i also feared that god forbid we were in an accident we wouldn't be able to get out of the vehicle. i read many forums online about having the dealer reprogram the bcm and some people found success with this for around $100. i took my van to a dodge dealer who told me they never heard of that fix for the door locks. so i wound up spending over $1100 to have a latch and 2 power actuators replaced. needless to say i am feeling very ripped off. with so many people out there with this identical complaint, you would think dodge would issue a recall. there is obviously an issue.

Key operated electronic door locks ceased to function. can reset by removing iod fuse, but problem seems to come back in a few days or few weeks time..is a huge convience problem manually unlocking passenger doors by reaching to back seat and when you want to load some groceries into rear hatch.. also could be safety issue, especially for someone with disabilities....based on the number of complaints i see, if this can be solved with the dealer reprogramming the computer, this should be a definite safety defect and done at no cost to the owner..

The vehicle is not properly sealed. the grounds were all corroded and letting moisture or salt into components. first thing that happened was all the lights came on and then all went out. couldn't see speed or gears. i have had to replace the basic control module and having the body control module checked out today. everything under the hood is corroding at a fast pace. you can see even the metal on the engine. i hoping my wiring harness is ok. but the tech hasn't gotten that far yet.

The automatic door locks stop working. this has been discussed on the internet quite a bit. the problem is that the door will not lock or unlock with the key fob or door switch. the also do not automatically lock when the car starts moving thus creating a safety concern for kids riding in the back. removing the negative battery terminal resets it so that it works again briefly. the problem reoccurs again after a brief time.

The power locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan do not work consistently. just like the many other people experiencing the same problem, i have to take the iod fuse out for 10 seconds, and put it back in to get the power locks to work. even then, the power locks will work for maybe a few hours, and then they stop working. very frustrating. this is also a safety concern. dodge needs to recall these vehicles and fix this electronic/computer problem.

The power door locks repeatedly fail - i understand this to be a common issue with this vehicle - making it difficult to get access to vehicle from the outside, especially problematic with children in the backseats who have difficulty unlocking the doors manually. also, the passenger side power sliding door has not been operational for some time. we have also recently experienced a, as yet still undiagnosed, complete power failure in the whole electrical system - this occurred suddenly while the vehicle was traveling 65 mph with the cruise control engaged (it had been engaged for several miles). these issues range from very inconvenient to potentially hazardous.

Electric locks: after 36000 miles and no more warranty on the vehicle the power locks quit working. i found that pulling the battery would resolve the issue for a short while but it would come back again and that doing this could cause issues with how the engine ran for a while and of course the radio and clock would have to be reset. after researching the issue i found that this is known issue and that it would require a firmware upgrade on the vehicle on board computer. the manufacterer nor dealer would do this at no cost. it cost me $85.00 to get the update. i do not feel this is right and only hope that others will file complaints to get dodge to correct this and re-imburse their customers who have had to do this. as for me, this is my third dodge and will no longer buy another.

Power door locks fail to work intermittently and ultimately fail permanently. this is a particular danger when children are seated in the rear seat and doors do not lock despite being activated. this problem differs from another common problem reported for scores of this class of vehicle (see internet); the simultaneous failure of all locks requiring a computer reset to return them to operation. i attempted to report this a few days ago but the form only accepted a 10-digit vin. the automated response was not clear as to whether the report was accepted despite the partial vin constraint of the form.

The power door locks have been failing intermittently for 3 yrs. i unhook the iod fuse or the battery cable momentarily and this seems to work for a while. the door locks would work for a short time - then fail again until i repeated the fuse or battery cable removal procedure. as time went on the fix would last less & less time. currently, the locks may only work for a day or so. this is unacceptable. my wife was really scared the other day when someone was approaching the car and she could not lock the doors. she was in an unfamiliar location with the 4 year old in the back seat. while it actually turned out to be a false alarm, it did open my eyes. while i have been just fixing it all the time, i realized that i cannot control when and where it will happen and you cannot always get out and reset the fuse. this is a program (firmware) that is failing on a large number of vehicles, see links below. this poses a safety hazard as the van cannot be secured without manually locking all doors, which leaves the tailgate. why should consumers have to pay for a manufacturer defect? someone needs to protect the consumer..... i am taking the van in to request it be reprogrammed. i am not going to wait until something bad actually happens first. just a couple of links: http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/grand_caravan/2005/electrical/electric_door_lock_failure.shtml http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock

