Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that after placing her vehicle into gear, the automatic door locks do not engage. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000. the current mileage was approximately 90,000.

Power door locks stopped working. i found articles online to disconnect battery and reconnect at which time the issue went away. after a week or so the locks stopped working again. i went to the dealer and they informed me that i needed to microcode update to correct the issue. since my mileage was above 36k there was a $175 fee. i refused to pay it since the car was under 3 years old and it was a computer issue. i contacted dodge and they refused to waive the fee. the car is now 8 years old and dodge has not released the updated microcode to any service companies and only allows dealerships to update the microcode where most will upgrade for free. i believe this is done intentionally to charge current dodge owners for poor engineering. *tr

Power door locks stopped working completely from both interior switches and key fob. will not lock or unlock any of the 5 doors from interior. manually able to lock and unlock doors individually. unable to lock back hatch with key or from inside vehicle. safety problem with 1 and 3 year old that need to have doors locked while vehicle is in motion. also unsafe for young children to be standing outside vehicle while unlocking driver's door with key then manually d/s rear door. children are unnecessarily standing outside vehicle while doors are manually unlocked. *tr

Our door locks stopped working with both the unlock button and the remote key. we cannot unlock our doors unless we do it manually, and there is now no way to lock the back hatch. there is only one key hole and this is a major safety issue. *tr

The locks keep stop working and it needs to be reset by removing the fuse, read on the internet that almost everybody with this type of van experiences this problem should be a recall. locks finally gave out all the way and will not open anymore. *tr

During routine stop, noticed that the door locks would not work. this wasn't a concern at first until i noticed that the doors would not lock when the vehicle was in motion as well. i feel this is a huge safety issue that daimler chrysler is ignoring and leaving families with the burden of repairing this expensive issue. this is a safety issue and nothing else that dodge should fix for its loyal customers. *tr
07/31/2012465001
The power door locks stopped working by the cabin switch and the remote. i consider this a safety hazard. chrysler has a program update for this problem but charges to have it installed. i understand this update was released in 2004. *tr

The power locks on the 2005 dodge caravan completely quit working . a quick fix is to pull the iod fuse for five seconds and put it back . it will work for a little while then locks gone again. though the vehicle does automatic lock at 15mph still. this poses a issue because if in an accident you would have to manually unlock the doors to get out .forums have been posting this issue for awhile while dodge will not recall. this is not the only electrical issue the resister to the blower motor will continuously go out . personally i have had to change my 4 times in one year already. i believe dodge needs to find a permanent solution to its electrical issues before something worse happens.

The door locks have failed repeatedly, and cannot be operated with either the remote key or with the power switchs inside the car. the temporary fix is to open the engine compartment to remove and reinsert the iod fuse. the permanent fix is to pay the dealer a lot of money to update the bcm software for the vehicle. this is not just an inconvenience, but also a safety issue due to theft vulnerability and passenger personal safety compromise.

Power door locks not working, they either won't lock or unlock until you pull the iod fuse, this fixes it until a few days later. i have to continue to do this several times a week. this is a safety issue, if you were involved in an accident or fire of a vehicle you may not have time to unlock the doors or if the door locks are not locking and your going down the road and a kid could open the door. this problem needs to be recalled before a tragedy happens.

I own a 2005 dodge grand caravan. at approximately 50,000 miles, the electric door locks quit working. when you use the key fob or lock switch, the actuator makes a sound but the locks (on all doors) will not lock/unlock. this is apparently a common issue on this year of caravan and there is no known fix. creates a safety issue when my children are riding in the car and the doors are unlocked and/or when we can't get into the car as only the drivers door can be unlocked using the key.

2005 dodge grand caravan - the power door looks quit working on the 2005 dodge grand caravan due to a deffective computer programming in the dodge computers. there are thousands experiencing this problem which can be temporarily fixed by pulling a fuse and replacing it, but the real fix requires dodge to re-program the computer. this is a signficant safety issue and must be addressed by dodge. i have found many with the same problem.

At 32,050 miles, the power door locks on our 2005 dodge grand caravan suddenly failed to work. this was discovered after parking the car and turning off the ignition. the inside door lock switches and key fobs couldn't operate the locks, despite the usual accompanying parking light flickers and horn toots when the key fobs were tried. i discovered that 75 other drivers reported the same problem on the following website: http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml the customer input on this website provides useful information about the problem and what may be causing it, as well as chrysler's apparent indifference to it. i was able to restore operation by pulling and reinserting a 20a fuse (marked iod), which as i understand it resets the computer. the solution to the problem may be the reprogramming of the vehicle's computer. i have no idea why that should be necessary after 30,000+ miles driven and no new accessories installed or modifications made to the car. it sounds like a defective software glitch to me. this could have dire consequences when prompt opening of all the vehicle's doors is needed during emergencies, and many families with children depend upon minivans like ours.

2005 dodge grand caravan, door locks fail to lock/unlock. remote key sounds, lights flash, to all apearences the locks seem to have functioned but looking down thru the windows the locks have not changed state. this vehicle has one door lock on the drivers door and one the tailgate. in a emergency this limits access to passengers, the false sense of security implyed by the horn and lights as positive feedback that the locks functioned is poor enginering. dodge service states that flashing the bcm module will repair the fault at 79.00 charge. if the problem is software it is my hope there will be a recall for this problem.

2005 dodge caravan the power sliding doors on both sides started with only opening or closing a small amount now they don't do anything at all. the doors are no longer power doors the only way to get them open is manually. i did a search to try and find out what the problem could be and found 1000's of complaints of the same issues. my van has had problems from the get go when we purchased it , they wold fix it and it would work for a while and then the same problems would start again this happened over and over and now the warranty has expired. i would like to know what needs to happen to start a recall or a class action law suit against them?

