| On september 5, 2004, mr. robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.his petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle is being towed.mr. galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioner's 1996 dodge intrepid.on october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.that investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.this is still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsa's database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition. | ||||||

| The rear lateral link holds the rear wheel in alignment. it has two bushings on each end and an adjustment thread in the center. the tubing the bushing mounts in split thus rendering the car very unstable even at 25 mph. my wife was just about to get on the freeway when this occured. the tube that split open is rolled in its construction. however, the seam did not break, and the weld did not break rather the tube split just outside of the weld area. there was no impact to this part or any related suspension component. it just failed under normal use. i understand that parts wear out, but this item only contained a wearable part and in and of it self should not have failed. had my wife reached freeway speeds when it failed the results could have been disasterous! i have a picture of this failed component available if you would like to see it.*ak | |||

| Front end of vehicle would shake when applying brakes, rattling noise under hood, all four door hinges would sqeak and drop when opening the doors this was returned several times to dealer,and still back doors do not work properly. engine mounts went out, rubber moulding around inside of drivers door fell off 3 times finally they glued it on again. engine check light kept coming on they replaced the sensor even though they didn't know what was wrong, the brakes and rotors gave out chrysler was contacted and they refused to replace rotors because it was not covered under warranty. transmission still slips when applying gas to pedal.vehicle sits and then surges.vehicle is in shop again for loud thumping noise in front end of vehicle possibly engine cradle . contacted chrysler about lemmon law at beginning of ownership of veh and they said it did not apply. | |||