Power door locks failure!!! this problem started a month ago when the power-locks just quit working. so i followed the instructions in the car manual where you can reprogram the locks by switching the ignition key 4 times ending in the off position and then after 10 seconds turn the door lock on, a chime will sound, it did but locks still do not work. i thought it might be a fuse so i removed the iod fuse and put it back in 5 sec. the locks started to work again. this lasted about 2 or 3 times and then the problem seems to return eventually. this is a safety concern and the vehicle should be a recall. dodge should be accountable for this and made to correct the problem.

System will beep, dash lights and guages will flash and go dead. door looks also stop working. one incident of battery being drained to nothing, no emergency standby power for starting. many reports of the bcm module being the cause. can be temporarily fixed by pulling the iod fuse to reset the bcm. dodge tsb 08-040-04 reported to outline the problem. replacing the bcm not always reported to fix. flashing the bcm(updating code) more commonly reported to fix, also mention of corroded contacts being related. repair is hard to determine as any work done on the bcm will result in a reset where it will temporarily start working again.

We locked the vehicle with the remote, saw the door closing, and when we returned, the passenger sliding door was wide open! since the original failure date, this happens continuously. the door closes almost all the way, and then reverses, and opens up. we have to manually shut the sliding door (difficult) in order to close and lock it. did not notify manufacturer or dealer.

The passenger side rear door malfunctions while opening using the power open option. it opens part way and then stops or closes again. the driver side does not open at all using the power open option, only by opening manually. i am concerned for the safety of rear passengers entering/exiting the van and being struck/trapped by the door when it changes directions. it is caused by a short in the wiring harness that powers the doors which could potentially cause a fire.

My dodge mini van began to make a strange noise but i did not have the money to take it back to the dealer as they had already ripped me off for a previous failure of the egr valve (at about 30,000 miles). after that huge bill i decided to ask a friend of mine from church who is a certified mechanic to listen to my dodge. he said the power steering pump was wearing out and it would eventually need to be replaced! i could not believe this at only 65,000 miles. i wrote a letter to the chrysler corporation and had a call from one of their reps. he refused to consider that chrysler had any problems with the production of the mini van. i was supposed to call my warranty folks (warranty already out) as my power steering should not have failed. hello---does this not mean that chrysler has major responsibility in this?? as soon as i can call about my warranty i will contact the warranty company. the bottom line is- chrysler will not accept any responsibility for the safety or quality of their products. i would not have another chrysler product if they were being given away for free. when their vehicles are made unsafe to drive they will not help you or accept responsibility for their own product defects.

2005 dodge grand caravan se. headlights turn off with no warning. flipping the switch back and forth has no effect on restoring function. you just have to wait for the lights to decide to turn back on by themselves. this problem seems to occur in clusters: about 2 to 3 times in a week, and about 1 week out of every 6 to 8 months. for obvious reasons, this could be extremely dangerous.

The automatic door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt short out regularly. the keyless entry does not unlock or lock the doors, the vehicle does not lock the doors automatically when shifting into drive or reverse, and the automatic doors do not work when the door locks are malfunctioning. i can pull the iod fuse and reset the locks, but it is a temporary fix to the problem that does not work for en extended period of time. i am taking the vehicle to the dealership for repair. i am reporting this problem as it seems that many people are experiencing the same issue. this is a safety concern that seems to need resolution. i am attaching links to two forums that express the same concerns. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/grand_caravan/2005/electrical/electric_door_lock_failure.shtml http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock

My 2005 dodge grand caravan door locks stopped working and when car drives 20mph they no longer automatic lock, this is a safety issue with children. when contacting dodge they said its a software update that is needed. since when do we buy cars and then need to pay hundreds to have the software updated.with thousands of complaints on the internet with the same problems and no body wants to make this a recall. i guess dodge/chrysler are waiting for a child to be killed before making this a recall. if any of my children get hurt there will be a lawsuit.