Our dodge grand caravan locks stopped working (neither the keys or the automatic button work). my husband has looked up a quick fix (pulling the iod fuse and reinserting it). however this keeps happening and it is a safety issue because you can't get into or out of your vehicle quickly. especially for families with young children.

My 2005 dodge grand caravan's power locks have stopped working. this is a safety hazard as there is only one lock on the drivers side. i guess a recall won't happen until a child is injured or someone is raped/killed because they couldn't get into their car quick enough. i am calling the dealer to take care of this problem and i will never buy a dodge again. they clearly do not care for the safety and well being of their customers.

The door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan would lock or unlock themselves after pressing the switch on the door. they have now quit working all together even quit locking at 18 mph. i tried using the switch on the doors and do not get a reaction. i tried the remote and they will not respond. they worked 10 minutes earlier. i tried a couple hours later and still nothing. i have two small children and having the door locks is a hugh safety issue. now i even feel uncomfortable putting my kids in my van and walking around the other side with my keys and remote in my hand fearing that the locks might not unlock when should. i have visited numerous sites and found a large number of people with the same problem and temporary fixes or very expensive repairs. please investigate this issue for the safety of small children that travel in these vehicles. the issues with the locks started in 2008 off and on and continued to get worse.

The auto door locks stop working in my 2005 dopdge grand caravan. this makes it very difficult with kids to get in and out of the car as on the driver's door has a key entry. i consider this a safety hazard especially with children becuase of the time it takes to lock and unlock the car. we risk car jacking or inablility to leave the car quickly if there was danger. this is a problem widely reported on the internet. yet, dodge dealership claims that have not heard of this problem and is going to charge $100 to diagnose the problem.

06/01/201040523
Power door locks stop working on dodge grand caravan 2005 model. this now happens everyday. when this happens it may allow occupants to be thrown from the vehicle in cases of accident or allow unwanted persons to enter the vehicle without forced entry. initially this could be temporarily fixed by removal and re-insertion of the iod fuse under the hood. this procedure now does not work anymore. it is my understanding that this is a software issue that dodge must fix with a upgrade.
05/10/2010120000
Failure of the auto door locking mechanism to work while driving the car or trying to lock car upon exiting the vehicle. i temporarily fixed the problem by removing the iod 20 amp fuse for 20 seconds and then replacing it thus resetting the system and then it works again. my research leads me to believe a fault in the bcm firmware of the main computer module for this car. this could be very dangerous in case of a accident as you cannot unlock the doors inside or outside with the remote if the doors are locked manually other than the drivers door with the key in case of an accident.

 1. power sliding doors on my 2005 dodge grand caravan opened about 6 inches then stop. now they have stopped working altogether 2. the failure is constant 3. i have checked both fuses and relays. i took it into my electrical mechanic but he could not run a diagnostic because only chrysler diagnostic tools can read the doors.

2005 dodge grand caravan. vin [xxx]. power door locks will not function at all. can only lock each door manually and separately. beginning in 2007, i took the vehicle to the dealer on four separate occasions to have the problem corrected. dealer followed guidelines each time and told me the problem was corrected. each time the problem returned within a few days. i can neither lock or unlock the doors of the vehicle using the key fob or the door lock switch inside the vehicle. i searched online to see if others were having this same problem, and i immediately found that the door lock issue was the most reported problem for the 2005 dodge grand caravan. there seems to be no fix for the problem when taking the vehicle to the dealer. many customers have reported the same experience that i encountered. they took their caravan to the dealer to get the problem corrected and work was done on the vehicle, only to have the problem recur within a few days or so. i have not been able to find one single customer online who reports they have been able to get a permanent solution for this issue, and chrysler corporation seems to be ignoring and even denying that the issue exists. please help if possible!!! *tr

Electronic door lock and unlock feature fails. there are only 2 doors where a manual key entry is available, the drivers door and tailgate. this also disavbles opening the sliding side doors as they won't automatically unlock. also disabled are the automatic door locking at speed for safety. you can temporily fix this by disconnecting the fuse or battery for a short time and reconnecting. there are numerous complaints on the internet about this problem. dodge should fix this on a recall.

2005 dodge grand caravan-locked van prior to going to dinner . noted it did not lock all the doors. had to go in and manually lock all doors. not sure how to lock the trunk. when we came out could not unlock doors had to go to only keyed lock and then send my son in to unlock the rest. went to internet and found researched problem. found i am not alone. pulled fuse and reinstalled. this works for a short period of time before it has to be done again. no warning when it will happen. wife is not big on doing this and i can't blame her. car alarm sounds like alarm is set but unless you visually check you can't be sure. aka van has been left unlocked when we thought it was ? in addition to a huge pain in the but this is a real safety issue when on tight streets with small kids(we have 5) .unlocking the van and resetting the fuse or fumbling around to unlock the doors is not right. *tr

We own a 2005 dodge grand caravan with 74.000 miles on it. the power locks will repeatedly lock when i use my keyless remote entry or the overhead consel buttons to open the sliding doors. these doors should be unlocking but instead everything is locking. while i'm driving, i can hear the clicking of the locks re-locking even though they are in the locked position. this happens when the rear wiper is running or i press and release the window control button. sometimes i hit the power lock button on the driver door to lock all doors but nothing locks. i have had this happen before, but for shorter periods of time. with 5 doors of entry, i never know if my car is truly locked.

Headlights will not turn on and have turned off (on their own) while driving. this has happened before and i had to mess with the switch repeatedly on multiple occassions before the lights would come back on. also, the door locks stop locking/unlocking and we have to pull the fuse, then put it back in for them to work again. vehicle is a 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt model and the automatic door locks no longer function. this appears to be a common problem with this make/model year. this is no safe as the only way to unlock vehicle is with key at drivers side door. there are no other doors with key access. this could be very dangerous in a crash or other emergency situation

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan and have had nothing but electical problems with it. our automatic sliding door on passenger side has been repaired once already and quit working about 6 months later. our power door locks now will not work with either the key fob or from inside on the switch. the lights on the dash go out and come on a various times. these are serious issues and dealerships are charging an arm and leg to just look at it and you still aren't guaranteed how long it will remain functional.

