At random times the the horn, flashers, and wipers will turn on.this has happened while driving the vehicle and has happened when the vehicle was turned off, without anyone inside the van. disconnecting the battery has been the way to stop the problem. dealer could not find anything wrong and guessed that it was the tipm. this has occurred on numerous occasions and does seam to be a safety issue when the vehicle is in operation. obviously from the number of complaints that i have seen, nhtsa should investigate and chrysler needs to do a recall.

Turned on egnition and while driving down the road the warning lights all flash on and all gauges go to 0 and wipers are going as well, with the wipers turned off..also the front windows dont go up or down..
08/08/2012400001
After shutting vehicle off the headlights, interior lights, or parking lights will stay on indefinitely, resulting in draining the battery to zero. the only solution is to disconnect the battery for ten minutes. dealer could not diagnose problem. *tr

I was sitting in a parking lot with the van idling. all of a sudden the horn started blaring, hazards started flashing, wipers (front & back) were going at full speed. this went on for roughly 3 minutes (felt like a half hour). i tried everything to stop it, but nothing worked. i took the key out of the ignition, but the engine kept running. this happened twice (same scenario) in a span of 10 minutes. this is absurd, and i have read many complaints on this issue.

I am experiencing electrical problems with the 2008 grand caravan. the van cuts off while moving. the lights blink. the radio suddenly turns on. sometimes the doors will not unlock. the problems all appear to be related to the computer malfunctioning in the van. the may cause an accident if the van loses power and control while driving.

The instrument panel on our 2008 dodge grand caravan will blink off and on, the windshield wipers will go off and on when they are in the off position. the speedometer and tach will jump back and forth and the chime will go off each time this happens. i have lost the ability to unlock the doors and roll down the windows from the drivers door also. this does not happen all the time but it has become more frequent the last couple days. no error codes come up when a scan was completed on it which it makes more difficult to pinpoint a cause with the dealer. *tr

2008 grand caravan having dangerous electrical / powertrain problems. van suddenly loses electrical control. horn blows, windshield wipers run, washer fluid sprays, doors latch (or fail to unlatch) transmission goes limp. several other reports of exactly the same issue are listed on this site. according to some posts on the web, there is an update for similar issues on the 2010s. also, i am finding these same reports on dodge weblogs for other dodge vehicles, not just the grand caravan. this may be the causing accidents since there are so many reports. . *tr

Driving the vehicle on a residential street. engine quit suddenly and unexpectedly. steering and brakes failed. vehicle went off the road, over the curb and came to a stop. no property damage or bodily harm. if we had been traveling at highway speeds, fear of death would have been a real concern. the engine would not start for approximately a minute after the incident. engine finally started and the vehicle was taken to a dodge dealership. diagnosed as a 'bad win module' (wireless ignition node). the technician actually guessed the problem was the win module before diagnosing the problem. he said it was a 'fairly common problem'. an online investigation revealed this part has a recall associated with it in the 2010 dodge grand caravan (our dodge grand caravan is a 2008). the reason i am writing the nhtsa is the newly replaced win module is clearly a redesigned part. it looks and functions differently than the old, faulty win module. if dodge redesigned the part, they must have assumed the earlier design was defective in some way. to justify the need for a redesign, there had to be some driving factor like improved safety. it is my belief that this defect had the real potential of causing death and i am requesting the nhtsa investigate this matter. am i the first to have lodged a complaint regarding this part? thank you for your time and attention. i look forward to your response. *tr

June 2012, while driving the vehicle from a restaurant from dinner, the vehicle suffered a power failure which immediately caused the vehicle to power down while driving on the highway. i was forced to make a best attempt to pull over to the side of the road, which was made difficult by the fact that the brakes were powered by the electrical systems as was the steering. i subsequently called a mechanic who came and checked out the minivan but, no work was performed because when the mechanic arrived, the car started and drove perfectly and all of the voltages for the electrical systems tested okay. a month later, after arriving home and parking my car, i noticed that the cooling fan was still operating although the vehicle has been shut off. i then immediately started the car and did every check possible to make sure that i had not left anything on. after checking under the hood and closing the hood itself, the fan shut off on its on.within a matter of weeks, this same problem began repeating itself and would only stop once the battery ran down. i eventually had the fan relay/starter replaced after a mechanic suggested that this was the issue. i have subsequently found that the fan no longer stays on. however, the vehicle continues to either shut down while driving with no apparent cause and i am still experiencing problems with the vehicle's battery draining, although nothing appears to have been left on. the electrical problems have continued to get worse and increasingly dangerous and i have called several dodge dealerships to speak with mechanics. to generalize, a majority of the mechanics have dealt with other consumers who have experience some or all of the same issues and suggest that the tipm is faulty and that this is a common issue on chrysler and dodge minivans of the same year and being that this is the case that they expect to see a recall issued. *tr