I like many other 2005 dodge caravan owners has experienced a automatic door lock failure. after taking the van out once door locks operated perfectly, upon 2nd trip that day i noticed when i went to lock the doors with the remote they did not lock, i tried the internal door lock switch it did not work. i was advised (via website) to pull the 20a iod fuse and replace it which i did and the locks worked for about three cycles and stopped again. the doors no longer lock upon shifting into gear either which means the passenger doors (where the children sit) do not lock while on the road and can be opened while the vehicle is in motion without the effort of pulling up the door lock stem. i am going to take it to the dealer for a computer update which i am told sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. the next step is to replace the module at considerable cost.

Steering column switch controlling turn signals, windshield wipers. intermittent failure of wipers, washer, turn signals and turn signal reversal (indicate turn right signal for left actuates) to correct on a short term operating the tilt function corrects failure temporarily. this event occurs regularly at least every other time vehicle is used. dealer can not replicate failure. i am a automotive quality engineer trained in root cause and corrective actions this failure in my opinion is due to the harness connection either wire pull out or connector failure. i have had wipers fail during heavy rain driving. turn signals indicating incorrect direction nearly causing a rear end collision and washer not operate while driving in salt laden conditions. i have spoken to many owners who indicate this is an issue in their caravan as well.

Doors do not lock/unlock when you press the automatic door lock/unlock button on either the keyless entry system or the the door itself. veichle was taken to dealership who says that there is no problem with them and they are not aware of anyone else complaining. internet is full of complaints from consumers on issue.

2005 grand caravan - dashboard lights flicker, gauges go crazy, radio dies and sometimes engine stalls. we have noticed these events occur after driving the van 30 minutes or more. where as the flickering was an annoyance the stalling issue could be hazardous if this should occur on the highway. some online resarch has said a possible problem with a wiring harness but my closest dealership cant find the issue.

Electronic door lock and unlock feature fails. there are only 2 doors where a manual key entry is available, the drivers door and tailgate. this also disavbles opening the sliding side doors as they won't automatically unlock. also disabled are the automatic door locking at speed for safety. you can temporily fix this by disconnecting the fuse or battery for a short time and reconnecting. there are numerous complaints on the internet about this problem. dodge should fix this on a recall.

A 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt. the cluster gauges will bounce around and the lights, radio, etc., flicker. the car has died while idling. it has died when accelerating to turn at a stop light. it has died while stopped at a stop light. occasionally the car will not restart right away after it has died. i have not been in an automobile accident as of yet, but i am extremely concerned that this could lead to me and my children (whom i almost always have in the car with me) being involved in an accident. occasionally the wind shield wipers have just stopped working and the electric doors won't work and other random electrical issues. we have taken the car to the dealership and they told us that the battery had an internal short in it. so they replaced the battery and said that all was fixed. that worked for about a week and now we are back to square one. i have found many complaints about this problem on different websites from people with the same year of van and no one seems to have found a working solution. i think it is rediculous that dodge can not seem to fix this problem or doesn't seem to know what the problem is when there are so many other people with the same issue. this is defintiely a potentially life-threatening defect in this van and should be addressed asap!!!

We own a 2005 dodge grand caravan with 74.000 miles on it. the power locks will repeatedly lock when i use my keyless remote entry or the overhead consel buttons to open the sliding doors. these doors should be unlocking but instead everything is locking. while i'm driving, i can hear the clicking of the locks re-locking even though they are in the locked position. this happens when the rear wiper is running or i press and release the window control button. sometimes i hit the power lock button on the driver door to lock all doors but nothing locks. i have had this happen before, but for shorter periods of time. with 5 doors of entry, i never know if my car is truly locked.

I am concerned about my 2005 dodge caravan. i have been experiencing power surges while driving for the past 6 months or so. the other issue i am having is my headlights turning off randomly while i am driving. it some times takes up to 5 minutes to get them to come back on. that has been happening since august of 2009. so far i have not had any accidents, but i have had some close calls. i have had to pull over in because it is dark and i don't have any lights. recently i have been having more frequent power surges where my lights flicker, my gauges go haywire and my radio turns on and off. i recently brought it in to have it looked at and my mechanic contacted chrysler because he couldn't figure out what was wrong. chrysler told them they have had several other reports of this and some of them have resulted in fire. they would not release a way to fix it because they don't know how yet. i am very concerned for my family, i have 2 young kids that are frequently riding in this vehicle. i am worried that it will start on fire while driving it and my family could be injured. i would like a resolution for this problem asap. i feel that chrysler should make this a top priority because there are lives at stake. *tr

Electric locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan have stopped working. the vehaicle is supposed to automatically lock at a certain speed to insure saftey of children inside. i have found this is the number one complaint on this vehicle. why has dodge not been made to recall and repair this--or at least come up witha reasonable and cost efficient way to correct this???