2005 dodge caravan power door locks quit working. only 55,000 miles on vehicle. there is only one keyed entry into the vehicle, making this a safety threat. this is a well-known issue that is reported on numerous websites, including www.carcomplaints.com. problem seems to be widespread on the caravan and town & country models, occurring between 50-70,000 miles. chrysler/dodge is not recognizing this as a systemic issue with the platform although frequency of occurrence would suggest otherwise.
03/13/201065000
My 2005 dodge grand caravan power locks have quit working. it happened back in 2006 when i bought the van. i have reset the fuse several times but now it gets shorter and shorter between resets. several other dodge grand caravan owners are having this same problem. my wife drives the kids in this van and not knowing if the van locks or not is very dangerous. when locked everything sounds like it is locking so it is hard to tell without paying very close attention.
01/11/200970000
The doors fail to lock at 18 mph, and upon exiting the car with the key fob. it occurs radomly, consequences are the doors are not locked while driving (you can't lock it), and when you leave the car, the doors are unlocked. removing and replacing the iod fuse seems to correct the problem for a period of time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that all of the power doors failed to lock. the dealer reprogrammed the door lock control module, to no avail. he then replaced the wiring harness in an attempt to correct the failure. after the repairs, the contact noticed that the air bag warning light sporadically illuminated on the warning panel. the dealer advised her that there were no related recalls. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 63,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.

Dodge 2005 grand caravan. driver side door would refuse to open with inside button by door. would open if pushed console button. the door would decide that it was not closed properly and fully open while driving. (very dangerous). the passenger side would open only if you used the key bob and had a jerky motion that would trip a sensor and close the door(usually on a passenger getting in or out of the vehicle. the door was adjusted and door motor replaced. still had a problem with the door occasionally bumping the side of the vehicle. verified that the vehicle had not been in an accident and resolved by leaving the plastic interior door cover off. the problem with the doors opening and closing by themselves was found in both cases to be linked to the door wiring harness. also both door refuse to lock (not a thing that you check when looking at a car and was found by accident) searching the internet showed that this was a well known problem. *tr

I purchased the van used (1 owner) around 74,500 miles. i noticed that the headlights flickered for a good 30 secs. after using anything else electrical. after a few weeks, the power door looks stopped working. the rear hatch still would lock/unlock. i reset the system by unplugging the battery. this fixed the light flickering problem, but only worked temporarily for the locks. i eventually took it to the dealer to flash the computer, and update software on the bcm. this worked also for a few days, but now again the locks are not working. now the dealer is saying that the bcm must be faulty, and needs to be repaired/replaced. this is going to cost $500-$600! i feel that this is a safety issue, especially because i have a small child. i need to count on being able to lock/unlock my vehicle in a timely manner because i don't work in the nicest neighborhood. i have now made my first payment of the van, which was less then what i have already put into it for repairs. chrysler should offer to fix this problem or at least offer some sort of compensation, especially with so many customers having the same problem. *tr

The automatic door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt will stop working with no notice. i have found by searching on the internet that pulling the fuse and replacing it will solve the problem for a few days, but it happens again within days. this is a real safety problem for my wife as this is her car and she travels with our 3 children in the car. since the vehicle is only able to be unlocked manually on the driver's side door only, it would make it very hard for her to get into the vehicle quickly if there was a problem with one of our kids. it seems dodge has no solution to this problem. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan automatic door lock/unlock will just stop working. i have been to dealer twice and they have charged me $49.95 for repair. the latest episode happened apx. 6 months after last repair. i went online to carcomplaints.com and found a host of other owners with same repeated problem. i then removed fuse and put it back in and it has temporarily fixed the problem. i have complained to the dealer, but they are unaware of anyone else having the same problem. they will be glad to look into what might be causing my problem for a minimum charge of $50. of course there may be additional charges for parts and labor. i have already paid almost $100 for dealer to remove and replace the same fuse plus on one of my visits they gave me an estimate of over $3,000 in other repairs they just happened to find. after taking my car to 2 other repair shops for estimates, i was informed they could not find anything wrong and saw no signs of problem dealer supposedly diagnosed. it was an attempt to rip off a consumer. *tr

I must say how very troubling it is to see so many of us with the same complaint filing here on this web site about the safety issue with the power lock elements on these mini vans!!!! i too have had nothing but trouble starting when i purchased this vehicle a 2005 grand caravan by dodge. with two young children (one in my arms) in the rain attempting to unlock one (1) door (drivers) with a key because the added convenience of a key fob door lock and unlock function refuses to stay working time after time. although there are many quick fixes on the internet by every other irritated consumer, they just don't work period. dodge technicians don't even seem to know what is wrong, they just through fuses and parts at it to attempt to rectify the situation. dodge must have an inkling of what is going on??? you people here at the nhtsa and the ntsb have got to help us. i'm sure even some people you know or even you yourself have had this problem. *tr

Automatic door locks don't work. the only way to get them to work is to remove the 20amp iod fuse for 10 sec. dodge refuses to own up to the problem, but they don't mind taking your money for a temporary fix. by removing and installing the iod fuse the temp fix last for a couple of weeks in the summer and 1 day in the winter. our problem started in the spring of 2008 until now. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan - door locks stop working at random times; electrical surges. please check the online message boards related to this issue. there are hundreds of incidents (like mine) that i have counted so far. we have 4 children and only one way to enter or exit the vehicle! we have spent hundreds so far on fixes that are only temporary. based on the number of complaints i have read after just 30 minutes of searching the web, there is no way chrysler is not aware of this hazard... *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan power door lock failure. will not lock or unlock with inside power lock button or key fob. have disconnected battery cable and locks work again for anywhere from 1 day to 3 weeks. has happened aprox 25 times since the first incident in oct 2009. has somewhere around 55,000 miles on it. having three preschool age children and only one exterior key hole makes this a difficult and dangerous situation in a crowded parking lot. *tr

