AQ10001 | CHRYSLER GROUP LLC | 11/18/2010 | Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit
The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened. |

The power locks on this vehicle stopped working correctly. i have looked online and many other people have the same issue. the manufacturer should have to pay to fix this issue. the only fix is to have the computer reflashed at a dealer at a cost of around $400. i have locked myself out of my vehicle a few times because the door locks will just intermittenly lock for no reason or if you put the windows down, the doors will lock. it is a mess. this is an obvious flaw with the manufacturing of the vehicle and the manufacturer should have to fix it.

Driver side sliding door will not lock/unlock with key remote or interior control. the vehicle is equipped with the feature that locks all the doors when the vehicle reaches 20mph. the door will not lock with this feature either.

The power door locks stopped working by the cabin switch and the remote. i consider this a safety hazard. chrysler has a program update for this problem but charges to have it installed. i understand this update was released in 2004.

The vehicle is not properly sealed. the grounds were all corroded and letting moisture or salt into components. first thing that happened was all the lights came on and then all went out. couldn't see speed or gears. i have had to replace the basic control module and having the body control module checked out today. everything under the hood is corroding at a fast pace. you can see even the metal on the engine. i hoping my wiring harness is ok. but the tech hasn't gotten that far yet.

Following the advise of many whom have posted on the following website; http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/2005_dodge_grand_caravan_random_headlamp_issue?pg=3. i am also experiencing problems with my dodge grand caravan. i am currently experiencing problems with the headlights; they shut down by themselves while i am driving. i have also experiences problems with the brakes lights, power windows and the passenger sliding doors. i cannot use the sliding door behind the driver side. it had been permanently shut for the last 3 years, since the last visit to the dodge dealership in miami, florida. they did a dreadful job.

The power locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan do not work consistently. just like the many other people experiencing the same problem, i have to take the iod fuse out for 10 seconds, and put it back in to get the power locks to work. even then, the power locks will work for maybe a few hours, and then they stop working. very frustrating. this is also a safety concern. dodge needs to recall these vehicles and fix this electronic/computer problem.

The power door locks repeatedly fail - i understand this to be a common issue with this vehicle - making it difficult to get access to vehicle from the outside, especially problematic with children in the backseats who have difficulty unlocking the doors manually. also, the passenger side power sliding door has not been operational for some time. we have also recently experienced a, as yet still undiagnosed, complete power failure in the whole electrical system - this occurred suddenly while the vehicle was traveling 65 mph with the cruise control engaged (it had been engaged for several miles). these issues range from very inconvenient to potentially hazardous.

Electric locks: after 36000 miles and no more warranty on the vehicle the power locks quit working. i found that pulling the battery would resolve the issue for a short while but it would come back again and that doing this could cause issues with how the engine ran for a while and of course the radio and clock would have to be reset. after researching the issue i found that this is known issue and that it would require a firmware upgrade on the vehicle on board computer. the manufacterer nor dealer would do this at no cost. it cost me $85.00 to get the update. i do not feel this is right and only hope that others will file complaints to get dodge to correct this and re-imburse their customers who have had to do this. as for me, this is my third dodge and will no longer buy another.

I purchased a dodge grand caravan new in 2005. yesterday i had a flat tire and tried to access the spare tire. it was impossible as it was frozen in place. i called my local dealership and they suggested i use a pry bar to free it. i believe this is a design flaw and that many people are driving around believing they have a spare tire while in reality, the spare is inaccessible. i could have been stranded or in an unsafe area.

Headlight switch on 2005 chrysler town and country and 2005 dodge grand caravan malfunctions while driving. extremely dangerous while driving at night. the switch on some of these vehicles seem to be installed incorrectly. there are 4 settings on the switch that when connected will turn on the lights appropriately. in some cases the switch is misaligned and the contact will either not work at all, or, make random disconnections. this is extremely dangerous when driving at night as this is a family vehicle, known to have multiple passengers. if the headlight fail at night, this could be deadly. there have been numerous forums, and blogs describing these issues with town and country, and caravan, and grand caravan owners. the failure occurs randomly, and the only way to fix this is to either open/repair the switch, or replace the switch. currently i am having to flip this switch off and on back and forth until the contacts connect. if it does not work, then i have to drive while i hold the hi-beams on. this is not safe for myself nor other drivers driving toward me.

The air conditioning for the vehicle has needed to be recharged or a/c heater tube for the rear unit has been changed out because of corrosion. every year the a/c has needed to be recharged because there is no coolant in the a/c system. this has occurred every year for the past 5 years. this causes an expense of $70 to $150 every year. the front core has been replaced to the sum amount of around $750 last year.

Power rear sliding doors just quit working. wires get cut by the track they are contained in called a wire track or sliding channel. this has happened numerous times on both driver & passenger sides. i'm concerned this could cause electrical fire or shock. dealer replaced once under warranty for passenger side but warranty was out when it happened again. this was on vin # 2d4gp44l75r459189 dodge grand caravan sxt 6cyl 3.3l

2005 dodge grand caravan sliding door opening / closing problems. is it the wiring harness? i have seen hundreds if not thousands of individuals with this problem. door opens slightly then stops. most dangerous part is that it will not cycle to fully pull the door in and close completely. i found broken wire in the track and replaced. but the problem still persists. it is a daily problem and the great engineers at chrysler should be held accountable for this faulty design!!!

Automatic door locks not working.
06/07/2010 | 49242 | ||
I like many other 2005 dodge caravan owners has experienced a automatic door lock failure. after taking the van out once door locks operated perfectly, upon 2nd trip that day i noticed when i went to lock the doors with the remote they did not lock, i tried the internal door lock switch it did not work. i was advised (via website) to pull the 20a iod fuse and replace it which i did and the locks worked for about three cycles and stopped again. the doors no longer lock upon shifting into gear either which means the passenger doors (where the children sit) do not lock while on the road and can be opened while the vehicle is in motion without the effort of pulling up the door lock stem. i am going to take it to the dealer for a computer update which i am told sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. the next step is to replace the module at considerable cost.