2005 dodge grand caravan - door locks stop working at random times; electrical surges. please check the online message boards related to this issue. there are hundreds of incidents (like mine) that i have counted so far. we have 4 children and only one way to enter or exit the vehicle! we have spent hundreds so far on fixes that are only temporary. based on the number of complaints i have read after just 30 minutes of searching the web, there is no way chrysler is not aware of this hazard... *tr

Recently my automatic door locks on my van have stopped working. after researching on the net about how to fix it, i noticed many many people with the exact same situation! how is this not made a recall by now? how can we get this to become a recall? the fix to my problem was explained on the net, to pull out the fuse and after 5 seconds to plug it back in. i did that and it worked however, many people say this is not a permanent solution. i now have problems with my interior and headlights flickering, as if they were going to the sound of music. it seems as though there could be a short somewhere causing electrical problems. can you please help us to obtain a recall in this matter? i sincerely hope you consider! just research it on the net yourself and you will see many complaints! *tr

About one week ago i got back from buying groceries, and when i parked, got out and was going close the door, i heard the warning sound. the same sound that rings when you leave your keys in the ignition or the headlights on, but i had the keys in my hand and the lights were all off. from then on the power locks will not unlock or lock by either the remote or the door switch. i read online that removing the iod fuse for 5 seconds and replacing it would work, and it did, but many on the online forum also said this was temporary and that it would happen again. i'm sure thousands of people have complained, please make this a recall. :( *tr

The headlights come on and go off on their own. sometimes they won't come on. sometimes they won't go off. they have come back on and killed the battery. they have even gone off while i was driving down the road at night in a rainstorm. this is very dangerous. *tr

Headlights would not work...drove about a mile when someone flashed their headlights at me. pulled into a parking lot and realized that only my parking lights were on. the lights on the dashboard were still on, so i was unaware that i had no headlights. took about 4 times turning the van on and off before they came back on...very dangerous situation! *tr

Driving at night, when dimming lights, headlights went out. this has happened three time in less than 100,000 miles. by holding dimmer switch control in up (bright lights) lights stayed on. after a period of time the lights again worked properly. when taken to a dealer, technicians could not duplicate the problem. *tr

I'm writing to request that an investigation is conducted into the failure of the automatic door locks of the 2005 dodge caravan. please review the following website for multiple incident reports of the same issue: http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/grand_caravan/2005/electrical/electric_door_lock_failure.shtml i have owned a 2005 dodge caravan for 3 years now. the problem is that the power door locks stop functioning completely on the vehicle. the fact that there is only 1 keyhole on the vehicle on the driver side door makes for loading and unloading children from the vehicle very difficult. the driver side door needs to be unlocked and the driver needs to reach throughout the vehicle to pull up the lock knobs to open the other doors. i'm hoping that the outcome of the investigation is that dodge will be required to repair the problem without any cost to the many dodge customers that this problem has affected. *tr

Sliding power door will not close. sounds like the motor is not working properly. will open to close partly but will not close to lock. i had to tie a cord through that door then loop it around the passenger's door to keep it shut until i get it to the dealership. this happened late at night so the van sat i the drive unlocked. *tr

I went on line to see how many customer complaints there is regarding my 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt. the problem i have with the safety issue is by turn signal don't function correctly. for example when i turn the signal for left it goes right and vise versa. sometimes the signals don't come on at all. well there's several complaints regarding this issue and i think it should be recall or fix due to the defect which is a safety issue. *tr