Door locks on 2005 dodge grand caravan quit working, have spoke w/many on internet and it's a common problem. there is a tsb about this but dodge will not repair without charging $100-$250.00 your door locks are controlled by the body control module (bcm). the bcm monitors the current draw on the lock and unlock circuits, and when it goes across a threshold it will disable the locks to preserve itself from damage. if a circuit was shorted to ground and the bcm kept trying to drive the locks it would damage itself. the original bcm software on the 2005 vans was a little sensitive to this, and over time when the lock solenoids in each door start to naturally use a little more current, the bcm can set a fault code and disable the locks a little prematurely. the bcm software was revised to make it more fault tolerant to stop this from happening prematurely. the fix is to reprogram the bcm software. this is done with a dealer scan tool, and takes about a half hour of labor to perform. this is a safety issue as the doors can not be locked or unlocked by either button in vehicle or key fob. problem has been temporary fixed by pulling iod fuse and re setting computer. *tr

About one week ago i got back from buying groceries, and when i parked, got out and was going close the door, i heard the warning sound. the same sound that rings when you leave your keys in the ignition or the headlights on, but i had the keys in my hand and the lights were all off. from then on the power locks will not unlock or lock by either the remote or the door switch. i read online that removing the iod fuse for 5 seconds and replacing it would work, and it did, but many on the online forum also said this was temporary and that it would happen again. i'm sure thousands of people have complained, please make this a recall. :( *tr

I own a 2005 dodge grand caravan. i noticed last summer that every once in a while the automatic locks and doors would stop working. we researched this online and found that if you popped one of the fuses out and then put it back in, that it would fix the problem. this worked for a while. however, now the only way that the automatic locks work is if every single time before starting the ignition, you pop the hood, take out the fuse and then replace will the automatic locks work. and this only lasts as long as the van has been running; as soon as you turn it off, the automatic locks stop working. this is a safety issue; if i am in a bad area, i need to have my locks working. with small children in the car, i need to know that my locks are working. even for leaving small things in the vehicle, the locks need to be working. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan door locks no longer work using the remote or the buttons inside the van. not sure what is causing the issue. vehicle has 56,000 miles and has been well maintained. the locks do not engage when the vehicle is in motion, which it normally would do. i see this as a safety issue. only two of five doors have keyed locks which can be manually locked/unlocked with the key, but when you have children and a stroller, crawling through the vehicle while children are unattended creates another safety concern in my mind. i believe the remaining dodge dealerships should fix this defect at no charge to dissatisfied owners who are experiencing this problem. *tr

I'm writing to request that an investigation is conducted into the failure of the automatic door locks of the 2005 dodge caravan. please review the following website for multiple incident reports of the same issue: http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/grand_caravan/2005/electrical/electric_door_lock_failure.shtml i have owned a 2005 dodge caravan for 3 years now. the problem is that the power door locks stop functioning completely on the vehicle. the fact that there is only 1 keyhole on the vehicle on the driver side door makes for loading and unloading children from the vehicle very difficult. the driver side door needs to be unlocked and the driver needs to reach throughout the vehicle to pull up the lock knobs to open the other doors. i'm hoping that the outcome of the investigation is that dodge will be required to repair the problem without any cost to the many dodge customers that this problem has affected. *tr

I bought my 2005 dodge grand caravan august of 2006. the door locks stopped working probably january of 2007. nothing seemed to cause it. it just stopped working. the only solution to it is to disconnect the battery cable for a little while and reconnect it and it works for a few days and stops. it is unsafe to have this problem. being able to quickly lock and unlock your doors is important. now i have to unlock the driver door and climb in the car to unlock any other doors and climb back to lock it. something should be done about this. *tr

The power door locks, on my 2005 dodge caravan have quit working. i found out that it is a problem with the onboard computer and as yet chrysler will do nothing about it. we have small grand children that could possibly open the doors while the van is moving, which makes it a danger factor. we have tried to fix the problem by pulling a fuse or disconnecting the battery cable but it only works for a short while and it happens again. *tr

The power locks do not work for the driver and all passenger doors. they will not work with either the remote or the interior lock switch or after driving the vehicle over the reset lock mph of 20. this issue started approximately june 2009 and continues. disconnecting the battery and reconnected after several hours will get the locks to work again but only for the time being. the power locks may stop working again within a couple of hours or days . the dealer stated that a software update at approximately $90 but may not be a permanent fix. the safety issue here (a key hole is only provided on the driver's side door meaning people need to stand in the street or parking lots while driver opens his door and then climbs through the interior to pull up the buttons for others to enter as well as lock not locking when vehicle is in motion) a recall is needed to be issued for this power lock problem. this is a safety issue that the manufacturer obviously knows about. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan. bought new. around 2008, after warranty expired, the power door locks stopped working, whether you used the button on the door or the button on the remote. after researching this issue, it appears that this is a recurring problem with this make and model and year van. if you disconnect the battery for a minute and reconnect it, the door locks will work again, maybe for an hour or for a week before they stop working again, it is always random amount of time before it quits again. the dealership would charge to attempt to fix it since it is not covered under any recall. *tr

Power door locks have stopped working on my 2005 dodge caravan. you can only lock/unlock the back sliding doors manually. from doing some investigating, it appears this is a common problem for the 2005 dodge caravans, and one that i do not think should be taken lightly. children are normally the ones sitting by these doors, and i think this is a liability. about a year ago, the driver's side stopped working, and then a few months ago, the passenger one stopped working. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan 48,000 miles. power door locks failed. disconnected battery and cleaned terminals: locks worked for a week. replaced battery and they worked for another week. consulted web forum, which recommended removing door lock fuse for 5 seconds. this worked for another week. now believe that body control module (bcm) needs replacing, which is expensive (over $700). web forums reveal hundreds of same complaints about '05 caravan. big safety problem is that when remote lock is activated, horn beeps, signifying doors are locked, though they are not. this poses the danger that someone could enter the van at night undetected and assault the driver or hijack the car when owner returns. chrysler corp. should be compelled to fully repair this fault by a general recall. *tr