Upon entering vehicle pressing keyfob to unlock any door or hatch the horn would start to sound, the windshield wipers (front and rear) would start to go on its on including windshield wiper fluid as well, lights would start to flash as well. i would have to open up the hood and hit the fuse box located next to the battery on the drivers side firewall just to get it to stop. i have taken the vehicle to the dealership on several ocassions to no avail because they cannot duplicate the problem and now i am out a diagnostic fee of $94.00 x2 and the cost of a rental car both times for my wife and three children because my 100% full warranty does not cover the cost of the rental because the problem could not be duplicated. after searching and reading about this problem that my wife and i are having with this cara van i think something should be done before someone is seriously hurt or killed by the caravan doing something that it was not asked to do!!!! *tr

Van would intermittently not start. would turn key and van would click once like solenoid was activating but starter would not turn on. turn key a second time and van might start. on one occasion, van would not start on several attempts. jump starting would not work. battery tested ok. replaced starter, after couple days van again would not start. took to dealer, dealer replaced starter. after a couple of months, van is again intermittently not starting. we have discovered if shift lever is moved into neutral, van will start. this evening (9/25/12), my wife went to turn on the high-beams and the windshield wipers came on and would not cut off. the low-beams remained on, but high-beams and the turn signals would not turn on. i disconnected the battery for ten minutes and everything seemed to work fine when i reconnected it.

My 2008 dodge grand caravan has intermittent trouble starting. the starter has been replaced twice, and the win module (and key) have been replaced. the same issue has been occurring, but never duplicates for the dealership. their computer scan brings up no issues. the battery has been tested and is in good condition. it doesn't matter the time of day, or driving circumstances, the van will not always start. it will have one click (and i can close the windows, turn on radio) but the van will not start. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that she attempted to unlock the vehicle with a new key fob however, the vehicle would not unlock. after the contact was able to enter the vehicle, the vehicle could not be started. the contact had to tap the fuse box to turn on the vehicle. the windshield wipers then engaged independently with wiper fluid gushing out. the failure recurred frequently as the horn sounded independently as well. the contact stopped and turned off vehicle but the failures persisted. the contact had to tap on the fuse box to have the windshield wipers and horn stop. the fuse box was located under the hood on the driver's side near the battery. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, no assistance was provided. the current and failure mileage was 93,496. kmj

Went to turn my lights on and they turned on then off then on again and then off. and now they will not turn on. everything else works, parking lights, dimmer etc. i had a diagnostic run and it showed the following trouble codes: b162f,b,c ; b1633, b1634, b1637. which all points to the tipm control module. so i called the shop, they called to find the part and there is none available. there are on backorder, about 800 of them to be exact. so that means that i have no headlights until 800 other people get theres. next thing to go is the wipers, horn and then the car to shut off as i'm driving. obviously if 800 of these are on back order there is an issue with them. *tr