The other day my automatic locks ceased to work in the 2005 grand caravan sxt. the door switch, key remote and when the car goes over 20mph did not lock the doors at all. have looked in the manual, no help. from what i understand, i will have to take the van in to the dealer to have them change the software in the body control module. since there is no recall on this, i will have to pay $150-200 to have it repaired. since this is such a safety issue, we will take the van in, but after reading the internet sites--many other people are having this problem. i have also had several problems with the lights going off without notice (while i have them switched on). eventually they will come back on, but there are times they do not come back on while i am driving. another safety issue reported on the internet by other users. this has happened several times a year since i have had the van. electrical problems exist with this van and have since i purchased it new. lights going on and off, doors not working when buttons were pushed (should be automatic after buttons pushed), windows not working at all when button is pushed (eventually work--happens several times a year) and now the locks do not work at all. the door controls were eventually replaced by the dealer under warranty because they eventually would open so slowly. this problem was reported to the dealer over six times in the first year of ownership. replaced and have worked fine since. *tr

2005 dodge caravan - the automatic door locks do not work. i have investigated several solutions, have tried them, and they only work temporarily, such as battery disconnects, fuse replacement, software updates. i am very concerned because my grandchildren are small and i am afraid they will open the doors and i cannot not catch them in time because i cannot get to the back seat. i have read numerous complains about this problem. i feel that a recall is needed. *tr

The headlights on my 2005 dodge grand caravan either randomly turn off (briefly) while driving, or they won't turn on when switched on. after playing with the switch some, they will turn eventually turn on. a website that i used to find out information regarding this issue indicated that this is not an isolated issue. *tr

Power door locks stopped working. checked owners manual to figure out which fuse to check and it didn't list the fuse for power door locks. did an online search for my vehicle make, model and year and found that lots of people have this problem. they say pull iod fuse for five seconds and then put it back in. the fuse is not even blown, but it needs to be removed for at least five seconds and then put back in and the power locks work again. this has now happened to me twice in two weeks. this is a safety issue because if you are in the car with your children in the back seats in their car seats and the doors won't unlock and you need to get them out quickly in an emergency the only doors that have a key hole to use the key from the outside are the drivers side and the trunk.*tr

Power door locks don't work with switch or remote like all the other complaints for the 2005 caravans. what the others don't include is that the only way to open the rear hatch is electronically and it is also disabled when the power locks don't work. if for some reason this was the only way to get a child out there would be no chance to rescue them other that breaking out the glass. *tr

Our used 2005 dodge grand caravan worked perfectly for about a year until strange things started to happen to the electrical system. the van will loss all power, just like removing the battery, a few times a week and it remains dead for about 60 seconds. also periodically, the instrument cluster gauges will act crazy, the odometer will pulsate as well as the headlights, the side electronic doors will cease to function and about twice all electronics in the vehicle died except the odometer yet the car was running normally. i have replaced the battery, alternator, ignition switch and body control module
04/14/2009480001
2005 dodge grand caravan 48,000 miles. power door locks failed. disconnected battery and cleaned terminals: locks worked for a week. replaced battery and they worked for another week. consulted web forum, which recommended removing door lock fuse for 5 seconds. this worked for another week. now believe that body control module (bcm) needs replacing, which is expensive (over $700). web forums reveal hundreds of same complaints about '05 caravan. big safety problem is that when remote lock is activated, horn beeps, signifying doors are locked, though they are not. this poses the danger that someone could enter the van at night undetected and assault the driver or hijack the car when owner returns. chrysler corp. should be compelled to fully repair this fault by a general recall. *tr

The automatic locks just suddenly stopped working, which is a huge safety issue on a minivan with kids. i went online and discovered tons of people had the same problem with 2005 grand caravan/caravan. there is a quick, temporary fix of removing the 10d 20a fuse or the negative cable on the battery, but the problem apparently recurs with ever diminishing periods of time in between. the permanent fix is apparently an update to the software, which clearly states that dodge/chrysler is aware of the problem, that it is a problem with their engineering, and that they are only too happy to take money from consumers to fix a safety problem inherent in their faulty design. it should be recalled and fixed by them before we start hearing about tragedies, especially as this occurs without notice. *tr

11/10/2008760001
The door locks open or close from the switches or the smart key buttons. they also do not lock at twenty mph as designed. this due to a known failure of the body controller in the vehicle, however the dealers i have spoken to say 'yes', this is a known problem that consistently comes up after warranty periods. this failure puts the occupants of the vehicle (mini van) at risk when locks don't work as designed, especially considering that the van only can unlocked with the key at the driver's door. *tr