The automatic locks just suddenly stopped working, which is a huge safety issue on a minivan with kids. i went online and discovered tons of people had the same problem with 2005 grand caravan/caravan. there is a quick, temporary fix of removing the 10d 20a fuse or the negative cable on the battery, but the problem apparently recurs with ever diminishing periods of time in between. the permanent fix is apparently an update to the software, which clearly states that dodge/chrysler is aware of the problem, that it is a problem with their engineering, and that they are only too happy to take money from consumers to fix a safety problem inherent in their faulty design. it should be recalled and fixed by them before we start hearing about tragedies, especially as this occurs without notice. *tr

We just purchased a 2005 dodge grand caravan yesterday and did not discover until we got home that the power locks do not work. we feel this is a safety issue especially with our two small children in the vehicle. it is unsettling to think that someone dangerous could attempt jump into the van at any time the vehicle is stopped and not be able to quickly hit the button and protect our family. it is also easier to forget to lock all the doors after exiting the vehicle, which makes us more prone to theft. we would really, be grateful for this to be considered for a recall. thank you so much!*tr

The door locks open or close from the switches or the smart key buttons. they also do not lock at twenty mph as designed. this due to a known failure of the body controller in the vehicle, however the dealers i have spoken to say 'yes', this is a known problem that consistently comes up after warranty periods. this failure puts the occupants of the vehicle (mini van) at risk when locks don't work as designed, especially considering that the van only can unlocked with the key at the driver's door. *tr

The power locks do not work for the driver and all passenger doors. they will not work with either the remote or the interior lock switch or after driving the vehicle over the reset lock mph of 20. only the rear tail gate lock is functional. this issue started approximately october of 2008 and continues. disconnecting the battery and reconnected after approximately 15 minutes will get the locks to work again but only for the time being. the power locks may stop working again within a couple of hours or couple of weeks. my mechanic stated that a reflash may work but the problem has a history of coming back after the $175 reflash. a new bcm costs $500 and that may not correct the problem either. because of the high rate of lock failure for this vehicle and the safety issue here (a key hole is only provided on the driver's side door meaning people need to stand in busy streets or parking lots while driver opens his door and then climbs through the interior to pull up the buttons for others to enter as well as lock not locking when vehicle is in motion) i feel a recall is needed to be issued for this power lock problem. this is a safety issue. *tr

2005 sxt dodge caravan power door lock failure, after 1 minute on the web i have found people with the exact same problem as i, to the tee! this is obviously a problem with the manufacture and software/firmware. dodge has a fix. why has this not been recalled yet? such a simple fix of a firmware upgrade would save many hours of frustration. i am very upset that this problem is so well know and has happened exactly the same way to others and nothing has been done to right the problem. my power doors locks have stopped working yet the lights still blink when using the remote and the rear tailgate will work. after replacing the battery they worked again then quit after a few days. i could have just copied this straight off the forums i have been reading...its is the exact same thing going on that everyone else is experiencing also. please issue a recall notice and have dodge take care of this problem. thanks *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the power door locks do not work at all. when the battery is disconnected for a few minutes and then reconnected, the power locks still did not work. the computer must be reprogrammed in order for the locks to work again. the dealer stated that they would repair the failure at the contact's expense. the contact has researched several complaints regarding the same failure that he is experiencing. the failure and current mileages were 41,000.

Power door locks do not work at all. when battery is disconnected for a few minutes and then reconnected, door locks will work for about 30 seconds then fail again. when lock button is pressed on remote key faub, the lights flash, but doors do not lock. i was told that a module needs to be replaced. *tr

The power door locks on our 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt stopped working, including the auto-lock feature when the vehicle hits 20 mph. the internal power locks did not work and using the remote to lock or unlock the vehicle also did not work. the internal auto side door opener mounted with the information center did not work as well as the chimes that sound when the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open. after searching the internet, i found that pulling the oid fuse for 5 seconds had worked for a large number of other people who all have encountered this problem. pulling and reinserting the fuse has corrected the problem for the time being.  The locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan no longer work. i am reading forum after forum and everyone with this year model is having the same problem. they are saying that dodge dealerships are having to replace the body control module and some are having to be reflashed. this is a huge problem, because the lights flash and you are unaware that your car is not being locked. it is open and vulnerable for all to enter. i only noticed this as i locked it (i thought) and then had to get right back in for something. this is a common problem among this year of vehicle and needs to have someone look into it. *tr

Automatic door locks fail to engage. because horn still sounds and lights flash - driver is not aware that locks are not engaged - so the car remains unlocked while operating and after leaving. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan sxt 3.8 v6 electric door locks stop working. from research, it has to do with reprogramming the bcm (body control module). by disconnecting the battery, the locks work temporarily anywhere from a day to a month. the door locks stop working without any signs. i believe this should be a recall due to the safety concerned of having to manually unlock and lock doors as they are not designed to be done manually since the vehicle was equipped with power locks. also, the bcm reprogramming from the dealer appears to be semi-permanent as some persons have had to receive a new bcm to fix the problem. *tr

Our 2005 dodge grand caravan no longer locks with the automatic door locks. it also will not unlock the doors. when the automatic door lock is pressed on the remote control, the horn sounds and give the impression that the doors lock, but they do not. also the vehicle no longer automatically locks the doors when 20 mph is achieved. these are safety hazards as we have been made to believe that the doors were locked when they were not locked. *tr