One day after initial incident..... start car in parking lot, start backing up. the car stops, everyone is jerked forward, and the horn starts blaring/wipers go crazy, fluid spewing everywhere. at first we thought i had hit someone... but nope. put the car into drive- no power steering- and pulled back into parking space. tried to turn car off. it continued to run with key out of ignition. after 15 minutes of it going crazy some people came over and helped us disconnect the battery. after about a minute it finally died. i met a couple in the parking lot that asked if it was a 2008. it was, and they told me about their horror story with their van. and how they had a lawyer that filed lemon law on it. i was thrilled. after about 10 minutes we connected the battery and the van continued to go crazy. finally we decided to just drive home. it was 9:30 at night. drove home with horn blaring, wipers going crazy, no transmission shifting and fluid spewing. just waiting for the power steering to go out and have very little control of vehicle. got home and van continued going crazy until hubby disconnected battery again. looked online and find out this is an ongoing problem with 2008 dodge/chrysler vans. the tipm goes bad and the car goes crazy. this is going to cause someone to get into a serious wreck and kill someone. very unsafe!! there needs to be a recall, but dodge is having problems getting the part.... ridiculous! the dealership i took it to told me they had 2 2008 vans in the back waiting for this part. they have been sitting there for over 2 weeks and noone knows when they will get the part. so what happens? the people trade them in. convenient. maybe that's why these are the most popular van on the road? making sure they get repeat business. well i'll never buy another dodge/chrysler again and im definitely not going to get bullied into being a repeat buyer!!

*tr

The tipm module (totally integrated power module) is defective, and intermittently draws the battery down. after keeping the van for several days, our local dealership (bluebonnet motors) in new braunfels, tx, determined that the battery is fine, but the problem is with the tipm. the manufacturer has no units available for replacement at this time (several hundred are on backorder, and none scheduled for production). chrysler has not offered to cover this under recall, and we are told it is not covered under our extended warranty. after researching on the internet we read many other people have tipm problems, including: wipers starting by themselves; windshield sprayers spraying without warning; horn will start honking out of control: lights flashing uncontrollably (all of these while driving); and even one unit that caught fire. our dealership has indicated that the system indicates that at least six vehicles have been flagged as completely unusable. we feel that we are driving a rolling time bomb, with the potential to either leave us stranded, or cause hazardous driving distractions at any time, or both. *tr

While stopped at a red light, the van suddenly entered into an electrical chaos. the horn started blaring, the wipers started going full blast, and wiper fluid started spraying. this kind of electrical problem had happened before but this time was the worst. the vehicle continued to drive while everything electrical flickered and continued to malfunction. finally had to stop and remove fuses for horn and wiper fluid in order to get the malfunctions to stop. van transmission also stopped shifting during this episode. even after vehicle was stopped, there were multiple electrical popping noises throughout the engine as if it was trying to power up things that were no longer operational. i took vehicle into dealership and they identified problem as a failure of the tipm (total integrated power module). looking online there are multiple complaints of similar problems and failures. the tipm is actually backordered because of the demand. this is obviously a repeated problem in the dodge and potentially hazardous.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while parked. the horn, headlights, mirrors and the windshield wiper then began to function erratically after the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
05/27/201280000
Upon start of vehicle, wipers turned on(switch pos off), washer fluid sprayed(button not pressed), horn sounded (not pressed), could not get it to stop. started vehicle, continued to do all three, vehicle placed in drive, would not shift out of 1st gear. shut vehicle off, started again, same things. in days prior to this incident, the vehicle would stall unexpectedly, fortunately while approaching stop sign, or stop light and not on highway, resulted in loss of power steering, and all engine/speed indication. dodge dealership in valdosta duplicated problems, replaced $500 electrical box. been two days since repair, no repeats yet.

Initial symptoms of vehicle involved the horn chirping whenever the car was shifted into park as well as the front windshield wipers going off randomly along with washer fluid spraying. when rear wiper was turned on the front wipers would also come on as well but moved very slow. symptoms became worse, the passenger sliding door randomly would open on its own and the horn would chirp constantly when car in reverse. the parking lights and tail lights also would stay on and flicker after key removed and light switch off on dash. while taking van to dodge dealership in beloit, wi the check engine light came on, dash lights began to flash randomly and transmission went into limp mode only allowing me to travel at speeds less than 20 mph. i was advised that i had a faulty tipm (total integrated power module). i was also told that part is on back order and both bryden dealership/dodge corporation are unable to provide a date when the part would be available. i have contacted dodge directly and was able to get a rental car at dodge's expense even though vehicle is not under warranty anymore. they obviously are aware that this is a problem since i was advised by a third party parts supplier that over 600 of these are on back order with no eta on part availability. the worst part of this is not knowing when the part will be available and that so many people are being affected i don't understand how this part can be so scarce when this is one of the most popular vans on the road today.