Head lights, dash lights and radio lights keep flickering. i have took my dodge grand caravan back to a chrysler/dodge dealership 7 or 8 times so far in less than 1 year for this same problem. body control module, alternator and several other electrical circuits have been replaced and i am still having problems. sometimes it is so severe that the headlights and dash lights completely go out and come back on. i drive a lot of highway miles 1/3 of it in the dark. it is very unsafe for me to drive without lights, but i have no other option if i want to remain employed. please let me know what i can do about this. *tr

Power door locks broke twice on my 2005 dodge grand caravan. i had to pay $100 to get it reprogrammed and then it happened again. there are over 36 complaints on the web page about this from people you can check it out at http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml this should be recalled and i should get my money back like all these other people. *tr

The power door locks on our 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt stopped working, including the auto-lock feature when the vehicle hits 20 mph. the internal power locks did not work and using the remote to lock or unlock the vehicle also did not work. the internal auto side door opener mounted with the information center did not work as well as the chimes that sound when the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open. after searching the internet, i found that pulling the oid fuse for 5 seconds had worked for a large number of other people who all have encountered this problem. pulling and reinserting the fuse has corrected the problem for the time being.  The locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan no longer work. i am reading forum after forum and everyone with this year model is having the same problem. they are saying that dodge dealerships are having to replace the body control module and some are having to be reflashed. this is a huge problem, because the lights flash and you are unaware that your car is not being locked. it is open and vulnerable for all to enter. i only noticed this as i locked it (i thought) and then had to get right back in for something. this is a common problem among this year of vehicle and needs to have someone look into it. *tr

Multiple electrical failures. backup lights, door locks, interior lights, right side power window, and sliding side doors. the items do not function on our van. upon pulling the battery terminal these items will work for a short period of time and then cease to function again. after extensive research on the internet and several hundred dollar in dealer repairs i have discovered that this is due to a software problem with the body control module on the 2005 dodge grand caravans. the fix is supposed to be a firmware update to the bcm provided by dodge. the issue i have is that if this is a software/firmware update to the van's computer why should the dealer expect me to pay $70 so my vehicle will function properly the same as it did when purchased. no modifications have been made to the van and it currently has just over 60k mileage. these problems have been around prior the end of the 3/36k warranty but since such a long time has passed the dealer will no longer honor any type of warranty on this vehicle. my complaint is that if this is a known software issue/fault with the van's software then dodge should upgrade them for free. it's not as if this is a wear and tear or customer induced failure. this is a fault in the core design of the vehicle. *tr

Radio was replaced. intermittent failure of electrical system while driving started after replacement. the only pattern to events is they start with application of the brakes. all of the gauges gyrate post to post, the radio shuts off and restarts and the dash lights and headlights flicker. the car eventually dies and will not restart until several minutes have past. after restarting , the dash lights continue to flicker for a period of time. i have taken the van to the radio installer, two independent mechanics and a dodge dealer. no one can duplicate or fix the problem. the last time this happened my wife was on the freeway when an incident started. it created a dangerous situation as she tried to exit the freeway in rush hour traffic. she was able to exit, but the van died on the offramp and blocked traffic. after several attempts the van started and she was able to complete exiting the freeway. *tr

The locks on my 2005 dodge caravan stop working. after searching on the internet for a fix or other people with this problem, they suggested pulling the iod fuse for 20 seconds and replacing the fuse. i did so and it fixed the problem for today. i do not know if this will continune to fix the problem or not but it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem. i would like to file this complaint so a recal will be issued to fix the problem. just pulling the fuse will not fix the problem permanently. thank you

Vehicle--dodge grand caravan (2005)- was traveling about 30 miles an hour and right front fender/light area struck concrete barrier. immediately upon impact, sparks came shooting out, tire caught on fire and car burst into uncontrollable flames. the entire car was torched and declared a total loss. pictures are available. after talking to body shop, from estimation of structure damage from impact was approximately $2000-3000, however now because of fire, the van is a total loss. i literally have 3 tires and a license plate remaining. *tr