The auto locking mechanism stopped working on my 2005 dodge grand caravan. the auto lock now only works on the back hatch door. there are only two manual key holes, one on the driver's side and one on the back hatch. the doors do not lock automatically at 20 mph, pressing the interior lock button does nothing, using the key fob lock button does nothing. the first time it happened, we changed the relay switch, and that seemed to fix the problem, but now it is occurring again. i checked out this problem and it seems to be pervasive on this model, therefore, i believe this to be a manufacturing defect and should either be covered by the warranty or a recall issued for the computer upgrade that is needed. consumers should not be forced to compensate for chrysler's lack of quality in this area. i also believe this is a serious safety issue, especially since the majority of van owners are parents of small children who would be at risk in this situation. however, to this point, chrysler has irresponsibly refused to issue a recall. please take the time to research the number of failures for yourself and take appropriate action to protect consumers of the 2005 dodge grand caravan. thanks. *tr

The automatic door locks and power doors on my 2005 dodge grand caravan quit working sporadically. this is a huge issue with my 3 small children because the locks have to be manually locked and the doors often stay unlocked or will not open from inside the vehicle. dealers has no answer, says computer shows no events although this has happened 8-10 times over past year. *tr

Multiple electrical failures. backup lights, door locks, interior lights, right side power window, and sliding side doors. the items do not function on our van. upon pulling the battery terminal these items will work for a short period of time and then cease to function again. after extensive research on the internet and several hundred dollar in dealer repairs i have discovered that this is due to a software problem with the body control module on the 2005 dodge grand caravans. the fix is supposed to be a firmware update to the bcm provided by dodge. the issue i have is that if this is a software/firmware update to the van's computer why should the dealer expect me to pay $70 so my vehicle will function properly the same as it did when purchased. no modifications have been made to the van and it currently has just over 60k mileage. these problems have been around prior the end of the 3/36k warranty but since such a long time has passed the dealer will no longer honor any type of warranty on this vehicle. my complaint is that if this is a known software issue/fault with the van's software then dodge should upgrade them for free. it's not as if this is a wear and tear or customer induced failure. this is a fault in the core design of the vehicle. *tr

Latches/locks/linkages details: the auto door locks fail to work suddenly. problem can be temporarily fixed by pulling out the iod fuse in the fuse panel for a minute and reinserting it. (as other owners have stated). i am surprised to not see a 'recall' on this problem. i have read a lot of complaints on this problem and would think the manufacturer is aware of the problems and solutions. why should we be charged for something that is obviously a fault from the manufacturer??? *tr

Auto door locks fail to work suddenly. i searched the internet for people having the same issue and was amazed to see many people with the same problem and the same make and model. problem can be temporarily fixed by pulling out the iod fuse in the fuse panel for a minute and reinserting it. this only solves the problem for a week or so. this is a potential safety hazard as my wife and kids spend a lot of time in the vehicle and the doors not locking poses a potential problem exiting the vehicle in an emergency as well as the potential for someone to enter the vehicle while driving such as carjacking, etc....with as many complaints as i have read, and obviously the manufacturer being aware of the issue, i feel this should be recalled immediately.... *tr

Door locks continuously stop working. repeated failure of power locks in 2005 dodge grand caravan. this is apparently a well documented problem. there is over 70 complaints on this vehicle as of today's date on this site. no matter if some may be duplicates or not but this is a problem. the bcm has to be reprogrammed or it needs to have a software upgrade. the only other temporary solution is to disconnect the battery or fuse. this model has only one external key hole on the drivers door. and manually locking the van doors makes loading and unloading small children difficult. also shopping and you forget to lock one of the doors and forget for a brief moment the locks don't work and press your keychain and go on with your shopping and when you come back to leave you stuff is all gone cause you had a stupid moment and forgot i paid for an option on my car that just cost me $1,500.00 because it failed to lock. it also poses a serious hazard in the event a quick escape from the vehicle is needed. while it also poses a risk for our safety if we were to encounter a carjacker. we would not be able to lock the doors throughout the vehicle if necessary. it is not safe for adults nor children without options on a vehicle that we paid extra for to not only to have as a convenience but as a safety precaution. we the consumer should not have to pay over and over to have something fixed that we did not cause to happen. *tr

My vehicle was in motion this morning (well beyond home and the point where the autolocks supposedly engaged) when my 2-year old managed to push the side door release button with a toy and the door started to slide open. the child safety lock indicator tab on the door indicated the child safety lock was engaged. upon arrival at work, i googled this and found multiple reports of failing locks. i walked out to my car to find it unlocked, despite the fact that the horn had sounded indicating the vehicle was locked. i have been unable to figure out how to lock the lift gate, so it appears to me as if my car is permanently unlocked. this is a safety concern when the door can be triggered in motion or someone could enter my car through the lift gate. with all of the complaints out there - how is there not at least a tsb on this item? this is disgraceful given the demographic driving the grand caravan. i guess we want to wait for a child to fall out in transit or someone to be carjacked, raped, or killed? *tr

Power door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan stopped working. i think this is a safety issue as my wife could get car-jacked and not be able to lock the doors to prevent it. chrysler has acknowledged that it is a software issue in the body control module and can be fixed with a software upgrade (tsb 08-040-04). the charge for this fix. *tr

Power door locks fail to lock automatically when car accelerates after being parked. this creates a hazard for children who are riding in vehicle. *tr remote lock/unlock function also inoperable. additionally, when using remote key fob to lock vehicle after parking, it responds with a horn honk indicating that doors have been locked when in fact they do not lock. issue can be corrected but it will return within hours to weeks later. internet searches show that this is an extremely frequent and common problem for this model vehicle.

