The metal support under the seat cushion of the driver's seat has two extensions that hold a pivot engaging the seat back support. both the left extension and the right extensions are sheared off so that the seat back just flops back, the car can't be safely driven because of this. dt

Inspection of the seat sliding rails and the stationary rails on the passengers side seat found the following problem. four pieces of plastic were found on the floor under the seat. these pieces were 5 & 15/16 long and approximately 1/4 thick. it was found that the back of the seat could be lifted approximately 1/4 in the upward direction. these pieces were broken from a piece that was attached to the side of the stationary seat rail by 5 3/16 nubs that engaged matching holes in this stationary rail. this was observed from the rear passengers area. the plastic piece with the 5 nubs is 5 1/2 long and has 5 tabs that should attach to the afore mentioned pieces. this was observed on both the inboard and outboard seat rails. these pieces provide a sliding surface and a spacer to take up the clearance between the moving seat rail and the stationary seat rail attached to the floor. simular devices were observed on the front of the affected seat which were not broken. the safety aspect of this condition is that this free approximate movement of 1/4 could allow movement to generate, during an accident, and cause the seat to tear loose and cause serious injury or a fatality to the passenger.

Seats- automatic seats. where anchored to the floor, plastic pieces have been noticed laying in the seat tracks on both driver and passenger sides, worried about seats leaving tracks if there happens to be an accident. head lights- way to dim for driving, especially if raining, also looks like the plastic cover is melting from lights being too hot also causing dimness. air bag cover on passenger side dash board is warping, affraid it may explode for no reason causing a fatality. abs - the light comes on for days then goes out for maybe a day then comes on again. had them checked out and they say its fine but light continutes to come on.

The driverside seat back support cracked in half. the crack was through the cast iron frame piece which attaches from the back to the seat. the seat now wobbles sideways. it is unstable and i am afraid the whole seat back will break off at any time. there was no unusual handling to the seat by any means. this is a serious problem and i am sure this problem exists in other cars. please help.

In this incident the driver's back seat support snapped back to an almost reclining position causing driver to swirve and run into median of road. currently the car is being driven with a cooler on the floor of the back seat so that the seat can be precariously positioned. when chrysler was contacted they are stating that they are not at all liable. i feel this is definately a safety issue since the seat is currently very unstable.

Metal framework of seat broken at right rear corner of power drivers seat where it attaches to seat back. obtained replacement seat from junk yard. it broke at same place 10/01/2000. i fear that with one side broken it will put more strain on the other side of seat and eventualy cause it to break which could very likely cause injury or crash. i am having much difficulty trying to find another replacement seat.

Driver's power seat cracked in two:the seat back cracked away from the seat back causing the seat to lurch backward. at this point there was no support on the right side of the drivers seat. the motion caused me to vere to the right - almost hitting another car. the car is now almost undrivable due to the lack of support the seat is supposted to do. when the seat lurched backward, i pulled my lower back in an attempt to stay in an upright position. now i know that chrysler-daimler does not care about me or my car because i have been in to the dealer who wants no responsibility for this manufacturers defect. the dealer and the customer arbitration board at chrysler both want nothing to do with me. i politely asked them why this will not be repaired for free and the response was - pay @$650.00 or do not bother us with this problem. i paid for the estimate and left very unhappy. current mileage at estimate 68699 and date of estimate 1/3/00. please respond to this defect request - it would be much appreciated. many others seem to have this same problem with the 94 intrepid. also. it is funny that all the salvage yards here in tucson either are missing the power front seat or the one's that are still in the car are allready cracked or broken throught at the seatback support at the track rail. help me if you can, but please repond to this. *ak

One morning while sitting in my car the front driver side seat-back broke. the seat-back began to sag backwards on the right side. i took the car to the dealer and they contacted daimler-chrysler via their computer system. my car was covered for a free repair because other dodge interpid owners are having a similar problem. though my repair of my moterized driver side seat is free, i feel that this could be a major safety problem. my car was not moving when the seat back broke. had i been involved in an accident or stopping quickly i may have had a major problem. daimler-chrysler knows about the problem because they are fixing it for free. i was told that this was several hundred dollars of free repairs provided by daimler-chrysler. someone should look into the driver side seat back failure problem in dodge intrepids.*ak
