 On september 5, 2004, mr. robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.his petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle is being towed.mr. galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioner's 1996 dodge intrepid.on october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.that investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.this is still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsa's database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.

 Recal 99v215000/engine cradle: prior to receiving this recall notice vehicle experienced problem with repairs done on transaxle hub/welded chassis, and control arm. dealer notified of engine cradle recall, and repairs were done. but dealer wanted to charge consumer for work done on suspension due to control arm breakage before this recall notice was received. *ak

 The driver's and passanger's seat will not sit up straight it lays back in rear seat.*ak also, the glove box latch failed and the front seat belts locks up.

 The trunk lid seals and weather stripping leaking during rain and car washing. the blower door control motor makes a noise during vehicle turn-on and when selecting use of air conditioning, problem was identified during intiial warranty period w/ advanced service contract and was advised it was not a covered feature. the dash gauges and transmission fails to engage when car is started w/ the air bag light remaining illuminated, the transmission will not shift correctly while this occurrence is active and it is intermittent.

 A gust of wind blew and trunk shut down. consumer's hand was caught in the trunk. however, no injuries were sustained. the torsion springs that hold the trunk open have lost their tension and will no longer hold the lid open. the trunk lid must be propped open for safety. *ak

 Was backing out of driveway going approximately 3mph vehicle stopped short. wheel hit wheel well. checked vehicle & noticed frame & right axle had broken. vehicle towed to body shop & frame was replaced. *ak

 The engine cradle frame cracked at the weld, which inturn ripped the front axle out from the wheel. i contacted chrysler, they said as a good will gesture they would pay for the axle, but that i should expect the frame to crack on car that old. the car has never been in any accidents and i feel that i was lucky that i diddn't loose control of the car and kill myself, my family or someone from on coming traffic since it was the left front wheel which came off.