One day the power locks just stopped working with both the key and door buttons. it is permanent and because this is a keyless entry vehicle the door can only be unlocked via the keyhole on the driver side door. doors must be locked and unlocked manually. it is difficult for my school aged children to unlock their own doors. this is a safety issue for my children if they needed to quickly exit the vehicle. dodge is aware of this problem and says it needs a software update. they are not covering this design flaw/failure as it is not a powertrain problem. my vehicle only has 62000 miles on it. a search of the web yielded many occurrences of this same problem :http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. i have not had the problem fixed yet. i was not expecting to have to pay for the repair. *tr

This problem is with the auto door locks on dodge grand caravans and has been reported by many people on this site. the doors can't be lock with the remote(even though the horn blows to signal it locked) or the auto lock switch on the door. this is a safety problem with kids riding in the back seat. this is an obvious manufacturing defect that should have a recall issued. *tr

Power door locks failed. pulled the iod fuse to reset the locks and it worked for about a week. i'm now pulling this daily to get it to work properly. a danger to me and my family as it leaves the door open at times and you are unable to lock the back door when it fails (there is no manual lock for the back). *tr

There was no specific event that lead to this failure. the failure is with the power lock system on the 2005 dodge caravan. the vehicle has only one manual entry point on the drivers door . if the door is damaged in an accident egress from the vehicle could be impeded and result in additional injuries or deaths. to correct the failure, the vehicle was taken to the dodge dealership for repair. alleged software problems that require the system to be reset. this does not correct the problem, it just resets the system until it fails again. *tr

The locks on my 2005 dodge caravan stop working. after searching on the internet for a fix or other people with this problem, they suggested pulling the iod fuse for 20 seconds and replacing the fuse. i did so and it fixed the problem for today. i do not know if this will continune to fix the problem or not but it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem. i would like to file this complaint so a recal will be issued to fix the problem. just pulling the fuse will not fix the problem permanently. thank you

The power locks and remote lock on my 2005 grand caravan quit working. i went to a parts store and was told it was not a fuse. i called car dealership and was told power lock switch probably needed replacing and would run over $100.00. i googled my problem and read numerous accounts of my exact problem. tried their solution and it worked perfectly and was free! i located the iod 20 amp fuse in my car's fuse box and unplugged it for five seconds. this is supposed to reset locks. it worked perfectly and now all my locks work good as new! this was a very annoying problem as my caravan only has one keyed lock on driver's door. i think this item needs to be recalled if it is such a problem for so many car owners. *tr

Electric locks on 2005 dodge caravan quit working. after reading forums, found out that if you pull a fuse and replace it after five seconds, it works again. for most the problem returns within days. read that their was a firmware problem in the vehicles computer that needed to be upgraded for a price. with the electric locks not working, and when driving, the locks will not lock at 19 mph as designed, causing what i believe to be an unsafe condition. i believe it is unfair, and not to mention unsafe, for the consumer to have to pay for a service that should be a recall. *tr

My 2005 dodge grand caravan, the power locks stopped working. per some searches on the internet the dodge caravan needs a software update to allow the auto power locks to work. they sell it for $150-$200 when it should be free because of an error in dodges software. the vehicle only has 2 keyed locks to open from eternally. it is a danger with young children riding in the van because the doors do not automatically lock when the vehicle starts moving. *tr

One night my locks were working on my van and the next morning they weren't. i called the chrysler dealer and they informed me that i would need a software update because of this problem and it was not a recall. i don't feel that is fair, considering the locks are supposed to lock while driving, making sure the children are not able to open the doors while moving or just in a parking lot, where a car could be pulling into the next parking space. it is so easy for kids to dart out fast and the next car to not be able to stop in time. i feel this is a big safety issue for me/my children and anyone else out there with the same problem. and by the looks of the websites i've visited, there are a ton of people with same problems. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan power locks stopped working. apparently this is a widespread problem with significant safety issues. noticed it one day on vacation when i locked the car and heard it honk. when i came back to the car, the locks were still up - it never locked. we had all kinds of expensive electronics in the car that could have been stolen. this is only a small thing compared to the safety issues related to children's safety, ease of use for disabled and elderly people, etc. alot of complaints about this all over the internet yet dodge is not coming up with a fix and there has been no recall yet. i strongly suggest you recall this vehicle for a proper fix, instead of having to replug the fuses under the hood all the time. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan and the power doors/power locks have failed. the tailgate still works, however, without the power locks there is no way to lock it. due to the number of complaints in this system as well as the number or complaints on the internet, this is obviously a manufacture/engineering defect that must be addressed. i called dodge about the problem and the told me that i'd have to pay a $69 diagnostic fee before they could tell me what was wrong and how much it would cost. i really do not want to give dodge of my hard earned money for something that i, and countless others, believe that dodge should correct without hesitation and without charge. please take this matter seriously and do the right thing by recommending a recall to fix this problem. *tr

Electric locks fail and disable the electric doors, automatic locking, and key fog locking and unlocking. the doors fail to lock at 20mph , therefore you think your doors are locked and they are not. also, pressing the fob. sounds the horn, blinks lights, but doors are not locked, although you think they are. this is a software problem in the bcm, they have a tsb for it, but refuse to fix it because warranty has expired. this is faulty software at manuf, and a safety issue, chrysler should stand behind their own mistakes and safety issues. *tr

11/10/200732000408/15/2005
On dodge 2005 grand caravans there is design flaw in the electric door locks that causes the electric door locks to quit working. the only alternative left to access the car from the outside is the driver side key or the tailgate key. the only alternative left from the inside is to manually push or lift the lock stem on each door. this is a serious problem for children and elderly passengers as they are not able to do manage the locks from the inside. from the outside a person must open the driver door with a key, then crawl to the passenger door to unlock it,if you can grasp the stem an pull it up. in an emergency situation this limited access could result in delayed entrance which could lead to injury or death. there is no way to know if the door locks or working or not. the failure is random and can only be temporarily worked around by resetting the programming by removing and re-inserting a fuse that can be accessed only via the engine compartment. this failure has occurred four times on my vehicle. a search of forums on edumunds.com reveals numerous other affected owners. dodges only offered solution is to reset the programming which is only a temporary fix. due to the limited non-electric access to the vehicle and the potential for children/elderly to be trapped, this is a serious problem that the manufacturer, dodge, should repair at no charge. *tr