Wipers/dash cluster/warning bells operate on their own randomly. i found that i could turn off the a/c blower and wipers/dash lights/ and warning bells would go off. started out once or twice, then every went up to 13 times back to back. has happened multiple times was waiting on recall part for a/c and was told it should fix it.(went one week without anything and then went to my van on 5/11/12 and had no gags). sometimes occurs when vehicle is at a stop sign, making a right turn, or driving down the road. lasts from two minutes to ten minutes. research shows many other owners with same issues requiring total integrated power module (tipm) (currently on factory back order with no release date available according to local dealer) i was told 5/11/2012 that 390 customers are waiting on the tipm, and be prepared to wait several months as it is on back order. so i called chrysler, i was then told the machine that makes this is broken, they assigned me to a case manager who would help with rental car assistance. later told by case manager because i do not have service history with dodge dealer, locally that i was not eligible for rental car assistance. i am sorry we are military and have recently moved across country. so now it is the waiting game for the tipm to come back in stock so that i can have my van back, so that i can transport my two children with special needs to doctor appointments.

Wipers/washer/horns operate on their own. transmission shifts erractically. lights blink. front a/c blower inoperable. has happened multiple times (most recently 4-10, 4-13, 4-17-12). sometimes occurs when vehicle is parked with no key in it. lasts from two minutes to ten minutes. research shows many other owners with same issues requiring total integrated power module (currently on factory back order with no release date available according to local dealer) to be replaced.

Just after parking van the electrical system went crazy. the front wipers started wiping, the wiper fluid deployed, the horn sounded. i turned off car and removed the key. everything continued to run. at a loss i got back in, turned it on and drove it out of the garage where the noise wouldn't be so loud. again i removed the key. i popped the hood, thinking if all else fails, i could pull the battery. i saw the fuse box by the battery (i have since looked up that it is the tipm) and i smacked it hard with my palm. the car shut up. several months later it did a similar behaviour, again while not moving. still several months after that it did it again, this time while i was driving. wipers, horn, washer fluid whole deal. i managed to pull over and safely stop the car. before i could get out the car stopped its behavior. since then i have also had other electrical problems, horn attempting to sound on its own, but no wipers, transmission in limp mode where it won't get out of second gear, and front blower motor intermittantly running/not running. often stopping car and opening door, and restarting car fixes it, but more recently not so much. i reported first incident to dealer, but they found nothing. i have reported further incidents and now that i am out of warranty they are advising me it is the tipm (fuse box) and replacement cost is $800 and it may not fix my problem. because it is intermittant they claim not to be able to diagnose themselves. i would hate to have the wiper horn fluid combo happen on the highway. can be dangerous.

The van has shut off while driving approximately 7 times in the last year. the engine shuts off and there is no power to the brakes or steering. there are no error lights that display on the dash. once the car is stopped and placed in park the engine is able to be restarted. there is a big safety concern when this happens. it appears that there is a recall on a similiar issue on the 2010 caravan with the vehicle shutting off while driving. i have also researched the problem and found that there have been alot of the same complaints from consumers owning a 2008 dodge grand caravan. is there going to be a recall on my van for this problem? thank you

All power in the driver door went dead. i don't have mirrors, windows, anything. my mechanic said the part i need is on national backorder, with a new part number from chrysler. this means that all of the parts i currently have/need are obsolete due to a known issue. to have a new part number would mean that the part would need to be redesigned from the ground up due to a known issue. this issue may have the chance to grow into a bigger electrical problem if i didn't know better; which would lean to fires, crashes, etc as all of the cars built rely on electrical signals for power steering, brakes, dash message area, air bags, etc. i'm surprised this hasn't been recalled yet to the known issues and issues it could potentially cause.

On 4 occasions our 2008 dodge grand caravan has gone into a mode where the lights flash, the horn honks, the windshield wipers come on, washer fluid squirts out, and the doors lock. when moving, it also appears to downshift to lower gear. once it starts, it appears the only way to stop it is to let it run its course which can take up to 10 minutes (disconnecting the battery did not make it stop). during the time it is happening the key fob does not work. of the 4 times it has happened, it has happened twice while driving and twice while sitting still (once with key in ignition and once without). i have it at the dealer and so far in 2 days they have not found anything wrong. there are literally hundreds of other people with 2008 dodge grand caravans who have this exact same or similar issue. this is a potentially dangerous issue if you happen to be moving when it happens.