We may be having two separate problems with the 2005 grand caravan. the issue of primary concern was that the vehicle occasionally, and for no apparent reason , died while being driven. since we owned the vehicle this happened on four different occasions. when the vehicle died we lost the ability to steer or stop. on all occasions we have been going at speeds of less than 35 mph. on the last occasion while making a right turn on a red light the vehicle died 1/4 of the way into the turn. had the steering wheel not been turned prior to the vehicle stalling we would have been going straight into the crossing traffic with no way of stopping or turning away. i am a mother of 4 children and was in the vehicle alone at the time. luckily none of my children were with me, and the vehicles around me were paying attention. i started the vehicle, and was able to drive home without having the problem again. on the other occasions the problem persisted until my husband was able to get up to speeds greater than 35 mph. we took the vehicle to our local dodge dealer twice for this problem, and they could not reproduce the problem either time. no repairs were been made to the vehicle in this regard. the above sounded very similar to the nhtsa action # pe05027. our second issue may or may not be related to the above and we considered it a nuisance. we included this information with the thought that it could be a symptom of above that others were experiencing. the same failure. the vehicle will not start sporadically. when we tried to start it all of the needle gauges on the dashboard will shoot to the right, and then drop back down to the left, and bounce around on the left quarter of the gauge. we attempt to jump start the vehicle and after several tries it will start up. there did not seem to be a correlation between the two problems , beyond they both appeared to be electrical. *ak

2005 dodge grand caravan sxt intermittently shuts off/ stalls and power cuts out while driving, parking, stopping at traffic lights. we've been extremely fortunate that we haven't gotten into an accident with this vehicle since the problem can occur while doing 65 mph on the highway or 30 mph on local streets. *ak we've been experiencing the problem since a month into owning the vehicle. the problem has occured 9 times in the last 2.5 years. we've brought the van to the dealer numerous times with the same complaint, yet they are unable to determine what is causing the problem. the most recent incident (last month, feb 2007) where we experienced stalling and loss of power in the van, the dealer had a co-pilot diagnostics device setup in the van and it didn't get any readings when the problem occured because the electrical system shuts down (when the problem occurs). the dealer has since asked us to continue to drive the van with the co-pilot in it and press the button if we think the problem is going to occur. since we seem to know about as much as the dealer regarding what causes this issue to occur.... we're basically putting ourselves at risk anytime we drive the vehicle.

I am concerned with overall quality control on this vehicle. i purchased this vehicle new to provide safety and comfort for my growing family. i was disappointed in the vehicles performance and gas mileage during the first several weeks of ownership. i returned the vehicle to the dealership and they replaced the oxygen sensor units that they said where defective. several months later the heater/air conditioning blower went out. next with less than 20,000 miles on the vehicle i had to replace the brakes. now with less than 28.000 miles on the vehicle i noticed that the passenger side floor was soaked, the vehicle was making unusual sounds when turning and the passenger side door would not close automatically. at the dealership i found out that the rack and pinion steering unit had failed along with the the cable on the passenger side door. on investigation of the water leak the dealership found that the passenger side pillar had not been sealed properly to the roof causing water to run into the van and rot the carpet. while the vehicle is in for repairs the dealership is also replacing the heater/air conditioner blower which is making grinding sounds again. *nm

I purchased a cpo 05 grd caravan from a local dealer. within months the electric door locks would go up and down while unlocking the doors by the key, would go up and down while traveling down the road & while opening the electric windows while inside the van..* * the steering wheel would lock up while pulling out onto the road. my wife and kids could have been killed by the approaching fully loaded log truck. the van was taken to the lithia in roseburg & was informed of the issued. it was inspected and the reply was that they could not find any problems & they said they could not get the door locks to go up and down. the van was taken in a 2nd time on 07/28/2006 with the same issues, again they kept the rig and told us they could not get the door locks to do anything. on 04/07/2006 the van was taken in to lithia after kendall said that they could not work on the van because of us buying it from lithia. so the van was returned to lithia with the same problems along with the rt rear brake light staying ..you know the sad thing is i still own 15k on this van. the steering on the van locked up again while traveling down the road and almost caused an accident with my wife and kids in the van. i just pray that when we take it in for the 4th time and we leave it at the dealership to fix, that they will get it done right and that if we either keep the van or trade it off that nobody gets killed from this major safety issue. i feel that i have been shafted due to having a cpo and dodge dealers are not able to do their job due to skills or ?. i sure hope that if you are in an accident and your unable to get out of the van due to the door locks you don't burn up or if you can not open the door that hopefully somebody can get the door open from the outside of the van. oh i forgot, when i go over a speed bump it sounds like the engine is going to drop out. *nm