Within the past 2 months, i have had a problem with the power door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan. the power door locks suddenly stop working (unable to lock doors with switch inside vehicle, with remote, or once vehicle is in motion and reaches 20mph). i have contacted the dealers in the area and they are unaware of any recall for this problem. the only so-called remedy i've found for this issue is unplugging the car battery for a few minutes, however, this only fixes the problem for the day up to a week. *tr

Electronic door locks failed to engage locks. lock verification signaled lights and horn indicating the locks were engaged. as a result of the failure the van was entered illegally and property was stolen. this was also a safety issue when the electronic locking system did not disengage from the controls in the van. this resulted in the inability to remove 3 children from the van quickly in an emergency situation. the body control module (bcm) has been reset several times to correct the problem. the reset only lasts for a few days before the problem repeats itself. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. it has power door locks. the locks will not operate from inside the vehicle or from the keychain. not being able to lock and unlock this vehicle makes it very difficult with two young children. the safety feature that locks the doors when the vehicle is going over 18 mph is also not working. the only doors that has key unlock are the driver door and the rear door. i have found a website that has many others with the same problem. this should be recalled. please look at this website, and help us get this fixed. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan. electric locks fail. this involves safety, as the doors are supposed to lock automatically at a predetermined speed. they fail both manually, remotely and from obtaining the speed required. the dealer tells me this is a software problem, and they have a tsb to correct it, but it costs $90 i would think that if a software update is required, that means that the software was not working properly at manufacture, and it should be covered by the factory. they say that because the miles are over warranty, it costs. but software updates indicate that it wasn't done properly in the first place, and it does affect safety by not locking the doors. simply removing the iod fuse and reinserting it resets the computer and the locks perform normally and then fail again. when i buy windows program, all updates are free, because they re updated to solve problems. *tr

On or around feb 26 i discovered that the auto door locks were not working nor was i able to unlock or lock my doors from the inside with the inside lock switch. if my wife was trying to outrun an assailant she would not be able to unlock or lock the doors automatically when seconds could be crucial. not to mention the fact that the lights flash with using the remote errantly indicating that the doors were locked. at this point i have'nt fixed the problem but i understand that dodge has an update fix. this should be a recall. *tr

I bought new 2005 dodge grand caravan. within 30,000 miles door locks worked erratic, doors would lock on their own with no one in vehicle...locked keys in several times..all checked good at dealer...eventually got where door locks would not work at all...by 37,000 miles dealer said vehicle was out of warranty and repair was about $900.00. i have been resetting body control module by pulling fuse. locks will work for a few days before failing...have also had side doors open on their own while going down road...this whole thing is frustrating.....have friends with 2005 models with same symptoms who have paid the big bucks for repairs and still have same issues...i see on internet forums this is a major issue with the 2005 models...most say it is a software update on the body control module which the dealer is not aware of but still wants to charge for....i find that hard to believe...i doors locking, unlocking, opening while going down road is a very serious safety concern on a 7 passenger vehicle....can you please help! *tr

The power door locks on my 2005 grand caravan have stopped working. after researching this on google, it turns out that many other people have this same problem. you can temporarily fix this situation by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. then the door locks will work for a day or two and then stop working again. i feel that the door locks can be a safety issue and dodge should provide a permanent fix for this free of charge. *tr

The power locks on the vehicle did not operate. this was a great inconvenience and could lead to driver's not locking the doors and causing injuries in the event of an accident. i have a cousin who was visiting from out of state and he noticed the problem with the locks. he had the same year of dodge caravan and experienced the same problem ,and had to the dealer several times before it was fixed. i believe that a recall should be issued because i did not believe that the doors will be locked manually and unlocked manually by users of these cars.*ak

I purchased a cpo 05 grd caravan from a local dealer. within months the electric door locks would go up and down while unlocking the doors by the key, would go up and down while traveling down the road & while opening the electric windows while inside the van..* * the steering wheel would lock up while pulling out onto the road. my wife and kids could have been killed by the approaching fully loaded log truck. the van was taken to the lithia in roseburg & was informed of the issued. it was inspected and the reply was that they could not find any problems & they said they could not get the door locks to go up and down. the van was taken in a 2nd time on 07/28/2006 with the same issues, again they kept the rig and told us they could not get the door locks to do anything. on 04/07/2006 the van was taken in to lithia after kendall said that they could not work on the van because of us buying it from lithia. so the van was returned to lithia with the same problems along with the rt rear brake light staying ..you know the sad thing is i still own 15k on this van. the steering on the van locked up again while traveling down the road and almost caused an accident with my wife and kids in the van. i just pray that when we take it in for the 4th time and we leave it at the dealership to fix, that they will get it done right and that if we either keep the van or trade it off that nobody gets killed from this major safety issue. i feel that i have been shafted due to having a cpo and dodge dealers are not able to do their job due to skills or ?. i sure hope that if you are in an accident and your unable to get out of the van due to the door locks you don't burn up or if you can not open the door that hopefully somebody can get the door open from the outside of the van. oh i forgot, when i go over a speed bump it sounds like the engine is going to drop out. *nm

 1) no events leading up to failure. 2) rear liftgate electric latch fails to actuate. this is the only way to open the rear liftgate as there is no manual override. i believe this is a safety problem because in minivans, the rear passengers are not easily accessible via the sliding side doors. in our case, children in child-restraint safety seats are in all rear seats of the vehicle (middle and rear, i.e. 4 kids). the only way to access rear passengers is to either crawl over the middle seats to the rear or via the liftgate. however...the latch fails and the gate does not open. 3) actuator switch had to be replaced (approx cost $90.00). *jb