Driving at random times, speeds, etc, the lights would suddenly flash, wipers turn on high, wiper fluid come out and the horn would honk. sometimes this would last only 2-3 seconds, sometimes up to 10 miuntes. turning the key off and then back on would not clear the problem. taken to dealer in november 2010. they re-flashed the pcm and the issue disappeared for 12 months. problems resumed in november 2011. taken to dealer. could not diagnose and decided to change an accessory control module. situation causes very unsafe operating condition by distracting driver, obsuring drivers view, distracting other drivers, causing sight problems for oncoming drivers with uncontrolled illumination of lighting.

Washed van, parked it in driveway. suddenly horn is beeping, lights flashing, wipers going and wiper fluid spewing out. could not turn off with panic button. could not open doors with fob. put key in lock and button came up but car kept pushing it into lock position. finally was able to hold door handle and when lock came up opened door. could not turn van off. disconnected battery cables and let vehicle reset itself. seemed fine. took out later in the day and wipers and fluid came on again and lights began to flash. power steering and brakes engaged and could barely get safely off road. after engine turned off by itself could not restart it. had it towed. dealer now trying to figure out what is wrong. no computer codes so will probably get vehicle back stating no errors are found. i do not feel safe in this vehicle any more. dodge should be made to diagnose and fix this problem before someone gets killed. if you view edmunds.com and carcomplaints.com/dodge/grand... you will find that many people are complaining about this same problem. consumers should probably file legal actions before many people get killed because their vehicles seem to have a mind of their own and stop whenever and wherever they so desire. who can we get to help us resolve this very serious problem with dodge grand caravans????

2008 dodge grand caravan electrical system:wiring recall for sliding door. because of a few months on recall dates my vehicle has not been part of the recall ,my clips have completely broken and wires broke apart when door was opened.the complete sliding passenger door no longer works and this should be part of the recall seeing so many people has this problem.this is a big issue and should be addressed. built with an improperly routed wire harness that may have a condition where the lower sliding door hinge bracket can make contact and wear through the wire insulation.

Same occurance happed 4 times in 6 months, dealer was not able to diagnose problem. while driving on the fwy in fast lane at night, the wipers go off washer fluid spraying, all lights flashing, horn blaring, transmission disengaged from gas pedal, after managing to pull over took key out of ignition and car was still running. mananged to get car to the dealer next day and they said they cannot replicate the problem, i took my car home and again same incident. i was upset and drove the car with these symptoms happening to the dealer and they witnessed the issue, the technician pulled out all the fuses from the fuse box just to shut the car up. still could not find the problem. finally after the 4th time the issue was isolated to a tipm module which chrysler factory said the part was on back order for 4 to 6 weeks and other dealers do not want to sell this particular part to other dealers ( got me thinking why ). chrysler sells good cars but does not stand behind the safety of them. if anyone else has a tipm problem their lives are at risk just as mine and my families was. the dealer finally got the part after 4 weeks, and so far i pray that my car is safe.

I have complained many times of my van not starting. it has only been documented 3 times, and each and every time i bring it in the mechanic tells me there is no faulty code. the first time it is doc. was oct. 12 2009, second wasjuly 23 2010. the last one that was documented was june 1 2011. they wanted to tow it in, in the meantime my husband googled the problem and told me to turn the car on, apply brake and shift to n, then turn off and restart. this did help and i was able to start the van. it was 'dead mans switch'. they still did tow it in and surprisingly were not able to find a problem. they told me next time to not start it like that again and just get it towed in again. when i went to pick my van up they told me there was a 'pending' recall. so with three kids, a husband who travels for work and i have to wait to have a solid recall. this has been a huge waist of my time and is very frustrating and worrysome. each and every time i have brought my van in they have told me there is nothing wrong with it. i have complained about this matter at least 6-7 times. my doors have also locked on their own and the remote start will fail often, they have replaced my keys, but that did not fix the problem.

