I entered my dodge intrepid at approximately 5:50 am and after starting the ignition i noticed that the brake pedal depressed itself down the floor. after a couple of minutes the pedal did not come up and i turned off the ignition. when i turned off the ignition pedal then raised itself slowly with a hissing sound. when i proceeded to start the car again the pedal again depressed itself making me unable to drive my vehicle

I have a 1999 dodge intrepid that blew a rod at 72,000 miles with no warning. we replaced the engine for about $3,000 and two weeks ago at 102,000 miles i started to hear a rapping sound that was probably another rod, but before the engine could blow another rod something in the timing snapped, so now i am left with a lawn ornament that i can't afford to fix and i am still paying for. not to mention the various other items we have had to replace like the a/c condenser for $600.00 and the speed sensors, that was another $300.00. this car is the biggest lemon i have ever bought. *nm

Cruise control component over took the brake system. car accelerated from 25 miles a hour in stop and go traffic to 40 miles an hour. this happened in spite of the brakes being compressed. this cause me and my family to end up unde the rear of truck. this action kad occurred again to me personally and to two other persons. this problem was reported to the dealership several times and claimed to have repaired it , but the same thing happenned again on the way home from the shop. the first tiome it was supposedly repaired, the o2 sensor and cruise control cable were replaced. this action has not stopped this vehicle from accelerating on its own. after this incident it accelerated with two different people behind the wheel. my attorney has located two other 99 intrepids that have done this. one accelerated in reverse and the other in drive like mine. i have contacted chrysler/daimler customer service, but to no avail. this vehicle has been taken back by the finance company because we refused to pay on anything that almost killed our family. of course they, household finance, could care less and were only interested in getting their money. i intend to put this information every where i can to hopefully prevent anyone from purchasing this vehicle. they could be killed because it has not been repaired and continues to accelrate ob its own. this car is a death trap and should be taken off of the road. if there is anything else i can do to accomplish the foregoing, please contact me .*ak

While driving on freeway near tracy, ca vehicle drove over smoothly part in freeway that slightly went upward then slightly downward causing vehicle springs or struts to lift up or hop far too much creating very poor vehicle traction, traffic then abruptly halted, had to brake hard to stop vehicle, vehicle had poor traction and just slid making a loud tire screeching noise, had to very quickly release the brake since vehicle was skidding, shifted into autostick and downshifted quickly in conjunction with quickly using brake get vehicle to stop properly. i am using stock goodyear tires with good tread, service center told me tires are ok, i am supposed to have abs (anti-lock brakes) so this does not happen. i beleive that the abs failed due to the springs or struts bouncing allowing the vehicle to lift up too much thus loosing traction causing abs to fail. i have not had any other problems with abs however brakes are starting to sometimes feel funny, almost a little rough when applied lately. i talked to independent mechanic that told me that my vehicle should not have skidded as it did and my springs could be responsible for the excessive uplift that occured. vehicle does seem to hop or bounce a little much also at times causing the front wheels to loose traction or slide on slight turns. new springs or whatever with only 32,000? i have never had that happen in my old 1995 dodge intrepid although it had it's problems. this should not happen and is dangerous, i almost smashed into the traffic in front of me. please advise. thank you.*ak

Brakes hiss and get hard when temp drops below 32 degrees, suddenly and without warning. unable to stop. took to mechanic, who discovered the master cylinder and brake booster was ruined due to rust, because water runs into the area from windshield drainage points. this is a design flaw which allows leakage directly into the brake booster/master cylinder area. car is now in shop to have both parts replaced ( ~$500-600). chrysler should cover these repairs and issue a recall before someone dies. although the parts will be replaced there is no guarantee how long before they will be rusted out and fail again. *jb

My car stalls when stopped, taken to dealer twice for problem. they finalled replaced the fuel pump after charging me to have computer reprogrammed. engine stil not ok, but not stalling. when accelerating engine seems to be slipping. the front passenger window was fixed about a month ago and is not working again. car has been in 2 for new brakes, i have had the rotors replaced and also turned in the 2 years i have owned the car. car shakes when stopping again, so rotors will need to be turned or replaced again. why? by looking at this web site it seems everyone is having the same problems with the intrepid. lots of complaints. why are there no recalls. we have to keep paying out of pocket for dealer defects. my dealer is 36 miles away. not easy to get car repaired. that is why window not fixed yet. help.*ak

History includes blown transmission sensor, failure on the very first year inspection for brake rotors, driver's side window sticks in up position, intermittent heat control button not functioning properly, noisy when turning in front strut area, keyless remote does not function properly and now the worst of it. one month ago, took car in with oil and engine lights flashing, ticking noise from engine, stalling out. dealer did electronic sensors repairs and tune up costing $500. one month later, car had to be towed back to dealer with loud banging in engine. repair bill of over $6,000 to fix a car i've owned 3 years, 8 months and 60,000 miles. 2.7 l engines are blowing in these cars all the time making it next to impossible to purchase a used one to do repairs myself. one used car parts place said they have a waiting list. recall anyone???!! *nlm

According to the mechanic working on my 1999 dodge intrepid, the power brake booster is defective. currently, when the car sits in tempatures below 32 degrees for a couple of hours, there is almost complete loss of brake pressure due to air being allowed into the system because of a hairline crack in the unit. when the car has been allowed to warm up (15-20 minutes) and/or the tempature is above 32 degrees, the brake pressure is fine as no air is being allowed into the system because of the expansion of a seal in the unit. when the mechanic called his auto-parts dealer for a part, he was told it was only available from dodge directly. when he called dodge, he was told the part was on national backorder and could not even be given an estimated date of when the part would become available. if there is this big of a demand for the part, obviously this is a major problem. i noticed online that there was a recall of 2000 and 2001 neons for brake booster problems, why not for the other dodge cars?