On jan 22,05 i had my 05' dodge grand caravan in the dealership because my air bag light had come on, they supposedly replaced my sensor along w/ my wiring harness, well on feb 26 06 my air bag light came on again, the dealership deal maker said i could bring my car in but i'll have to pay for it to be checked along w/ any repair, and this is because my warranty had expired. i don't feel i am responsible to pay for any repair on this. none the less for them to supposedly replace my sensor last year, along w/ my wiring harness and spark plugs beause of misfiring etc. to have bought this car used in nov of 04 and then to have it in on jan 05 is a little ridiculous. i have 40 some thousand miles on my car. and this issue should of been done correct the first time. *nm

Cathedral city dodge refused to work on the recall because the vehicle was modified. the recall problem had nothing to do with the modifications but cathedral city dodge refused to work on it.. after several heated conversations with management cathedral city dodge returned my vehicle with a dead battery, and a leak in my engine and did not fix the recalled item. after i received my vehicle i noticed that the new problems with my vehicle had nothing to do with the modifications but were independent from any modifications previously made to my vehicle. after complaining to the dodge corporation i was referred to the dodge service center in laquinta. there my car was equipped with a new battery and the recall item was not fixed because the manager refused to work on the vehicle because of the modifications. i called laquinta dodge to complain and my vehicle was returned to me with the engine leak, the unserviced recall item and now in doesn't shift into gear. the cathedral city service center and the laquinta service center didn't even check to see if the problems were in anyway way connected to the modifications. they just refused to even look at it. now there is another recall on my dodge grand caravan that has to do with the airbags and laquinta is refusing to work on it. in summary my vehicle arrived in palm springs fully operational in june 2006 and ever since the first contact with cathedral city service center my vehicle has been inoperable. between the cathedral city and laquinta dodge service centers my car now has an engine leak, a bad heating coil, defected airbags problems shifting into gear and does not start. my vehicle was fully operational and had 80 miles on it when it arrived at cathedral city dodge in 2006 and now has 87 miles on it and is in operable. that?s 87 miles not 8,700 or 87,000 miles. it has only 87 miles because it hasn't been running since cathedral city and laquinta dodge have damaged my vehicle. *jb

I recently had my 2005 dodge grand caravan, 28000 miles, serviced only to find out that my front brakes are 100% gone, my throttle body is plugged up, and i had no power steering fluid. of course, as the dealership tells me, the warranty does not cover any of these repairs that need to be done.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that all of the power door locks were inoperative. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that it was a common failure with his year, make, and model vehicle. the bcm software would have to be repaired at the cost of $130. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance because there was no recall for this component. the failure and current mileages were 34,417.

I have 2005 dodge grand caravan. the automatic door locks have quit working and i understand that it is a software issue in the cpu. my main concern is that when you put it in drive and begin to move, the doors are supposed to lock when you get to 18mph or so. i have 4 year old twins that ride in car seats, and am not comfortable not having this feature working properly. it is also my understanding that the problem is very widespread among this model of vehicle. my hopes are that the problem can be addressed by dodge as i feel it is a safety hazard. thank you. *tr

 (1) loss of battery power. (2) resulted in failure of power door locks to operate. (3) manufacture technical service bulletin 08-040-04 calls for re-programming of body control module due to updated software to correct the know failure. known software related issue. *tr

Electronic door locks failed to engage locks. lock verification signaled lights and horn indicating the locks were engaged. as a result of the failure the van was entered illegally and property was stolen. this was also a safety issue when the electronic locking system did not disengage from the controls in the van. this resulted in the inability to remove 3 children from the van quickly in an emergency situation. the body control module (bcm) has been reset several times to correct the problem. the reset only lasts for a few days before the problem repeats itself. *tr