When key is inserted into the ignition and turned, the vehicle does not start. the starter makes a click sound but does not turn over. several attempts turning the key are needed to start the vehicle. sometimes after trying 5-10 tries with no start, pulling the key out and reinserting or opening the driver door with the key removed will start the vehicle. eventually, the car will start normally. first it seemed to happen on after the engine was hot or hot outside 85 or hotter, but it got worse. i took it to the dealer, i told them i checked the starter solenoid and it wasn't reading 12 volts when van wouldn't start only reading under 5 volts, when the van would start it would read about 10 volts. the first trip to the dealer they replaced a starter motor, with in two days it happened again, they replaced the starter motor again with moper brand starter motor. this still did not fix the problem. i switch the battery with my other car to confirm not battery. still van has starting problems. i was able to leave van with dealer for a week, they couldn't reproduce the problem, but when i got in the van all the electronics were turned off, radio, ac.. that was not an accurate test. the van still has intermittent starting problems. when winter came the starting problems stopped. but this spring and summer is almost here the starting problem has occurred again. we don't if the van will start or leave us stranded.

This is an on going problem with our mini van. the vehicle shuts itself off for no apparent reason while in gear. we have the win module replaced as has been recalled in new models, but this did not fix the problem. as a family we are concerned for our safety while driving this vehicle. internet research has turned up clues that chrysler knows there is a problem and is refusing to act on a solution.

2008 dodge grand caravan. consumer states there have been five recalls for her vehicle and had problems before the recalls were announced. she would like to terminate her lease early. *kb in june 2009, the vehicle needed new front brake pads and rotors at only 15,000 and again in august 2010. in the spring, the vehicle had no air condition. the dealer informed the consumer the part was manufactured too short and froze during the winter, which caused fluid to leak out. the problem was resolved after 3 weeks. in june 2010, the same hose ruptured and again the consumer was left with no a/c. the radiator cap had to be repaired which was why the consumer had to keep adding coolant. the washer fluid sensor was not working and needed to be replaced. in august 2010, the power sliding door stopped functioning for days. when the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, they were unable to find a problem. however, two months later a recall was issued. the consumer stated she also experienced power failures with the vehicle. each time the problem occurred the engine would run, but nothing else in the vehicle worked, such as the windows, locks, windshield wipers and interior lights etc. the problem was sporadic and each time the consumer went to the dealer, they were unable to find any problems. *jb

While driving or parked & turned off wth no one near the van, the engine starts, the horn starts blaring, the wipers turn on full blast, the wiper fluid shoots out, and lights wont work! at first, we could disconnect battery or relay & it would stop. the last time, we had to disconnect alternator. this is a major safety issue!

While the rear hatch of our 2008 dodge grand caravan was closing, our daughter walked behind the van. the rear hatch came down on her and did not stop. i hit the remote for it to go back up and it bounced on our daughter and began coming down again on her. i tried to lift it up while pulling my daughter out and it continued to come down. this van has been taken to rick hendrick dodge on numerous occasions for the power side doors failing. the side doors bounce open upon closing and we find one or both doors open when returning to the van from a store, etc. this has been reported as a safety issue to the dealership and to chrysler. we get the same response each time, which is they are unable to duplicate the problem. we have many witnesses who have seen this happen, including our salesperson. unfortunately, instead of rectifying the problem, our daughter now has a serious, complicated neck injury. she is being followed by a pediatric neurosurgeon at present. we have no idea what her prognosis will be. to date, she has had x-rays and an mri and remains in a cervical collar. she will have more x-rays in 2 weeks. she is a competitive gymnast who now has no activity. the power doors to these vans are extremely dangerous and people need to be aware of this.

