Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to a dealership, where it was determined the pump for the cooling system failed. this caused water to get into the engine, therefore, the engine must be replaced. also, the brakes warped causing vibration in the front end. the vehicle was not seen by a mechanic for this and neither problem was repaired.

The engine failure is what i'm sick about. we paid the car off in dec. 2002, and we were happy with a relatively new, low mileage car. however, in january, 2003 the oil light started to blink. checked oil - fine. in february had oil changed. pro team told us oil dirty - they did a flush. oil light still blinking! end of march into april car started to blow a little black smoke, progressed to stuttering and stalling. took car to chrysler dealer (five star) first they said something with carburator was gone - fixed $1,l00!took car home, no change(?)back to dealer, then they told us engine (2.7 liter) was shot. needed transportation. had new engine done. paid $5,500 - credit card - no other way. being angry and sick about it ever since.

Repairs were done to the engine on 3 occasions, rotors 2 occasions, brakes 1 occasion, control arms (suspension) 1 occasion, steering 1 occasion, & electrical. although i only have 54,000 miles on my car and the engine has been replaced, the dealership refuses to fix the ongoing engine problems. the dealership manager, rod harris, admits it a lifter ticking but insists that it is normal. chrysler gave me an added care service contract that is good through 6/26/04 and to 75,000 miles. plan code is ad675h. they refuse to fix my car. this is the second time, after the first three attempts to fix it, i have been to the dealership. i filed a complaint with chrysler on 1/12/04. also note they still have my vehicle today 1/12/04 because the transmission failed. it's been in service for 5 days. transmission failed while i was driving on 1/7/04. i am concerned with the safety of the vehicle and the engine failing now with my 10 month old daughter. *la

I have found an excellent and informative website against dailmler chrysler at www.daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com for anyone who would like more information mainly in regard to intrepid, 300m, concorde, lhs premature engine, steering, transmission and other common failures. i have experienced many of these problems myself and dailmer chrysler simply does not care, i could have even been killed in one instance. after owning another vehicle and putting nearly 30,000 miles on it i have not had any of the ridiculous problems experienced with chrysler's dodge brand of vehicles. there is a lot of information consumers need to know that dailmer chrysler does not want you to know about these vehicles and their common problems chrysler ignores, some of which are potential safety concerns such as the defective seat belt design chrysler continues to use and defective steering design and or components that can cause sudden looseness or change of response in steering, which can lead to a serious accident. these guys have been receiving complaints daily about these problems and have been referring consumers to the nhtsa, i hope that in turn the nhtsa will add this to the list of their complaints so others will also know about this. thank you very much for your time. *nlm

I started feeling a pulse in the brakes pedal at just over 20,000 miles. i felt it must be a defective rotor so i contacted the dealer and the dodge national hotline. they made me bring in the car for inspection, where for $24 they proceeded to tell me after 5 minutes that i have warped and pitted brake rotors. they will not cover them under the 3 year 36k warranty. instead they tell me that this is normal wear and they want $275 to replace the rotors. i checked the nhtsa site and found 4 out of 36 other complaints were about the same pulsing rotors. i wrote letters to dodge to no avail. i refuse to pay them to put the same oem junk parts on the car. bendix or raybesto do not yet sell rotors for this new of a car. the brake system is not 100% safe and i feel that the dealership and dodge are giving me the run around. what do you suggest i do?

I am not very happy with these problems. why do i have to keep my horns wrapped in plastic for a year. they say they are redesigning the horns but none have come out yet. when my warranty is out i will be out too. i am writing the manufactor. today about this problem. it stinks!! also i do not understand how my rotors could be warped. the pads are still in good shape. they only wanted to turn the rotors. i do not trust these guys. i am getting a second opinion wed. oct. 27 about the rotors. i can see from your site that the drivers side window has given trouble to other owners. i just got the car back again thursday and the window that they had to remove to put in the new motor is still not set right. when i call them back it willbe my 4th try. also the theft alarm they fixed this oct 21, thurs. was just rigged . i am taking it back and show them the poor work quality. the trunk hangs while opening because they wrapped a mound of tape around the so called break in the wiring. who is out here to help put these guys in their place. i pay big money for a nice car and i am plagued with problems. they won't like me for sending this info in. but i am mad now. i am tired of taking the car in for repeated repairs. any insight or info you could give me would be appreciated. i am looking to sell but that will be my last resort, because i will lose money. thank you for taking the time to read this message. sincerely, paula t harris

At about 20,000 miles i noticed a pulsing or shimmy when pressing the brakes. it appears that the front rotors have already warped, under normal use. my tires show no sign of unnecessary wear and have been rotated regularly. the dealer and dodge are aware of the problem and say that this is normal and will not cover it under the warranty. if it is normal for rotars to wear every 20,000 miles than this will be the last dodge or chrysler product i will buy!.

1998 dodge intrepid--rack and pinion failed/broke. i had pulled up to the curb to retrieve the mail and as i turned the steering wheel to the right to pull away, i felt/heard a loud pop. the steering wheel was no longer connected to the rack and pinion as the r&p has failed/broken. the steering wheel would freely turn but the wheels were not moving. i had to have the car towed to the dealer who replaced the rack and pinion steering at a cost of $650.00. fortunately, the dealer split the cost with me as i had just bought the car (used) 30 days prior. i was still out $350.00. my biggest concern is, what would have happened to my family, specifically my wife and my 2 year old son had that part failed while i was on the highway or in heavy city traffic. it could have cost us our lives...i also have a slight shimmy in the steering wheel when the brakes are applied. i'm guessing a warped rotor as i recall reading something about that being an intrepid problem also....i warn any of you who are having steering problems to get it fixed before you drive it....the rack and pinion steering system that wont be recalled could have cost us our lives.

The front brakes on my intrepid started pulsing at around 20,000 miles. the car was only 18 months old. the dealer said this was normal wear and would not warranty the repair. no after market parts were yet available, and i refused to put poor quality dodge parts back on the car with no guarantee they would not warp again in another year. in my 20 years of driving i have never had a car need rotors until they had at least 75,000 miles. interestingly enough dodge stratus's were recalled for defective rotors, i bet some intrepid rotors came from the same factory. i drove the car for another 10,000 miles, with the annoying pulse, until auto parts store stared carrying replacement rotors from reputable companies. i just recently put new pads and rotors on the car and the pulsing has gone away. needless to say, i was not happy with dodge and their lack of willingness to stand behind their product. i will not buy another dodge until i am satisfied their customer service means buiness and is not just a series of flashy tv ads. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated the brake lines rusted causing brake fluid to leak out around the muffler creating a fire hazard. the brakes failed once while driving 30 mph. the brake pedal went to the floor. prior to the brake failure, the brake light illuminated on the dashboard. the contact added brake fluid as an attempt to remedy the problem. shortly after this incident, the contact noticed brake fluid leaking from the vehicle again. the dealership was contacted.

Dt*: the contact stated the brake pedal was depressed while traveling at 50 mph and it went completely floor. the brake returned by a spring, but there was only around 2% of braking power. the automatic transmission was down shifted, but the transmission failed to move from the drive position, although the lever indicated an auto stick position. the accelerator pedal was released and the vehicle eventually slowed to a stop on its own. the vehicle was driven slowly to a brake repair shop where it was determined the brake line was corroded and ruptured. the brake line was replaced. the vehicle has not been inspected concerning the transmission problem. the manufacturer has not been alerted. the vehicle is being used in a salt belt state and there have been other corrosion issues, such as the master cylinder and brake rotors. updated 07/05/06. *jb