The dodge grand caravan is a good car when it wants to be. we bought it thinking it would be a good car for the kids and turned out to be a lemon. two weeks after we bought the vehicle brand new, the engine shut off while running mid day. i had it towed to the dodge dealer because everytime i started the car and put it in drive it would stall. the dealer inspected the vehicle the next morning and found nothing wrong with it. i picked it up and took it home. on the way home in the hot part of the day, the vehicle stalled on me on the highway. i immediately took it too the dealer and told them they needed to fix it. they called me a day later and accused me of putting ethanol in the vehicle. i told them to go

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle is equipped with a remote control that operates the rear hatch. the remote is used to place the wheelchair inside of the vehicle with the lift. the remote control is defective, and opens and closes the rear hatch and side doors without warning whether the buttons have been pressed or not. the manufacturer stated that they would investigate the issue, but he has not yet heard a response. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they claimed to have reset the remote, but the failure still persists. the contact believes that this is a safety hazard because if the vehicle is parked and unattended, it could easily be stolen due to the doors opening randomly. the contact stated that there was a recall for the remote control. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 29 and current mileage was 6,000. updated 09/01/09. *lj the sliding doors would open on their own. updated 09/03/09.*jb

In march 2008, i purchase a new 2008 dodge caravan. several months ago, i started to have problems with the van. when driving, all of the sudden the van will stall. it will immediately restart. however, no electrical components will work. ie: headlights, hazard lights, windshield wipers, blower motor, radio etc. i called the dealership that sold me the car and on october 3. 2008. i took the vehicle in for repair. they returned the vehicle the same day and stated they recalibrated the computer and that should solve the problem. on october 15, 2008, the van was back at the dealer for the same problem. this time they kept the van until october 29,2008 at which time they stated they replaced the computer and again stated we should be fine. on approximately november 13th, 2008 we had the same problem for the third time. we took the van into the dealer and also called chrysler directly. we were told that a chrysler engineer would get involved and we would get the problem taken care of. it is now november 26,2008 and the dealer called and said that they could not duplicate the problem and therefore there was nothing more they could do. they stated to drive the vehicle until this problem occurs again and then rather than restart the van, have it towed to the dealership. my husband spoke with the district manager of chrysler, brandie wagner, and she told him that there is nothing she can do. my husband asked her to put her family in this situation and how would she feel. she responded that this is a very dangerous situation. however, there is no way to convince her supervisors to replace the vehicle until she or chryslers technicians see this problem occur for themselves. this is a very dangerous situation. if driving the van at night and this happens and we have no working lights, this not only puts my family in jeopardy but also the general public that is driving around us. *tr

2008 dodge grand caravan the car dies while driving, occasionally won't shift after dying and restarting. all warning lights go on and sometimes stay on or flash on and off. have returned to dealership several times and they can't find anything wrong with it. also had sliding doors open on their own had that fixed then they wouldn't close with back access button, apparently caused by a loose wire had that repaired, then rear bumper warped so back door wouldn't open, had to take it in to have that fixed, basically my car is in for repair most of the time and i have a small rental of which this time i had to pay for a cracked windshield and it costs me 50.00 every time i have to rent one. i have 4 special needs children who have appointments up to 300 miles away from home. i am a single mom and traveling alone with my children and no longer feel safe driving with them for these distances. the las time the car died i also had two foster children with me, six kids and the car died while driving it and they can't find anything wrong with it so i bring it home sometimes with 200 miles added on it and an empty gas tank. i think it's time chrysler corp. take the vehicle off my hands so i can purchase a reliable vehicle. *tr

I bought a 2008 dodge grand caravan sxt in 3/2008. from the start, i felt the van would not start properly. the engine would continue to turn over even after i had let go of the key and it takes an unusual amount of time to complete start cycle. i was advised by the dealer that this wa common in newer vehicles. another problem was that the inside window, door lock, auto door openers only worked intermittently. last month, while driving, the dash lights all lit up and the van died immediately. this has happened three separate times since then. each time, the vehicle ran fine once restarted but it has been sheer luck it hasn't resulted in n accident. a couple of weeks ago, a new problem arose. i noticed that when i started the van, although it was running, none of the systems up front were working. the air conditioning, radio, or power windows among other things would not work at all. the van needed to be turned off and restarted to get it to work properly. this has also happened repeatedly since. *tr

The transmission of our 2008 grand caravan was having issues when going into reverse. when the vehicle was in neutral or park the indicator showed the vehicle to be in all gears at the same time. also the back doors and hatch would not open due to the fact that the vehicle thought that it was in motion. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and was found that the pcm had internal failures. dealer had to replace pcm. *tr
